Harold Brandenburg
Harold Brandenburg, 68, of 437 South First St., Pierceton, IN, died Tuesday, April 6, 1999 at Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born June 6, 1930 in Kosciusko County, IN to Charles and Elta (Caufman) Brandenburg. He married Ileana Fitch Feb. 4, 1950 at Liberty Mills, IN.
A Pierceton, IN area resident most of his life, he was a former Danek employee, retired after 17 years. He was employed by Precision Plastics of Columbia city, IN, was Sidney, IN Town Marshall from 1958-1966, and was formerly a volunteer fireman for the Sidney Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Ileana of Pierceton; three daughters - Bonnie E. Brandenburg and Linda Renschler, both of South Whitley, IN and Kay Miller of Warsaw; two sons - Harold Brandenburg of North Manchester and Robert Brandenburg of Fort Wayne; 13 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren; three brothers - Howard and Frank Brandenburg, both of Wabash, IN and Edward Brandenburg of Warsaw; three sisters - Allene Abbott of Urbana, Doris Ebbinghouse of North Manchester, and Juna Brandenburg of Kokomo.
Friends may call at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel of Pierceton from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday; funeral service will be held at the McHatton-Sadler Funeral Saturday, April 10, 1999 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ron Sheranko officiating. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery of Pierceton, IN.
Helen M. Beeler
Helen M. Beeler, 85, of North Manchester, died Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Forest Park Healthcare Center, Kokomo, where she had been a resident since September 1993. She was born April 5, 1914 in Sidney, IN, a daughter of William and Blanche Christian Cowgill. She completed her education at Sidney High School.
She was united in marriage to Russell W. Beeler April 26, 1933. They made their home in Sidney. In the '70s, they moved to their home in North Manchester. Mr. Beeler died Nov. 13, 1983.
Mrs. Beeler was employed at Bryan's in North Manchester for 30 years and she was last employed at Peabody Home in North Manchester for 12 years.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Joe (Carolyn) Price of Kokomo; a son and his wife, William C. and Joy Beeler of Kokomo; three grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a sister, Pauline Jones of Forest Grove, OR.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Wesley Cowgill and a sister, Bethel Johnson.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999 at South Whitley Cemetery. Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Thursday at Smith and Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.

Ruth Lee Stouffer
Ruth Lee Stouffer, 83, of 1471 Pike St., Wabash, IN, died at her residence Monday, May 3, 1999. She was born Nov. 28, 1915 at Superior, WI to Charles and Julia (Blocher) Lee. She was married to Joseph Leonard Stouffer in Wabash on June 5, 1935; he preceded her in death Oct. 26, 1984.
Mrs. Stouffer was valedictorian of her graduating class at Laketon High School in 1934. She was a professional photographer from the 1930s to 1970, operating the Stouffer Studio on Pike Street in Wabash. She was an accomplished porcelain painter and quilter, remaining active in quilting almost to the day of her passing. She was a member of the Wabash Friends Church.
A free spirit and creative woman, she was fascinated by electricity. She owned every electrical appliance and gadget invented since World War II. Married to a quiet farmer, she took an active part in the farm management even though it wasn't always encouraged. In her later years, she developed a love for Indy-car racing and Formula I racing from Europe.
Survivors include a son, William P. (Ellen) Stouffer of Wabash; three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Janet) Sweet of Wabash, Mrs. John (Bette) Brane of Markle, IN, and Mrs. Dan (Jody) LaSalle of San Diego, CA; a brother, Arthur Lee of Phoenix, AZ; 13 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A brother, Oscar Lee, preceded her in death.
Friends may call at the Stouffer Gallery, 64 W. Canal Street in Wabash (two doors west of Blooeys). A special exhibition of her black and white photography accompanies the viewing.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, May 6, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wabash Friends Church with the Rev. David Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery of Wabash.
Arrangements are by Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service. Preferred memorials are to the Wabash Friends Church.
Betty M. Gruwell
Betty M. Gruwell, 89, a resident of Grace Village Retirement Community, Winona Lake, IN, died Monday, May 3, 1999 at Grace Village Healthcare Center. She was born March 12, 1910 at Wabash, IN to William and Louella (Winebrenner) Brown. She married Harley Gruwell July 1, 1933, and he preceded her in death June of 1975.
She graduated from Wabash High School, and was an employee of the former Burns Bakery of North Manchester. Later she and her husband established the Gruwell Bakery at South Whitley, IN. She was a member of the Women of the Moose and VFW Auxiliary, both of North Manchester. She attended South Whitley Church of God.
Survivors include two sons - Edward (Karolyn) Barrus of Leesburg, IN and Robert (Sharlene) Gruwell of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren - DeWayne Barrus, Diane Thomson, Richard Gruwell, all of Fort Wayne, Mark Gruwell of Dunlap, IN and Tom Gruwell of Laotto, IN.; 9 great grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. One grandchild, David Barrus, And two sisters preceded her in death.

Betty R. Bunch
Betty R. Bunch, 73, a resident of Fort Wayne, died Monday, May 3, 1999 at St. Joe Hospital. She had been hospitalized since March 8. She was born Aug. 2, 1925 in North Manchester, IN, a daughter of Austin and Zelma (Eby) Blickenstaff. Her formative years were spent in North Manchester where she graduated from Chester High School.
On Feb. 5, 1944 she was united in marriage to Billy J. Bunch. They made their home in Marion, North Manchester, Columbia City, and since 1990 in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Bunch died April 7, 1998. She was employed at RCA in Marion, Heckman Bindery and Peabody Home in North Manchester.
She is survived by four daughters - Mrs. Douglas (Karen E.) Stoldt of Somerset, Mrs. Pashalis (Dianna K.) Evangelidis of Rome City, Mrs. Michael (Judy A.) Rucker of Columbia City and Mrs. Jeffrey (Toni R.) Vachon of New Haven; a son, John W. Bunch of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren; two step grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; a sister, Geraldine Howard of North Manchester; and a half sister, Charlotte Carpenter of California.
Friends may call at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 6, 1999 with Rev. Jean Moorman Brindel, pastor of Leo United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in South Whitley Cemetery.

Elehew Anderson Dalton
Elehew Anderson Dalton, 62, of 355 N. Wabash Ave., North Manchester, IN died May 2, 1999 at his residence. He was born Nov. 9, 1936 at Logan, WV to Edward and Christean (Tomblin) Dalton, both deceased.
He married Carol Sue Patrick Aug. 23, 1962 in Whitman, W. Va. He retired in 1982 from the Amherst Coal Co. No. 7 mine in Slagel, WV, after 32 years of employment. He was a member of the Local #5958 United Mine Workers of America in Slagel, WV. He attended the Church of God.
Survivors include his wife, Carol Sue Dalton of North Manchester; four sons, David Douglas Dalton of Springhill, FL, Charles Riley Dalton Sr. of Anderson, IN, and Jerome and Richard Lee Dalton, both of North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. James (Tammy Sue) Griffey of North Manchester; two sisters - Lethia Pauline Duty of Chapmanville, WV and Cora Lee Dingess of North Manchester; grandsons, Charles Riley Dalton Jr. of Anderson, IN, and Corey Lee Dalton and Joshua Edward Griffey, both of North Manchester; and granddaughters Amanda Sue Dalton and Roxanne Dalton, both of Anderson and Candace Marie Elizabeth Griffey of North Manchester. Five brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral was held today, Wednesday, May 5, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel with Jack Martin officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.

Rex Perry
Word has been received that Rex Perry, 61, son of Dorothy Perry, died May 1 in Tijuana, Mexico of Cancer. He is a nephew of Wayne Collett.
He owned the 3M Company in Lima, OH where he and his family made their home. The funeral will be in Lima at Seifert West Funeral Home.
Harlan B. Stephens
Harlan B. Stephens, 65, of 12453 N SR 15, North Manchester, IN, died April 30, 1999 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Oct. 2, 1933 at Salyersville, KY to Andy and Bertie ()Allen) Stephens, both deceased.
He never married, but lived with his Aunt Goldie Allen family for the last 55 years. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene, North Manchester.
He is survived by two brothers, Clifford Stephens of LaPorte, IN and Frank Stephens of N.C.; a sister, Darlene Stephens of Knox, IN.
Funeral service was held Monday, May 3, 1999 at the Church of the Nazarene, W. Main St., North Manchester, IN with the Rev. Darrell Cox officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester.

Carl E. Metz
Carl E. Metz, 86, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Friday, Apr. 30, 1999 at Peabody Healthcare Center. He was born Apr. 17, 1913 at Willow Hill, IL to Charles H. and Luella M. (Adamson) Metz. He married Bessie Strange on Dec. 23, 1972 in Wabash, IN and she died June 13, 1993.
He worked for Celotex in Lagro, as a truck driver for 29 years. He was a World War II Army veteran, where he earned the following medals: the Purple Heart, the Silver Battle Star, the Gold Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star Medal and six overseas Service Bars. He was a member of the Lagro American Legion.
He is survived by three step sons, Charles and Carroll Strange, both of Wabash, and Harold Strange of Lagro; a step daughter, Mrs. Ken (Fran) Norman of Lagro; a brother, Ivan Metz of Vancouver, WA; two sisters - Peggy Robinson of Mt. Carmel, IL and Norma Maurice of Jacksonville, FL; 26 step grandchildren; 34 step great grandchildren; and eight step great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a step son, three brothers, two sisters, a step grandchild, a step great grandchild and a step great great grandchild.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, May 4, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with the Rev. Stephen Eckart officiating. Cremation was to follow.

Max L. Stevens
Max L. Stevens, 75, of 1681 N. Miami Street, Wabash, IN, died Friday, Apr. 30, 1999 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born June 28, 1923 in Grant County, IN to Fred and Lena (Ferris) Stevens. He married Mary Clark on Jan. 11, 1947 in LaFontaine, IN.
He was a member of Wabash Christian Church and a 50-year member of the LaFontaine Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of the Wabash Chapter #90 Order of the Eastern Star, a 50-year member of the Wabash American Legion, and a member of the Wabash Elks Lodge. He was an Army Air Corp veteran of WW II. He retired from Ford Meter Box after 40 years, where he was supervisor of the Ball Valve Department.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of Wabash; a son, David (Ginni) Stevens of Wabash; and a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Sheryl) Rust of Wabash; a granddaughter, Amy Rust of Ft. Wayne, a grandson, Joel Rust of Wabash; and a sister, Betty Smith of Pasadena, TX. Two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Sunday, May 2, 1999 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, Wabash with Rev. Ron Zorn officiating. Masonic services were held Saturday evening at the funeral home. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorial is to the Wabash Christian Church.
Oliver B. Hall
Oliver B. Hall, 67, of 113 N. Maple Street, Converse, IN, died Monday, May 5, 1997 at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System of Marion, IN. He was born June 18, 1929 at Niles, MI to Louis and Daisy Maxine (Heeter) Hall, both deceased. He lived in the Marion area for 25 years.
He made his home with Helen Clinton Boaz of Converse and Owen and Margaret Smith, also of Converse. He is survived by a daughter, Shelia Kay Sorg of North Manchester, and a sister, Sally Bower of Kalamazoo, MI; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
An Army veteran, having served in the Korean conflict, he was also a member of the Moose Lodge #253, Marion. Graveside military rites were held today (Wednesday) at the Marion Na-tional Cemetery, following fu-neral service at the Larrison-Martin Duncan Funeral Home of Converse. Rev. Tim Morbitzer officiated the funeral and burial services.
Violet M. Carpenter
Violet M. Carpenter, 91, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, and formerly of 1015 N. Cass St., Wabash, IN, died Thursday, May 1, 1997 at Peabody Health-care Center. She was born July 3, 1905 at Clearfield, PA to Frank William and Emma Catherine Johnson, both deceased.
She was a homemaker, married to Charles E. Carpenter Sept. 4, 1925; Mr. Carpenter died Dec. 9, 1980.
She was a member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church, Wabash, IN.
Survivors include a son, R. Ray Carpenter of Indianapolis; a sis-ter, Dove McCain of Akron, OH; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Private graveside services were held at Lindenwood Ceme-tery, Akron, OH. DeLaughter McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
