Herman G. DeTurk
Herman Glenn DeTurk, 76, of 7161E, 350S, Akron, IN, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999 at Life Care Center of Rochester, IN, where he was a patient. He had been in failing health for two years.
Born Nov. 20, 1922 at Fort Wayne, IN, his parents were Walter M. and Terzah (Alhouse) DeTurk, both deceased.
He had been a resident of Fulton County area since 1940, having come from Cromwell, IN. He was retired from Safeway Steel Corp., of Rochester, IN where he was a punch press operator for 22 years. He was a member of Lake Manitou Moose Lodge #1102, and the North American Hunting Club, as he was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters - Mrs. Randy (Connie) Miller of Claypool, IN and Darlene DeTurk of Alabama; a son, Byron David DeTurk of Tampa, FL; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Hazel Reed of Wabash; five brothers - Clarence DeTurk and wife Bernice of Mission, TX, Richard "Dick" DeTurk and wife, Rosie of North Manchester, Guy DeTurk and wife Martha of Rochester, Ralph DeTurk and wife Marjorie "Jean" of Wabash and Lewis DeTurk and wife Lilly of Peru; also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was held Wednesday (this morning) at the Foster & Good Funeral Home of Akron, IN. Burial was in Akron Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or the Leukemia Foundation.
Donald E. Armstrong
Donald Edward Armstrong, 67, of 6704 S, St. Rd. 13, Wabash, IN, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. He was born April 5, 1931 at Van Buren, IN to Vernon C. and Dencil (Bartaway) Armstrong.
He married Carol Drook in Somerset, IN on Nov. 29, 1953. He was a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church in Somerset, the Somerset Masonic Lodge, and the LaFontaine Order of the Eastern Star. He was a 1949 graduate of Wabash High School, was a retired farmer and Marine Corp veteran, having served in the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Carol of Wabash; his mother Dencil Engelman of Wabash; a son, Joseph E. Armstrong of Irving, TX; a daughter, Mrs. Roy (Janel K.) Proffitt of Wabash; a brother, James L. (Diane) Armstrong of Chesterton, IN; a sister, Janet Kay Hess of South Bend; and three granddaughters Jamie, Kacie, and Karie Proffitt, all of Wabash.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, Wabash, with Pastor K. M. Lord officiating. Burial was in Mississinewa Cemetery, located at Somerset.
Preferred memorials are to Woodlawn United Methodist Church of the Wabash County Hospital Cardiac Rehab.
Armor R. Lucas
Armor Ray Lucas, 89, of 245 N. East St., Wabash, IN died Thursday, Feb. 11, 1999 at Wabash Skilled Care Center of Wabash. He was born Feb. 22, 1909 at Dungannon, VA to Charles Lee and Laura (Dooley) Lucas. He lived in Wabash since 1960,
He married Beulah B. Mann in Gate City, VA on July 26, 1937, and she died April 7, 1987. He was a World War II Army veteran. He retired from Wabash Alloys in 1974 after 14 years and was a former coal miner in Virginia. He attended the Wabash First Baptist Church.
He is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Earl (Teresa) Shaner of Wabash; a brother, Charles Lee Lucas, Jr. of Martinez, CA; and two sisters, Evelyn Gibson of Dungannon, VA and Lora Howington of Downingtown, PA. Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 15, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, Wabash, and burial was in the Friends Cemetery of Wabash.
Rosella Bedics
Rosella Bedics, 75, of 74 E. Main St., Wabash, IN, died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999 at Wabash County Hospital. She was born April 8, 1923 in Jefferson County, KY to the late John A. and Mary (Coleman) Cash.
Rosella was a homemaker and had lived most of her life in Wabash County.
She is survived by two daughters - Betty Nolin of Wabash, and Janice Kay Snyder of North Manchester; two sons - Paul (Diana) Bedics of Tippecanoe, IN and Larry (Vonnie) Bedics of Peru; two sisters - Betty Piasecki of South Bend, IN and Kathleen Brooks of Brazil, IN; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, two grandchildren and a brother.
Funeral service was held Wednesday (today), Feb. 17, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel in Wabash, with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.

Larry L. Malott
Larry Lee Malott, 62, of 5509 N SR 15, Wabash, IN died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born Aug. 15, 1936 in Wabash County, IN to the late Gail and May (Thompson) Malott.
He was a member of the Roann American Legion, having been an army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He is a retired truck driver.
He is survived by his companion Evelyn Irelan of Wabash; a daughter, Lisa Beabout of Pekin, IL.; a sister, Sharon Miltonberger of Roann; a half brother, Ronald Malott of Wabash; two half sisters, Joan Keefer of Champagne, IL and Joan Keefer of Elwood, IN; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel with Pastor Kurt Snyder officiating. Burial was in the Roann Community Cemetery, located at Roann, IN.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Intensive Care Unit at Wabash County Hospital.
Lois S. Humphrey
Lois Sampson Humphrey, 71, of 1923 Fernwood Trails Dr., Florissant, MO, died Wednesday, Feb. 10, 1999 at St. Joseph's Hospital of St. Charles, MO. She was born Oct. 8, 1927 at Wabash, IN to the late
Willard Brooks and Mazie Ann (Huddleston) Sampson. She was married to Eugene Channing Humphrey.
Lois was a graduate of St. Louis Community College with a degree in Advertising Design and Commercial Art with Academic Honors.
Survivors include her husband of Florissant, MO; two daughters, Beth Ann Humphrey and Mary Sue Humphrey, both of Kansas City, KS; a son, David Channing Humphrey of Murietta, CA; two sisters, Phyllis Sampson Vrooman of Ft. Myers, FL and Shirley Sampson Kuldau of Sun City Center, FL; a brother, James Willard Sampson of Indianapolis; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999 at Wabash Friends Church with Pastor David Phillips officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery of Wabash.

Francis B. Grim
Francis B. Grim, 97, of 1525 W. Timberview Dr., Marion, IN, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. He was born Jan. 8, 1902 in Grant County, Indiana to Frank and Louise (McCombs) Grim. He married Minnie E. Poe Oct. 29, 1921. He was a former resident of North Manchester, IN.
Mr. Grim was owner of Grim Contracting for 18 years. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards.
Survivors include his wife, Minnie; a son, Gerald Grim of Marion; two daughters - Eva Metzger of Pensacola, FL and Mrs. Jerry (Juanita) Boucher of Marion; a sister, Pat Conner of Marion; 12 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 23 great-great grandchildren.
Friends may call today (Wednesday, Feb. 17) at the Rybolt Funeral Home, 314 N. Washington St., Swayzee, IN, from 5 to 8 p.m. and Thursday from 9 to 10 a.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999 at the Rybolt Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will be in Thrailkill Cemetery of Swayzee.
L. Dawn Haupert
Lillian Dawn Haupert, 72, of 9643N 325W, Roann, IN, died Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born June 15, 1926 in Miami County to Claude Lyndel and Marie (Tracy) Burns. She married Delbert E. Haupert in Miami County on Jan. 16, 1946.
Dawn was a member of the Laketon United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and had also served as chairperson of the Pastor-parish and Trustee committees of the church. She was the Women's leader of the Wabash County Farm Bureau from 1996-1998, and was secretary of the Pleasant Township Farm Bureau, and member of Laketon Pleasant Township Association. She was also a member and past zone chairperson of the Laketon Lions Club, and was a past secretary of the Indiana Corn Huskers Association.
A 1944 graduate of Gilead High School, she worked at G.C. Murphy Store in North Manchester for 16 years, and retired from Heckman Bindery in North Manchester in 1992 after 16 years service, and worked on the family farm.
Dawn is survived by her husband Delbert E. of Roann; four daughters - Mrs. Jay (Janet) Clevenger of Roann, Mrs. Alan (Diane) Binkerd of North Manchester, Kathy Sue Kline of Warsaw, and Mrs. Thomas (Shirley) Smith of New Carlisle, IN; a sister, Mrs. Robert (Marjorie) Ihnen of North Manchester; a brother, Harvey Dean Burns of Macy, IN; eight grandchildren, two step grandchildren, a great-grandson, and five step-great grandchildren. A son, Max Edward Haupert, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held today (Wednesday), Feb. 3, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester, with Pastor Randall Webb officiating. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery.

Ruby M. Tate
Ruby M. Tate, 84, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born Mar. 1, 1914 in Wabash County, IN to Virgil and Clara (Houser) Allisbaugh. A lifetime North Manchester area resident, she married Von B. Tate April 6, 1937; he preceded her in death Feb. 1, 1994.
A homemaker and farm wife, Ruby was a member of the North Manchester First Brethren Church, a 50-year member of the North Manchester Order of Eastern Star, and the Town and Country Club. She was a 1932 graduate of Chester High School, and graduated from International Business College in Fort Wayne in 1933. She was a former owner of Allisbaugh Monument Sales in Servia, IN.
Survivors include two sons - Roger E. Tate and Neil A. Tate, both of North Manchester; grandsons Eric and Andrew Tate, and granddaughters Angela Tate Eugenio and Jessica Tate.
Funeral service was held Monday morning, Feb. 1, 1999, with the Revs. Robert Schmeiser and Marlin McCann officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, located at Servia, IN.

Norman E. Watson
Norman E. "Norm" Watson, 75, a resident of 1312 Park Road, Rochester, IN, died Friday, Jan. 29, 1999 at Woodlawn Hospital of Rochester, where he had been a patience since Tuesday, Jan. 26. He had been in failing health since July.
He was born Oct. 18, 1923 in Shelby County, IN to Arlie and Edna (McNeely) Watson, both deceased. He had been a resident of Fulton County area since 1966, having moved from North Manchester.
He was married Dec. 12, 1970 in Akron, IN to Geraldine (Jerry) Smith who survives. He retired as Vice President of the Rochester Telephone Company in 1986 following 20 years of service. Previously, he was employed by General Telephone for 18-1/2 years. A veteran of World War II, he served in the Atlantic and South Pacific areas. He was a member of the Rochester American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles and Elks Lodge, all of Rochester, and was past Commander of the North Manchester American Legion. He was past director of the Indiana Wildlife Federation, Indiana Lakes Management Society, Lake Manitou Association and past President of the Lake Manitou Association. He was an avid Purdue Basketball fan.
In addition to his wife, Jerry, he is survived by two sons - Steve (Becky) Watson of Warsaw, and Bruce (Paula) Watson of Columbus, IN; four grandchildren - Nicole and Curt of Warsaw and Josie and Gabriel of Columbus; a sister, Wilma Williams of Shelbyville, IN; and several nieces and nephews. A brother, Kenneth, preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday morning, Feb. 1, 1999 at the Foster & Good Funeral Home of Rochester, with the Rev. Junior Bose officiating. American Legion and V.F.W. conducted military graveside service at the Rochester I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Rochester, where he was buried.
Dorothy S. Winegardner
Dorothy S. Winegardner, 86, of 1540 Avon Place, IN died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999 at Cornwall Regional Hospital. Formerly of Montego Bay, Jamaica, Mrs. Winegardner was a housewife married to Donald E. Winegardner at Ft. Wayne, IN Aug. 28, 1937. He preceded her in death July 27, 1984.
She was born Feb. 23, 1912 in Huntington County to George and Novella Belle (Briner) Sanders, both deceased. She was a member of Huntington (IN) Trinity United Methodist Church and its Friendship Class for 50 years. She was affiliated with Huntington College and was a volunteer for Salvation Army.
Survivors include a son, David Winegardner of Midland, MI; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Ann) McGaw of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; sisters Mary Lou Peters of Seattle, WA and Ida Briegel of Fort Wayne; and a brother Stan Sanders of North Manchester. Five brothers - Arnold, George, Kenneth, Donald and Deloris Sanders - and a sister, Kathleen Briegel, preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1999 at Trinity United Methodist Church of Huntington, with the Rev. Steven N. Ailes officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery Memorial Park of Fort Wayne.
