Ethel Gross
Ethel Gross, 88, a former Columbia City area resident, died Friday morning, October 4,1996 in her home at Bonita Springs, FL. She was born Oct. 27, 1907 in Wabash County, a daughter of Wal-ter and Inez (Brookins) Bussard. Her formative years were spent in the North Manchester and Sidney communities and she graduated from Sidney High School.
She married Howard Allen Gross Nov. 24, 1926, and they made their home in several communities: Grand Rapids and Jackson, MI, Col-lamer and Columbia City, IN. They resided in Florida since October, 1984. Mr. Gross died January 14, 1988.
Mrs. Gross had been employed in several places, including Fort Wayne Tailoring Company, the Blue Bell, and Schultz Brothers Store in Columbia city, Meijer Company in Grand Rapids.
She was a 50-year member of the Columbia City Chapter #65 Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son, Paul Gross of Naples, FL; two daughters, Mrs. Donald (Madeline) Ferrell of Bonita Springs, FL and Mrs. Jack (Deloris) Lefever of Columbia City; a daughter-in-law, Joyce Gross of Bonita Springs; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty O'Hara of LaGrange. A son, Eddie, and a sister, Mildred VanCleave preceded her in death.
Funeral services was held Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996 at the Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with the Rev. Gene L. Kinney, pas-tor of Grace Lutheran Church, offi-ciating. Burial was in Union Town-ship Cemetery at Coesse. The Columbia City Order of Eastern Star conducted a twilight service, 8:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to be made to the American Heart Fund.
Benny C. Cone
Infant Benny Charles Cone was stillborn Saturday, Oct. 5, 1996 at Dukes Memorial Hospital, Peru. His parents are Keith A. of Roann, IN and Amanda F. (Ward) Cone of 704 N. Wayne St., North Manch-ester.
Survivors, in addition to his par-ents, include a half brother, Dakota J. Hackworth of Wabash; maternal grandparents Benny and Monica Ward of North Manchester; pater-nal grandparents Sam Charles and Barbara Cone of Roann; maternal great grandmother Elsie Fay Ward of Wabash; maternal great grand-parents Jack and Ruth Sizemore of Swayzee and Robert and Doris Stambaugh of Huntington; paternal great grandparents Jim and Mintie Kerr of Wabash and Lucy and Carl Sundheimer of Urbana; paternal great great grandmother Mary Porter of Wabash and Maternal great great grandmother Alma Webb of Paintsville, KY. Maternal great grandfather, Rev. Henry Ward, preceded him in death.
Graveside service was held at the Friends Cemetery, Wabash, IN Tuesday, Oct. 8, 1996 with the Rev. Venny VanHoose officiating. Manchester Ave. Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service was in charge of arrangements.
Wilma G. Niccum
Wilma G. Niccum, 87, of 1334 S. Helms Dr., Wabash, IN, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997 at Millers Merry Manor-East, Wabash. She was born Dec. 28, 1909 at Bedford, IN to Charles and Bertha (Thomas) Gresham. She married Kenneth D. Niccum March 31, 1927 in Wabash County. Mrs. Niccum was a member of the Roann Christian Church.
At age one, she was adopted and raised by Albert and Sarah Elizabeth (Fosnough) Scott. She worked in the produce department at Clark's Finer Foods in Wabash, and as a sales clerk at Oppenheim's Department Store in North Manchester. She was a homemaker for 70 years.
Survivors include her husband Kenneth of Wabash; daughters Charlene Roberts of Wabash and Marca Snook of Olathe, KA; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, three grandchildren, a great-grandchild, five brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel, Wabash today (Tuesday) from 2 to 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 26, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Lee Kantenwein officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to Wabash-Miami County Home Healthcare and Hospice. Arrangements were by Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel.
Perma M. Hammons
Perma M. Hammons, 88, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester, IN, died Friday, Nov. 21, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. Corcilius) Widman. She married Hubert Hammons in Central City, Nebraska on March 31, 1929 and he died Feb. 11, 1990.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Center United Methodist Church of Silver Lake, IN. She had lived at Peabody since 1995, coming from Rt. 2, Silver Lake, IN.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Jack (Marilyn) McDonald of Silver Lake; a sister, Mrs. Evvard (Frances) Chader of Central City, NE; three grandsons and five great grandchildren. Six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral services were held today (Tuesday), Nov. 25, 1997 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel, North Manchester, with the Rev. Michael Kelly officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, N. Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to Center United Methodist Church. Arrangements were by Bender Chapel Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral.
Lola L. Vice
Lola Loretta Vice, 90, of 11 Ulen Dr., Wabash, IN died Monday, Nov. 24, 1997 at Millers Merry Manor East, Wabash. She was born Apr. 29, 1907 at Somerset, IN to Charles S. and Myrtle (Weimer) Slusser. She married James W. Vice in Wabash Feb. 19, 1927 and he died March 19, 1994.
She was a member of the Wabash Woman's Clubhouse Association and Wabash Chapter Indiana Symphony Society. She was a 1925 graduate of LaFontaine High School. She was active in Indiana State Democratic Party for years.
She is survived by a son, James W. Vice of Chicago, IL; daughters Jean Washam of Hollywood, CA and Joan Haag of Wabash, IN; a brother Jack Slusser of Resedo, CA and a sister Helen Thompson of LaFontaine, IN; also a grandchild and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a grandson, a sister, a brother and her husband.
Friends may call Wednesday, Nov. 26 from 2 to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main Street Chapel, 86 E. Main St., Wabash. Funeral will be held Friday, Nov. 28, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Main St. Chapel. Burial will take place in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.
Preferred memorials are W. Scott Wakefield Scholarship Fund or Wabash County Hospital Oncology Department.
Wilma G. Niccum
Services for Wilma G. Niccum, 87, 1334 S. Helms Drive, Wabash, were Wednesday morning at the Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Avenue Chapel.
Dr. Lee Kantenwein officiated. Organist was Phyllis Kantenwein. Stephen Lewis and Mrs. Kantenwein were the vocalists. Brad Roberts was the reader. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Robin Roberts, Brad Roberts, Cory Roberts, Tim Roberts, Sam Unger, Craig Charlton, Stephen Lewis and Michael Niccum. Jennifer Roberts and Mikila Niccum were honorary pallbearers.
Elizabeth L. Seaberg
Elizabeth Lou "Webb" Seaberg, 47, Silver Lake, died at Kosciusko Community Hospital Thursday, Nov. 27, 1997.
She was born Aug. 16, 1950 in Fresno, Calif. to Granville and Marie Faye Webb. They preceded her in death. She married Thomas George Seaberg Sr., Silver Lake on Feb. 11, 1970 and he survives.
Mrs. Seaberg was a homemaker.
She is also survived by three daughters, Mrs. Teresa Dohner, Warsaw; Elizabeth Seaberg, Silver Lake; and Cynthia Seaberg, Fontana Calif; a son, Thomas George Seaberg Jr. of Warsaw; five sisters, Mrs. Lena Robinson of Nappanee, Mrs. O'Neita Hetzel of Wichita, Kansas, Mrs. Janie Hall of Fontana, Calif., Mrs. Carline Givens of Warsaw, and Mrs. Geraldine Edwards of San Bernardino, Calif; three brothers, Jimmy Ray Webb of Leesburg, Granville "Pee Wee" Webb of Warsaw, and Allen Webb of Warsaw; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, 1997 at the Casey Lloyd Funeral Home of Silver Lake. Pastor Donald Williams officiated. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery of Claypool.
Kathryn F. Scheibel
Kathryn Friedersdorf Scheibel, 83, of 335 Wilson St., Wabash, died at her residence Friday, Nov. 28, 1997.
She was born Nov. 15, 1914 in New Albany to William K. and Katie (Elliott) Hawley. She was married to John Friedersdorf on May 21, 1938. He died on April 29, 1969. Her second marriage was to Ewald A. Scheibel on July 10, 1976. He died Nov. 4, 1994.
Mrs. Scheibel was a medical assistant at Wabash County Hospital and Wabash Clinic for 50 years. She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church.
Surviving are two sons, Jake and Douglas Friedersdorf, both of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Kathryn Koon of Dundee, Ore.; a brother, Karl Hawley of Greensburg; two sisters, Mrs. Carolyn McKenzie of Buffalo Grove, IL and Mrs. Mary Keith of Hartford City; six grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren. Three brothers, five sisters and a stepdaughter are deceased.
Funeral service was held Sunday at Eddingfield-DeLaughter Mortuary. The Rev. Jim Walker officiated, and burial was in Falls Cemetery.
Pauline "Polly" C. Richard
Pauline "Polly" C. Richard, 93, 1630 S County Farm Rd., formerly of Silver Lake, died at Miller's Merry Manor, Warsaw, December 2, 1997.
She was born September 6, 1904 in Urbana, IN. She married Ronald Richard on September 14, 1922 and he preceded her in death July 29, 1995.
Mrs. Richard was a homemaker and a member of Silver Creek Church of God.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Jones of Silver Lake, IN and Garla Taylor of No. Manchester; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Della) Kem of Mt. Etna, IN and Dorothy Beall of Marion, IN; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.
Visiting hours will be at Casey Lloyd Funeral Home Strong Chapel in Silver Lake, Thursday, Dec. 4, 1997 from 2-8 p.m. and also from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral service at the church. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 5, 1997 at Silver Creek Church of God with the Rev. Thomas Graig officiating. Burial will be at Silver Creek Church of God Cemetery.
Lynn A. Ford
Lynn Albert Ford, 72, of 11 Elmwood Drive, Wabash, IN, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997 at Wabash Skilled Care Center, Wabash, IN. He was born Sept. 19, 1925 at Fort Wayne, IN to Cecil and Velma (Gibson) Ford. He married Marilyn Smith in Kokomo on March 2, 1957 and she survives.
He was retired as Judge of the Wabash County Circuit Court, having served from 1976 to 1988. He was a Wabash City Court Judge for four years, and a lifelong member of the Republican Party. He was a graduate of Indiana University School of Law. He was a member of St. Matthews United Church of Christ. He was an avid outdoorsman. He was a special agent for the FBI for three years, and had a private law practice in Wabash for 20 years. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Airborne in World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons - Stephen Ford of Pendleton, IN and Brian Ford of New Castle, IN; three daughters - Susie Rohr of North Manchester, Reta Klingerman of Noblesville, and Melissa Showalter of Wabash; brothers Byron Ford of Cincinnati, OH and Gerald Ford of Richmond, IN; sisters LaVada Bostwick of Lebanon, IN and Janet Endsley of Delphos, OH; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother.
Graveside funeral service was held today, Wednesday, Dec. 10, 1997 with the Rev. Carl Hanser officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery, Wabash.

Gladys M. Pfledderer
Gladys M. Pfledderer, 77, of 3370E 1450N, North Manchester, IN, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997 at Wabash County Hospital. She was born Feb. 21, 1920 in Kentucky to the late Green Bradley and Ula (Tussey) Bradley of North Manchester. She married Paul F. Pfledderer July 1, 1938 and he died Dec. 25, 1977.
She was retired from Gatke Corporation of Warsaw, IN after 40 years employment.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Pfledderer of North Manchester;and two sisters, Mrs. Richard (Barbara) Miller of Winona Lake, IN and Mrs. Roger (Sandy) Grossnickle of North Manchester. Three brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary of North Manchester, which was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery, South Whitley, IN.
Joel T. Martin
Joel Thomas Martin, 49, of 7711 W. Swick Road, Claypool, IN died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997 at his residence. He was born Feb. 5, 1948 in Johnson County, Kentucky, to Thomas J. and Oshie Mae (Collins) Martin.
Mr. Martin had been ill three years. He lived most of his life in Wabash County, and moved to his current address about three months ago from East Harrison Avenue in Wabash.
Survivors include sisters, Mrs. Zella Mae Edmonds of Claypool, IN and Mrs. Harrison (Minnie) Castle of Beaver Dam Lake;and a brother, Ralph Martin, also of Beaver Dam Lake.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, Dec. 9, 1997 at the Manchester Avenue Chapel of Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash.
