Dorothy L. Mills
Dorothy L. Mills, 84, died March 25, 2002 at Tulsa, OK. She was born Dec. 17, 1917 to Edgar L. and Ada I. (Fuller) Howard. She married the late Dr. John F. Mills, M.D. of Wabash. She is survived by her stepfather, John Schoolman of Irish Lake, three sons - Gary (Mallory) Miniear of Warsaw, Pete Miniear of Florida, and Conrad (Carolyn) Miniear of Billings, MT and a daughter, Mrs. David (Deborah) W. Freeman; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Mills graduated from Peru High School in 1936, and spent many years living in North Manchester before retiring with her husband to their lake home on Irish Lake. She was a past member of Tippecanoe Lake Country Club and a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Prior to her death, Mrs. Mills expressed appreciation to the Cancer Treatment Centers of America (Tulsa, OK/Goshen, IN) for the innovative and excellent care she received for the past year, making her life more enjoyable.
McHatton Sadler Funeral Chapel, Inc. of Warsaw, Indiana was in charge of her funeral, which took place Monday morning, April 1, 2002. Graveside services were held at Oakwood Cemetery of Warsaw. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to express condolences are encouraged to contribute to the Dorothy L. Mills "Living, Learning, Loving" Scholarship Fund, to be paid to the Kosciusko County Foundation (574-267-1901).
John P. Grogg
John P. Grogg, 54, of 1321 N SR 115, Wabash, IN, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN, the result of an auto/truck collision. He was born May 11, 1947 at Wabash, IN to Paul and Ruthann (Wilson) Grogg. He married Charlotte Keppel, June 8, 1996. She survives.
Mr. Grogg was an industrial maintenance supervisor at Safe Way Door of Warsaw, IN. He formerly worked at Nestle Beverage Co. of Freehole, NJ for 19 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran, a member of Laketon American Legion, North Manchester Belles & Beaus Square Dance Club, and the National Rifle Association.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Duane Grogg of North Manchester; step sons, Tim Keppel of Logansport and Jim Keppel of Wabash; daughters - Mrs. John (Sherry L.) Thomas and Tammy R. Grogg. both of South Toms River, NJ; step daughters Laura Fletcher of Bluffton, IN and Jane Wenrich of Angola, IN; two grandchildren, and 11 step grandchildren.
There are no funeral plans, but a private burial service will be held at a later date in New Jersey. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Gladys M. Deardorff
Gladys M. Deardorff, 88, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN, died Monday, March 25, 2002 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. She was born Feb. 17, 1914 at Hartville, OH to Aaron and Lottie (Carper) Kinsley. She married Harry H. Deardorff on June 14, 1935; he died January 28, 1994.
She was former owner of the Deardorff Restaurant and Deardorff Confectionery both at Hartville, OH. She was also secretary at the Akron (OH) Savings & Loan.
She graduated from Hartville (OH) High School and from Manchester College. She was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Survivors include two sons - Barry (Arlene) Deardorff of Glenview, IL and Darryl (Juanita) Deardorff of Elgin, IL; three brothers - Evan Kinsley of North Manchester, Gene Kinsley of Daytona, FL and Keith Pontius of Fairfield, Glade, TN; a sister, Bette Gump of Trotwood, OH; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. One brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held Wednesday, April 17, 2002 at Timbercrest Chapel, 2201 East St., North Manchester with Pastor Susan Boyer, Chaplains David Doudt and Joan Deeter officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
Burial will be at Mt. Peace Cemetery of Hartville, OH. Preferred memorials are to Timbercrest Retirement Community or Manchester College. Arrangements are by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.
Ellen L. McLean
Ellen L. McLean, 86, of 14 S. Wayne St., Peru, IN died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at her residence. She was born Feb. 10, 1916 at Elizabethton, TN to Andy and Hattie (Guinn) Sims. She married Paul McLean at Bristol, TN on Nov. 3, 19033; he died Jan. 16, 1970.
She worked 29 years at U.S. Gypsum, Wabash, retiring in 1980. She lived in Roann from 1965-1970 and in Peru since 1970.
Survivors include a son Larry (Judy) McLean of Wabash, two grandsons, five great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. Three sisters and a brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, March 29, 2002 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel, with Howard Waters, Evangelist, officiating. Burial was in Roann Community Cemetery located at Roann, IN.
Susan J. Becraft
Susan J. (Ireland) Becraft, 84, died January 3, 2002 in Naples, FL. She was the daughter of Marion Ireland or Rochester, IN and Bernice Ireland of Laketon, IN.
She is survived by her brother, Marion Ireland, Jr. of North Manchester and four children - Suzanne Walker, Sylvia Hall, John L. Becraft, and Sarah E. MacLarty, all of Naples; nine grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren.
Susan was a member of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Legion Auxiliary in Laketon.

Arizona Mullins
Services for Arizona Mullins, 81, rural Pierceton, IN were held Sunday afternoon, March 24, 2002 at Free United Baptist Church of Packerton, IN. Rev. Etsie Allen, Rev. James Rowe and Rev. Willie Collins officiated. The Free United Baptist singers provided special music.
Burial was at Hillcrest Cemetery of Pierceton where pallbearers Rickey Francis Sr., Rickey Francis Jr., Basel Hale, Jr., Forest Hale, Roger Hale, and Steve Mullins served. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.
Lois Eckhart Smithers
Lois Eckhart Smithers, 97, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, and formerly of 1510 N. Wayne St., North Manchester, IN, died Saturday, March 23, 2002 at Lake Jesup Retirement Home of Sanford, FL. She was born Sept. 14, 1904 at Rockford, OH to John M. and Grace (Stober) Williams. She married Clyde Eckhart on July 3, 1924; he died Jan. 13, 1977. Her second marriage was to Diamond Smithers in 1986; he died in 1988.
She was a retired secretary at Oppenheim's Department Store, No. Manchester. She was a member of Congregational Christian Church. She graduated from International Business College in 1924. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Ivy Chapter #69 Order of Eastern Star, Historical Society, all of North Manchester. She was also an honorary member of Tri Kappa at North Manchester and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She is survived by a son, Robert Eckhart of Seattle, WA; two sisters - Virginia Walker of North Manchester and Rosalie Farmer of Rockford, OH. Two brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
There will be no calling, but a private burial service will take place at Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Arrangements are by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel. Preferred memorials are to the Congregational Christian Church of North Manchester.
Thelma L. Hippensteel
Thelma L. Hippensteel, 94, of 4750 W 900N, Huntington, IN, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 in The Heritage of Huntington, Huntington, IN. She was born July 13, 1907 in Wabash County to Ludivico and Dora (Cunningham) Wright and was a life time resident of Huntington County.
Mrs. Hippensteel graduated from Manchester High School in 1925, and went on to receive a Bachelor's Degree from Manchester College in 1929 and the Master's Degree in Library Science from Ball State University.
She married Dale E. Hippensteel Feb. 28, 1935 in Plymouth, IN; he preceded her in death on Nov. 17, 2001. She retired in 1972 from the Huntington County Community School Corporation as a teacher and librarian. She also farmed with her husband in Clear Creek Township. She was a member of the Indiana State Teachers Association, Huntington Area Retired Teachers Association, and Clear Creek Homemakers Club.
Survivors include four sons - Peter A. ( Delores) Hippensteel of Angola, IN, Bruce H. (Judith) Hippensteel of Wolcottville, IN, Stanley G. (Jean) Hippensteel of Huntington, and Kirk E. ( Bonnie) Hippensteel, M.D. of Roanoke, VA; a daughter, Lynn A. Hippensteel of South Venice, FL; 10 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren. Two brothers, William Donald Wright and Lowell Wright, and two sisters, Opal Abbe and Dorothy Crumrine preceded her in death.
A private memorial service was held Saturday, March 23, 2002 at the Bailey-Love Mortuary, 35 W. Park Dr., Huntington. Burial will be at a later date.

Mildred Hager
Mildred Hager, 81, of 165 LaFayette St., Wabash, IN, died Tuesday, March 19, 2002 at her residence. She was born at Van Lear, KY to Earl (Doc) and Alice Blevins August 10, 1920. A homemaker and a care giver, she married Eugene W. Hager July 9, 1937. She was a member of the New Life Baptist Church of Wabash.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters - Jonelle Burchett and Mrs. John (Eulagene) DeBoard, both of Wabash; three brothers - Orville (Betty) Blevins of Betsy Layne, KY, Charles (Larcie) Blevins of Weeksbury, KY, and Bobby Blevins of Lincoln Park, MI; a sister, Mrs. Wanda Tackett of Knoxville, TN; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were two daughters, a brother, a sister and a granddaughter.
Funeral service was held Friday, March 22, 2002 at McDonald Funeral Home, Eddingfield Chapel with Pastor Steve Parks officiating. She was buried at Falls Cemetery of Wabash, and McDonald Funeral Home, Inc., Eddingfield Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Dorothy J. Rice
Dorothy J. Rice, 85, of 619 Gillen Ave., Wabash, IN since 1941, died Thursday, March 21, 2002 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center of LaFontaine, IN. She was born June 12, 1916 at Logansport, IN to George and Lillian (Brown) Wortley.
A homemaker, she married William A. Rice May 8, 1937; he died May 18, 1996. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church of Wabash. She was a 1934 graduate of Logansport High School.
Survivors include two sons - Gary A. Rice of Muncie, IN and Randall W. (Judy) Rice of Rapidan, VA. Two brothers and a sister preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, March 25, 2002 at McDonald Funeral Home Eddingfield Chapel, with Rev. L. Michael Wilson officiating. Burial was in Speicher Cemetery of Urbana, IN.
Robert G. Tracy
Robert Gene Tracy, 73, of 228 S. HiWay Dr., Marion, IN, died Wednesday, March 20, 2002 at his residence. He was born June 7, 1928 in Silver Lake, IN to the late Arthur and Nell (Thacker) Tracy. He was a former employee of Owens-Illinois Glass Factory, retiring in 1974 after 25 years.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran. He had attended I.U., Bloomington. He was a member of the American Legion Post 95, Jonesboro, and enjoyed photography, traveling, and I.U. Basketball.
Survivors include sons Tom (Sue) Tracy of Jonesboro, IN and Pat Tracy of Florida; a daughter, Mrs. Terry (Teresa) Shafer of Converse, IN; sisters Mildred Gresso of Wabash and Hilda Waechter of North Manchester; grandchildren Todd (Michelle) Tracy, Catina (Noel) Ratliff, Sarah (Jason) Smoker, Evan Shafer, Michael Shafer, and Tiffany Tracy. A brother, Russell Tracy, preceded him in death.
Graveside funeral services were held at Lakeview Cemetery of Silver Lake, IN, on Monday, March 25, 2002 with Rev. Matthew Stultz officiating.
Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, Storey Chapel, of 400 E. Main St., Gas City, IN was in charge of arrangements.
Arizona Mullins
Arizona Mullins, 81, of 8545 W. Old Trail Road, Pierceton, IN, died Friday, March 22, 2002 at Kosciusko Community Hospital, Warsaw, IN. She was born Feb. 28, 1921 at Magoffin County, KY to Bass and Dollie (Allen) Howard. A homemaker, she married Jimmie Mullins on Oct. 9, 1939; he died August 11, 1990.
She was a member of the Free United Baptist Church of Packerton, IN.
Survivors include two sons - Lawrence Mullins of Nappanee and Rosco Mullins of Warsaw; daughters Eliner Francis, Ella Rea Bradley, Mrs. Basel (Evalie) Hale, Mrs. Paul (Guarline) Conley, all of Pierceton; brothers Rosco Howard and Lonzo Howard, both of Pierceton, and Monroe Howard of Martin, KY; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. Four sons, two daughters, three brothers and three sisters, a grandson and a granddaughter preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Sunday, March 24, 2002 at the Free United Baptist Church of Packerton with Revs. Etsie Allen, James Rowe, and Willie Collins officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery of Pierceton.
