Barbara J. Nitzschke
Barbara J. Nitzschke, 67, of 205 High St., North Manchester, died Friday, August 23, 2002 at her residence. She was born in Wabash County, IN to Wilbur and Effie (Coon) Meyer. She married Major Nitzschke on April 15, 1983; he survives.
She was a 1952 graduate of Chester High School, and was retired from Custom Magnetics in 2001. She was a life member of the VFW Auxiliary Post #286, Wabash, and a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post #286, North Manchester. She was also a member of the Eagles Lodge of North Manchester.
Survivors in addition to her husband include sons Randy Day and Rodney Day, both of North Manchester, and Rick Day of Mexico, IN; brothers John Meyer of Huntington, James Meyer of Fort Wayne, and Phillip Meyer of Berrien Springs, MI; sisters Mrs. John (Mary) Bowman and Mrs. Richard (Sally) Stickney, both of North Manchester; 13 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. A brother preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Tuesday, August 27, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel with Pastor Tim Prater officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Preferred memorials are to Wabash County Cancer Society.
Rosanna Faye Wallace
Rosanna Faye Wallace, 77, of 437 Decker Dr., Winamac, IN, died Thursday, Aug. 22, 2002 at Pulaski Memorial Hospital, Winamac, IN. She was born Sept. 11, 1924 at Chili, IN to Charles Sylvester and Myrtle Christine (Bayless) Swope. She married Theodore Wallace, Aug. 1, 1945, and he preceded her in death Feb. 10, 1987.
A homemaker, she lived most of her life in Pulaski County and was formerly a Star City resident. She was a member of the Star City United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Pulaski Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Auxiliary of Winamac.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Randie (Christine) Kopkey of North Manchester; sons Leslie (Donna) Wallace and Tom Wallace, both of Star City; and Rick (Tracy) Wallace of Winamac; 12 grandchildren, three step grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Swope, and brothers George and Clarence (Sam) Swope.
Funeral service was held Sunday, August 25, 2002 at Star City United Methodist Church with Rev. Kevin Marsh officiating. Burial took place in Star City West Cemetery of Star City, IN.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Star City United Methodist Church, Diabetes Association or Heart Association. Frain Mortuary Inc., 305 E. Main St., Winamac, IN, was in charge of arrangements.
Miles F. Walters
Miles F. Walters, 73, of 312 N. Market St., North Manchester, IN, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at h is residence. He was born April 14, 1929 at Huntington, IN to Fredrick and Ethel (Johnson) Walters. He married Charlene Stucker on July 31, 1948, and she survives.
He was retired from General Tire, Wabash, after 25 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lang (Priscilla) Bungitak of North Manchester.
Graveside service was held Friday, August 23, 2002 at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN with Pastor J. P. Freeman officiating. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
Thelma Rose Waterbury
Thelma Rose Waterbury, 86, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Wednesday, August 21, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester. She was born Dec. 14, 1915 at Toledo, OH to Robert and Ulva (Gifford) Howard.
She was a homemaker, married to John Waterbury Dec. 31, 1936; he died July 17, 1981. Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. William (Joyce) Sherwin of Claypool, IN; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A sister preceded her in death.
There were no services planned, and burial was in Toledo Memorial Cemetery, Toledo, OH. Preferred memorials are to Peabody Retirement Community, 400 W. Seventh St., North Manchester, IN. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary No. Manchester Chapel.
Carolyn Sue Ross
Carolyn Sue Ross, 60, of 3722W 200N, Wabash, IN, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002 at her residence. She was born J an. 16, 1942 at Wilmont, AR to William and Marie (Martin) Roark. She married R. Clayton Ross in Peru on Aug. 30, 1968. She and her husband owned CR's in Lagro 14 years and she had also worked at Stone Industries in Peru.
She was a member of Wabash American Legion Auxiliary and he Huntington V.F.W. Auxiliary. She attended Lagro United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her husband, of Wabash; her mother, Marie Roark of Peru; sons Michael (Joyce) Aulds and Wayne Hughes, both of Peru; grandsons Joshua Michael Aulds and Jacob Matthew Aulds, both of Wabash; a brother, William T. Roark and a sister Mrs. Steve (Bonnie Kaye) Gehring, both of Peru. A brother, Jimmy Roark preceded her in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, Aug. 23, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Manchester Ave. Chapel, Wabash, with Rev. Rick Stone officiating. Burial was in Center Grove Cemetery, located at Lincolnville, IN. Lizzie Dials
Lizzie Dials, 87, of 441 Miner St., Wabash, IN, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002 at Wabash County Hospital, Wabash, IN. She was born Dec. 16, 1914 at Floyd County, KY to Roach and Nancy (Bates) Thornsbury.
She was a homemaker and loved to garden. She was affiliated with the Old Regular Baptist Church in Wabash.
Survivors include three daughters - Mrs. Harold (Lora) McCleese and Mrs. Max (Edna Louise) Parson, both of Wabash, and Mrs. David (Amy) Feighner of Roanoke, IN; two sons - Kenneth (Beth) Dials of Logansport and Billy Ray (Joyce) Dials of Wabash; 18 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by four brothers and six sisters.

William F. Powell
William F. Powell, 83, of 603 N. Sycamore St., North Manchester, IN, died Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2002 at Lutheran Hospital of Indiana, Fort Wayne. He was born Dec. 20, 1918 at Peru, IN to Frank and Tessa (LeMaster) Powell. He married Margaret McCoy in Kokomo, IN on June 20, 1948.
He was a service man for PSI, retiring in 1981. He was a volunteer fireman for Chester Township Fire Department, retiring after 20 years. He was a past member of Isaak Walton League, and a past member of the Manchester Planning Commission. He also coached the Rotary Club Little League Team for several years. He served in the Air Force during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret of North Manchester; sons John W. Powell of North Manchester, and James E. ()Helen) Powell of Anchorage, AK. A sister preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Saturday, August 24, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel with Pastors J. P. Freeman and Fred Bishop officiating.

Marjorie E. Gregory
Services for Marjorie E. Gregory, 64, of rural Silver Lake were held Saturday afternoon, January 10, 2004 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel with E. J. Underwood officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester; pallbearers serving were Randy Patrick, Rick Patrick, Mike Patrick, Ty Patrick, Paul Seykora, and Jeff Madden.
Edson W. Carroll
Edson W. Carroll, 95, a resident of Timbercrest Senior Living Community, and formerly of rural Urbana, IN, died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center, North Manchester. He was born Oct. 15, 1908 in Huntington County, IN to Edmond and Mary (Prilaman) Carroll. He was a member of St. Robert’s Catholic Church, North Manchester. He was a lifelong farmer, having lived on the same farm for more than 80 years. He worked for Don Norwood Construction of Huntington. He helped build Norwood Golf Course, Huntington, and later served as maintenance man for the course. He retired in 1974. He married Dorothy H. Ludwig on April 23, 1935, and she survives, along with sons Eugene R. Carroll of Urbana and Robert (Ann) M. Carroll of North Manchester; a daughter, Mrs. Ernest (Betty L.) Wilcox Jr., North Manchester, five grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 and funeral service was preceded by the Rosary at 9:00 a.m. and took place at St. Robert’s Catholic Church with Fr. Ron Ramenaden officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN. Preferred memorials are to St. Robert’s Catholic Church, North Manchester.
Edna Pauline Weddle
Edna Pauline Weddle, 74, of 200 Luther Road, Jefferson, NC, and formerly of rural Urbana, IN, died Sunday, Jan. 11, 2004 at her residence. She was born May 30, 1929 in Huntington County, IN to Arthur D. and Iva May (Zellar) Burkhart. She was a 1948 graduate of Clear Creek High School. She married Philip F. Weddle May 30, 1948; he died Feb. 2, 1991. She retired from Midwest Poultry Co., North Manchester after 20 years. In North Carolina she was a foster grandparent at Ash Development Care, Jefferson, NC. She attended Buffalo Baptist Church of West Jefferson, NC. She is survived by two sons - John (Emily) Weddle of North Manchester, and Stephen (Elizabeth) Weddle of West Jefferson, NC; a sister, Mrs. Sharon (Betty) Steller of Servia, IN; and two grandchildren. A brother and two sisters preceded her in death. Funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel with Pastor Robert Gonser officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of North Manchester.
Kathleen Hatton
Kathleen Hatton, 81, of 506 E. Main St., Silver Lake, IN, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2004 at her residence. She was born in Garrett, KY to Walter and Byrd (Daniels) Fitzpatrick. She married Alvin Hatton Nov. 16, 1955, and he survives. She was a homemaker and retired from Timbercrest Senior Living Community, North Manchester. In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters - Patricia Garland of Warsaw and Arredia Phillips of Winchester, KY; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. One son, three brothers, and a sister preceded her in death. Funeral service was held Friday, Jan. 16. 2004 at DeLaughter-McKee Silver Lake Chapel, with Henry Arnett Jr. officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, IN.
Donna Jean Harrell
Donna Jean Harrell, 73, of 225 Chippewa St., Roann, IN died Friday, January 16, 2004 at Rolling Meadows Healthcare Center in LaFontaine. She was born April 18, 1930 in Coleman, MI to Elis E. Saline and Emma (Swan) Saline Klashak. She married Lester B. Harrell on Nov. 29, 1947 in Angola, IN; he died July 21, 1990. She retired from Waggoners/United Technologies in 1988 after 20 years. She was a member of Dora Christian Church, and lived in Roann since Oct. 1959. Survivors include two sons, Melvin E. Harrell of Roann, and Jerry L. (Betty) Harrell of Wabash; a daughter, Helen Holmes of Roann; sister Josephine Foust of Denver, IN;and four grandsons, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Della L. Harrell in 1954, three sisters and a brother. Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at Dora Christian Church, Lagro with Bill Cook officiating. Burial was in Mt. Etna Cemetery, Mount Etna, IN. Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Alzheimers Association.
Billie D. McKee
Billie D. McKee, 75, of 1410 Sunset Dr., North Manchester, IN died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004 at Peabody Healthcare Center, North Manchester, IN. He was born July 20, 1928 in North Manchester to Francis D. and Mildred M. (Michael) McKee. He married Joan M. O’Camb Oct. 5, 1958 and she survives. He was a 1948 graduate of Central High School, North Manchester, and was manager of Techaloy Co., City of Industry, CA. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, and a member of American Legion Post 286, North Manchester. Additional survivors include four sons - John McKee of Orange Park, FL, David McKee of Pierceton, IN, Tom McKee of Hisperia, CA and Daniel McKee of North Manchester; three daughters - Mrs. Timothy (Janet) Kranz of Altoloma, CA, Mary McKee of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Curt (Cheryl) Frischkown, Santa Fe, NM; two brothers - Richard and Tom McKee, both of Silver Lake, IN; and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Funeral service was held Monday, Jan. 19, 2004 at St. Rober'ts Catholic Church, North Manchester with Fr. Ron Ramenaden and Pastor J.P. Freeman officiating. Rosetta Schaaf
Rosetta Schaaf, 102 of 801 Lydia Dr., Warsaw, IN died Monday, Jan. 12, 2004 at Miller’s Merry Manor, Warsaw. She was born Oct. 11, 1901 in Wabash, IN to Elmer E. and Abbie E. (Grist) Slagal. She married Hueston E. Schaaf Nov. 15, 1919 at Wabash, and he died in 1982. She was a homemaker and resident of Kosciusko County, IN since 1963. She attended Wesleyan Methodist Church of Wabash. She is survived by three daughters and one son; 23 grandchildren one step grandson; 35 great grandchildren, 13 great great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Marvin (Betty) Engleman of North Manchester, IN. She was preceded in death by her husband, four daughters, one son, a grandchild, a great grandchild, five sisters, and four brothers. Funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 15 at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw with Dr. Bob Weiss officiating. Burial was in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, North Manchester. Lydia Mae Bowman
Lydia Mae Bowman, 83, a resident of Timbercrest Senior Living Community, 2201 East St., North Manchester, died Friday, January 16, 2004 at St. Joseph Hospital, Ft. Wayne, IN of complications following surgery on Jan. 9. She was born November 29, 1920 in New Paris, IN to the late Jonas S. and Delilah (Burkholder) Yoder. She married Ray S. Bowman July 26, 1949 in New Paris, and he survives. Mrs. Bowman helped start the Brethren Maternity Center in Bremen, IN. She worked as a registered nurse at South Bend Memorial and Goshen General Hospitals. She was a certified school nurse at Fairfield Community Schools for 18 years, and retired in May of 1984. She was a graduate of Manchester College, South Bend Memorial Hospital School of Nursing, and I.U. School of Nursing, where she earned her Bachelor’s degree, and from Ball State University where she earned her Master’s degree in health science. She was a member of North Manchester Church of the Brethren and the New Paris Church of the Brethren. In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Lewis (Ruth) Middleton of Noblesville, IN; two sons - Dr. David (Madonna) Bowman of Fond du Lac, WI, and Robert C. Bowman of Colorado Springs, CO; six grandchildren, and a great grandson; two sisters - Mrs. Willis (Dorothy) Kohli, Goshen, IN and Esther Ritenour, Sebring, FL; two brothers - John D. (Martha) Yoder of Goshen, and Carl W. Yoder of Nappanee, IN. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Ann Goppert, and four brothers - Levi C., Harvey W., Frank E. and Milo J. Yoder.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at Timbercrest Senior Living Community with Rev. Kurt Borgmann and Chaplain Rev. David Doudt officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the service.
