Virginia A. Ketter, 78, Roeland Park, KS passed away December 29, 2004 at her home. Mass of Christian burial will be 1 PM, Monday, January 3, 2005 at St. Agnes Catholic Church Roeland Park, KS with entombment at Resurrection Mausoleum Lenexa, KS. Friends may call from 5-7 PM,. Sunday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, with Roasry at 6 PM. Family suggests memorials to be sent to St. Agnes Catholic Church or Crossroads Hospice.
Mrs. Ketter was born August 13, 1926 in Seneca, KS to Chris and Agnes Sack. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; Bill, daughter; Barbara, sisters; Rita Schulte and Eleanor Love, brother; Raymond Sack. She is survived by her daughters; Carolyn Messbarger and husband Dick. Judy Morr and husband Dan, Joan Brown and husband Ron, Sons; David Ketter and wife Jean, Jim Ketter and wife Ann. Sisters; Kay Hedderman, Eileen Sheehan, Mary Kirkman, Sally Koehler, Millie Lierz and Joann Davis. Brothers; Bob Sack, Charles Sack, Leon Sack, 14 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Grandchildren.
BETTY IRMEN
Betty Irmen passed way in her sleep on January 31, 2005. Funeral mass will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, Feb. 5 at St. Pius X Catholic Church; burial in the Resurrection Cemetery. Friends may call from 10-11 AM, Saturday at the Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to either, St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5601 Woodson, Mission, KS 66202 or HospiceCare of Kansas, 15239 W. 95th St., Lenexa, KS 66219.
Betty was born on May 1, 1920 and grew up in the small town of Salem, Nebraska. She became an accomplished pianist at an early age and was blessed with the ability to play music by ear. She happily shared this special gift with others throughout her life, even during her final years.
Betty was valedictorian of her high school class, and after graduation attended Chillicothe Business College in Chillicothe, MO. It was there that she met the love of her life, Bill. They married on August 14, 1943, and after Bill’s service in World War II, Betty and Bill established their home in the Kansas City area. After several years of working in downtown Kansas City, Betty became a full-time mom and homemaker in Mission, KS upon the birth of her two children- Doug in 1947 and Nancy in 1950.
Betty served her community as a member and officer of her children’s PTA, her ladies Circle and Women’s Club at St. Pius X Church, as cub scout and girl scout den mother, and as piano teacher to countless children. Throughout her life, Betty’s special gift to the world was her gentle spirit, her genuine kindness and good wishes for others, and her humility. Betty never put others down to feel good about herself. She believed in each person’s essential worth and goodness, no matter their wealth or social standing. Always sharply dressed, Betty had a wonderful sense of humor, and taught her children and grandchildren the joy of laughing out loud. Even at the end, Betty couldn’t help but bring herself to share the glow of her beautiful and loving smile that her family and friends will cherish in her memory.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Martha and Arthur Klima, sister Virginia Whitney, and her beloved husband, Bill. She is survived by her daughter, Nancy and her husband Jim Schumm; her son, Doug and his wife Monique; by grandchildren Andy, Audrey and Derek Schumm, Sara Irmen and Anne Close and her husband Troy; sisters, Marjorie Weber and Bonnie Haynes; many nieces and nephews; devoted and loving staff at Mission Springs Assisted Living; and by her constant , faithful and protective companion in her final years, her cat Ebony.
MAVIS I. HUFFMAN
Mavis I. Huffman, 93, Kansas City, MO passed away, Sunday, March 13, 2005 at The Greens at Creekside Nursing Center. Mrs. Huffman was born June 19, 1912 in Pryor, OK to Robert and Bessie Hovermale. She was an avid outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed fishing and hunting with her husband Paul who preceded her in death in 1993. She is survived by three sisters; Jean Wise, Bernell Sawyer, and Bernice Lapp. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Graveside Services will be held 1:00 PM, Tuesday, March 15, 2005 at Johnson County Memorial Gardens. Family suggest memorial contributions be sent to Crossroads Hospice.
DELORES M. HOYTAL
Delores M. Hoytal, 83, of Shawnee, KS, died Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Funeral services 10 a.m. Saturday, January 15, at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee followed by burial in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.
Delores graduated from Wyandotte High School Class of 1940. She enjoyed reading, knitting and quilting. Delores volunteered at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center. She enjoyed her friends and activities at the Lenexa Senior Center, along with traveling. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents Irene and Roy Lenn and her husband, George Hoytal. Survivors include her sister-in-law, an aunt and several cousins. Memorial contributions are suggested to the church.
VINCENT F. (VINCE) HOEFLER, SR.
Vincent Frederick Hoefler, Sr. 80, Shawnee, KS passed away at home, Friday, June 17, 2005 due to complications he suffered from a fall this past Jan. His loving family with Sister Victoria was by his side. The funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, June 23, 2005, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, King & Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. Family & friends may call from 5:30 pm to 8 pm, Wednesday, June 22, 2005, at Amos Family Chapel, 10901 Johnson Dr., Shawnee, KS. Rosary will be said at 5:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations, in his memory, to the Sister Servants of Mary, 800 N.18th St. KCK 66102 or to the KC Hospice, 10100 W. 87th St. Suite 100, Overland Park, KS 66212.
Vincent was born at home in Westphalia, KS to Vincent Joseph and Caroline Ann (Stahl) Hoefler. He graduated from St. Theresa’s Grade School, Westphalia & Westphalia High School. Vincent married Thelma Ann Kellerman on Oct.8, 1944, at St. Theresa’s, Westphalia. After being a farm boy all his life they decided farming was not where they were to be, so they moved with their first child to Merriam, KS in 1945; then purchased a home with acreage in Shawnee and have lived at the same address since 1946. He first went to work for the Pullman Sleeper Car Service for a short time. Then for 40 yrs hauled gasoline for Phillips, to service stations and independent dealers around the Metro area. Retiring from that job he went to work for 10 yrs at Consolidated Mailing in Merriam. His health forced him to retire again.
With his busy life of working and raising 7 children, Vince always found time to pass on his knowledge and love of sports to children. For over 21 yrs, he coached CYO sports (Basketball, Football & Track) for St. Joseph Grade School, Shawnee. He was a member of the original St. Joseph Boosters Club, always lending a hand to make stadium or gymnasium repairs. He also ran the Time Clock for all the St. Joseph/Aquinas football & basketball games till the HS moved. Vince also Coach / Managed Sunrise Optimist, later to become known as 3 & 2 Baseball. Even after his own children grew out of the sport, he continued to coach/manage baseball till back surgery forced him to quit. You could always find him with a game on TV and a different one on the radio next to him. He could name a lot of the pro players with their stats and always had an opinion as to whether they should be traded or not. He truly has passed his love of sports down to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, attending the next generation games only as a spectator. Vince joined the Knights of Columbus, Shawnee, Sept. 1, 1946, becoming a Fourth Degree Knight on Feb. 8, 1971. He will be remembered for his unselfish love & devotion to family & friends; and for his devotion to the Blessed Mother, praying the rosary daily at St. Joseph Church with a group of parishioners. He also led the Rosary every 6th Sunday before the 9am Mass for many yrs.
Vince was preceded in death by his parents, 1 brother, Richard and an infant brother; 2 son-in-laws, Bob Spruk and Joe Dechant & 1 granddaughter, Cheryl Flakus. He is survived by his wife of 60 yrs, Thelma, of the home; 7 children, Mary Spruk, Shawnee, KS, Alice Dechant, Springfield, MO. Larry Jon Hatz, 61, of Overland Park Kansas passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at KU Medical Center. Funeral services will be held 11 AM Sat at The Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Friends may call from 5-7PM Friday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers family suggest memorial contributions be sent to The National Kidney Foundation.
Mr. Hatz was born August 20, 1943 to Lawrence and Peggy Hatz in Sabetha, Kansas. He is survived by his wife Carolyn of the home, one daughter; Meredith Hill and her husband Michael, two grandchildren; Madison and McKenzie Baker. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister; Kaye Jean Hartsook.

Rene Hanna, died at home in Kingston, Jamaica on Tuesday, December 21, 2004. He leaves his daughters Lisa Hanna and Ella Smith, grandsons Alexander Panton and Jamieson Smith, brothers Charles, Michael and Joe, sister Janet Suleiman, nieces, nephews, other relatives & friends.
Visitation at the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa, 10113 Lenexa Dr., from 10am - 12 noon, Friday. Graveside services will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa, KS. In lieu of flowers, donations in aide of the Stony Hill All Age School in Stony Hill, Jamaica will be collected.
