Deth Kenekham
Date: 2005-05-10
Deth Kenekham, age 65, of Richmond, died Tuesday morning (May 10, 2005) at his residence. He was born in Laos on October 14, 1939. He served as a translator and airborne instructor for the United States in Laos and he arrived in the United States with his wife and 3 children and an American born child with the aid of the Presbyterian Church. The family in particulary grateful to the Hogan, Gilmore and Jose families for helping with this transition. He was a retired employee of National Trux and Parts of Tampa and he was a member of Saint Andrew Church.
Survivors include – His wife – Bounhom Kenekham with whom he celebrated 36 years of marriage on May 6th.

4 Grandchildren – Taylor, Aaliyah, Kaylynn and Kiley who were a very special part of his life.
A prayer service will be held at 9:30 am on Saturday (May 14, 2005) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Saint Andrew Church. Burial will be in Saint Mary Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (May 13, 2005) from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.
Marjorie L. Slentz

Marjorie L. Slentz was surrounded by the love of her family when she was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday May 15, 2005. She was born in Bluffton, Indiana to Fred and Mary Rickle Bennett on August 7, 1923. She married Paul Slentz on October 4, 1941 and moved to Richmond while he was serving in the army during World War II
Marjorie worked as an aide in preschool and physical therapy at Green Acres School and retired from there in 1980 to become a full-time grandma (lovingly known as Nan). She was named Mother of the Year in 1987 by The Graphic Newspaper and enjoyed spending time with friends and family. She was a member of First Baptist Church and SWAC.
Marjorie’s love and passion for Christ was seen in every aspect of her life, and He used her to touch many souls. Unselfish in everything that she did, she constantly put others’ needs ahead of her own. Marjorie lit up the world around her with kindness, compassion and love for family, friends, and strangers alike.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, Ada Penrod, of Bluffton, Indiana and brother, Maurice Baumgartner of Ashley, Indiana.
She is survived by – Daughter and Son-in-Law – Penny and Earl Schenck of Richmond
Granddaughters – Abby and Erin Schenck
Twin Sister – Mary Baker of Richmond

A celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday (May 19, 2005) in First Baptist Church, 1601 South “A” Street with Rev. James Spon and Rev. Phil Hodgkin officiating. Interment will be in Earlham Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday (May 18, 2005) from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Reid Hospital Foundation for Pediatric Physical Therapy, 1401 Chester Blvd. Richmond, IN 47374 or the Athletes in Action (a branch of Campus Crusade for Christ) in care of Wayne Teacher’s Federal Credit Union, 3010 West Main Street, Richmond, IN 47374.
Karl W. Cates

Karl W. Cates, age 79, of Richmond, died Sunday morning (5/15) at Oakridge Rehab and Specialty Care. He was born in Wayne County on August 31, 1925 to Harold and Opal Fowble Cates Runkle and had lived her all of his life. He attended Milton school and was a retired livestock buyer for Producers Live Stock where he had worked for 52 years. His wife of 54 years, Roberta “Bobbie” Cates, died July 31, 1998.

Sisters – Mary Baney of Muncie, Indiana
Betty Huber of Muncie, Indiana
Step-brothers – Albert Runkle of New Westville, Ohio
Richard Runkle of Centerville, Indiana
Step-sister – Mattie Bowman of Winchester, Indiana
3 half-brothers and 3 half-sisters all of Salt Lake City, Utah
And very special friends at Interfaith Apartments
A son, David H. Cates, died July 20, 2000.

Chanse M. Lanman

Chanse M. Lanman, 23 months old, of New Paris, died Wednesday (May 18, 2005) at the Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. He was born in Richmond on June 3, 2003 to William A. and Amanda Simpson Lanman.

Myer G. Shank

Myer G. Shank, age 84, of Richmond, died Saturday afternoon (May 21, 2005) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Farmland, Indiana on August 16, 1920 to Wallace T. and Sarah B. Grove Shank . He grew up and lived in the Randolph/Wayne County area and lived in California from 1970 – 1983 before moving back to this area. He was a US Army veteran of World War II having served in the South Pacific. He had worked at Wayne Works and he was a very active member of Central Baptist Church having served as trustee for several years. His first wife, Margaret V. Gibbons, whom he married on April 12, 1941, died on April 8, 2004. His second wife, Dorothy Newton Lawson. whom he married on February 8, 1969, died on March 8, 1985.
Survivors include – Wife – Mary Shank whom he married February 14, 1986

Services will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday (May 24, 2005) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Sam Smith, Rev. Paul Large and Rev. Lester Maples will officiate. Burial will be in Crown Hill Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Veteran’s Council. Friends may call on Monday (May 23, 2005) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home.
Ruth C. Lehman

Ruth C. Lehman, age 91, of Richmond, died Tuesday (May 31, 2005) at Heritage House of Richmond. She was born in Richmond on August 14, 1913 to Oscar and Lena Klute Nolte and had lived here all of her life. Ruth was a great mother and devoted her married life to her children; those who knew her always remarked about her ability to cook and bake. Her first love was family and a close second was her church. She was a life-long member of Saint John Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed playing bridge and took great pride in her work as a cook at the YMCA for the Y’s Men’s Club and at Test Junior High School. Her husband, Verl Lehman, died on January 19, 1987.

Robert A Osborn
Date: 2005-07-08
Robert A. Osborn, of Richmond, died unexpectedly on Friday morning (July 8, 2005) shortly after arrival at Reid Hospital. He was born in Richmond on March 15, 1929 and had lived here all of his life and was a graduate of Richmond High School. He was a US Army veteran of the Korean War and had worked as a tool and die maker retiring from General Dynamics Corp. Bob enjoyed playing golf and he was an avid car racing fan. He was a member of Holy Family Church.
Survivors include – Wife – Helen Osborn to whom he would have been married 54 years on August 16th.

Florence M. Talbot
Date: 2005-07-14
Florence M. Talbot, age 86, of Richmond, died Thursday (July 14, 2005) at her home. She was born in Manhattan, Kansas on August 14, 1918, the daughter of Edgar and Eva Barnes Hammett, she was a graduate of Kansas State College and had taught home economics in Horton, Kansas and in Springfield, Ohio. Florence retired in 1983 after being a family partner and operator of Melody Skateland, which was built in 1950, and then The Skate, which was built in 1980. She was a former 50 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church and was currently a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. Florence was a life member of The Girl Scouts of America and served Treaty Line Council of Girl Scouts for over 35 years in many capacities. In her retirement, Florence was active in the American Association of University Women, Petal & Stem Garden Club, R.O.S.E Embroidery Guild, the Wayne County Home Extension Club, the Richmond Rose Garden and the local AARP.
She is survived by her husband – Fred S. Talbot (to whom she was married 63 years)

Friends may call on Monday (July 18, 2005) from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to Treaty Line Council of Girl Scouts, 1800 South “L” Street, Richmond, IN 47374 or to Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church.
