Naxine L. Baker
Maxine L. Baker, 86, of 110 W. Fourth St., North Manchester, IN, died Sunday, March 31, 2002 at Cambridge House of Warsaw, IN. She was born July 31, 1915 at Wabash County, IN to David Elsworth and Myrtle (Steller) Rinehart, both deceased. She married Bruce H. Baker Oct. 10, 1931; he preceded her in death February 5, 1976.
She was retired from the former TriWec Co., North Manchester.
Survivors include a daughter, Norma Metzger of North Manchester and a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Bud (Linda Baker) Lindzy, of North Manchester; a brother, Fred Rinehart, Huntington; and a sister, Mrs. Max (Donnabelle) Clark of North Manchester. Seven grandchildren , 15 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive. One son, Norman "Skip" Baker died in 1989; two brothers and five sisters also preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday afternoon, April 3, 2002 at 2:00 p .m. with the Rev. J. P. Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery of North Manchester.
Rev. Clarence R. Kindley
Rev. Clarence Robert Kindley, 95, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Saturday morning, March 30, 2002 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. He was born April 5, 1906 at Wabash County, IN to Ora Albert and Laura (Allen) Kindley. He married Edna L. Swihart April 28, 1934 near Roann; she died October 27, 1999.
He was a member of the North Manchester First Brethren Church. He was a 1924 graduate of Banquo High School, and had lived at Timbercrest since June, 1995. He was owner of a grocery in Roann from 1936-19457; then moved to North Manchester and worked for a wholesale drug company, Humiston Keeling, for 19 years. He then attended Ashland Theological Seminary and entered the ministry of the Brethren Church where he served the Flora IN Church for seven years, Twelve Mile (IN) Church for five years, and Johnstown, PA Church for six years; he retired in 1981. He also served as an interim pastor at Dutchtown First Brethren Church near Warsaw.
Survivors include three daughters - Mrs. David (Lavaughn) Wells of Boise, ID, Mrs. Phillip (Margaret) Dean of Rockford, IL, and Alice L. Ault of St. Louis, MO; two brothers - Charles L. Kindley of Marion, IN and Milford P. Kindley of Edmonds, WA; a sister, Olive Coleson of Marion, IN; five grandchildren, three great grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. John Mishler, a nephew, officiating. Burial will take place in the Roann Community Cemetery. Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Martha A. Dickey
Martha A. Dickey, 79, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, and formerly of Silver Lake, IN, died Saturday afternoon, March 30, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital of Fort Wayne. She was born June 13, 1922 at Liberty Center, IN to Daniel C. and A. Abigail (Ledbetter) Frantz. She married Kenneth L. Dickey June 10, 1945, and he survives.
She was a 1940 graduate of Liberty Center (IN) High School, and a 1943 graduate from Manchester College. She completed her Master's Degree from St. Francis College, Fort Wayne, in 1973.
She taught five years at Churubusco, Sidney, and Chippewa High Schools. She retired after teaching 19 years at Laketon Elementary School where she taught learning disabilities and second grade. She helped develop the Indiana state curriculum for learning disability classes.
She was a member of the West Eel River Church of the Brethren of Silver Lake, the Kenapocomoco Home Ec Club of North Manchester, the Wabash County Retired Teachers' Association, and the Gideons Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, Kenneth, she is survived by a son, Ralph Dickey of Silver Lake; three daughters - Mrs. Gail (Mary Alice) Weber of Fairview, TN, Mrs. Ted (Jane Anne) Curless of North Olmsted, OH, and Mrs. Chuck (Jo Ellen) Hogan of Winona Lake, IN; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Four brothers and one grandchild preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 3, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the West Eel River Church of the Brethren, 979 W. SR 14, Silver Lake, with the Rev. Paul Tinkel officiating. Burial will be at Elm Grove Cemetery of Bluffton where graveside service will be held at 4:00 p.m.

Ruth K. Amos
SOUTH WHITLEY - Ruth Kinzie Amos, 86, a former South Whitley resident, died Saturday morning, March 30, in the Hospice Home of Northeast Indiana, Fort Wayne. Mrs. Amos had been a resident of Peabody Retirement Community in North Manchester for the past six months. She was born Feb. 10, 1916 at Hoover, IN, a daughter of Marion Tanguy and Elva Ann (Wagoner) Kinzie. She graduated from the Flora High School and received her degree in nursing in 1938 from St. Luke's School of Nursing, Chicago.
She was employed at Whitley County Memorial Hospital of Columbia City as a registered nurse, retiring in 1984 with 33 years of service. She married Fred R. Amos August 13, 1938 and they moved to South Whitley in 1947; Mr. Amos died Sept. 21, 1984.
She was a member of the Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, the Blessing Bunch of the Church and the Garden Club of Indiana.
Survivors include three daughters - Mrs. Fred (Prudence B.) Widlak of Lisle, IL, Mrs. Ben (Sheryl M.) Burrell of Toano, VA, and Constance S. Leino of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren - Lisa M. and Peter B. Burrell, Jessica L. and Russell P. Leino; three sisters, Freda M. Hulme of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Wilma J. Parmerlee of North Manchester and Doris E. Weimer of Beverly, MA. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. R. Vernon Kinzie and Dr. M. Dale Kinzie, and a sister, Vada M. Longenecker, a North Manchester resident.
Funeral service was held Monday, April 1, at 11 a.m. in the Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, SR 14, Silver Lake, with Pastor Dan Riccius officiating. Burial was in South Whitley Cemetery.
Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to the Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, or the Salvation Army.
Mary G. Nix
Mary Grace Nix, 91, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community of North Manchester, died Friday evening, March 29, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center. She was born May 30, 1910 at Logansport, IN to Alfred and Gertrude (Roach) Eagan. She married Lawrence Nix in Logansport, IN on Feb. 16,1930; he died April 11, 1955.
She was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church of Wabash for more than 60 years.
She is survived by a son, Robert Nix of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Mrs. Kenneth (Dorothy) Trueman of Marion, IN; a brother Robert Eagan of Toledo, OH; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Four brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Rosary service was held Monday, 7:30 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, and funeral was held at St. Bernard Catholic Church Tuesday morning, 11:00 a.m. with Father Sextus Don officiating. Burial was in Falls Cemetery of Wabash.
Helen V. Olmstead
Helen V. Olmstead, 90, of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Thursday, March 28 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born Oct. 22, 1911 at Columbus Grove, OH to Lee and Grace (Mayberry) Featheringill. She married Ralph L. Olmstead in Elkhart, IN on Dec. 28, 1919; he died July 9, 1974.
A homemaker, Helen lived in Wabash County from 1935-1959; in St. Petersburg, FL from 1965-1994; and at Timbercrest since 1994.
She is survived by two sons - Larry Olmstead of Wabash and Dennie Olmstead of Chesterland, OH; two daughters - Rhea Wilcox and Beverly Fordyce, both of Wabash; two brothers - Leon Featheringill of Costa Mesa, CA and Merrit Featheringill of Tupelo, MS; 13 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Private family services will be held later, and burial will take place in Memorial Lawns Cemetery at a later date.

Mary E. Richwine
Mary Elizabeth Richwine, 95, of 1720 Alber St., Wabash, IN, died Thursday, morning, March 28, 2002 at Miller's Merry Manor West, Wabash, IN. A lifetime resident of Wabash, IN, she was born August 18, 1906 at Wabash to George and Lulu (Fowler) Stands. She married Ralph L. Richwine June 10, 1926; he preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1994.
She was a 1925 graduate of Wabash High School, and was retired from serving as payroll clerk at Kroger Co., of Wabash. She was a member of the Wabash Christian Church.
She is survived by two daughters - Mrs. Austin (Janice) Russell of Wabash and Mrs. David (Carol) Owen of Upland, IN; seven grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. A son and a daughter preceded her in death
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 30, 2002 at McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel, Wabash. The Rev. Jeff Earwood officiated, and burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery.
Don A. Cassidy
Don A. Cassidy, 75, of 8110S 800E, Amboy, IN, died Wednesday, March 27, 2002, at Methodist Hospital of Indianapolis. He was born Oct. 19, 1926 at Wabash, IN to William S. and Mary (Silvers) Cassidy. He married Dorothy E. Lasso May 15, 1944; she preceded him in death Nov. 6, 2000.
He was a retired union sheet metal worker. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, and a member of the American Legion Post 15, and Eagles Lodge, both of Wabash.
Survivors include a special friend, Vay France of Wabash; a daughter, Mrs. Gene (Cheryl) Bowman of Amboy, IN; a brother, Gene (Ann) Davis of Talbot, TN; two sisters - Mrs. Harry (Shirley) Brewer of Marion and Mrs. Blanche Cargo of Huntington; three grandchildren, three great-grandchildren. A son, two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Graveside service was held Saturday, March 30, 2002 at Lutheran Cemetery, Wabash County, SR 124 with Arlie Cassidy officiating. McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel of Wabash was in charge of arrangements.
Grace D Taylor
Grace D Taylor, 72, of 2 Laurel Circle, North Manchester, IN, died Tuesday, March 26, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born May 21, 1929 at Bremen, IN to Stephen and Addie (Denton) O'Reilley, both deceased. A homemaker, she married Rev. Jay A. Taylor June 10, 1951 and he survives.
She was a member of the North Manchester United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the North Manchester Historical Society, Canal Society of Indiana, and a member of United Methodist Women. She was involved as volunteer in music and administration for the United Methodist Camp Program; a member of Singing Saints of N. Manchester United Methodist Church, member of Purdue Home Extension Chorus, and organist and pianist for several churches.
Other survivors include two sons - Joseph (Sharon Fradenburgh) Taylor of Atlanta, GA and Rev. Richard (Rae) Taylor of Rochester, IN; a daughter, Rebecca Taylor of Highland, IN; two sisters - Phyllis O'Reilley and Rosella O'Reilley, both of Fort Wayne; and three grandchildren. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Fred Bishop and Rev. Gerald Hewson officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery of Servia, IN.

Zoe A. Priser
Zoe A. (Lester) Priser, 100, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Tuesday afternoon, March 26, 2002 at Timbercrest. She was born April 25, 1901 at Wabash County, IN to Owen and Bessie Alice (Hetler) Lester. She was a graduate of Chester Township High School and lived most of her life in North Manchester.
She married Kenton L. Priser on July 9, 1921; he died Jan. 29, 1974. She was a homemaker and a member of the North Manchester Church of the Brethren. She was also a member of the Ivy Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star in North Manchester, and the North Manchester DAR.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Daniel Senseman of Terre Haute, IN; a daughter-in-law, Jean Priser of Flint, MI, and a sister-in-law, Lori Priser of Evansville, IN; granddaughters Linda Priser Blackburn of Houston, TX and Mrs. James (Kathryn) Laudick of Indianapolis; grandsons James (Connie) Priser of West Unity, OH, David (Diane) Senseman of Centerville, OH, Kenneth (Rita) Senseman of Noblesville, IN and Robert (Stacey) Senseman of Terre Haute; 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. A son, Lester Priser, died May 15, 1998; a daughter, Alice Mae Senseman died Oct. 17, 1993; two brothers and a sister also preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, March 30, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Timbercrest Chapel with Pastor Susan Boyer officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.

Rev. Leo Gathany
Rev. R. Leo Gathany, 85, of 605 N. Mill St., North Manchester, IN, died Monday afternoon, March 25, 2002 at the home of his son, 14855 N SR 13, North Manchester. He was born Jan. 20, 1917 at Hallstead, PA to Eugene P. and Eva (Gage) Gathany, both deceased. He married Mary I. Whipple October 29, 1939; she died June 18, 1997.
Rev. Gathany served as a Baptist minister for more than 50 years, ministering at Hillcrest Baptist Church of Logansport, IN, Calvary Baptist Church of Highland, IN, as well as churches in Michigan, New York, and West Virginia, and numerous interim pastorates in Indiana.
He was a 1936 Hallstead, PA High School graduate. He graduated in 1939 from Practical Bible Training School of Johnson City, NY, now Practical Bible College.
"At a young age, Leo received the free gift of salvation provided by the spiritual death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. He understood that salvation is offered to the entire human race, free and clear, without human deserving or merit, and that Jesus Christ left nothing undone on the cross. He believed in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and was then and there given eternal life. His departure constitutes a great victory which brings honor and glory to the Lord. 'Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints'," commented his family informant.
Survivors include sons Paul H. Gathany of Cedarville, OH, James W. Gathany of Crown Point, IN and Andrew L. Gathany of North Manchester; a daughter Mrs. Doug (Deborah) Hardy of South Bend; three sisters, Ruth Klinepeter of Pensacola, FL, Marcella Colwell of Susquehanna, PA, and Esther Robb of Binghamton, NY; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Three brothers and three sisters and one grandchild preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, March 29, 2002 at 1:00 p.m. at the church of which he was a member, Faith Baptist Church of North Manchester. Officiants included his son, Rev. Andrew Gathany, Rev. Louis Showers, and Rev. Mark Klinepeter. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
