Beecher Blair
Beecher Blair, 73, of 1943 Vernon St., Apt. 9, Wabash, IN, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at his residence. He was born July 9, 1925 at Magoffin County, KY to Oscar and Louise (Litteral) Blair. He married Betty Russell in Wabash, IN Feb. 15, 1958; she died August 3, 1998.
Beecher had worked at the Celotex Plant in Lagro, IN.
He is survived by two sons, Larry Blair of Austin, MN and Edward Blair of Westville, IN and five grandchildren. A son, three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, March 22, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Zorn officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery of Lagro, IN.
Paul Speicher
Paul Speicher, 89, of 602 Bond Street, North Manchester, died Thursday, March 18, 1999 at his winter residence located at 633 W. Ocean Ave., Boynton Beach, FL 33426. He was born Sept. 9, 1909 in Wabash County to Joseph L. and Inez M. (Morford) Speicher. He married Genita B. Smith, and she died May 10, 1996.
Paul was a 1929 graduate of Laketon High School And a 1939 graduate of Manchester College. He was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren.
He was credited with the invention of the broadcast spreader on wheels. His tenure with Cyclone Seeder of Urbana, IN spanned 56 years (1929-1982). Since 1982, he was President of Spyker Spreaders, LLC, at North Manchester.
He is survived by a sister, Eva Snyder of Laketon. Three brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday morning, March 23, 1999 with the Rev. Susan Boyer officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw, IN.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Beatrice M. Cripe
Beatrice Marie Cripe, 82, of 452S 300W, Rochester, IN, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999 at the home of her daughter, Patricia Fairchild of Rochester. She was born Jan. 16, 1917 at St. Johns, MI to Joseph and Goldie (Strong) Duff.
She was a homemaker, married to Frank S. Cripe May 18, 1936 at Goshen, IN. They moved from Warsaw to Rochester in 1942. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 12, 1994.
She was a 1935 graduate of South Whitley High School; and was a member of the Reiter Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. William (Patricia) Fairchild and Mrs. Wayne (Charlene) Yeazel, both of Rochester; two sons _ Larry (Reba) Cripe and Lonnie (Nancy) Cripe, all of Rochester; a brother, George Duff of Warsaw and her stepmother, Norma Duff of Lansing, MI; 13 grandchildren - Michael and Randy Fairchild of Rochester, Nancy Fairchild of N. Caroline, Julie Melton or Rochester, Larry Cripe of Macy, Linda Lowry of Talma, Marcia Childers of Converse, Bob Beattie and Allen Beattie, both of Idaho, Heather Yeazel, Rob Cripe, Kristina Robison and Amanda Cripe of Rochester; 12 great-grandchildren; a half sister, Sandy Sills of Lansing, MI; three half brothers, Gordon Duff of Washington state, Bruce Duff of Lansing, MI and Dennis Duff of Frankfort, MI; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, a sister, a brother, a half brother and half sister.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 21, 1999 at Foster & Good Funeral Home with the Rev. Junior Bose officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, southeast of Rochester. Preferred memorials are to the Hope Hospice, Fulton County Cancer Society, or the American Heart Association.
Iva D. Bolinger
Iva Dove Bolinger, 101, a former resident of South Whitley, died Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home in North Manchester where she had been a residence since 1981.
She was born Sept. 15, 1897 in Cleveland Township, Whitley County, IN, a daughter of Romanthus and Emma Belle (Kreider) Pence. Her formative years were spent on a farm south of South Whitley where she was educated at Reel Horn School; she continued her education at Manchester College.
On April 2, 1920 she was united in marriage to Noah E. Bolinger. They resided in North Manchester for one year, then Luther for five years, later moving to a farm south of South Whitley until 1956. Mr. Bolinger died March 23, 1984.
She assisted her husband as bookkeeper for Bolinger Tin Shop from 1945 until their retirement in 1975.
She was a member of South Whitley Church of the Brethren and Cleveland Township Extension Homemakers Club.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Floyd A.R. and Elouise Bolinger; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick (Evelyn M.) Myers, both of South Whitley; seven grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and five great great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willard Pence and Chester Pence.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Smith and Sons Miller Chapel of South Whitley.
The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 26, 1999 at the funeral chapel in South Whitley, with Rev. Joan Deeter, chaplain of Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home, officiating. The burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.
Preferred memorials may be made to Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home.
Mabel R. Houser
Mabel R. Houser, 101, a resident of Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home, North Manchester, died Friday, March 19, 1999 at the Timbercrest.. Mrs. Houser was born Sept. 8, 1897 in Huntington County to Daniel and Amanda (Kreamer) Palmer. From the time she was three years old, she was raised by her grandparents, Catherine and Nicklos Kreamer.
She married Ray Houser Aug. 20, 1914 and he preceded her in death June 1, 1983. Mrs. Houser was a homemaker. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Home Economics Club of Roanoke, IN.
Survivors include a daughter, Catherine John of Arizona; four grandchildren, eight great grandchildren. A son, Harold Ray Houser, a daughter, Betty Burkart and a grandson preceded her in death. Funeral service was held Tuesday, March 23, 1999 at Timbercrest Church of the Brethren Home with the Rev. Charles Lunkley officiating. Burial was in Glenwood IOOF Cemetery of Roanoke, IN.

Lester H. Binnie
Lester H. Binnie, 90, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Sunday, March 15, 1998 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. He was born April 23, 1907 at Norcatur, KS to Earl L. and Bernice (Wertenberger) Binnie.
He married Doris Ireland Sept. 11, 1932 and she died in 1984. His second marriage was to Ruth (Miller) Kraning Sept. 1, 1985 and she preceded him in death on April 13, 1994.
Mr. Binnie was a 1925 graduate of Laketon High School. He graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. degree in horticulture, and received his M.S. degree in 1961 from the University of Colorado.
He retired in 1967 after a long career with the U.S. Department of Agriculture-Soil Conservation Service in Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Following retirement. he authored many articles and books on his family history and local history. He recorded and published names and dates from the cemetery stones of Kosciusko County and northern Wabash County. He was the author of "Early Brethren Families in the Eel River Congregation".
Mr. Binnie was a member of the North Manchester Historical Society and the Soil Conservation Society. He was a member of the Manchester United Methodist Church.
Survivors include three sons - Larry J. Binnie of Greenwood, IN, David E. Binnie of Pittsburgh, PA, and Stanley W. Binnie of Waukesha, WI; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Donald (Sherrill) Barr of Waverly, Iowa; and a brother, Rex Binnie of Tucson, AZ; six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Friends may call Friday, March 20 from 4 to 8 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, and also two hours prior to the service on Saturday at Timbercrest Chapel.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, March 21, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, with Dr. William Hemmig and Rev. Joan Deeter officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.

Carl W. Heater
Carl W. Heater, 74, of 121 E. Main St., Liberty Mills, IN died Sunday, March 15, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1923 at South Bend, IN to John W. and Leila (Clemans) Heater. He married Iva Z. Snyder Nov. 25, 1942 and she survives.
He was retired in 1977 as a supervisor for International Harvester of Fort Wayne. Since 1978 he has been a star route contractor for the U.S. Postal Service. He graduated from Central High School in 1941 and from Manchester College in 1949 with a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. He was a member of American Legion Post #286 of North Manchester.
Survivors include his wife, Iva of Liberty Mills; a son, Clark Heater of Claypool; a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Gloria) Olinger of Defiance, OH; a sister, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was a World War II Navy veteran. He attended Liberty Mills United Methodist Church.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday, March 18, 1998) at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary of North Manchester, with Pastor Ed French officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Wabash County.

Janice E. Brubaker
Janice E. Leiter Brubaker, 56, a rural North Manchester resident, died Saturday, March 14, 1998 at Parkview Memorial Hospital, Fort Wayne, where she was admitted March 12; she had been in failing health since September.
She was born August 24, 1941 in Huntington County, Indiana, a daughter of Ray and Velma (Sours) Gressley. She was a graduate of Clear Creek High School of Huntington County. After high school she began her employment with Dinius Insurance Agency as an insurance agent and secretary. In 1990 she joined Denney Insurance Agency as an insurance agent and office manager.
She was united in marriage to Douglas E. Leiter Feb. 23, 1963; they resided in South Whitley, IN. Mr. Leiter died in January 1965. She married DeWayne W. Brubaker March 23, 1992; they have made their home on 700 East, North Manchester.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in South Whitley, attended Liberty Mills Church of the Brethren and was a member of the American Business Women's Association Kilsoquah Chapter in Huntington.
She is survived by her husband, DeWayne; a daughter, Mrs. David (Shelley) Calhoun of South Whitley; three step children, Jeff (Rebecca) Brubaker of North Manchester, Tim (Sally) Brubaker of Goshen and Mrs. David (Sue) Stackhouse of Bourbon; three grandchildren - Krista, Kelli and David Andrew Calhoun; four step grandchildren - Ashley, Tristan and Laura Brubaker and Trenton Stackhouse; her father and step mother, Ray and Evelyn Gressley of Huntington; her mother, Velma Hamilton of Huntington; a sister, Alice Carr of Arkansas; and a brother, Ronald W. Gressley of Roanoke.
Funeral service was held today, Wednesday, March 18, at First Baptist Church of South Whitley with Pastor Jonathan Damon and Pastor Mark Flora-Swick officiating. The burial was in South Whitley Cemetery.

Mildred P. Eads
Mildred P. Eads, 82, of 4196E 400N, Lagro, IN, died Thursday, Mar. 12, 1998 at her home. She was born Aug. 19, 1915 in Kosciusko County, Indiana to Ralph and Ozola (Freed) Montel. She married James C. Eads March 30, 1940 in rural Lagro.
She was a 1933 graduate of Silver Lake High School. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Peters United Church of Christ in Urbana, IN.
She is survived by her husband, James C. Eads of Lagro; two sons - Ronald Eads of Lagro and Thomas Eads of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Char (Peggy Sue) Dilling of North Manchester; four sisters - Marie Bouse and Mabel Enyeart, both of Silver Lake, Alice Shoemaker of Carmel, IN, Florence Shipley of Goshen, IN; two brothers - Ralph Montel of Warsaw and Merle Montel of Pierceton; 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A son and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Sunday, March 15, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, with Pastor Ken Parsons officiating. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery, Lagro, IN.

Jack N. Brewer
Jack N. Brewer, 77, of 102 Meadow Dr., LaFontaine, IN died Wednesday, March 11, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital. He was born April 24, 1920 at Wabash to William and Mabel (Newberry) Brewer. He married Marjorie M. Shoemaker June 29, 1940 and she survives.
He was a farmer and worked for the Wabash County Highway for 17 years and was a school bus driver for eight years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons - Don Brewer of North Manchester and James Allen Brewer of Somerset, IN; a daughter, Ms. Sally A. Clay of Marion, IN; a sister, Mrs. Bob (Mae) Price of Goshen; 12 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral service was held March 14, 1998 at Eddingfield-DeLaughter Mortuary of Wabash, with Rev. Melissa Rice officiating. Burial was in Garden of Memory Cemetery, Huntington County, Indiana.
