Charles E. Cooper
Charles Edward Cooper,. 71,. of 251 Sheridan St., Wabash, IN died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital. Hew was born Dec. 12, 1925 at Hardinsburg, IN to the late Henry and Edna (Stroat) Cooper.
He married Margory Watson in Wabash, IN on January 24, 1949. He retired from Honeywell/Markhon, Inc. of Wabash in 1985 after 36 years. Charles was a member of Eastwood Church of Christ in Wabash, and a World War II Navy Veteran. Mr. Cooper had lived in Wabash since 1947.
Survivors include his wife, Margory, of Wabash; sons Charles Robert Cooper of Lagro, and Roger Dale Cooper of Wabash; a daughter, Mary Catherine Cooper of Wabash; sisters Elizabeth Dezru of Indianapolis and Marguerite Williams of Winter Haven, FL; eight grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four great grandchildren and two step great grandchildren. A daughter preceded him in death.
Funeral services was held Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, Wabash, with Evangelist Howard Waters officiating. Burial was in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.
Lola V. Sanger
A memorial service is being planned for Lola V. Sanger, 83, of North Manchester, to be held this Saturday, October 26, 1996 at Timbercrest Chapel in Timbercrest Re-tirement Home, North Manchester. The service will take place at 10:30 a.m.
Miss Sanger was a North Man-chester resident since 1945, when she accepted employment by Manchester College; she continued there until her retirement in 1978.
Funeral service was held Oct. 9, at Easton, PA, and burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Cordova, MD. Memorial donations may be made to Manchester College Accounting Dept., N. Ralph R. Harter
Ralph R. Harter, 67, of 603 W. Third Street, North Manchester, died at his home Monday, Oct. 21, 1996. He was born at Chicago, IL June 17, 1929. He married Margaret S. (Fitzgerald) Gahl Aug. 26, 1972 and she preceded him in death April 11, 1996.
Mr. Harter was a graduate of North Grove (IN) High School; he was a retired tool and die maker for Haynes International Company of Kokomo, IN.
He is survived by six daughters.
Funeral service was held today, Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, who were in charge of arrangements. The Rev. J. P. Freeman officiated. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Charles D. Millican
Charles D. Millican, 55, of Beaumont, TX, died Sunday, Oct. 20, 1996 at Jasper Memorial Hospital, Jasper, TX. He was born June 22, 1941 at Bedford, IN to Charles W. and Iola (Huff) Millican.
A graduate of Wabash High School, he was retired from General Tire in Wabash in 1991. He attended St. Matthew's United Church of Christ, Wabash; he was a member of the Wabash Eagles and Wabash American Legion. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Survivors include his mother, Iola Millican, of Wabash; daughters Teresa Tyler and Deborah Rose, both of Wabash, and Natalie Milli-can of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Mari-lyn Lourieo of Indianapolis; and nine grandchildren. He was pre-ceded in death by a brother.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, Oct. 24, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. at the Manchester Ave. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen with Rev. Carl Hanser officiating. Burial will take place in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association. Manchester Ave. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen is in charge of arrangements.
Lavon Clingaman
Lavon P. Clingaman, 84, a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, IN, and formerly of rural Warsaw, died Sat-urday, Oct. 19, 1996 at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw.
Mrs. Clingaman was born April 9, 1912 in Kosciusko County, IN to Chester Ray and Edith (Montel) Metzger.
She was a homemaker, and mar-ried Leon Clingaman Mar. 31, 1934; he died Nov. 17, 1981. She was a member of the Eel River Church of the Brethren, Kosciusko County.
Survivors include two sons - Max Clingaman of Warsaw and Donald Clingaman of Magnolia, TX; a sis-ter, Mrs. Ruth Warner of North Manchester; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, (today) Oct. 23, at the Eel River Church of the Brethren with the Rev. John Whitcraft officiating, as-sisted by Rev. Martha Cory. Burial was in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Charles L. Schnepp
Charles L. Schnepp, 71, of 1412 Sunset Dr., North Manchester, IN, died Friday, Oct. 18, 1996 at Columbus Regional Hospital, Columbus, IN. He was born Sept. 6, 1925 in Wabash County to L. D. and Faye (Krieder) Schnepp, both de-ceased.
An automotive salesman and lo-cal businessman, he married Jean-nette Schmalzried June 26, 1948, and she survives. He was a member of the North Manchester Mission-ary Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by sons Todd Schnepp of Ft. Wayne and Craig Schnepp of North Manchester; daughters Christine Brainard Johnson of Urbana, OH and Melinda Schnepp, North Manchester; a brother, Stanley Schnepp of North Manchester and a sister, Mrs. William (Mary Lou) Doster, also of North Manchester; and eight grandchildren. A brother, Lowell Schnepp, preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, Oct. 21, 1996 at the DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, which was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Dan Binkley officiated, and burial was in St. Peters Cemetery, Urbana, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Pathfinders Services, thru the Wabash Community Foundation.
Matthew Lee Gilley
Matthew Lee Gilley, 22, of 993 Cottage Ave., Wabash, died Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1996 at his residence. He was born Feb. 19, 1974 to Larry and Sheila Kay (Gouvan) Gilley.
He married Lyddia Kay Brewer Aug. 19, 1995 in Wabash. A 1992 graduate of Northfield High School, he was active in choir, speech team, and golf team. He attended Indiana Technical Institute in Fort Wayne and was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was a mem-ber of the Circle G Saddle Club in Marion. He formerly worked for Moorhead Communications in Mar-ion.
Survivors include his wife, Lyddia; his parents, Larry and Sheila Kay Gilley, all of Wabash; a sister, Beth Heller of Akron; and grandmothers Myra Gouvan and Ruth Gilley, both of Wabash.
Funeral arrangements were by Manchester Avenue Chapel Grand-staff-Hentgen, where funeral ser-vice was held Saturday, Oct. 19, with the Rev. Don Crabill officiat-ing. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Mental Health As-sociation.
Edward E. Cook
Edward E. "Cookie" Cook, 72, of 11180S County Farm Rd., Silver Lake, IN, died Thursday, Oct. 17, 1996 as the result of an auto accident which took place on SR 13, south of Millersburg, IN, in Elkhart County. Mr. Cook was born Sept. 25, 1924 in Wabash County to Emery E. and Mary E. (Fingerle) Cook, both deceased.
He married Frances M. Geiser Oct. 17, 1943, and she died Jan. 3, 1976. Mr. Cook owned the Marathon Filling Station in Silver Lake from 1960-65. He was a retired truck driver for Tri-State Harvester and Metzger Trucking of Silver Lake. He was a member of the Eel River Old German Baptist Church.
Survivors include sons Melvin Cook of Eldorado, OH; Alvin Cook, Jeff Cook, and Eldon Cook, all of Silver Lake; daughters Mrs. Charles (Martha) Burbank and Mrs. Carl (Marilyn) Shankster, both of Silver Lake; brothers Arthur Cook of Claypool and Marvin Cook of Lakeland, FL; sisters Mrs. Ev-erett (Opal) Metzger of Elita, OH and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Bowers of Silver Lake; 32 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 20, 1996 at the Eel River Old German Baptist Church, CR 1200S, Kosciusko County, with home brethren officiating, and burial was in Old German Baptist Cemetery, North Manchester. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Rex E. O'Hara
Rex E. O'Hara, 73, of 2930N-080E LaGrange, IN, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 1996 at Miller's Merry Manor, LaGrange, IN. He moved from South Whitley, IN to La-Grange, IN in 1970. He was born August 29, 1923 in Wabash County to Clyde F. and Grace Blanche (Flora) O'Hara, both deceased.
He married Betty E. Bussard May 2, 1942 at Alexandria, IN, and she survives along with a son, Gail E. O'Hara of Howe, IN; five grand-children and 11 great-grandchil-dren; a brother, William L. O'Hara of Silver Lake and a half-brother, Claude Haupert of Akron, IN
Mr. O'Hara was a retired salesman for Warner Corporation of North Manchester. He attended the Scott United Methodist Church, Scott, IN; he was a U.S. Army vet-eran of World War II, a member of the American Legion of Columbia City, and the VFW at South Whit-ley.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996 at the Frurip-May Funeral Home of LaGrange, IN with Rev. Mildred McCan offici-ating. Burial was in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange, where mili-tary services were conducted by the LaGrange American Legion Post 215.
Preferred memorials are to the LaGrange County Council on Aging (Van Fund).
Harvey R. Callahan
Harvey Raymond Callahan, 71, of 11 Mallard Lane, Sandy Beach, North Manchester, IN, died Tuesday, Oct.1, 1996 at his residence. He was born Feb. 13, 1925 in Wabash County to John J. and Ruth (Anderson) Callahan. He married Trula Faye Penrod Nov. 24, 1954 in North Manchester.
A lifetime Wabash County resident, Mr. Callahan was employed at Ford Meter Box for 18 years until his retirement in 1987. He was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church, the Laketon American Legion Post #402, and was a World War II Army Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Trula Faye; three sons, Vaughn J. of Ur-bana, Chad Alan of Sidney, and Brad Evan of North Manchester; a daughter, Dawn Callahan of Hol-land, OH; brothers Charles of North Manchester and John of Winamac; three sisters - Mrs. Lam-oin (Mary) Montel of North Manchester, Francis Callahan of Winamac, and Mrs. Maurice (Berdene) Azbell of Rochester; five grandchildren, and three step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, two brothers and a sister.
Funeral service will be held at the North Manchester United Methodist Church Thursday, Oct. 3, 1996 at 3:00 p.m. with the Rev. William Hemmig and Chaplain Jeana Bodart officiating. Burial will take place in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, which is in charge of arrangements. Calling also available one hour prior to funeral service.
Preferred memorials are to the Heartland Hospice, Fort Wayne or the North Manchester United Methodist Church.
Bunola N. Card
Bunola N. Card, 96, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 1996 at Peabody Healthcare Center. She was born at Claypool, IN in Kosciusko County Sept. 6, 1900 to the late Charles and Edith (Gunter) Nichol-son. She married C. Maynard Card Sept. 27, 1923 and he preceded her in death Jan. 8, 1965.
She was former owner of Card's Greenhouse, North Manchester, from 1935-1945. Prior to owning Card's Greenhouse, she was a school teacher at Kreider School, a one-room schoolhouse in Whitley County, IN. She was a member of the Navesink Methodist Church of Navesink, N.J.
There are no survivors; only one sister preceded her in death.
Private graveside services will be held at the Fairview Cemetery of Red Bank, N.J. where burial will take place. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Sarah I. Nitzschke
Sarah I. Nitzschke, 74, of 92 W. Skyline Dr., North Manchester, died at her residence Friday, Sept. 27, 1996. She was born at Tablegrove, IL Oct. 31, 1921 to William and Chlora (Hamm) English, both deceased. She married Howard E. Nitzschke June 27, 1943 and he preceded her in death Feb. 8, 1978.
She retired after 18 years employment at United Technologies, North Manchester. She was a member of the Wabash Church of God.
Three grandchildren survive; a daughter and two brothers preceded her in death.
Funeral services took place Sun-day, Sept. 29, 1996 at the Table-grove Community Church, Table-grove, IL with the Rev. Howard Self officiating. Burial was in Harris Cemetery, Tablegrove, IL. De-Laughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
