Billy G. Nordman
Billy G. Nordman, 67, of 507 W. Fifth St., North Manchester, died Tuesday, July 23, 1996 at Marine Healthcare Center, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born July 4,1929 at Elkhart, IN to Herman and Hannah (Ferdinand) Nordman, both de-ceased.
He was former owner of Beech-wood Inn, Columbia City, and East End Lunch of North Manchester.
A member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, North Manch-ester, he was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He was also a member of Mizpah Shrine, Scottish Rite of Fort Wayne, Masonic Lodge and American Le-gion of Columbia city, VFW at South Whitley, Eagles Lodge of Rochester, and Moose Lodge of North Manchester.
He is survived by a son, Jay D. Nordman of Columbia City; daughters Penny Kessie and Bam-bie West, both of Columbia City; brothers Raymond, Merritt, Jack and Jerry Nordman, all of North Manchester, and a sister, Dorothy Nordman of North Manchester, and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Friends may call Wednesday (today)a from 5 to 9 p.m. and Thursday, July 25 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., time of the funeral service at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary. Rev. J. P. Freeman will officiate, and burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to Christian Fellowship Church of North Manchester. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Pauline Heagy
Pauline Heagy, 78, of 609 North West St. Warsaw, IN, died Sunday, July 21, 1996 at her residence. She was born July 22, 1918 in Kosciusko County to John and Amanda (Metzger) Idle, and was a Kosciusko County resident all her life.
A homemaker, she married Robert Heagy and he preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Warsaw, and the American Legion Aux-iliary.
She is survived by sisters Mary Lynch of Warsaw, Ruby Teeter of Rushville, IN and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, 1996 at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel of Warsaw with Rev. Ron Roetman of-ficiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
Robert Eugene Stouffer
Robert (Bob) Eugene Stouffer, 77, of 225 E. Pike St., Roann, died Friday, July 3, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born June 30, 1921 at Urbana, IN to Mahlon and Pauline (Karns) Stouffer. He married Marguerite Harris June 1, 1943 in Urbana.
Mr. Stouffer was the clerk-treasurer for the Town of Roann 23 years. He was also the custodian at Roann Elementary School for 19 years, worked at Honeywell, Inc. in Wabash for 12 years, and was a self-employed car-penter.
He was a member and past commander of the Roann American Legion, and a World War II army veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Marguerite, of Roann; daugh-ters Mrs. Jay (Barbara) Sullivan, Linda Spence, and Mrs. Larry (Jennifer) Faust, all of Wabash; a brother, John Stouffer of Lagro; and sisters Mrs. Wayne (Ruth) Moyer of Roann, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Lehman and Mrs. Larry (Judith) Sellers, both of Wabash, and Mrs. Jerry (Carolyn) Rogers of Urbana; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, two brothers, and two sis-ters.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Lowell Burrus officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association.
John F. Walter
John Frederick Walter, 85, of 37 Pawling St., Wabash, IN died Saturday, July 4, 1998 at Wabash Skilled Care, Wabash, IN. He was born Dec. 2, 1912 at Wabash to Fred B. and Jean (Graden) Walter. He married Helen Cowles in Wabash on June 13, 1936.
He was president of B. Walter & Co., Wabash, retiring in 1974. He was a member and el-der of Wabash Presbyterian Church, member of the Wabash Kiwanis Club, Wabash Elks, and a charter member of the Wabash Country Club. John was also a past Wabash City School Board member, a former direc-tor of the Frances Slocum Bank in Wabash, and had served as a director for the Wabash Cemetery Society Board. John was a 1931 grad-uate of Wabash High School and attended the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. He was a lifetime Wabash resident.
Survivors include his wife, Helen, of Wabash; three sons - Graden Walter and John Stanley Walter, both of Wabash and Stephen B. Walter of Seattle, WA; a daugh-ter, Mrs. Arthur (Posy) Jasen of Wabash; three sisters - Mrs. David (Esther) Watkins of Melbourne, FL, Mrs. O. G. (Jean) Bryant of Sanford, FL, and Mrs. Richard (Ann) Brann of Ogden, UT; 10 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 7, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, Wabash, with Rev. Jeffrey Smith officiating. Private entombment service was held in the Memorial Lawns Cemetery Chapel of Remembrance, located at Wabash.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Animal Shelter, or Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wabash County.
Ronald E. Hopkins
Private graveside services were held Monday, July 6, 1998 for Ronald E. Hopkins, 56, of 2870W 1000N, Roann, IN. He died Wednesday, July 1, 1998 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. He was born Dec. 1, 1941 in Wabash County to John and Mae (Wireman Clever) Hopkins. He married Gloria G. Swygart Sept. 2, 1960 in Covington, KY.
Mr. Hopkins was a diesel mechanic for Pierceton Trucking in Laketon for 25 years. He was a member of the Indiana Conference of Teamsters.
Survivors include his wife, Gloria, of Roann; his mother, Mae Clever of Lakeland, FL; a daughter, Rhonda R. Gheen of North Manchester; a son, Randy E. Hopkins of Roann; two sisters, Mrs. John (Phyllis) Mahlan of Decatur, IN and Mrs. Robert (Sandra) McNary of Cromwell, IN; and four grandchildren.
Pastor J. P. Freeman offici-ated the graveside service held at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel was in charge of ar-rangements. Preferred memo-rials are to the American Heart Association.
Emogene M. Drudge
Emogene Moore Drudge, 71, of 653 High St., Wabash, IN, died Tuesday, June 30, 1998 at Indiana University Medical Center, Indianapolis, IN. She was born May 12, 1937 in Stark County, IN to James Henry and Mary Katherine (Griswald) Moore. She mar-ried Raymond "Ray" Drudge on Oct. 4, 1947, in Roann, IN. She was a member of the Wabash Church of the Nazarene, and a member of A.A.R.P. She was a 1945 gradu-ate of Chippewa High School. She worked for K-Mart for 13 years, retiring in 1988.
Survivors include her hus-band, Ray, of Wabash; two sons, Roland Duane Drudge of Lagro and Larry Eugene Drudge of Huntington; a daughter, Susan Kay Taylor of LaFontaine; a sister, Barbara Ann Evans of Wabash; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, July 3, 1998 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel in Wabash, with the Rev. Kevin Stirratt officiating. Entombment was in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery of Marion, IN.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer Society.
Verling P. Landis
Verling Paul Landis, 87, of 1694 W. Glendale Ave., Apt. 447N, Phoenix, AZ 85021, died Wednesday, July 1, at the Gardener Home Hospice Care of Phoenix. He was born April 13, 1911 in North Manchester to Jesse L. and Josie M. (Almack) Landis. He married Wineferd Baker on March 21, 1937, and she survives.
He had been a member of the North Manchester Church of the Brethren since 1923.
He and Wineferd bought the Burgess Drug Store at the cor-ner of Main and Walnut Streets in May 1938 and it was known as the Landis Drug Store until they sold it to Key Pharmacy in 1963. They worked for Key's until 1976 when they retired.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou Moseke; a son, Michael Landis; six grandsons, all of Phoenix; and a sister Mildred Kimmel of Ozawkie, Kansas. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Kathryn Landis and Ruby Yentes, and two brothers, Galen Landis and Harry Landis.
A private family service will be held Friday, July 10, at Rest Haven Cemetery of Phoenix, AZ. Preferred memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014-5669.
Denzel R. Frieden
Denzel R. Frieden, 85, of 11500 Summit West Blvd., Temple Terrace, FL, formerly of Laketon and North Manchester, IN, died July 4, 1997 at her residence. She was born Oct. 5, 1911 in Wabash County, Indiana, to the late Charles and Nora (Penrod) Ring. She married Edward Frieden Nov. 23, 1932 and he died Jan. 3, 1993.
She was a retired registered nurse, having graduated from Indiana University School of Nursing in 1932, where she was a member of Nursing Honorary Sigma Theta Tau. She was a 1929 graduate of Laketon High School. She was a member of Laketon Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include two daughters - Anne Elizabeth Hakes of Anderson, IN and Dorothy Frieden of Tampa, FL; six grandchildren - Noelle Guckien of Zionsville, IN, Meridith Hakes of Fishers, IN, Joel Hakes of Anderson, Kris Frieden of Indianapolis and Sarah Jefferson and Drew Jefferson, both of Temple Terrace, FL and two great-grandchildren - Zoe Guckien of Zionsville, IN and Olivia Frieden of Indianapolis, IN. A brother, Guilford Ring survives at Port Charlotte, FL. A son preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 19, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the graveside at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, North Manchester, with Rev. James Robbins officiating. Preferred memorials may be given to Wabash County Cancer Society in memory of Nolan Frieden. Arrangements are by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary.
Lucille H. Olcott
Lucille Heeter Olcott, 89, died Sunday, June 29, 1997 in St. Paul's Health Care Center in South Bend. She was born May 25, 1908 to the late Charles and Mildred Ruppel in North Manchester.
She is survived by two sons - Tom J. Heeter of Elkhart and Max Heeter of Rowland, CA; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Heeter in 1990 and five brothers, namely North Manchester residents Glenn, Joe, and Charlie Ruppel and infant brother Paul, as well as Illinois resident, Harold Ruppel.
On November 29, 1928, as Lucille M. Ruppel, she married Harlan Heeter in North Manchester; he passed away in 1952. She then wed Harold Olcott in Mishawaka in 1977; he passed away in 1990. Lucille retired from Uniroyal Corporation in 1978 after 25 years of service.
She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Mishawaka, and the Eastern Star Chapter 598 of Osceola.
The Osceola Eastern Star conducted a memorial service Tuesday evening in the Bubb Funeral Chapel North. Funeral service was held Wednesday, July 2, in the Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Don Carpenter officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park Cemetery of Granger.

Della M. Stover
Della M. Stover, 91, of Laketon, IN, died Thursday, July 3, 1997, at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash. She was born Sept. 29, 1905 at Greensburg, KY to the late Mose and Elvira (Wilson) Wright. She first married Burble H. Simpson October 1930 and he died June 29, 1976. Her second marriage was to Robert Stover in September 1977, and he survives. She attended Laketon Wesleyan Church.
A homemaker, she is survived by her husband, Robert; a son Welby Simpson of Glen Rose, TX; and a stepson, Ronald Stover of Wausau, WI daughters Geneva Hively of Roann; Madene Simpson of North Manchester; Mrs. Dave (Georgia) Ervin of Wabash; Mrs. Richard (Phyllis) Vanderpool of Columbus, OH; a stepdaughter, Mrs. James (Lois) Phillips of Phoenix, AZ; a brother, Fred Wright of Kentucky; nine grandchildren and five step grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one step great-grandchild. A great-great grandchild is deceased, as are two brothers.
Funeral service was held Sunday, July 6, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary with the Rev. James D. Walker officiating. Burial was in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.
William J. "Jeff" Drawbridge
William J. "Jeff" Drawbridge, 54, of 1704 Hillcrest Drive, North Manchester, died at his residence Tuesday, July 1, 1997. He was born Sept. 5, 1942 at Worcester, MA to the late William Drawbridge and Margaret Drawbridge of Holden, MA.
Mr. Drawbridge was formerly of Pueblo, CO., and moved to North Manchester in 1992. He married Barbara J. Pace Oct. 28, 1988. He was an engineer by trade. He was a U.S. Army veteran, and a member of the North Manchester Moose Lodge #1518 and Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara; a daughter, Mrs. Mike (Susan) Wormell of Thornton, CO; a brother, Bruce Drawbridge of North Anover, MA; a sister, Mrs. Bill (Nancy) Muszynski of Worcester, MA; and six grandchildren.
Graveside services were held in Holden, MA at the Grove Cemetery Thursday, July 3, 1997. Preferred memorials may be given to the Wabash County Cancer Society. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
Esther A. Miller
Esther Alfreda Miller, 81, of Rolling Meadows Healthcare of LaFontaine, IN, died at the Healthcare Center Thursday, July 3, 1997. She was born Sept. 18, 1915 at Marion, OH to Fred and Bethel (Snare) Spencer. She was raised in Ohio by her stepfather Joe Spano and her mother Bethel Spano. She was first married to Harold A. Bragg on Oct. 13, 1934 and he is deceased. Her second marriage was to Roy Miller in North Manchester, IN on Aug. 2, 1986 and he died March 4, 1990.
She was a homemaker and a waitress, and attended the Wabash Christian Missionary Alliance Church. Formerly of 1308 Creekside Dr., Wabash, IN, she had lived in Wabash County the past 20 years. Prior to moving to Indiana, she had lived in the Columbus, OH and Coshocton, OH areas for many years.
Survivors include two daughters - Mrs. Allen (Shirley) Farley of Coschocton, OH and Mrs. David (Charlotte) Gross of Wabash, IN; four sons - Glenn Bragg of Marengo, OH, Harold Allen Bragg of Orient, OH, Virgil Bragg of Atwater, OH, Grant Bragg of Coschocton, OH; two sisters - Mrs. LeRoy (Hazel) Lehman of Bonnie Lake, WA and Mrs. Ross (Anna Mae) Shoup of Marion, OH; 33 grandchildren, 68 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, July 8, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel, Wabash, with Dr. James Walker officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.
