Robert E. Gackenheimer
Robert Emanuel Gackenheimer, 80, of 950
Abler St., Wabash, IN died Saturday, April 18, 1998 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash, IN. He was born Sept. 6, 1917 at Wabash to Emanuel and Me (Stemmed) Gackenheimer. He married Betha White in Fort Wayne, IN on May 24, 1947.
He was a lifetime member of the St. Matthews United Church of Christ of Wabash. He was a licensed pharmacist and a partner in Gackenheimer Pharmacy for more than 50 years. He was a member of the Indiana Pharmacist's Alliance, a past president and 50+ year member of the Wabash Lions Club. He was a past president of the Wabash Community Service Board of Directors, a member of the Travelers Protective Association, AARP, Indiana Historical Society and Wabash County Historical Society.
He is survived by his wife, Betha of Wabash; a daughter, Jean Teune of Warsaw; sons James Gackenheimer of Wabash and Jerry Gackenheimer of Warsaw; a brother, Paul Gackenheimer of Wabash and sisters Agnes Hentrich and Mary Helen Friermood, both of Wabash; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at St. Matthews United Church of Christ with Pastor Richard Rensner officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to St. Matthews United Church of Christ.
Wayland E. Robinett
Wayland E. Robinett, 82, of 485 Manchester Ave., Wabash, died Wednesday, April 15, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Sept. 14, 1915 in Steuben County, IN to George L. and Ida J. (Ransburg) Robinett. He married Jane Alice Bible on Oct. 20,1940 in Montpelier, OH and she died March 30k 1996.
He was a member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church since 1950. He was a member of Wabash Chapter AARP, Wabash American legion, Retired Teachers of Indiana, Base Air Depot 2 of Worton England. He worked for Robinett Buick 1949-1956, owned Wayland's 66 Service 1956-66, taught auto mechanics at Upper Wabash Valley Vocational School 1965-76, and was a mechanic for the City of Wabash from 1976-80 when he retired. He was an Army Air Corps veteran, serving in World War II.
Survivors include two sons - Richard Robinett of North Webster, IN and Robert L. Robinett of Denton, TX; two sisters - Evelyn Herron of Cleveland, OH and Lenore Mansfield of Bryan, OH/ A brother preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, April 20, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with Rev. Jeffrey Smith officiating. Burial was in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery located at Marion, IN. Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Catherine M. Metzger
Catherine M. Metzger, 63, of 302 Colonial Lane, North Manchester, IN, died April 15, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born Nov. 1, 1934 in Wabash County to Orville E. and Mae Ellen (Niccum) Metzger.
She was a member of the North Manchester Old German Baptist Church, and had worked for Heckman Bindery for 43 years.
Survivors include five brothers - Leon E., Eldon D., Wilmer R., and Mark W. Metzger all of North Manchester, and Max L. Metzger of Silver Lake; two sisters - Mrs. Billie ()Esther L. Blocher of North Manchester and Mrs. Ernest (Leona K.) Acord Jr. of Atlanta, GA.
Funeral service was held Sunday, April 19, 1998 at the Old German Baptist Church with the Home Brethren o officiating. Burial was in the Old German Baptist Cemetery, located at N. Manchester.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy L. Kirk
Dorothy L. Kirk, 72, of 3871 Hanging Rock Road, Lagro, IN, died Tuesday, April 21, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born Nov. 28, 1925 at Anderson, IN to Charles A. and Mattie (Fink) Sirk. She married Roy O. Kirk in Benton Harbor, MI on Feb. 13, 1945 and he died Oct. 24, 1991. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by two sons, Roy Leon and Norman Wayne, both of Wabash, ION; a daughter, Mrs. Jeff (Sharon) Glaze of Lagro; a sister, Mrs. Elmer (Evelyn) Miller of Adarisville, KY; and four brothers, Carl of Tucson, AZ, James of Benton Harbor, MI, Vern of Coloma, MI and Joe Sirk of Alexandria, IN; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Five sisters, three brothers and a granddaughter preceded her in death.
Friends may call Thursday, April 23, from 5 to 8:30 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel in Wabash where funeral service will be held Friday, April 24, at 10:30 a.m. with Evangelist Paul Travis officiating. Burial will be in Gardens of Memory Cemetery of Marion, IN.
Randy Cooper
Randy Cooper, 37, of 44 N. Surf Dr., North Manchester, IN died Wednesday, April 8, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Nov. 21,1960 at Eaton Rapids, MI to the late Emery Cooper and Levine (Newsome) Cooper of Springport, MI.
He married Irene Harvey August 26, 1980 and she survives. He was an employee of Pierceton Equipment of Laketon, IN.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons - Shawn Randall Cooper of Springport, MI and Nathan Earl Cooper, at home; a sister, Mrs. Michael (Susanne) Fetter of Wabash. A son preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, April 11, 1998 at the Christian Fellowship Church with the Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial was in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the Randy Cooper Memorial Fund, c/o DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, which was in charge of arrangements.
Bonnie E. Daub
Bonnie E. Daub, 71, of 7727 Camadaw Park Lane, Akron, IN 46910, died Tuesday, April 7, 1998 at her residence. She was born Dec. 15, 1926 at Wabash, IN to Ray and Effie (Sirk) Benson.
Mrs. Daub lived most of her life in Van Buren and North Manchester, IN areas; she had been a resident of Akron for 28 years. She married Ralph Daub in 1967, and he died in 1980. For many years, Mrs. Daub was a waitress in many area restaurants. She was a member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha International for 23 years.
Survivors include a son, Gary (Judy) G. Miller of Upland, IN; sisters Pauline Tucker of Wabash and Mrs. Ernest (Dorothy) Rumple of Gas City; and a grandson, Mark Miller of Upland.
Funeral service was held Friday, April 10, 1998 at the Ferguson Funeral Home of Van Buren, IN, with the Rev. Mike Helms officiating. Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, located at Van Buren, IN.
Gladys M. Zink
Gladys M. Zink, 89, of Montgomery, IN died April 9, 1998 at the home of her son at Montgomery, IN. She was formerly of Indianapolis, Wabash, and Andrews, IN. She was born Sept. 5, 1908 at Crawfordsville, IN to Leroy and Maggie (Christie) Pavey.
A homemaker, she was married to O. Glen Zink June 29, 1929, at Indianapolis, IN, and he preceded her in death July 11, 1994.
She was a member of the Dora Christian Church of Lagro.
Survivors include a son, Frederick T. Pavey of Montgomery, IN; and a daughter, Patricia G. Cole of LaFayette, IN. Three brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at the Deal-Robbins & Van Gilder Andrews Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Pefley officiating. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery of Argos, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the Dora Christian Church of Lagro.
David W. Henthorn
David W. Henthorn, 75, of 400 W. Seventh St., North Manchester, died April 9, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Feb. 11, 1923 at Crawfordsville, IN to Everett I. and Grace (Willis) Henthorn, both deceased.
He married Thelma Smith Nov. 16, 1946 in South Bend, IN. They have been residents of Peabody Retirement Community since January, 1998. He was a quality control supervisor for Wabash Alloys for 17 years, and was retired. He had been a member of the Allentown, PA Presbyterian Church and was presently a member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He had been an Urbana resident for many years.
In addition to his wife at Peabody's, he is survived by sons Scott W. Henthorn of Silver Lake, IN and David E. Henthorn of Vacaville, CA; a daughter, Sue Ann Shennan of New Zealand; and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manches-ter Avenue Chapel, Wabash, which was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.
Kelly G. Mays
Kelly Gene Mays, 30, of 565 Stineman St., Wabash, IN died April 11, 1998 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born Jan. 5, 1968 at Marion, IN to Henry and Esther (Conliff) Mays.
He married Susie Ragon on March 8, 1995 in Georgia. He worked for Glen Voris Construction of Laketon, IN. He was a member of the North Manchester Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Susie Mays of Wabash; his father Henry Mays of Marion, IN and his mother and stepfather, Esther and Ronald France of North Manchester; a sister, Shelly Robinson of Liberty Mills, IN; a step brother and step sister, Ronnie and Missy France, both of Warsaw; six step children; 12 step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday), April 15, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with the Rev. Lee Garrard and Rev. James Rowe officiating. Burial was in Converse Cemetery, located at Converse, IN.
Mary J. Merrell
Mary J. Merrell, 69, of Marshall, IL died Friday, April 10, 1998 at Union Hospital of Terre Haute, IN. She was born Dec. 17, 1928 at Wabash, IN to Donald and Marguerite (Shrock) Tomson.
She married Edward Merrell Dec. 17, 1949 in Wabash, and he survives along with a son, Don M. Merrell Sr. of Wabash, two grandsons and six great grandchildren.
Funeral was held today (Wednesday) April 15, 1998 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel, which was in charge of arrangements. The Rev. Melissa Rice officiated, and burial was in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, IN.
Kenneth Summers
Kenneth Dwight Summers, 86, of 1229 Meadowbrook Lane, Wabash, IN died Saturday, April 11, 1998 at Wabash Healthcare Center, Wabash, IN. He was born June 11, 1911 at Huntington, IN to Ira and Joyce (Armstrong) Summers, both deceased.
He married Dorothy L. J. Motz May 14, 1939 in Nine Mile, IN. She died March 28, 1992. He was a farmer and a carpenter. He was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church of Wabash.
He is survived by a daughter, E. Diane Starcher of Canton, OH; two sons - Mark Royce Summers of Quito, Equador, and Noel Eugene Summers of Huntington, IN; a sister, Iva Mae Wygant of Markle, IN and five grandchildren.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 14, 1998 at the Christian & Missionary Alliance Church with Dr. James Walker officiating. Burial was in Star of Hope Cemetery of Huntington, IN.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service of 86 E. Main St. Wabash, was in charge of arrangements.
Mearl (Jeanie) Maple
Mearl (Jeanie) Maple, 69, of 156 E. Maple St., Wabash, IN died Monday, April 13, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born June 20, 1928 at Red Bridge, IN to Jesse D. and Oma E. (Hott) Sweet, both deceased.
She married Charles (Bud) Maple on July 19, 1946 in Summitville, IN; he died May 7, 1979. She retired from K-Mart in Wabash. She was a member of the Somerset Homemakers Club, and was a 1946 graduate of Somerset High School.
She is survived by a son, Barry W. Maple of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Robert (Dena) Hendrix of Wabash; a brother, Robert Sweet of Wabash; and sisters Betty Haines Carr of Greentown, IN and Mrs. Charles (Grace) Flauding of Wabash; and four grandchildren. A daughter preceded her in death.
Friends may call today (Wednesday) at Grandstaff-Hentgen, Main Street Chapel in Wabash. Funeral will be held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel Thursday, April 16, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Howard Tyner and Dr. Bill Moon officiating. Burial will take place in the Mississinewa Cemetery, located at Somerset, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer Society.
