V. L. "Bud" Burch
Voris Lester "Bud" Burch, 85, of 2526 W SR 114, North Manchester, died May 23, 1996 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born July 21, 1910 in Miami County, IN to Donald C. and Nona (Tracy) Burch. He married Mabel Lenora Milam July 4, 1933 in Columbia city. He was a 1926 graduate of Laketon High School. In 1937 he started the Burch Shell Station in North Manchester. He owned and operated the station and the Corner Cupboard Restaurant until his retirement in 1975. He served as Wabash County Councilman from 1966 to1974. He was a member of South Pleasant United Methodist Church, the North Manchester Eastern Star, Deming Lodge #88 F&AM of North Manchester where he was past Master of the Lodge. He was a member of the Fort Wayne Scottish Rite and Fort Wayne Mizpah Shrine. He was a member of the Chester Chapter Royal Arch Masons.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas Burch of North Manchester; two brothers, Harvey L. Burch of North Manchester and Gene Burch of Rochester; two sisters, Mrs. Gaylen (Geneva) Groninger of Plainfield, IN and Mrs. Robert (Nina Marie) DeFord of Wabash; three grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 25 at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service with the Rev. Kent Maxwell officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Ceme-tery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimer's Foundation.
Kenneth D. Brown
Kenneth Dale Brown, 66, of 13 Harley St. Apr. 9, Huntington, IN, died May 23, 1996 at Huntington Memorial Hospital, Huntington, IN. He was born Aug. 15, 1929 in Huntington County to Charles F. and Mildred M. (Bower) Brown.
Kenneth worked at Schaaks Rubber Company in Huntington for many years; then he worked for Shuttleworths in Huntington for eight years, retiring in 1994. He was a Korean War Army Veteran, and was a member of the American Le-gion Post #85 in Huntington.
He is survived two brothers, Richard E. Brown of Huntington and Charles Edwin Brown of North Manchester; and a sister, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Hamilton of Fort Wayne. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 26, at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service with Pastor Patrick Powers officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to the Huntington County Cancer Society.
Madeline Conrad
Madeline L. Conrad, 74, of 906 Norwood Dr., North Manchester, died Thursday, May 23, 1996 at her home. She was born Sept. 16, 1921 to Lamoine and Mildred (Krisher) Bush.
A homemaker, beautician, and former employee at Oppenheim's in North Manchester, she was married to Dwayne Ulrey who died Sept. 24, 1950. She married Joe Conrad Aug. 19, 1955 and he survives.
She was a 1939 graduate of Chester High School. She was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester; Ivy Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star, 39er's Club, and Epsilon Sigma Alpha Gamma Chapter.
Other survivors include a son, Barry Conrad of Marion, IN; daughters, Mrs. Richard (Sara) Whitinger of Warsaw and Mrs. Ralph (Sally) James of North Manchester; and six grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 26, at First Brethren Church with the Rev. Marlin McCann officiating, assisted by Rev. Woodrow Immel. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.

Nettie L. Schneider
Nettie Lucinda Schneider, 91, of 698 E. Milltown Rd., Wooster, OH 44691, died Saturday, April 3, 1999 at Wabash Skilled Care Center of Wabash. She was born Aug. 26, 1907 at Homeworth, OH to Harvey H. and Mary (Stroup) Sanor. She married George Paul Schneider on August 3, 1940 in Homeworth, OH.
She was a member of the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren of Orrville, OH. She was a 1927 graduate of Manchester College; she taught fifth grade in Rittman, OH for many years. She lived most of her married life in Wooster, OH.
She is survived by her husband of Wabash; a son, George P. Schneider, M.D. of Wabash; a daughter, Kathleen Hepner of Dayton, OH; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 10, 1999 at 1:00 p.m. at the East Chippewa Church of the Brethren, Orrville, OH 44667, the Rev. Guy Buch officiating.

Esther L. Chalfant
Esther L. Chalfant, 98, a resident of Wabash Healthcare Center, Wabash, IN, and formerly of Laketon, IN, died Thursday, April 1, 1999 at the Healthcare Center. She was born Dec. 7, 1900 at Huntington County, IN to James William and Eva (Dickerson) Chalfant.
She was retired as a registered nurse and laboratory technician at Columbus Hospital, Chicago. She was a member of the National Audubon Society.
She never married, but is survived by nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers and four sisters.
Graveside service was held at 1:00 p.m. today, Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN with the Rev. Jay Taylor officiating.

Paul J. France Sr.
Paul James France Sr., 71, of 4216 S 100 W, Wabash, IN, died Friday, April 2, 1999 at his residence. He was born Feb. 19, 1928 in Wabash County to Jacob Edward and Mary Jane (Scott) France. He married Rosanna Simpson on June 12, 1949 in Logansport, IN.
He worked at Diehl Machines for 13 years, and then worked at General Tire for 24 years as a machinist, retiring in 1990. He was a World War II Navy veteran, and was a member of the American Legion in Lagro, IN; he was also a member of the VFW and Eagles Lodge, both of Wabash.
In addition to his wife, Rosanna, he is survived by a son, Paul James France Jr., of Lagro; two sisters _ Mrs. Dale (Edith) Sheets of Akron, IN and Mrs. Everette (Geraldine) Behney of Wabash; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, with the Rev. Robert L. Brown, Sr., officiating. Burial was in the Friends Cemetery of

Evadean M. Deardorff
Evadean M. Deardorff, 90, of 1213 Lakeshore Dr., Rochester, IN, died March 30, 1999 at her residence. She was born Jan. 2, 1909 in Richland Township, Fulton County, IN to George LeRoy and Jane Elizabeth (Beck) Halterman. She had been a Rochester resident since 1972, having resided at Roann, IN prior to that.
She was a graduate of Richland Center High School and Manchester College. She was a member of the Indiana Retired Teachers Association and the N.E.A. She was a teacher in Fulton and Wabash counties for 41 years. She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Rochester.
She married Harold M. Deardorff May 28, 1938 in South Bend, IN; he preceded her in death Sept. 29, 1972.
She is survived by a sister, Margaret E. Newman of Rochester, IN; a brother, Otis Halterman and his wife Adlene, also of Rochester; two sisters-in-law - Eileen Petersen of Rochester and Mary Halterman of South Bend; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers and a nephew.
Funeral service was held Friday, April 2, 1999 at Foster and Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. Don Brenneman officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery of Rochester. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
Frederick Smith
Fred Smith, 86, of Wabash Health Care, Wabash, Ind. and formerly of 6899 S 200 E, Wabash, IN, died Wednesday, March 30, 1999 at Wabash Health Care. He was born Aug. 14, 1912 in Miami County, Indiana to Jacob and Tena (Lorenz) Smith. He married Pauline L. Palmer Oct. 26, 1935 and she died March 30, 1991.
Mr. Smith owned and operated Smith Fruit Co. for 15 years. He also drove a school bus for 22 years, and farmed and raised purebred Duroc hogs for 40 years. He was a member of the Emmanuel Free Will Baptist Church of Wabash.
Survivors include two sons, Ronnie and Richard Smith, both of Wabash; and two grandsons. A brother and a sister, as well as a grandson preceded him in death.
Graveside service was held Friday at Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash, with the Rev. Doug Phillips officiating.

Marilyn T. Yoder
Marilyn Troyer Yoder, 56, of 502 N. Mill Street, North Manchester, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at her residence. She was born May 29, 1942 at Columbus, OH to M. Raymond and Kathryn (Hartzler) Troyer. She married Bradley L. Yoder June 29, 1968, and he survives.
She was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren. She was also a member of the Mental Health Counselors Association; Volunteer Victim Advocate, Women's Services, Family Service Society of Wabash; member of Prevent Child Abuse, Indiana; Step Ahead Council of Wabash County; Mental Health Association in Wabash County, and North Manchester Choral Society.
She was a 1964 graduate of Goshen College, earning a B.A. in Education; she received the M.S. in Educational Psychology from Butler University in 1967 and obtained Advanced Certification in Counseling from Indiana University in 1989. She was a teacher at Speedway and Wayne Township (Marion County, IN) Schools from 1964-69; was a counselor at the Addiction Care Center in Wabash from 1987-89; a school counselor in Warsaw Community Schools from 1990-92, and was an outpatient counselor for Bowen Center;s Wabash Office from 1993-99.
In addition to her husband, Bradley, she is survived by three daughters - Greta Yoder Holloway of North Manchester, Sonya Yoder of Indianapolis, and Heidi Yoder of Elizabethtown, PA; four brothers - Dennis Troyer of Birmingham, AL, David Troyer of Morton, IL, Jon Troyer of Middlebury, IN, and Norman Troyer of Goshen, IN; two sisters - Betty Hartzler of Ft. Myers, FL and Janet Yordy of St. Jacobs, Ontario; and one grandchild.
Friends may call at Cordier Auditorium on Manchester College campus, North Manchester, IN, Friday, April 9, from 4 to 6 and 7 to 9 p.m.; also one hour prior to funeral service.
Funeral service will be held at Cordier Auditorium Saturday, April 10, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. The Revs. Susan Boyer and Christen Miller-Rieman will officiate.

Cecil R. Burkett
Cecil R. Burkett, 63, of 11173 North SR
13, North Manchester, IN, died Sunday, April 4, 1999 at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. He was born Oct. 29, 1935 at Ora, IN to Cecil E. and Blanch (Whetstone) Burkett, both deceased. He married Phyllis Hunnicutt June 20, 1953, and she survives.
Mr. Burkett was an employee of North Manchester Foundry for 30 years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons - Norman Burkett and Tim Burkett, both of North Manchester; three brothers - Roger Burkett of North Judson, IN, Gary Burkett of Ora, IN, and Randy Burkett of Peachtree, AL; three sisters - Mrs. William (Mary Ann) Martin of Culver, IN, Mrs. Robert (Linda) Drang of Alabama, and Mrs. Earl (Judy) Tillman of Flat Rock, AL; and seven grandchildren - Travise, Tim, Terry Jr., Logan, Emily, Nora and Claire Burkett.

Ella M. Butcher
Ella Mae Butcher, 64, of 160 Webster Street, Lagro, IN, died Monday, April 5, 1999 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born May 13, 1934 at Mingo County, WV to Ezra and Mabel (Fields) Fitch. She married Frank Butcher July 26, 1974.
Ella Mae lived in Lagro for 22 years. She was a homemaker and previously worked at General Tire in Wabash.
She is survived by her husband Frank, of Lagro; two daughters, Emma Dale Taylor of Fort Wayne and Lori Butcher of Wabash; two sons - the Rev. Marshall Staten of Peru and Jerry Staten of Wabash; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
