Marilyn Landis
Marilyn Landis, 77, of 700 Centennial St., Lot 621, Wabash, IN died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital. She was born June 4, 1920 at Sharpsville, IN to Harry and Pearl (Stearns) Warner.
She married Herman E. Landis in Kokomo, IN on March 27, 1947. She was a member of the Wabash Calvary Baptist Church, Wabash Business & Professional Womens Club, Wabash Womens Clubhouse Assn., and Wabash County Hospital Ladies Auxiliary. She was a Registered Nurse at the Wabash County Hospital, retiring in 1982. She lived in Wabash since 1950, coming from Sharpsville, IN.
Survivors include her husband, Herman, of Wabash; a sister, Marjorie Schwallie of Milwaukee, WI; a brother, Leon Warner of Tipton, IN.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Sept. 16, at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, Wabash, with Pastor James Stevanus officiating. Burial was in Sharpsville Cemetery, Sharpsville, IN.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Hospital Foundation. Main Street Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen was in charge of arrangements.
Nancy Lynn Ford
Nancy Lynn Ford, 42, died Sept. 14, 1997 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne, IN. She was born Sept. 9, 1955 at Wabash to Harold Ford and Mary Lou (Baer) DeWitt. A lifetime resident of Wabash County, she was a member of the Wabash Zion Lutheran Church.
Survivors include her mother Mary Lou DeWitt of Rochester, her father Harold Ford of Roann; brother, Daniel F. Ford of Wabash; a sister Claudia S. Draper of Laotto, IN; step father Dan DeWitt of Rochester; grandmother Vera Baer of Wabash; a nephew, Gary Treska II of Lagro; a niece Megan Ford of Wabash; three step brothers and four step sisters.
Funeral was held today (Wednesday) at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel with the Rev. Manfred W. Fremder and Tony Thomas officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery of Wabash.
Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to C.A.P.D. Unit at the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Dorothy E. Orpurt
Dorothy E. Orpurt, 76, a resident of 106 Lawrence Ave., Peru, IN, died at Millers Merry Manor N/H Sept. 9, 1997. She was a homemaker, born Sept. 6, 1921 in Cass County to Charles M. and Ada Marie (Clingenpeel) Pottenger, both deceased.
She married Kenneth L. Orpurt Nov. 8, 1947, and he survives, along with a son, Kevin Orpurt of Terre Haute, IN; brothers Dale "Hooker" Pottenger of Nyona Lake, IN; Marvin Pottenger of Denver, IN; and Paul Edward Pottenger of Rochester; sisters Margaret Blackburn of New Waverly, IN and Ethel Hyjak of Vermont; a grandchild Christine Orpurt, at home.
Funeral service was held at Flowers-Leedy Funeral Home Friday, Sept. 12, with Rev. Ron Kerr officiating. Burial was in Greenlawn Cemetery of Mexico, IN.
Mrs. Zella Collier Easley
Mrs. Zella Collier Easley, 86, died Tuesday, Sept. 16, 1997 at Peabody Retirement Commu-nity, North Manchester, following an ill-ness. She formerly resided with her daughter and son-in-law, Herbert and Brenda McKin-ney Manuwal of 2315 Huddleston Dr., Rochester, IN.
Funeral arrangements are pending at Foster & Good Funeral Home, Inc., of Rochester.
Goldie Baker
WAPAKONETA, OH--Goldie M. Baker, 92, of Wapakoneta, formerly of North Manchester, IN, died Fri-day, Aug. 9, 1996 at Wapakoneta Manor. She was born Aug. 25, 1903 in Thornhope, IN, the daughter of James and Wilhemina (Koake) Hat-field. On Nov. 30, 1935, she married Orville Baker, and he died Aug. 1,1967.
A homemaker, Mrs. Baker and her husband had owned and oper-ated the former Goldie's Antiques, North Manchester. She was a member of the Women of the Moose, Chapter #866, North Manchester.
She is survived by two nephews, Robert Davison of Wapakoneta and Lowell (Bud" Reed of Warsaw; a niece, Mrs. Albert (Roberta) Kessler of Bellefontaine, OH; 17 great nieces and nephews and nu-merous great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carl and Forrest Hatfield, and two sisters, Lena Reed and Ruth Knoch.
Graveside services were held Monday, Aug. 12, 1996 at Fairview Cemetery, North Manchester. Ar-rangements were by Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home of Wapakoneta.
David L. Bratten II
David L. Bratten II, 37, of Silver Lake, died Saturday morning, August 10, 1996 in a one-car accident in Kosciusko County. Mr. Bratten was born July 5, 1959, a son of David L. and Dianne (Wallace) Bratten of Muncie, IN. He had lived the last year in Silver Lake, moving there from North Manchester. He worked as a locator for Joint Un-derground Locating Service in New Haven. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Warsaw.
Surviving are his fiancee, Janice Castle of Silver Lake; three daughters, Heidi Bratten of Burket, Cayla and Nicole Bratten, both of War-saw; a son, Austin of Silver Lake; two brothers, Chris of Albion and Ron of Kendallville; a sister, Robin Brown of Syracuse; two step broth-ers, Tom Papenbrock of Chu-rubusco and Jon Hemming of Grand Rapids, MI; his parents, David L. of Kendallville and Mrs. Tom (Dianne) Papenbrock of Churubusco. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tony Bratten.
Services were held Tuesday at the Sheets Funeral Home in Churubusco, with Rev. B. Vaughn Pow-ell officiating. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Eel River Township, Allen County. Memorials may be given to the Bratten Children Education Fund.
Dale K. Walter
Dale Kendal Walter, 57, of 2205 John Glenn Rd., Dayton, OH, died Friday, August 9, 1996 at V.A. Med-ical Center of Dayton, OH. He was born Oct. 7, 1938 at North Manch-ester, IN to the late Victor V. and Ruth E. (Tschantz) Walter, a resi-dent of North Manchester.
He married Fujiyo Walter Aug. 26, 1970 in Omaha, Nebraska. He graduated from Chester High School in North Manchester in 1957. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1989 as a Senior Master Sargent, after 28 years service. He had lived in Dayton for the past six years, and was a Viet Nam Veteran.
Survivors include his wife Fujiyo of Dayton, OH; his mother, Ruth Walter of North Manchester; a brother, Donald Walter of Westborough, MA; sisters Kay Capistrano of Los Angeles, CA, Cathy Gilbert of North Manchester, and Sharon Martin of Fort Wayne.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, August 13, 1996 at Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service with the Rev. William Hemmig officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, North Manchester.

Virdie T. Lemna
Mrs. Virdie T. Lemna, 93, a resident of Miller's Merry Manor, Wakarusa for nine years, and formerly of Nappanee, died Saturday, Aug. 10,1996 at Miller's Merry Manor. She had been in ill health for 15 years.
Mrs. Lemna was born January 21, 1903 at Nappanee to Elie E. and Matilda (Weiss) Frevert, and lived her entire lifetime in the Nappanee area. She married Frank C. Lemna Nov. 26, 1925 at Nappanee, and he preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1978.
She was a housewife and bookkeeper for Coppes Kitchen of Nappanee, having graduated from Nap-panee High School.
She was a member of the Nappa-nee United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women's Club, Helping Hands Club of Nappanee, Nappanee Order of the Eastern Star, and Nappanee Order of the Eastern Star Past Matrons Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ross (Lois) Cook and Mrs. Dennis (Janet) Templeton, both of Nappanee; two sons, Owen Lemna of Muncie and Rev. Carl Lemna of North Manchester; a sister, Mrs. Margaret Bumb of Muncie; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Alice Mae Lemna and a grandson, Kris Lemna; sisters Edith Ruch and Cleta Thompson, and brothers John and Ray Frevert.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1996 at the Nappanee United Methodist Church with Rev. Janet McFall-Brown officiating. Burial was in Bremen Cemetery, Bremen, IN. Preferred memorials are to the Nappanee United Methodist Church.
Lawrence Frieden
Lawrence (Pete) Frieden, 80, of rural North Manchester, died Saturday, Aug. 3, 1996 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash, IN. He was born at Lagro, IN to John H. and Kathryn (Kramer) Frieden, both deceased.
He married Jean Smith Nov. 27, 1959 and was engaged in farming. He was a member of the Servia United Church of Christ, Servia; the Board of Directors Farm Credit Services for 33 years, formerly Production Credit Association of Peru; the Moose Lodge of Rochester, and Eagles Lodge of Logansport.
He is survived by his wife, a daughter Paula Jean Wertenberger of Union, MI, a sister Grace Bouse of Silver Lake, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by seven brothers.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Aug. 6th at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary with the Rev. Golda McClelland officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Hospital ICCU Unit or Wabash County Heart Association.
Ellen B. Watson
Ellen Beth Watson, 82, of PO Box 25, Lagro, IN, died Friday, Sept. 20, 1996 at Community Care Center, Wabash, IN. She was born Aug. 5, 1914 in Marion, IN to Guy and Eliz-abeth Ann (Figgins) Rich.
She married Joseph Emerson Watson Feb. 21, 1933; he died in September of 1975. A member of the Lagro United Methodist Church, Hopewell Circle, and a 50-year member of Wabash Order of the Eastern Star, she owned a dairy farm in Lagro.
Only nieces and nephews survive. A brother and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 23, 1996 at the Main St. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service of Wabash, Rev. Gregory Stevens officiating, and entombment was in the Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion.
Lena M. Rhamy
Lena M. Rhamy, 98, of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Sunday, Sept. 22, 1996 at Peabody Healthcare. She was born Nov. 4, 1897 at Mulberry, IN to Charles E. and Ella M. (Darland) Rothenberger. Before moving to Peabody Retirement Community in 1991, she was a resident of 78 W. Hill St., Wabash for 61 years.
She married Dr. Lester B. Rhamy April 22, 1922 in Lafayette, IN; he died Nov. 19, 1935. She attended Indiana University and Lafayette Business Colleges.
She was bookkeeper/secretary for the Wabash Presbyterian Church for 25 years. She was a member of the Wabash Presbyterian Church, the Presbyterian Women's Association, the Altruist Class of the church, the Symposium Literary Club, Tri Kappa Sorority, the Wabash Women's Clubhouse Association, and the Wabash Crippled Children's Society.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Robert K. Rhamy of Miami Lake, FL, and a daughter Mrs. Tom (Ruth) Lyman of Dallas, TX; also four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, Sept. 26, 1996 at 2 p.m. at the Main St. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service of Wabash, with Revs. Jeffrey Smith and Jack Miller officiating. Burial will be in Fall Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to Peabody Retirement Community.
Donald E. Martin
Donald E. Martin, 69, of 263 Washington St., Wabash, IN, died Friday, Sept. 20, 1996 at his residence. He was born Oct. 18, 1926 at Wabash to Wayne and Ophia (Elzroth) Martin.
He was an engineer with Magnavox of Fort Wayne for 23 years; prior to that he worked for Honeywell in Wabash for 12 years. He resided in Ft. Wayne from 1968 to 1995, coming from Wabash. He was a 1944 graduate of Wabash High School and attended Purdue University for a year in the ROTC program before serving in the Army. He was a World War II Army veteran.
Survivors include his mother, Ophia Martin of Wabash; four sons - Dan and Ed Martin of Greentown, IN and Kim and Keith Martin of Wabash; three daughters - Brenda Horner of Greentown, IN, Kelly Hannan of Wabash, and Kristi Lengacher of Grabill, IN; brothers, Raymond Martin of Wabash and James Martin of Kalamazoo, MI; 13 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One sister preceded him in death.
Funeral services was held Wednesday, Sept. 25 at Main St. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash, with Rev. John Kreps officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to the John Purdue Club.
Mary A. Statzer
Mary A. Statzer, 82, of 1958S 200E, Wabash, IN died September 17, 1996 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash. She was born Dec. 20, 1913 at Dungan, VA to Benja-men and Virginia (Brannen) Collins, both deceased. She married James W. Statzer in March, 1934 and he preceded her in death May 4, 1973.
A homemaker, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Worley (Shirley) Coots of rural Wabash; five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Two sons, a daughter, six brothers, and three sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, Sept. 21, 1996 at the Frank Creek Freewill Baptist Church, of which she was a member at Eolia, KY. The Rev. Verdell Sturgill officiated and burial was in J. D. Maggard Cemetery, Eolia, KY.
