Mary P. Roberts
Mary Pauline (Pratt) Roberts, 95, formerly of 142 Shady Lane Dr., Wabash, IN, died Feb. 1, 1999 at Millers Merry Manor East, Wabash, IN. She was born July 31, 1903 at Wabash, IN to Hugh and Rosa (Miller) Pratt. She married Vern Roberts Feb. 14, 1959 and he died Nov. 23, 1959.
She was a member and former Sunday School teacher at the Wabash Christ United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross. She was also a member and past president of the Wabash Altrusa Club, a member since 1928 of the Wabash Rebekah Lodge #304 where she served as secretary for a number of years, and was a member of the Women's Clubhouse Association.
A lifelong resident of Wabash County, she was a 1925 graduate of Chippewa High School; she retired from the F.W. Woolworth Company in Wabash after six years. She owned and operated Pratt Studios in Wabash for 30+ years.
Survivors include three sisters - Ruth Huskey of Sault St. Marie, MI, Mrs. Howard (Emma) Enyeart of Wabash, and Mrs. Don (Bessie) Hoover of Syracuse, IN; and several nieces and nephews, including Jim and Carol Hoover of Peru, IN. Two sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel in Wabash today (Wednesday) from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Main St. Chapel Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Don Crabill officiating. Burial will be in Falls Cemetery, located at Wabash, IN.
Preferred memorials are to American Red Cross or Christ United Methodist Church.
Edna L. Gurtner
Edna Lucille Gurtner, 90, a resident of Rocky Nol Retirement Community of Akron, OH, died at the Retirement Home Monday, Feb. 1, 1999. She was born Jan. 30, 1909 at Marion, IN to Ora and Cloe (Burkhart) Horton. She married Wendell J. Gurtner on Dec. 16, 1954 in Peru, IN and he died June 29, 1996.
She was an executive secretary at General Tire in Wabash.
She is survived by a nephew, Jerry (Ramona) O'Brian of Reading, MI; and a sister-in-law, Betty Ann Retherford of LaFontaine, IN. She was preceded in death by a sister.
Friends may call at Grandstaff-Hentgen, Main Street Chapel, 86 E. Main St., Wabash, IN on Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Main Street Chapel Sunday, Feb. 7, 1999 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial will take place in Friends Cemetery of Wabash.
There will be a memorial service held at the Carroll Center at Rocky Nol Retirement Community in Akron, OH on Monday, Feb. 15, at 1:30 p.m.
Micky Lee Baker
Micky Lee Baker, 43, of 330 Webster St., Lagro, IN, died Monday, March 8, 1999 at the home of his sister, located at 281 Walnut St., Wabash. He was born Sept. 10, 1955 at Wabash, IN to Glen and Florence (Leach) Baker.
He was a 25-year employee at the Ford Meter Box Company in Wabash.
Survivors include two sons - Joshua and Jeremy Baker, both of Lagro; a daughter, Heather Baker of North Manchester; a sister, Mrs. Jerry (Christine) Lehman of Wabash; and a brother, Terry L. Baker of North Manchester. He was preceded in death by one son.
Friends may call at Grandstaff-Hentgen, Manchester Avenue Chapel today (Wednesday) from 2 - 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Thursday, afternoon, March 11, 1999 at 2:00 p.m. at the Manchester Ave. Chapel with Rev. Mike Weaver officiating. Burial will take place in Lagro Cemetery, located at Lagro, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Hospital Oncology Department.
Leila Mae Dingman
Leila Mae (Betty) Dingman, 92, of 125 Grant St., Wabash, IN, died Friday, Mar. 5, 1999 at Millers Merry Manor East of Wabash. She was born Mar. 13, 1906 at Elwood, IN to Manasseh G. and Caroline S. Garard. She married Oscar Dingman in Peru, IN on June 5, 1940 and he died June 29, 1989.
She is survived by her friend, Hazel Hooten of Peru.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, and burial took place in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.
Mary E. Sutton
Mary E. Sutton, 64, of Millers Merry Manor East, Wabash, died Friday, March 5, 15 Millers Merry Manor. She was born Dec. 30, 1934 at Peru, IN to William Marion and Florence (Poyser) Sutton.
She was a 1953 graduate of Peru High School. She worked as a secretary for the Animal Science Department at Purdue University in Lafayette, IN for 42 years. She was a member of the Women of the Moose of Lafayette.
She is survived by a brother, William J. Sutton and a nephew, Jerry Sutton, both of North Manchester.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, March 9, 1999 at Paw Paw Cemetery, located at rural Roann, IN. The Rev. Dan Binkley officiated.
Arrangements were by Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel.
Terry E. Cooper
Terry Earl Cooper, 61, of 422 E. Main St., Wabash, died at his residence Saturday, March 6, 1992. He was born April 20, 1937 at Wabash, IN to Robert E. and Opal R. (Williams) Cooper. He married Kay M. McNeeley in Wabash, IN on Nov. 9, 1958. He retired from Jefferson Smurfit Corp. in Wabash in February 1999 after 28 years. Terry Also managed the Wabash Penguin Point Restaurant several years ago. He attended the Wabash Christian Missionary Alliance Church, and serve in the U. S. Air Force after Jan. 31, 1955.
Survivors include his wife, Kay of Wabash; three sons - Mark (Valerie) Cooper, Jeffrey L. Cooper and Robert Scott (Rhonda) Cooper, all of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Dave (April) O'Neal of LaFontaine; two brothers - Ronald (Ann) Cooper and Scott (Karen) Cooper, both of Wabash; a sister, Mrs. Arden (Julia) Heagy of Wabash; a step brother, James (Shirley) Paul of Wabash; and 11 grandchildren. Two grandchildren preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held this morning, Wednesday, March 10, 1999 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, with Dr. James Walker officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Cancer Society or Wabash Miami County Home Healthcare and Hospice.

Lola J. Elliott
Lola Jeanette Elliott, 96, of 2790 Mark Ridge, Reno, NV 89509, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at Life Care Center of Reno, NV. She was born Aug. 31, 1902 at Wabash, IN to Lea Jeffries and Rose Dunbar. She married John Raymond Elliott May 14, 1933 in Chicago; he died July 13, 1993.
She was a 1920 graduate of Wabash High School, and from Mrs. Baker's Normal School in Indianapolis with an associate degree in primary education. She was a reporter for the Wabash Times-Star and taught elementary school in Wabash County and Kokomo, IN for nine years prior to marrying.
She worked as a social worker for Cook County Bureau of Public Welfare during the depression and returned to Indiana to live in Fort Wayne in 1942. She worked in a Quaker Refugee Hostel in Iowa during World War II. In 1951 she returned to the Chicago area, where she lived until her retirement to Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester in 1985. In 1995 she went to live with family in Reno, NV. She was active in Quaker church work, Garden Club, and she served on the Board of the YWCA in Evanston, IL, and the United Church Women along with other civic committees in Lake Bluff, IL.
Survivors include a daughter, Rebecca Willis of Reno, NV; a sister, Ruth Tomlinson of Wabash, IN; a granddaughter, Hanna Lea Willis and a great grandson, Ezekial Dare Oliver, both of Reno, NV. A sister, Mary Katherine Bangert preceded her in death.
Memorial services were held Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the University Chapel of the International Community of Christ Church in Reno; burial will take place in Oaklawn Cemetery of North Manchester at a later date.

Grace W. Dock
Grace W. Dock, 81, a resident at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash, IN, died Friday, March 5, 1999 at the Center. She was born Nov. 11, 1917 at North Manchester, IN to Toni and Cassie (Bomgarden) Reiken. She married Robert T. Dock in North Manchester on April 20, 1946, and he died Oct. 19, 1972.
She was a member of the Pleasant View Bible Church in Warsaw, IN, the Atwood American Legion Auxiliary, and the Lambda Chi Sorority. She had lived in the Warsaw area for 53 years, and she owned Grace's Beauty Shop in Warsaw for 25 years.
She is survived by two daughters - Mrs. Charles (Toni) Miller of Mokeno, IL and Mrs. Steve (Julie) Jones of Kinmundy, IL; a sister, Ethel Reiken Kneller and a brother, Ralph Reiken, both of North Manchester; and four grandchildren. A sister preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel Tuesday, March 9, 1999 with the Rev. Don Whitman officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, located at Servia, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash Skilled Care Center, 710 N. East St., Wabash. Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Services Inc. was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy L. Stech
Dorothy LaRae (Young) Stech, 85, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester, Wednesday, Mar. 3, 1999. She was born Aug. 25, 1913 at North Manchester to C. Ray and Itha F. (Lower) Young. She married Victor E. Stech Oct. 25, 1939 in LaGrange, IN.
She was a 1931 graduate of Central High School of North Manchester. She graduated from Indiana Central College, now the University of Indianapolis, in 1935. She was a Home Economics teacher at Brighton High School of Howe, IN and Kekionga Junior High School of Fort Wayne. She served as school secretary at South Wayne Elementary School in Fort Wayne for several years.
She was a member of the South Wayne United Methodist Church of Fort Wayne for 42 years, and a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church. She had been a member of the Fort Wayne area and the Wabash County area teachers association, and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association.
She is survived by her husband, Victor; a daughter, Mrs. Wayne (Pamela Kay) Hawley of Chelsea, MI; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the North Manchester United Methodist Church, with Rev. William Hemmig and Rev. Jay Taylor officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the South Wayne United Methodist Church, the North Manchester United Methodist Church, or to Timbercrest Retirement Community. Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Edna M. Shroyer
Edna M. Shroyer, 92, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Tuesday, March 2, 1999 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born July 29, 1906 in Wabash County to George A. and Rosa A. (Renicker) Sroufe. She married Earl C. Shroyer Aug. 11, 1931, and he preceded her in death Nov. 10, 1956.
She was a retired secretary for Peabody Seating Co. and Manchester Foundry. She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include nieces and nephews. A brother and a sister preceded her in death.
Graveside service was held Saturday, March 6, 1999 at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with the Rev. Charles Lunkley officiating.

Harold W. Close
Harold W. Close, 81, of 8581W 600N, Andrews, IN, died Wednesday, March 3, 1999 at his home. He was born April 27, 1917 in Huntington County, IN to Charles and Rebecca (Krieg) Close. He married Lelah Voght Nov. 5, 1938 at Goblesville, IN.
He was a1936 graduate of Bippus High School. He was owner of Close Builders, and a farmer for 63 years. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church of Bippus.
He is survived by his wife, Lelah of Andrews; a son, Terry Close of Bippus; a daughter, LuAnn Schafer of Fort Wayne, IN; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and a brother, Doyle Close of Andrews. He was preceded in death by three brothers - Wilbur, Dale and Donald Close; and a sister, Mary Nie.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 6, 1999 at the Huntington Chapel of Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder, with Rev. Bryan Ton officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.
