John L. Blakely
John L. Blakely, 48, of 750 Cement Ave., Lagro, IN died Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at his residence. He was born June 28, 1949 at Muncie, IN to Jay C. and Martha (Hawley) Blakely, both deceased. He married Connie L. Bodenhorn in Elkton, Maryland on Nov. 27, 1968.
He was a member of the Wabash Trinity Lutheran Church, a member of the Indiana Sheriff's Association, and the National Sheriff's Association. John was a deputy sheriff for the Wabash County Sheriff's Department for 14 years. He also worked for the Muncie Police Department from 1973-1979 and the North Manchester Police Dept. from 1979-1983.
He is survived by his wife, Connie, of Lagro; a son, Jon "Doug" Blakely of Wabash; two daughters, Mrs. Rodney (Marty) Haupert and Mrs. Jamie (Kayla) Fawley, both of Wabash; a brother, Phillip Blakely of Portland, IN; and three grandchildren. A sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call Thursday, June 11, 1998 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel in Wabash from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Grandstaff-Hentgen, Manchester Ave. Chapel Friday, June 12, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with the Pastor James Engel officiating. Burial will take place in the Memorial Lawns Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer Society.

Beverly Richardson
Beverly Ann Richardson, 68, of Elkhart, IN and Palm City, FL, died Thursday, June 4, 1998 at Hospice of Martin, St. Lucie in Stuart, FL following an extended illness from can-cer.
A 49-year resident of Elkhart, she and her husband, Robert, have wintered at Pipers Landing, Stuart, FL since January 1988. Prior to this they were winter residents of Marathon, FL for 11 years.
Mrs. Richardson was born in Detroit, MI, moving to North Manchester, IN in 1935. The daughter of Charles and Esther Jane Sheller, who pre-deceased her in 1949 and 1993, she also had a sister, Barbara Spencer, who passed away in 1989. A son, William, died in 1985. In 1949 she married Dr. H. R. Swihart in North Manchester; he died in 1972. In 1974 she married Robert Richardson, also in North Manchester. He survives, along with three children - Stephen Swihart of Bloomington, IN; Susan Jayroe of Tucson, AZ; Jane Hagale of Houston, TX; and three stepchildren, Leslie Simpson of Ladue Missouri; Mark Richardson of Greenwood Village, CO, and Matt Richardson of Madison, WI. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren.
For many years Mrs. Richardson was active in community affairs, including serving as a director of the Elkhart YMCA with a special interest in their youth camp; also the Elkhart and Indiana Medical Auxiliary, and the Elkhart Civic Theater. While in Florida she was most active in her community as well as having a strong interest in art in which she either organized or participated in many work-shops.
Cremation will be in Palm City with a memorial service to take place in Elkhart Friday, June 12, 2 p.m. at Augustana Lutheran Church.
If desired, memorials may be given to the Beverly Richardson Student Aid Fund, Hillsdale, College, Hillsdale, MI 49242; The Hospice of Martin, St. Lucie, 2030 S.E. Ocean Blvd., Stuart, FL 34996; Elkhart Community Hospice, 600 East Blvd., Elkhart, IN 46515, or the charity of choice. No flowers please.

Frederick L. Rantz
Frederick L. Rantz, 72, of 937 Cambridge Cr., Wabash, IN, died Saturday, June 6, 1998 at Miller's Merry Manor East of Wabash. He was born June 18, 1925 at Roann, IN to Loren and Thelma (Sarber) Rantz. He married Alice Cramer in August 1949.
Mr. Rantz was a member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church, a life member of the Wabash American Legion Post 15 and a member of the Wabash Elks Lodge. He retired from Container Corp/Jefferson Smurfit in Wabash in 1987 after 35 years. He was the Wabash Community Service Athletic Director for softball and basketball for 40-plus years, and a dis-trict director for the Amateur Softball Association. He was a World War II Marine Corp veteran.
Survivors include his wife Alice of Wabash; a son, Gary F. Rantz of Lafayette, IN; a sister, Mrs. Charles "Wally" (Doris) Hunt of Wabash; and a granddaughter. A brother and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held to-day, June 10, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel with the Rev. Jeffrey Smith officiating. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery of Roann. Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.

Jean E. Martinez
Jean Ellen (Parrett) Martinez, 6, of 1745 S. Wabash St., Wabash, IN died Friday, June 5, 1998 at Community Care Center of Wabash. She was born Jan. 30, 1930 at Lagro, IN to Jesse and Agness (Ballard) Parrett. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Mitchel Howard Jr. of Wabash; a brother, Carl Parrett of Wabash; and a sister Evelyn Richards of Marion; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Four brothers and six sisters preceded her in death.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, June 9, 1998 at the Falls Cemetery of Wabash, IN with Raymond Rhoads offici-ating.

Margaret D. Hart
Margaret D. Hart, 81, of Rolling Meadows Health Care, Lafontaine, IN, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998 at the Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 2, 1916 at Washington, PA to William and Anna Mary (Powell) Howell.
Mrs. Hart was widowed; she has been a resident of Wabash County since June, 1993. She lived with her son, Ray Hart, prior to moving to Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center. She was a homemaker and at-tended the Avery Methodist Church in Washington, PA before moving to Wabash.
Survivors include the son, Ray, of Wabash; three grand-children, and five great grandchildren. Two sisters preceded her in death.
Graveside service was held in Washington Cemetery, Washington, PA with Dr. Allyn L. Ricketts officiating on June 6, 1998.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

J. Wayne Layton
Josephine Wayne Layton, 89, of 6 Laurel Drive, North Manchester, died Wednesday (today) 3:40 a.m. at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born Nov. 29, 1907 at Lewisburg, WV to Zack and Bessie (Winall) Bills, both deceased. She married Wendell H. Layton Sept. 1, 1940 in Lewisville, IN, and he survives. She was a resident of North Manchester since 1956, coming from Connersville, IN.
She received a certificate in Dramatics from the Indianapolis School of Music and Fine Arts. She served as a secretary in the alumni office at Manchester College for several years, retiring in 1972. She was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church, and the Order of Eastern Start of Knightstown, IN.
In addition to her husband, Wendell, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Beverly) Horton of North Fort Myers, FL; a brother, George R. Bills of Dunreith, IN; two grandchildren; three step grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. A sister and a grandchild preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held at North Manchester United Methodist Church Friday, June 13, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. William Hemmig officiating. Eastern Star service will be at 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Friends may call at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service Thursday, June 12, 19987 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., and one hour prior to funeral service at the church; a graveside service will be held Friday, 2:30 p.m. in the Lewisville Cemetery, Lewisville, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the North Manchester United Methodist Church.

Richard G. Schubert
Word has been received that Richard G. Schubert, husband of Beth Baker and son-in-law of Betty Baker, died May 29, 1997 at Parker, Colorado.

Samantha I. Warner
Samantha I. Warner, 8 months, of 1324 Zollars Ave., Ft. Wayne, IN, died June 4, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne. She was born Sept. 20, 1996 to Mark E. and Kathy M. (Beerer) Warner of Fort Wayne.
The baby is survived by her parents, the paternal grandmother, Lois Warner of Fort Wayne; maternal grandparents Ralph and Charlotte Beerer of Coldwater, MI; paternal great grandmother Ethel Ulsh of Laketon; two step sisters - Sabrina I. and Startina I. Warner, both of Ft. Wayne.
There is no service or calling planned. Arrangements are by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary of 1401 SR 114W, No. Manchester.

Edna V. Kelly
Edna Vida Kelly, 86, of 2563W 700S, Wabash, IN died June 5, 1997, 7:30 a.m. at Miller's Merry Manor East, Wabash. She was born Feb. 6, 1911 at Wabash to Joel and Lettie Viola May (Brooks) Sopher, both deceased. She married Jesse LeRoy Kelly Feb. 9, 1929, and he preceded her in death Jan. 9, 1952.
She was a member of the Ijamsville United Methodist Church for approximately 50 years. She cooked at Laketon High School for 18 years (1953-1971), and also worked as private home care provider. She lived most of her life in Wabash County. She was a charter member of AARP and the Beacon House in Wabash County.
She is survived by four sons - LeRoy of Wabash, Paul of Lagro, Donald of North Ft. Myers, FL, and John of Mount Morris, IL; four daughters - Mrs. William (Margie) Bell of Caro, MI, Mrs. Willadean Porter of Wabash, Mrs. David (Joann) Thrush and Mrs. Donald (Jeanette) Pearson, both of Las Vegas, NV; a sister, Retha Z. Coe of Wabash; 27 grandchildren, three foster grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, and four foster great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, a son, three brothers, and a sister.
Funeral service was held Sunday, June 8, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel in Wabash with the Rev. Robert L. Brown officiating. Burial was in Laketon Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Senior Citizen Center.

Larry C. Wieland
Lawrence "Larry" C. Wieland, 77, of 201 Willow Way, Timbercrest Commu-nity, No. Manchester, IN., died Thursday, June 12, 1997 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. He was born May 5, 1920 Barry County, MI to Ray and Wilmina (Troyer) Wieland, both deceased. He married Betty L. Canter Sept. 15, 1946, and she survives.
He had served as Comp-troller of Manchester College from 1968-1995, com-ing from Hastings, Michigan, where he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Hastings Chamber of Commerce, and Hastings School Board. He served as chairman of the Barry County (MI) March of Dimes, and for 10 years as au-ditor for Barry County Red Cross.
He graduated as valedictorian of Freeport (MI) High School in 1937, and from Manchester College in 1942 and did post graduate work at Stanford University. He was a member of the Founding Board of Directors of Shepherd's Center, North Manchester, a member of Friends of Manchester College, and received the Alumni Service Award from Manchester College in 1992. He served as a volunteer at Timbercrest Retirement Com-munity and at Manchester College following his retire-ment.
In addition to his wife, Betty, he is survived by a son, Dr. Rex A. Wieland of North Manchester; daughters Mrs. Robert (Ann) Gump of Monaca, PA and Mrs. Brian (Tammy) Nelson of Orlando, FL; a brother, Ray Wieland of Hastings, MI; sisters Lola Posthumus of Alto, MI, Mrs. Karl (Iris) Livingston of Grand Rapids, MI and Darlene Vanderwood of Middleville, MI; and nine grandchildren, including Heather, Kyle, Heidi, and Kasha Wieland, all of North Manchester; Kelli, Shawna and Lindsey Gump, all of Monaca, PA, and Gunnar and Savannah Nelson of Orlando, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
He was a member of the Manchester Church of the Brethren, and was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Memorial service was held Sunday, June 15, 1997 at Timbercrest Chapel with the Rev. David Wolfe officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester. Preferred memorials are to Manchester College or Timbercrest Crestwood Project.

Stephen R. Shambaugh
Stephen R. Shambaugh, 44, of 789 W. Hill St., Wabash, IN, died Friday, June 13, 1997 at his residence. He was born April 16, 1953 at Wabash, IN to Robert G. and Patricia A. (O'Dell) Shambaugh.
He was employed as a maintenance worker at GenCorp in Wabash.
Survivors include a son, Artemus Shambaugh of Wabash; his parents, also of Wabash; and sisters Cheryl Wilson of North Manchester and Susan Stewart of Wabash.
Funeral service was held today, Wednesday, June 18, 1997 at the Grandstaff-Hentgen, Main Street Chapel, Wabash. The Rev. J. P. Freeman officiated and burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Fred K. Eichholtz
Fred K. Eichholtz, 090 a resident of Miller's Merry Manor East, Wabash, died at Miller's Wednesday, June 11, 1997. He was born Jan. 22, 1907 at Liberty Mills, IN to John and Abigail (Meadows) Eichholtz, both deceased. He married Viola M. Blocher in February, 1946, and she died March 21, 1996.
He was retired from Woodcraft Company, North Manchester.
He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Warsaw, and was a W.W.II U.S. Army veteran.
He is survived by three sons - Eldon Eichholtz of Liberty Mills, IN, and Ronald Eich-holtz and Victor Eichholtz, both of Lakeland, FL; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was pre-ceded in death by a brother.
Funeral service was held Saturday, June 14, 1997 with Rev. Stan Wilkinson officiating. Burial was in the Old German Baptist Cemetery, North Manchester.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortu-ary was in charge of arrangements.
