Boyd B. Powell
Boyd Bowen Powell, 79, of 702 E. Walnut St., Akron, IN, died Saturday, June 27, 1998 at St. Joseph Medical Center, Ft. Wayne, IN. He was born Oct. 14, 1918 near Akron, IN to Benjamin and Kitty (Bowen) Powell, both deceased.
He was first married to Ruth Naomi DeHaven who preceded him in death Nov. 12, 1981. He married Edith F. Smith Olsen July 1, 1983 at Akron, and she survives.
Mr. Powell lived his entire life in the Akron area. He was a former employee of Chamberlains Products Co. of Akron where he was a tool and die maker. He was an Akron area farmer for many years and was a real estate agent in the Kosciusko, Wabash and Fulton County areas, associated with Hoosier I Realty of North Manchester, IN.
He attended the Akron Church of God and was a member of the Realtors Associations in Fulton, Kosciusko and Wabash counties.
Survivors include his wife, Edith of Akron; a daughter, Beverly Ross of Bashore, KS; six sons - Oliver Powell and wife Patricia of Denver, IN; Larry Powell and wife Carol of Ft. Myers, FL; Robert Powell and wife Jana of Fort Wayne; Roland Powell and wife Debbie of Akron; Dennis Powell and wife Marsha of Bluffton; and Mark Powell and wife Rebecca of Macy; a step daughter, Sherryl Army of Warsaw; 20 grandchildren and several great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Julie Powell of Warsaw. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Dawn Marie Powell and a brother, Glenn E. Powell.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at the Foster & Good Funeral Home of Akron, IN with the Rev. Lowell Burris officiating. Burial was in Omega Cemetery, located west of Akron.
Preferred memorials may be made to either the Akron Church of God or the Olive Branch Church of God of Roann, IN.
Truman L. Baker
Truman Lamoine Baker, 78, of 950 Tipton St., Lagro, IN, died Saturday, June 27, 1998 at Wabash Skilled Care Center of Wabash, IN. He was born Jan. 4, 1920 in Wabash County to Frank and Jane (Moore) Baker, both deceased. He married Helen Speelman in Lagro, IN Feb. 14, 1942.
He was a member of the Lagro Presbyterian Church, and a member of the 80th & 82nd Airborne Division in the U.S. Army. He retired in 1985 from Ford meter Box Co. in Wabash; he had also worked at Celotex in Lagro and Diehl Machines in Wabash.
He is survived by his wife, Helen of Lagro; a daughter, Barbara Marshall of Lagro; sons Sam Baker of Wabash and Rick Baker of Lagro; brothers Thomas Baker of Huntington and Paul Baker of Lagro; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held today (Wednesday, July 1, 1998) at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, with Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial was in Lagro Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Cancer Society or the Lagro Presbyterian Church.
Mary V. Hoover
Mary Vivan Hoover, 94, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Monday, June 29, 1998 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born Aug. 5, 1903 in North Manchester to Oliver and Florence (Morgan) Williams. She married Otto (Jack) Hoover in Michigan on July 5, 1921, and he died November 20, 1990.
She was a member of the First Brethren Church in North Manchester. She was also a member of the Ivy Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in North Manchester.
She is survived by two daughters - Margret Lefforge of Bristol, IN and Mrs. Arlene Clark DeLancey of North Manchester; six grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Graveside service was held today (Wednesday, July 1, 1998) at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester, with the Rev. Marlin McCann officiating.
Preferred memorials are to the Caring Circle at Peabody or to the First Brethren Church in North Manchester. Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Francis M. Walters
Francis M. Walters, 70, of Marion, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at Wesleyan Healthcare Center. He was born Dec. 27, 1927 in Kosciusko County to Fredrick and Ethel (Johnson) Walters.
He was a manufacturing laborer for 45 years and served in the U.S. Navy from 1945 to 1948. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 10 and the AMVETS Post No. 5, both in Marion.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Michael (Anna) Negro, Bellflower, CA, Mrs. Bill (Cheryl) Splettstoesser, Sonora, CA, and Mrs. John (Barbara) Gilford, Seal Beach, CA; a brother, Miles Walters of North Manchester, and seven grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, with the Rev. Darrell Cox officiating.

Robert E. Rumpf
Robert E. Rumpf, 82, of 924 Cottage Ave., Wabash, IN, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at Millers Merry Manor, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born March 25, 1916 at Wabash, IN to Herman C. and Golda (Hutchens) Rumpf. He married Margaret Grindle June 20, 1937 in Wabash; she died Nov. 1, 1997.
Mr. Rumpf was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, was treasurer and fi nancial secretary for more than 10 years, also was lay leader and a member of the choir.
He was employed with G.M. Diehl Machine Works in Wabash for 20 years as Purchasing Agent. He served as private secretary for the Machine Knife Association and the Beater, Jordan Association. He became a partner and co-owner of F.J. Rettig and Sons in 1956, retired in 1981. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was LCT Group Staff Yeoman in the Pacific Fleet. He was a charter member of the Breakfast Exchange Club, and was selected as the first Father of the Year in Wabash in 1957 by the Wabash Chamber of Commerce.
Survivors include two sons - Stephen A. Rumpf of New York City, and David A. Rumpf of Leo, IN; a brother, C. William Rumpf and a sister, Mrs. Hubert (Dorothy) Hahn, both of Wabash; half sisters, Mrs. Lowell (Marilyn) Karns of Wabash, Mrs. Ross (Patricia) Ulmer of Clinton, MS, Linda Mattern and Priscilla Etter, both of Wabash; granddaughters Shannon Hack of Fort Wayne and Kristy Rumpf of Leo, IN. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call at Grandstaff-Hentgen, Main Street Chapel in Wabash Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Funeral will be held at Christ United Methodist Church Friday, July 3, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Melissa Rice officiating. Burial will take place in Falls Cemetery, located at Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to Christ United Methodist Church. Grandstaff-Hentgen, Main Street Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Gertrude Spehn
Gertrude Spehn, 99, of Community Care Center, Wabash, IN, died Saturday, July 6, 1996 at Community Care Center. She was born March 1, 1897 at Sheboygan, WI to John and Annetta (Kruger) Beekman. She married Rudolph Spehn April 1920, and he died January 27, 1978.
A son, Gerald Spehn of Denver, CO survives. Four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
She was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church of North Manchester, a member of Women of the Moose, American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, and Eagles Lodge, all of North Manchester.
Graveside service was held Tuesday, July 9, 1996 at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester with the Rev. Robert Schmeiser officiating. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary.
William T. Bramlett
William T. Bramlett, 77, of Floyds Knobs, IN, passed away at 8:05 p.m. Monday, July 8, 1996 at Floyd Memorial Hospital, New Albany, IN.
He was a native of Indianapolis, IN and formerly owned and operated W. T. Bramlett Inc. He was a member of Depauw Memorial United Methodist Church, the New Albany Elks Lodge #270 and Rotary Club of New Albany. He was also a member of Gideons, International, the Wabash, Indiana Masonic Lodge and the Kosair Shrine of Louisville, KY, and the American Legion at Wabash.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy (Knight) Bramlett, a sister, Nancy Myrick of Chiefland, FL and two grandchildren.
Friends may call at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Market Street Funeral Home Thursday from 1 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Seabrook Dieckmann & Naville Market Street Chapel. Interment will be in Abundant Life Memorial Gardens, New Albany, IN. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Gideons.
Kent D. Quinn
Kent D. Quinn, 53, of 311 W SR 13, No. Manchester, died July 4, 1996 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Dec. 16, 1942 at Columbia City, IN to Elbert and Ruth (Mann) Quinn, both deceased. He married Karen Sexton Jan. 18, 1969 and she survives.
He was employed at Gripco Co., South Whitley for 25 years, and he owned and operated Pizza Jack's from 1982-1990. He was a graduate of Columbia City High School.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Season Quinn, at home; and an aunt, Lois Herron of Columbia City.
Funeral service was held Saturday afternoon, July 6, 1996 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, and burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Ruby E. Kolb
Ruby Evelyn Kolb, 89, of 224 Shady Lane Dr., Wabash, IN, died Saturday, July 11, at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born April 27, 1909 in Huntington County, IN to Frank and Catherine (Forrester) Pinkerton. She married Foster John Kolb in New Castle, IN on Oct. 4, 1938; he died Dec. 12, 1978.
She was a member of the Wabash First Church of God. Ruby was a retired clerical worker for Marion Machine Foundry and for the Wabash County Soil and Water Conservation Service.
Survivors include a daugh-ter, Nancy N. Kolb of Wabash, and a sister, Ina G. Love, of Warren, IN.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 14, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with the Rev. Terry Canfield offici-ating. Burial was in Grant Memorial Park, located at Marion, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the First Church of God Piano Fund.
Laura J. Baker
Laura J. Baker, 87, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, died Saturday, July 11, 1998 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born Aug. 12, 1910 at Huntertown, IN to Christian Sylvester and Daisy Ethel (Sewell) Swears. She married A. Leroy Baker on March 24, 1929 in Wabash County; he died June 16, 1977.
A lifetime Wabash County resident, she was a member of the North Manchester Church of the Nazarene. She worked at Heckman Bindery where she retired in 1975. She and her husband owned Al's Restaurant in Sidney from 1947-1955.
Survivors include three sons - Alfred L. Baker of Cambridge City, IN, Richard D. Baker of North Manchester, and Ronald L. Baker of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. McCleland (Jean) Lockard of New Haven, IN; a sister, Esther Shriver of Wabash; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Three brothers and a son preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held to-day (Wednesday, July 15, 1998) at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel with the Rev. Theron Haynes officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery.

Lucille H. Ussery
Lucile H. Ussery, 97, a resi-dent of Peabody Retirement Community since 1985, died Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. She was born June 7, 1901 at Monticello, IN to George and Cora Lee (Fleenor) Boze. She married Lloyd Ussery on Sept. 1, 1926 and he died Feb. 1, 1964.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of North Manchester and was very active in the women's organization of the church. She was a member of the Mothers of World War II, the 40 & 8 Women's Auxiliary, and the American Legion Women's Auxiliary where she was past president of the lo-cal chapter and past vice presi-dent of the state chapter. She volunteered at the Marion VA Hospital for 11 years. She was a 1918 graduate of Wolf Lake High School.
Survivors include two sons - Lloyd Ussery of Venice, FL and Lionel Ussery of Swayzee, IN; three half sisters - Beaulah Frusorger of Swartz Creek, MI, Laura Jane McDuffee of LaOtto, IN and Lois Isabell Walters of Dunedin, FL; a half brother, Henry Boze of Lafayette, IN; and two grand-children.
Funeral service was held at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel Saturday, July 11, 1998 with Deaconess Sabine Thomas officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Josephine B. Sullivan
Josephine Blanche Sullivan, 90, a resident of Millers Merry Manor West, Wabash, IN, died Monday, July 13, 1998 at Millers Merry Manor West. She was born Aug. 31, 1907 in Wabash County, Indiana to Claude and Blanche (Tomson) Carr. She married Pete Sullivan in Wabash on Sept. 1, 1930, and he died June 4, 1965.
She was a 1925 graduate of Chippewa High School. She became a homemaker, and was a member of the Church of Christ at Treaty.
Survivors include two daughters - Mrs. Glenn (Marlyn) Brown and Mrs. Roy (Sharon) Hinrichsen, both of Wabash; and a son, Jay Sullivan, also of Wabash; 17 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. A daughter, a great grandchild and three brothers preceded her in death.
Friends may call at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Main Street Chapel, Wabash, Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel on Friday, July 17, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Scott Saltsman officiating. Flowers are not discouraged, but for those who wish, a preferred memorial is the Church of Christ at Treaty.
