James M. Wood
James M. Wood, 74, of 407 N. Mill St., North Manchester, died September 9, 2002 at St. Margaret Mercy Hospital, Dyer, IN. He was born June 30, 1928 at Wabash, IN to Meredith M. and Lillian Carol (Miller) Wood.
He is survived by a brother, Danny Wood residing in Georgia; and three sisters - Phyllis Cox of North Manchester, Mrs. David (Rita) Mueller of Dyer, IN and Mrs. Jeff (Patty) Hopper of Denver, IN.
Friends called at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel Thursday, Sept. 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 13, 2002 at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. H. Jordan Truman officiating. Burial was at Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN.

Blaine M. Bowen
Blaine M. Bowen, 89, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at Timbercrest Healthcare Center. A lifetime Wabash County resident, he was born July 4, 1913 in Chester Township to Albert and Maude (Helm) Bowen. He was a 1931 graduate of Chester High School, and during his earlier years, he was a farmer, school bus driver and custodian for Manchester Community Schools.
He married Louise E. Walther Oct. 10, 1937 and she preceded him in death Nov. 19, 1999. He was a member of First Brethren Church, North Manchester, and a former member of Manchester Lions Club.
Survivors include a son, Todd Bowen of Fort Wayne, IN,. and a daughter, Mrs. Richard (Karen) Dawson of Warsaw; a sister, Kathryn E. Thompson of Fort Wayne; and five grandchildren - Brandon and Jillian Bowen, both of Fort Wayne, Tim and J. Todd Montel, both of Rochester, IN and Tammy Dittmer of Connersville, IN.
Funeral service was held Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Timbercrest Chapel, with Rev. Kurt Stout officiating. Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to First Brethren Church or Timbercrest. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Blaine M. Bowen
Services for Blaine M. Bowen, 89, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, were held Saturday morning, Sept. 14, 2002 at Timbercrest Chapel. Rev. Kurt Stout officiated.
Grace Voorheis presided at the organ, and special music was given by Martha Barker, violinist.
Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester; serving as pallbearers were Adam Montel, Justin Montel, Tim Montel, Roy Dittmer, Brandon Bowen, Kyle Rensberger, and J. Todd Montel. DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Richard J. Williams
Richard J. Williams, 46, of 4512 Laymer Rd., Fort Wayne, IN, and formerly of North Manchester, died Saturday, Sept. 14, 2002 at Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born March 11, 1956 at Warsaw to the late Ivory Williams and Julia (Hopkins Altman of Fort Wayne.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and 1974 graduate of Manchester High School. He was employed as a truck driver and self-employed painter for the past 12 years.
Survivors include his mother; a brother, Mike Williams of Fort Wayne and s sister, Tina Tobias of Las Vegas. NV; also several nieces and nephews. Two brothers are deceased.
Friends may call one hour prior to funeral service which is to be held Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor J. P. Freeman will officiate, and burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, IN.
DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary is in charge of arrangements and preferred memorials are to Parkview Hospital C.C.U. or the American Diabetes Association.

Richard J. Williams
Services for Richard J. Williams, 46, of Fort Wayne, and formerly of North Manchester, IN, were held Saturday afternoon, Sept. 21, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel. Pastor J. P. Freeman officiated and burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake, IN.

Raymond "Jay" Parker
Raymond "Jay" Parker, 73, rural Silver Lake, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002 at his home. He was born Nov. 14, 1928 in Seward Township, Kosciusko County, to Joseph and Bertha (Metzger) Parker. He married Dawn McIntyre June 27, 1947 in Burket; she survives.
A lifelong Kosciusko County resident, he was the owner of Jay Parker & Sons Dairy Farms, Silver Lake. He was a member of the Center United Methodist Church, Silver Lake.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Pamela Puls of Fort Wayne; three sons, Jon of Commerce, TX, and Ted and Chris Parker, both of Silver Lake; a sister, Mrs. Frank (Betty) Sanders of Claypool; seven grandchildren and one great-grandson. Two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral service was held Friday, Sept. 13 at Center United Methodist Church with Pastor Doris Smith officiating. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake.
McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel of Warsaw was in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Center United Methodist Church.

Ray H. Stensel
Ray H. Stensel, 88, a resident of Peabody Retirement Community, North Manchester, died Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Peabody Healthcare Center. He was born Sept. 11, 1914 at Kosciusko County to Otto A. and Nora (Vought) Stensel.
He was a farmer and member of he St. Paul Church of Christ, Andrews. He lived in North Manchester for the last 20 years, coming from South Whitley.
Survivors include a niece, Carol Adams of North Manchester, and a nephew, Thomas Stensel of Warsaw. Three brothers and a sister p receded him in death.
Funeral service was held Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at Grandstaff-Hentgen Bender Chapel with the Rev. Kurt Church officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, located at Andrews, IN.
Preferred memorials are to the Alzheimers and Related Diseases Association. The memorial guestbook for Ray can be signed on-line at grandstaff-hentgen.com.

Helen I. Carpenter
Services for Helen I. Carpenter, 72, of rural Roann, IN, were held Sunday afternoon, Sept. 8, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel. Rev. Andy Trowbridge and Pastor Mark Mowery officiated, and Kathleen Morris presided at the organ. Vocal music was rendered by Veta Holle.
Burial was at Lakeview Cemetery, Silver Lake. Pallbearers were Michael Ruckman, Mick Ruckman, Pat Brewbaker, David Saner, Lamont Allen, and Nathan Reider.

Beverly J. Dazey
Services for Beverly J. Dazey, 60, of rural Roann, were held Saturday, Sept. 7, 2002 at the Congregational Christian Church of North Manchester. Officiating were Pastor J . P. Freeman and Lee Tankersly. Trixy Dazey read a poem and vocalists were Todd Dazey and Jennifer Hapner.
Burial was in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Pallbearers were Jim Stonebocker, Aaron Yeoman, Ty Anderson, George Martin, Dave Newpert, Jerry Snowberger, Tom Cunningham, and Scott Smith. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary North Manchester Chapel.

David L. Howard
Services for David L. Howard, 23, of Liberty Mills, IN were held Friday afternoon, Sept. 6, 2002, at Trinity Faith Ministries, Pierceton, IN. Pastors Rick Johnson, Hager Tolson and Chris Schipper officiated. Special music was given by Rosemary Tolson, Jamy and Reba Gregory.
Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Servia, IN. Serving as pallbearers were Bobby Davis, Kenny Stout, Brad Simcoe, Eric Simcoe, Travis Howard, and Heath Simcoe. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel.

Rev. Mervin A. Cripe
Services for Rev. Mervin A. Cripe, 83, a resident of Timbercrest Retirement Community, North Manchester, IN were held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2002 at Timbercrest Chapel.
Rev. Gordon Bucher, assisted by Darlene Bucher, officiated. Helene Snider presided at the organ, and vocal music was provided by Joe and Dorotha Fry Mason.
Burial was in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, rural Silver Lake, IN. Arrangements were by DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel.

Loran A. Burton
Loran A. Burton, 87, of Cromwell, IN, died Monday, Sept. 16, 2002 at the home of his stepdaughter in Goshen. He had been ill since June.
Mr. Burton was born Nov. 15, 1914 in Wabash County, IN to Charles and Louise (Yentes) Burton; he had lived in rural Cromwell for 39 years. He married Ruby Ferverda (Teeter) on Feb. 9, 1964; she died in 1992.
In addition to being a farmer, he had worked as a supervisor for Chamberlain Products in South Whitley. He also had been a maintenance electrician at Andersen Boling of Goshen, and at Monsanto of Ligonier, from where he retired in 1981. He had raised peacocks and Arabian horses. His passion was farming and John Deere implements. He had served in the U.S. Army Auxiliary Police from 1943 to 1944.
Survivors include sons and daughter-in-law Phil and Nancy Burton of Cromwell and Mike Burton of Andrews; stepdaughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Roger Bayak of Goshen; daughter-in-law, Patricia Burton of Fort Wayne; brother and sister-in-law Arthur and Mary Burton of Roanoke; brother-in-law Jim Metzger of North Manchester; sister Violet Wolf of Roanoke; sister-in-law Janice Teeter of Warsaw; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren; good friends Phil Tom and Sarah Richcreek of Larwill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby; a son, Ronald; a daughter, Sandra Kay Burton; and four brothers - Wilbur, Harold, Carl and Russell.
Funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 19, 2002 at Ulrey-Renner Funeral Home of Ligonier with Rev. Rick Frahm officiating. Burial was in Pleasant Hill Cemetery of North Manchester.
Preferred memorials are to Goshen Hospice & Home Health Care.

Carl L. Gerber
Carl L. Gerber, 57, of 7858 W. River Road, Roann, IN, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2002 at his residence. He was born August 26, 1945 at Kendallville, IN to Kenneth and Anna Mae (Boyd) Gerber. He married Janet Black Dec. 31, 1997, and she survives.
He was an employee of Invensy Controls, North Manchester for 36 years, and attended Wabash Nazarene Church. He was a former member of the North Manchester Fire Department, after serving for 21 years. He was also a former member of the Moose Lodge and Eagles Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Kenny Gerber of North Manchester and Leslie Gerber of Lebanon, IN; two step sons - Robert Votaw of Vermont and Christopher White of Howe, IN; daughters Carla Lester of Rochester, IN and Michelle Gerber of Ohio; brothers Roger Gerber of Warsaw and Kenneth L. Gerber of Jonesboro, AR; a step brother, Phillip Hollingsworth of Fort Wayne; and nine grandchildren. A step son, Arthur White, died in 1999.
Funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 18, 2002 at DeLaughter-McKee Mortuary, North Manchester Chapel with Pastors Kevin Stirratt and J. P . Freeman officiating. Burial was in Friends Cemetery of Wabash.
Preferred memorials are to the Wabash County Cancer Society.

Frank H. Arven
Frank Howard Arven, 84, of 728 E. South St., Marion, IN, and formerly of LaFontaine, IN, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2002 at VA Northern Indiana Health Care of Marion. He was born Aug. 15, 1918 in Green Township, IN to Fred W. and Bertha E. (Dodt) Arven.
He was retired from Dorais Chevrolet of Wabash where he was employed as a mechanic for 40 years. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, having served in the Philippines. He was a life member of American Legion, Moose Lodge and Advents of Wabash. He was an avid Cubs fan, and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two sons - Sim (Lynn) Arven of Van Buren, IN and Lee Arven of Marion; daughters Mrs. Ken (Janet) Marshall and Mrs. Marty (Janice) Henchon, both of Marion, IN, Mrs. Pete (Marsha) Snell of North Manchester; Cherie May of Akron, IN and Jolene Hewitt of Andrews, IN; two sisters, Mrs. John (Wilma) Guenin of LaFontaine, IN and Helen Wycoff of Wabash, IN; a special friend, Tracy Charette of Gas City, IN; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Four sisters preceded him in death.
Graveside service only will be held Wednesday, Nov. 20, at LaFontaine IOU Cemetery with Pastor J. P. Freeman officiating.
McDonnell Funeral Home, LaFontaine Chapel, 104 S. Main St. LaFontaine, is in charge of arrangements. Preferred memorials are to Grant County Cancer Society, c/o McDonnell Funeral Home.
