Cheryl Jean Blanchard-Jackson
Cheryl Jean Blanchard-Jackson, 46, of 7316 West SR 114 in Whitley County, died Wednesday, August 20, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born Nov. 26, 1950 to Robert R. and Helen M. (Geiger) Blanchard. She was married to Michael Evan Jackson in North Manchester, IN on March 17, 1974; Mr. Jackson survives.
Mrs. Jackson lived in Churubusco until the completion of the first grade of school when she moved to Larwill, IN and lived there until 1957. She then moved to North Manchester and lived there for 30 years. She and her family moved to her Cleveland Township home on SR 114 in 1987.
Mrs. Jackson had taught fifth grade in 1973 and has taught first and second grade rotation from 1974 until present at the South Whitley Elementary School. She was a 1968 graduate of Larwill High School and earned her teaching degree from Manchester College, North Manchester and her Master's Degree from Indiana University. She was a member of the South Whitley United Methodist Church and the Friendship Sunday School Class. She was a member of the Indiana Reading Association.
Survivors include her husband, Michael; three sons - Christopher R., Jeremy Kyle, and Nathan A., all of South Whitley; her parents Robert R. and Helen M. Blanchard of North Manchester; her in-laws, Dale E. and Janet L. Jackson of Lafayette, IN; a sister, Cindy J. Anglin of Claypool, IN; her grandmother, Irene A. Geiger of Columbia City, IN; and nieces Stephanie Dawn and Amanda Leigh Anglin, both of Claypool, IN.
Funeral service was held Sunday, August 24, 1997 at the South Whitley Elementary Gymnasium with the Rev. August W. Lundquist officiating.
DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home of Columbia City, was in charge of arrangements, and burial was in South Whitley Cemetery. Preferred memorial bequests may be given in Mrs. Jackson;'s memory to the Jackson Son's College Fund at First Federal Bank (former NBD,) South Whitley, or to the Whitley County Senior Citizen Center.
Betty Allen
Betty Allen, 75, of rural Warsaw, IN, died Wednesday, Aug. 20, 1997 at Mason Healthcare Center, Warsaw, IN. She was born Sept. 10, 1921 in Salyersville, KY to Bass and Dollie (Allen) Howard, both deceased.
A homemaker, she was married to Edd Allen on July 10, 1941, and he survives, along with a son, Robert Allen of Pierceton, IN; daughters, Mrs. Ken (Belva) Shepherd and Mrs. Carl (Avadean) Morrison, both of Claypool, IN; three brothers - Rosco and Lonzo, both of Pierceton and Monroe of Printer, KY; a sister, Arizona Mullins of Pierceton; seven grandchildren and two step grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and nine step great-grandchildren. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997 at the Packerton Free United Baptist Church of which she was a member. The Rev. James Rowe and Rev. Willie Collins officiated. She was buried in Hillcrest Cemetery, Pierceton, IN.

Austin J. Aughinbaugh
Austin J. Aughinbaugh, 70, of Lake Arthur Estates, Remington, IN and a former resident of the North Manchester area, died Thursday, Sept. 12, at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer, IN. He was born May 13, 1926 in Wabash County to Franklin and Frieda (Sailors) Augh-inbaugh, both deceased. He had lived in Remington since 1989; he had lived in Rensselaer from 1982 thru 1988, coming from North Manchester.
He married Phyllis E. Maddock Nov. 24, 1960 at Fort Wayne, IN and she survives. Educated at South Whitley schools, he was a north Indiana distributor for "Little Debbie Pastries" for more than 30 years.
A veteran of U.S. Army during World War II, he was a member of the Fellowship of Living Hope in Rensselaer.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons - Jerry (wife Cindy) of Converse, Randy of Peru, Mark (wife Vickie) of North Jud-son, and Jeff (wife Margi) of Elkhart; two daughters, Mrs. Morris (Sharon) Garland of Andrews and Mrs. Dwayne (Nora) Hopper of Remington; 13 grandchildren and five great grandchildren; a brother J.D. Aughinbaugh of North Manch-ester. He was preceded in death a his parents and a daughter.
Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 16, 1996 at the Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer, with Pastor Edwin M. Bontreger officiating. Burial was in Eel River Cemetery, North Manchester.
David Lee Norris
David Lee Norris, 31, of 5601 S. Washington Road, Columbia City, IN, died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996 at his residence in Whitley County. He was born Nov. 10, 1964 in Hunting-ton, IN to Brent L. and Elnora (Schenkel) Norris.
Mr. Norris spent his early childhood years in Andrews, IN and moved to Columbia city with his parents in 1976. He was a 1983 graduate of Columbia City High School, and attended The Graham Cattle School in Garnet, KS in 1985. He has served as a medical machin-ist for Biomet, Inc., Warsaw, IN since 1990. He was also a general farmer and raised cattle.
Mr. Norris was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Andrews, IN. He was a past member of Young Farmer of America, and has been involved in 4-H program during his entire lifetime, having shown cattle and rabbits for several years and was a 1984 Round Robin Award Winner; he has won five awards at National Championships.
He married Brenda Kay Minnix April 2, 1991 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She survives at their Columbia City residence, along with his parents of Columbia City, a daughter, Abbie Marie and a stepson, Clinton R. Ousley, both of Columbia city; a stepdaughter, Mrs. John (Christina) Conley of South Bend and a step grandchild, Erin Conley, also of South Bend. A brother, Kevin Norris of North Manchester and his grandmother, Anna Norris of White Pigeon, MI also survives. He was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Norris, 2 1/2.
Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 16, 1996 at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Funeral Home of Columbia City with the Rev. Tom A. Curry of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to the Whitley County Hospice, or the American Cancer Society of Whitley County.
Lois R. C. Smith
Lois Ruth Catherine Smith, 68, of 562 N. Cass St., Wabash, IN died at Wabash County Hospital Sunday, Sept. 15, 1996. She was born Dec. 17, 1927 at Jasper County, IN to Ernest O. and Gladys (Smith) Rees, both deceased.
She married W. Arthur Smith Sept. 18, 1949 in Wabash County. She was an insurance records clerk for Dr. Robert LaSalle & Family Physicians in Wabash, and later worked as a secretary with Marvin Horine, Attorney. She was a mem-ber of Wabash Christ United Methodist Church, sang in the church choir for many years and was a member of the Lydia Circle and taught Sunday School.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by sons Stanley A. Smith of Lacon, IL and Ronald O. Smith of Bunnell, FL; a daughter, Constance Ann Suddarth of Wabash; brothers Oscar W. Rees of Sioux city, IA and Charles Rees of Mt. Etna, IN; sis-ters Mrs. Merle (Margaret) Kessler of Wabash, Mrs. Ralph (Pearl Maxine) Miller of Colorado Springs, CO, Mrs. Donald (Hazel) Huffman of Peru, IN and Mrs. Charlotte Morrell of Syracuse, IN; eight grandchildren and five step grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Wednesday, Sept. 18 at Christ United Methodist Church of Wabash with Rev. Donald Crabill officiating.. Burial was in Hopewell Cemetery, Lagro. Arrangements were by Manchester Ave. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen.
Glen W. Floyd
Glen W. Floyd, 73, of 240 Agua Vista Ave., Debary, FL 32713, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 1996 at Volusia Medical Center, Orange County, FL. He was born May 18, 1923 at Peru, IN to Ross Emery and Mary Marie (Ward) Floyd. He had lived in Florida since 1970, coming from Peru, IN.
He was married to Clara K. Slown, and was retired in 1985 as a Master Carpenter. He was a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Debary Christian Church, and the Experimental Aircraft Association of Debary.
Survivors include his wife, Clara; two sisters, Mrs. Charles (Marcella) Latta of Peru, IN and Mrs. Gerald (Barbara Ann) DePoy of Rochester, IN; and nieces and nephews.
Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 16 at Foster & Good Funeral Home of Akron with the Rev. Robert Story officiating. Burial was in Akron Cemetery, Akron, IN.
Courtney L. Floyd
Miss Courtney Lynn Floyd, 20, of Box 166, Macy IN, (106 South E. Lakeshore Drive, Nyona Lake), died Friday, Sept. 13, 1996 at Wood-lawn Hospital Emergency Room following multiple internal injuries sustained in an automobile/tractor-trailer accident at US 31 Bypass and Business 31S, Rochester, IN earlier that morning.
She was born Dec. 22, 1975 at Rochester to David A. and Kathy A. (Stahl) Floyd and lived her entire life in the Macy and Nyona Lake areas.
Miss Floyd was employed at The Rochester Sentinel newspaper in the graphic arts department. She was a 1994 graduate of North Miami High School and also a 1995 graduate of International Business College, Ft. Wayne, with an associ-ate degree in Graphic Arts.
She is survived by her parents; a brother, David of Macy; maternal grandparents, Richard and Dorothy Stahl of Macy and paternal grand-mother, Chloe Floyd of Rochester, as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services was held Monday, Sept. 16, 1996 at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Rochester, with the Rev. David Welsh officiat-ing. Burial was in Plainview Ceme-tery of Macy.
Junior D. Bright
Junior D. Bright, 72, of So. Park Road, Rochester, died at his residence Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1996 following a three-month illness. He was born April 3, 1924 at Akron, IN to Albert and Nellie Bright. He lived most of his life in Wabash and Ful-ton Counties.
He married Martha Rouch Nov. 10, 1947 and she preceded him in death June 19, 1995.
A retired employee of Miller & Sons Lumber Co. of Silver Lake, he was a member of the North Manchester VFW Post, having served in the European Theater during World War II with the U.S. Army.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Benny (Chris) Bryant of North Manchester, and Mrs. Bo (Cathy) Milam of Paris, TX; a son, Michael D. Bright of Rochester; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Betty Stoner of Delphi, and a brother, Kenny Bright of Akron. Three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
The Zimmerman Family Funeral Home of Rochester is in charge of arrangements. Private interment will be held at a later date in the Nichols Cemetery near Akron.
Harold H. Scott
Harold H. Scott, 82, of 305 E. South Street, North Manchester, IN, died Monday, Sept. 16, 1996 at his residence. He was born Dec. 10, 1913 to John O. and Eliza (Agnew) Scott, both deceased, at Ora, Indi-ana. He married Maxine L. Strevy Aug. 18, 1940 and she survives.
Mr. Scott was a former Pulaski County (IN) Highway Superintendent, former Postmaster at Monterey (IN) Post Office, and former owner of Scott's Grocery at Ora. He held a private pilot's license and founded the Ora Airport. He was a retired millwright at Plymouth Tube Co., Winamac, IN; he was a 32nd degree Mason at the Winamac Masonic Lodge, and a member of the South Bend Scottish Rite. He was first Commander and founding member of the American Legion Post #399 at Ora, IN. In 1956 he served as a delegate to the Republi-can Convention. He was a WWII U.S. Marine veteran, and was a member of the Monterey United Methodist Church, Monterey, IN.
Survivors include his wife; sons Richard L. of Grandhaven, MI., Harold H. Jr. of Lithonia, GR, and Robert L. of Clermont, FL; daughters Kate A. Scott of Greenbelt, MD, Dr. Barry (Rebecca) Sussman of Boca Raton, FL and Mrs. James (Sharon L.) Tisoto of St. Louis, MS; a sister, Mrs. Wanetta May of Brookville, FL; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Friends may call Thursday, Sept. 19, from 2 to 5 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary. Masonic service will be held Thursday evening, 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Friday, Sept. 20, 11 a.m. at the North Manchester United Methodist Church with the Rev. J.P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Andrews, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash-Miami Home Healthcare or Wabash County Hospital Oncol-ogy. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Mary A. Statzer
Mary A. Statzer, 82, of rural Wabash, died at 9:10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash.
Arrangements are pending at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, at North Manchester.
Ruth Brumbaugh
Ruth Sherrick Brumbaugh, 103, a resident of Mease Continuing Care Center, Dunedin, FL, and formerly of North Manchester, died at the Mease Center Tuesday, Aug. 6, 1996. She was born July 21, 1893 at Lanark, IL to Marvin M. and Minnie (Buck) Sherrick. She married John Aaron Brumbaugh, who died in 1983.
Mrs. Brumbaugh was an English Professor at American University, Washington, D.C. She is survived by a daughter, Dorothy June Breckshot of Dunedin, FL, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Unitar-ian Church of Dunedin, FL. Private burial service was held at Oaklawn Cemetery with DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary in charge of arrange-ments.
Earl W. Harvey
Earl W. Harvey, 77, of Laketon, IN died Monday, Aug. 19, 1996 at The Oaks of Columbia City, IN. He was born in Rochester, IN Dec. 20, 1918 and was raised by Arthur DeLauter, deceased and Orrill Day, also deceased. He married L. Max-ine Betten Dec. 11, 1947 and she survives.
Mr. Harvey had worked at Laketon Elevator, Honeywell Inc., and was retired from Peabody Retirement Community.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in World War II for which he received two bronze stars. He was a member of the Laketon American Legion Post #402, gradu-ated from Laketon High School in 1939 and attended Manchester College. He was a member of the Laketon United Methodist Church.
In addition to his wife, Maxine, survivors include daughters Mrs. Carolyn Hoffman, Mrs. Tom (Linda) Hippensteel and Mrs. Brian (Di-anna) Baker, all of North Manch-ester, Mrs. Larry (Jean) Hall of Roann, Mrs. Stuart (Donna) Lampert of Bronx, N.Y., and Mrs. Roy (Debbie) Ho of Queens, N.Y.; a brother, Frank Harvey, Indiana, and a sister, Anneane McClurg of Wabash; 15 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
Friends may call Thursday, Aug. 22 from 2 to 4 and from 6 to 8 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary. Funeral service will be held at De-Laughter-McKee Mortuary Friday, Aug. 23, 1996 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Glenn Howenstine officiating. Burial will be in Laketon Cemetery, Laketon, IN.
