Helen L. Holthouse
Helen L. Holthouse, age 96, of Richmond, died Tuesday (March 2, 2004) at Friends Fellowship Community. She was born in New Madison, Ohio on April 30, 1907, to William L. and Elvira Jane Thompson Thomas and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a graduate of New Madison High School and a 1928 graduate of Earlham College. She taught school in Ohio and Indiana. She was a past president of the Richmond Women’s Club and had served two terms as president of the Richmond Garden Club. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Wayne County Mental Health Association for many years and had served as a volunteer at the Richmond State Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of Saint Andrew Church. Her husband, G. Howard Holthouse, died on September 19, 1993.
Survivors include – Daughters – Sister Jeanine Marie Holthouse of Cincinnati, Ohio
Kathleen (husband John) Kutter of Richmond
Sons – Thomas (wife Joy) Holthouse of Richmond
Ronald (wife Regina) Holthouse of Richmond

A sister and six brothers are also deceased.
A prayer service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday (March 6, 2004) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary followed by Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in Saint Andrew Church. Burial will be in Saint Andrew Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday (March 5, 2004) from 5:00 – 8:00 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Seton Catholic High School, 240 South 6th Street, Richmond, IN 47374.

Dorothy M. Cory
Dorothy M. Cory, age 81, passed away Sunday (February 29. 2004) in Richmond after a long illness. She was born in Muncie in 1923 and graduated from Burris High School where she was a cast member in the senior play. Mrs. Cory was married to James H. Cory for 52 years before he died unexpectedly in 1995. Her parents, Gladys Clark Minnich and Louis Minnich, as well as her two brothers, Lewis Friddle and Jerry Minnich, are also deceased. . She worked for three years at Warner Gear in Muncie, and four years at Merchant’s Trust Company of Muncie.
Dorothy “Dottie” Cory was involved in many activities in Muncie. Several of them were connected to her outstanding musical abilities. Her piano and organ playing entitled her to be a soloist as well as an accompanist for the Honorary Music Sorority and the American Guild of Organists. She was a past president of Matinee Musicale, substitute organist at the family’s church, High Street United Methodist, and other area churches. She accompanied the High Street U.M. youth choirs and the Muncie Central High School’s Concert Choir during its singing of “The Messiah.”
The Corys were members of the Elks Club and Westbrook Country Club where she scored a “hole-in-one,” in 1976. Besides her golfing ability, she was also an excellent bowler and earned many trophies. Her volunteer work in Meals on Wheels and Sigma Alpha Iota Sorority earned her more awards. By a careful tracing of her ancestry, she became a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mr. and Mrs. Cory lived in Muncie until 1977 when they moved to Richmond, Indiana, where Mr. Cory was employed by Richmond Electric. As Dorothy said of herself, “When we first came to Richmond, I didn’t know a lot of people, so I joined about everything I was asked into. Consequently, I got in almost over my head.” Her accomplished musicianship landed her many situations in which to play. She accompanied the I.U. East Community Chorus, the Masonic Men’s Glee Club, and was pianist for the Richmond Civic Theater’s performance of “Guys and Dolls.” For several years, she was staff accompanist at the vocal studio of Marjorie Johnstone.
In Richmond, as in Muncie, she was substitute organist at area churches and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She also bowled, golfed, joined a literary club, Criterion Club, three bridge clubs, and a music study group. Besides being a member of the Elks, she joined Women of Moose, Eagles, and D.A.R. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels and even composed a song for the organization to honor award recipients, including herself.
She loved entertaining at home and would make up poems for the invitation cards. Dorothy Cory was a role model for younger people. She was one of the most gifted persons of her contemporaries. At four years old, she began taking piano lessons, and continued playing until a massive stroke she suffered in late 1998.
Her son, James Andrew Cory, of Shreveport, LA, and daughter, Molly Williams, or Marietta, GA, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and several nieces and nephews, survive her.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday (March 5, 2004) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary (Richmond) Rev. Clyde Hylton will officiate. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery (Muncie). Friends may call on Thursday (March 4, 2004) from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1401 Chester Blvd. Richmond, IN 47374

Brooklyn Renee Haskett
Brooklyn Renee Haskett, infant daughter of Nancy Pine and Eric Haskett of Richmond, died Sunday (March 7, 2004) at Reid Hospital.
In addition to the parents, she is survived by:
Maternal Grandparents – Terry and Nancy Pierson of Richmond
Paternal Grandparents – Chris and Karen Miller of Richmond
Public graveside services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday (March 12, 2004) in Economy Cemetery. There will be no public calling. Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary is in charge of arrangements

Margaret A. Gaddis
Margaret A. “Peg” Gaddis, age 88 of Richmond, died Wednesday morning (March 10, 2004) at Friends Fellowship Community. She was born in Ohio on December 20, 1915 to David and Wanda Pentz Byers and had lived here most of her life. She was a retired employee of National Automatic Tool Company and was a life-long member of First Christian Church.
Survivors include: Daughter – Linda (husband Michael) Charman of Muncie
Grandsons – Steven (wife Jama) Gaddis of Muncie
Scott (wife Gina) Gaddis of Superior, Colorado
Andrew (wife Amie) Gaddis of Fishers, Indiana
Step-son – Bill Gaddis of Muncie
Step-granddaughter – Sue Ellen (husband Harry) Stewart of Londonderry, New Hampshire
Eight Great Grandchildren – Matthew Gaddis, Garrett Gaddis, Brandon Gaddis, Ayden Gaddis, twins Elleana and Isabella Gaddis, Elizabeth Stewart and Andrew Stewart
Niece – Barbara (husband Floyd) Blanton
Nephew – Dale (wife Anita) Winters
Several great nieces & nephews including Brad (wife Elaine) & Brian Crowder and David Winters
Her parents, her husband, Garrett Gaddis, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Winters Crowder, are also deceased.
A public service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday (March 13, 2004) in Earlham Mausoleum. Rev. Jim Miller and Rev. Dixie Miller will officiate. There will be no public calling. Memorial contributions may be made to the Make a Wish Foundation of Indiana, 5532 West Raymond Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46241-4305 or to a favorite charity. Arrangements are being handled by Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary.

Kenneth P. Corman
Kenneth P. Corman, age 74, of Richmond, died Saturday evening (March 13, 2004) at his home after an extended illness. He was born on October 25, 1929 in Richmond to Robert and Bessie Corman and had lived here all of his life. He worked at Natco for 40 years and then worked for Midway Manufacturing Company. He had also worked at Kroger and retired from Wal-Mart in 2000. He was a member of New Life Tabernacle and was a former member of Calvary United Pentecostal Church. He was a Kentucky Colonel and was a member of the Natco 25 Year Club. He was a former member of Whitewater Lodge #41 IOOF. Kenny had devoted his life to God and serving Him for over 35 years in ministering to those in nursing homes; he held services at Oakridge, Golden Rule, Cherish and Heritage House nursing centers, He also loved singing the Gospel and sang at many churches, gospel songfests and restaurants. He wrote gospel songs for over 50 years and he loved to travel and spend time with his family
Survivors include – Wife – Evelyn Corman whom he married June 20, 1948

Joan Markey
Joan Markey, age 76, of Richmond, died Thursday (March 25, 2004) at Reid Hospital. She was born on March 18, 1928 in New Paris, Ohio to Ross and Agnes Kuth Markey and had lived in this area all of her life. She was a graduate of Richmond High School and was a retired employee of Purina Mills where she had worked for over 40 years. She was a member of Saint Mary Church.
Survivors include – Sister – Mary Powers of Richmond
Nieces & Nephews
A sister, Martha Markey, and three brothers, Pierce, Cleatus and Jonas Markey, are also deceased.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Monday (March 29, 2004) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Burial will be in Spring Lawn Cemetery in New Paris, Ohio. Friends may call on Monday (March 29, 2004) from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the funeral home.

E. Dwight Sparks
E. Dwight Sparks, age 57, of Richmond, died unexpectedly Thursday evening (April 1, 2004) at Reid Hospital. He was born in Berea, Kentucky on January 29, 1947 to Earl L. and Allie Mae Murphy Sparks and had lived in the Webster-Richmond area most of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of Richmond High School and was a Viet Nam era veteran of the US Air Force. He was a member of American Legion Post 315, Richmond Lodge #196 F & AM and the National Rifle Association. He was a well known musician having played in local bands for many years. He was an employee of Schrock Cabinets. His wife, Sharon L. Sparks, died on March 16, 2004 and his father, Earl L. Sparks died on August 27, 2002
Survivors include – Daughters – Terri Rich of Centerville, Indiana
Donna Long of Fountain City, Indiana
Son – Jim Sparks of Webster, Indiana
Mother – Allie Mae Sparks of Richmond
Sister – Janie McEwen of Richmond
Brother – Danny Sparks of Richmond

Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday (April 5, 2004) in Riggle – Waltermann Mortuary. Rev. Jim Guard will officiate. Burial will be in Goshen Cemetery where military graveside services will be conducted by the Wayne County Veterans Council. Friends may call on Sunday (April 4, 2004) from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the funeral home where Richmond Lodge #196 F & AM will conduct Masonic services at 7:00 pm.
