Raymond J. Dyson
Raymond J. Dyson, 84, a resident of Community Care Center, Wabash, died at the Care Center June 11, 2002. He was born June 7, 1918 at Wabash County to William and Mary (Clock) Dyson. He married Wanda R. Thomas in Roann, IN on June 9, 1936; she died April 5, 1992. He then married Ellen M. Anderson Hobbs on Nov. 20, 1993, and she died Jan. 25, 1995.
He was a farmer and a member of the New Life Baptist Church of Wabash. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Survivors include a son Eugene (Jill) Dyson of Wabash; daughters Mrs. Jack (Carol) Baker of Lafayette, IN and Deanne Mullenix of Wabash; brothers Robert (Dorotha) Dyson of Wabash and Gerald (Maxine) Dyson of Roann; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by five brothers and a sister.
Funeral service was held Friday, June 14, 2002 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel with Rev. John Rickner officiating. Burial was in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, located at Wabash.

Phyllis A. Mahlan
Phyllis A. Mahlan, 66, of 35 Homestead, Decatur, IN died Juine 14, 2002 at her residence following an illness of eight months. She was born at Magoffin County, KY to John W. and Mae (Wireman) Hopkins. She married John H. Mahlan March 19, 1955 in Antioch Lutheran Church of Hoagland, IN.
She was retired in January 1998 as Head Start Teacher with 31 years of service. She was a member of Antioch Lutheran Church, Hoagland; WELCA; Decatur Women's Cub and American Legion Post 43 Auxiliary.
She is survived by her husband; her mother and stepfather, William and Mae Clever of Lakeland, FL; sons and daughters-in-law, Kevin S. and Cheryl Mahlan of Decatur, Chris A. and Robyn Mahlan of Hoagland, and David E. and Nancy Mahlan of Decatur; a sister, Sandra L. McNary of Syracuse; and 12 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald E. Hopkins.
Funeral service was held Monday, June 17, 2002 at Antioch Lutheran Church with Rev. Joe McInnis officiating. Burial was in Antioch Cemetery of Hoagland.

Velma E. Felabom
Services for Velma E. Felabom, 101, of Peabody Retirement Community, were held Saturday morning at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel with Pastor J.P. Freeman and Chaplain H. Jordan Truman officiating.
Remembrances were given by Gene Penn. Peggy Boggs served as organist. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia.
Pallbearers were Mike Felaom, Jim Felabom, Brett Eberly, Tom Pifer, Bob Ulmer, and Gary Cagle. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary.

Hattie Jane Rhoades
Services for Hattie Jane Rhoades, 74, of North Manchester, were held Tuesday morning, June 11, 2002 at Peabody Chapel, North Manchester. Chaplain H. Jordan Truman officiated, and burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.

Theron M. Bechtold
Theron M. "Zip" Bechtold, 85, rural Urbana, were held Sunday afternoon at Salem United Methodist Church of rural Urbana. Pastor Randell Webb and Rev. J.P. Freeman officiated.
Cheryl Ranck presided at the organ, and Jill Biehl was vocalist.
Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel.

Donald L. Shafer, Jr.
Donald Lee Shafer, Jr., 45, of 8135N 200W, North Manchester, IN, died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne, IN. He was born Feb. 8, 1957 at Peru, IN to Donald L. and Sarah (Walker) Shafer of Wabash. He married Dawn M. Norman in Roann, IN on July 17, 1976. He worked at Ford Meter Box, Wabash, 27 years, the last several as maintenance supervisor.
He was a 1975 graduate of Northfield High School. He attended Roann United Methodist Church. He coached Little League in Wabash, girls softball in North Manchester, and was an avid golfer.
He is survived by his wife, Dawn, North Manchester; his parents of Wabash, two sons - Tory L. (Penny) Shafer of Wabash and Lee C. Shafer of North Manchester; a daughter, Hayley M. Shafer of North Manchester; a granddaughter Jordan T. Keaffaber of Wabash; two sisters - Mrs. Tom (Kathy) Meints of Wabash and Mrs. John (Kris) Stebbins of Zionsville, IN; brothers Randy (Laurie) Shafer of Wabash, Steven (Donna) Shafer of Pell City, AL, and Tim (Tammy) Shafer of North Manchester.
Friends may call Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. at Grandstaff-Hengen, Roann Chapel, and one hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at Roann United Methodist Church, Thursday, June 27, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. corner of Adams and Arnold St., Roann. Rev. Steve Holland, Denise Holland, and Rick Stone will officiate. Burial will take place at the Roann Community Cemetery.

Robert W. Miller
Robert W. Miller, 52, of Hawley, PA, died Saturday, June 22, 2002, the result of an auto accident in Pike County near Hawley, PA. He was born Nov. 22, 1949 at Warsaw, IN to Ralph and Pauline (Fingerle) Miller, both surviving at North Manchester.
He was a carpenter and construction worker and was a member of the Bloomingrove (PA) Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by sons Ryan Walmer of Indianapolis and Shawn Miller of Hawley, PA; a step son, Thomas Hartman of New Paris, IN; a daughter, Shayna Miller of Hawley, PA; a brother William Miller of North Manchester; and a sister, Deanna Newton of Warsaw; and two grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, June 29, 2002 at 10:00 a.m.. at the North Manchester Old German Baptist Church, Home Brethren will officiate. Friends may call Friday, June 28 from 2 to 8 p.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel. Burial will be at the Old German Baptist Cemetery of North Manchester.

Lela P. Gotschall
Lela Pauline Gotschall, 89, of 604 N. Rennaker St., LaFontaine, IN died Friday, June 21, 2002, at Rolling Meadows Health Care of LaFontaine. She was born Dec. 20, 1912 at Winamac, IN to Elmus M. and Maude E. (Hickman) Kline, both deceased. She married Chester E. Gotschall March 17, 1937; he preceded her in death Aug. 10, 1998.
She was a homemaker and helper on the farm. She was a member of the Rebecca Lodge of LaFontaine.
Survivors include a son Frank (Mary Lou) Gottschall of Converse, IN; a daughter, Mrs. Frank (Millie Pauline) Ludwig of Monterey, IN; six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren , and two step great great grandchildren. One brother preceded her in death.
Graveside funeral service was held Tuesday, June 25, 2002 at LaFontaine IOOF Cemetery with Rev. Phil Hershberger officiating. McDonald Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Patsy J. Cook
Patsy J. Cook, 71, of 5635E 1250N, North Manchester, IN, died Friday, June 21, 2002 at Goshen General Hospital, Goshen, IN. She was born January 10, 1931 at Roann, IN to Omal and Clara Gale (Whitmyre) Michael. She married Keith D. Cook August 31, 1963 and he survives.
She was a 1949 graduate of Laketon High School, and from Fort Wayne Beauty College. She was a 45-year member of Epsilon Sigma Alpha.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Lisa Hendershott of Middlebury, IN; a sister, Mrs. James (Shirley) Clark of Ellenton, FL; three grandchildren - Lindsay, Kimberly, and Christopher Hendershott, all of Middlebury, IN.
Funeral service was Wednesday, June 26, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel. Rev. John Whitcraft officiated and burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of North Manchester.

James H. Roberson
James H. Roberson, 86, of 2 Chase Park, Logansport, IN, died JUNE 20, 2002, at Chase Convalescent Center, Logansport, IN. He was born Feb. 3, 1916 at Cass County to George and Sara Emma (Kleckner) Roberson. He married Betty Wade July 11, 1937 at Logansport, and she survives.
James was a graduate of Lucerne High School. He was a farmer and had retired from Elco.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son James W. (Vicki) Roberson of Walton, IN; son Gary D. (Pam) Roberson of Mishawaka, IN; a daughter, Mrs. Gene C. (Linda L.) Dyson of North Manchester; a brother, George Lowell Roberson of Logansport; 10 grandchildren, 16 great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother and four sisters.
Funeral service will be held at Ever-Rest Memorial Park Chapel, the details of which are pending. Interment will be at Ever-Rest Memorial Park of Logansport.
Fisher Funeral Chapel, 1801 Chase Road, Logansport, is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation, Indiana Chapter, 8660 Gunion Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46268.

W. Joyce Bollinger
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith", are words that would apply to W. Joyce Bollinger, 98, of 8333S 350W, South Whitley, IN 46787, who died at her residence south of Tunker, Washington Township, Whitley County on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 after a brief illness. She had lived there since 1926. She was born in Greentown, Howard County, IN March 11, 1904 to John Henry and Jennie Susan (Broyles) Reed. She graduated from Washington Center High School with the Class of 1923. She then was certified in March 1927 with the Sherwood Music School of Chicago. Mrs. Bollinger taught piano for more than 60 years to more than 350 students.
She married her high school sweetheart, Harry Rudolph Bollinger August 12, 1926 at the Church of the Brethren in Kokomo, IN. He was a school teacher for over 40 years in Whitley County, and preceded her in death on April 21, 1981.
She had been a member of the Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren of Tunker, the South Whitley Church of the Brethren, and lastly she had been attending the Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church of Columbia City. She was an avid reader, writer, writing some poetry and she loved her flower gardens.
Surviving are three daughters - Alice Joy Bohnstedt of Columbia City, Mary Ellen Thomas of South Whitley, and Wanda Rose Friesen of San Louis Obispo, CA; two sons, John Phares (Marian) Bollinger of Columbia city, and Harry R. (Velva) Bollinger of Marion, IN; a sister Juanita Reed Hoover of Marion; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were a brother, two half brothers, six half sisters, two sons-in-law, and a grandson and grandson in-law.
Funeral service was held Sunday, June 23, 2002 at the Community of Hope Grace Brethren Church, Columbia City. Burial was at Eberhard Cemetery, Keiser Road, Columbia City. Pastors Dan Gregory, Virgil Juillerat and Dan Riccius officiated. Memorial bequests may be given to Sugar Creek Church of the Brethren or Community of Hope Grace Brethren.
