Muriel Lorane McNamar
Muriel Lorane McNamar, 84, died January 22, 1996 at Medicine
Lodge
Memorial Hospital.
She was born June 7, 1911, at Selmore, Missouri, the daughter
of Fred and Flossie Clark Gideon. A resident of the Pratt and
Medicine Lodge area for more than 50 years, she was a hair-dresser for 27 years, until her health forced her retirement.
She was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Pratt.
On February 7, 1934, she married Roy McNamer at Anthony. He
died June 20, 1962.
Survivors include: a son, Darrel, Medicine Lodge; a brother,
Glen Gideon, Wichita,; a sister, Nadine Benson, Manchester,
Oklahoma; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Thursday, January 25, 1996 in
the Greenlawn Cemetery, Pratt, with Pastor Michael Waggoner
presiding.

Elsie Corrine Pelzl
Elsie Corrine Pelzl, 89, died August 31, 2000, at Denver
Colorado.
She was born April 12, 1911, at Cherokee, Oklahoma, the
daughter of Frank and Victoria Mudd Whelan. She was a
longtime resident of the Sharon community. She was a
graduate of Sharon High School. She was a hairdresser and
a homemaker.
She belonged to St. Boniface Catholic Church, and was a
member of the Altar Society and Senior Citizens Group, all
at Sharon.
On September 7, 1932, she married Alphons 'Al' Pelzel at
Sharon. He died March 18, 1989.
Survivors include: two daughters, Pat Ridgway, Katy, Texas,
and Beverly Fiegel, Goodland; six grandchildren; and 10
great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Joe and Bob;
and a sister, Alma.
Funeral services were held Sunday, September 3, 2000, at
St. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, with Father Anthony
Suellentrop presiding. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery,
Sharon.
Vera Alta Roots
Vera Alta Roots, 80, died August 11, 1998, at Pratt Regional Medical
Center.
She was born November 4, 1917, in Barber County, the daughter of George
and Lola Williams Lytle. A Medicine Lodge resident for most of her life,
moving to Pratt in June 1994, she was a homemaker, taught school and worked
in the County Treasurer's Office, all in Barber County.
She belonged to the Assembly of God Church, Medicine Lodge.
On October 7, 1939, she married Orin Roots at Alva, Oklahoma. He died
October 1992.
Survivors include: a son, Phil, Pratt; a brother, Vernon Lytle, Durango,
Colorado; four sisters, Betty Paraday, Grand Junction, Colorado, Thelma
Dooley, Anchorge, Alabama, Wanda Conaway, Palmen, Alabama, and Nettie
Conaway, Sharon; two granddaughters; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 14, 1998, at Larrison Mortuary,
Pratt. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

mortuary.
Ethel Ricker
Ethel Ricker, 84, died January 16, 1996, at Anthony.
She was born July 18, 1911, at Kingman, the daughter of Noah
Bunyon and Mary Grace Rowell Thomas. A longtime Anthony resident,
she was a retired school kitchen supervisor.
She was a member of Central Baptist Church, Anthony.
On October 21, 1928, she married William Ponder Ricker at Sapulpa,
Oklahoma. He died July 7, 1995.
Survivors include: six sons, Francis, Douglas, Wyoming, Stanley,
Scott City, Billy, Great Bend, Gary, Eureka, Larry, ElDorado, and
John, Lake City; four daughters, Wanda Bollman, Wakita, Oklahoma,
Joyce Knutson, Littleton, Colorado, Donna Hamma, Caldwell, and Rita
Foss, Tampa, Florida; three brothers, Dan Thomas, Anthony, Elmer Thomas,
Salt Lake City, Utah, and Oliver Thomas, Jerome, Idaho; a sister, May
Crist, Hagerman, Idaho; 27 grandchildren; and 47 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 29, 1996, at Central Baptist
Church, Anthony, with Pastors Tim Ricker and Bruce Foss presiding. Burial
was in the Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony.

LaVon W. Stone
LaVon W. Stone, 87, died August 21, 1998, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial
Hospital.
She was born January 13, 1911, at Watonga, Oklahoma, the daughter of
Claude W. and Agnes E. Cotton Werner. A Medicine Lodge resident since
1948, moving from Pixley, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, taught Sunday
school for many years, was primary superintendent at Sharon Christian
Church and First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, belonged to the PEO,
the Book Club, Golden Girls, the Birthday Club, the Wednesday Afternoon
Club, Just a Matron, and was a charter member of the Central View
Extension Homemakers Unit, all of Medicine Lodge.
On December 24, 1927, she married George E. Stone at Sharon. He died
July 15, 1981.
Survivors include: a son, Dwight W. Stone, Medicine Lodge; two daughters,
Doris S. Thompson, Columbia, Missouri, and JoAnn S. Eaton, Hollis, Oklahoma,
a brother, Glenn Werner, Wichita; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 25, 1998, at First Christian
Church, Medicine Lodge, with Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial was in
Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

James Francis Thompson
James Francis Thompson, 67, died January 24, 1996 at Medicine
Lodge
Memorial Hospital.
He wa born February 14, 1928, at Madison, the son of Harry
Everett and Rosa Mae Adams Thompson. A resident of Medicine Lodge
for 17 years, moving from Plainville, he was a retired oil field
serviceman.
He was a member of Paradise Lodge No. 290, AF&AM; at Plainville
and the Isis Shrine at Salina.
On December 21, 1952, he married Pat Prickett at Simpson. She
survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, James Joseph, Medicine Lodge,
and Timothy Ray, Harrisonville, Missouri; two brothers, Ora, of
Haven, and Everett, Independence, Missouri; and eight grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 29, 1996 at Forsyth
Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Jim Godbey presiding.
There was a graveside service in Glasco Cemetery, (Cloud County),
Glasco, Kansas.

Dale Robert Wolfe
Dale Robert Wolfe, 43, died January 29, 1996, at his home
in Isabel.
He was born February 19, 1951, at Berryville, Arkansas, the
son of Merle Henry and Nina Mae Scott Wolfe. He graduated from
Sterling High School in 1969. An Isabel resident since 1986,
formerly of Sterling, he was a roof trimmer for National Gypsum,
Sun City.
He was a member of American Legion Lorraine Post No. 98, Isabel,
NRA, Ducks Unlimited and was a Barber County 4-H leader. He served
in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
On December 4, 1980, he married DeAnna J. Fenwick at Lyons. She
survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Robert, Wichita; three daughters,
Monica Gibson, Wichita; Traca Jo and Tayler Kae Wolfe, both of the
home; mother, Sterling; two brothers, Charles and Billie, both of
Sterling; and a sister, Barbara Monroe, Sterling.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 24, 1996, at United
Methodist Church, Sterling, with the Rev. James Graves presiding.
Burial was in the Sterling Community Cemetery.

Richard Otho 'Dick' Young
Richard Otho 'Dick' Young, 56, died May 9, 1998, 14 miles northwest of
Greensburg as the result of injuries sustained in a farming accident.
He was born July 28, 1941, at Protection, the son of Alva 'Cap' and
Opal Huffman Young. He was a 1959 graduate of Protection High School and
later attended Pratt Community College. A Greensburg resident since 1996,
moving from Mullinville, he was a farmer.
He belonged to the Baptist Church, Protection.
On January 27, 1962, he married Lillian Jean Colter at Coldwater. On
July 11, 1990, he married Frances Jean Moore at Greensburg. She survives.
Other survivors include: father, Protection; two sons, Conley Young,
Greensburg, and Cliffton Young, Mullinville; four stepsons, Verlyn Maas,
Holcomb, Woody Maas, Dodge City, Duane Maas, Mullinville and Tony Maas,
Greensburg; two daughters, Cindy Streid, Augusta, and Charla Johnson,
Cuba, New Mexico; a step daughter, Sheila Barnes, Lakin; two brothers,
James Young, Medicine Lodge, and Frank Young, Liberal; three sisters, Kathy
Turley, Garden City, Mable DePriest, Protection, and Sandra Moore, Mullinville;
12 grandchildren; and 15 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 13, 1998, at the Baptist Church,
Protection, with Pastor Rod Young presiding. Burial was in Protection Cemetery.

James Louis Youngers
James Louis Youngrs, 52, Kansas City, Missouri, died Saturday,
February 10, 1996, at his home, after a brave battle against
cancer.
Mr. Youngers was born on August 16, 1943, in Hardtner. He was
the son of Victor N. and Gladys (Spencer) Youngers. He grew up in
Medicine lodge, where he graduated from high school in 1961. Jim
then attended Kansas State University and graduated in 1965. Jim
was employed by The Curry Investment Company for the past 30 years,
where he was Senior Vice-President. He had been the manager of the
Antioch Shopping Center since 1969. He was a member of the Sons of
the American Revolution, National Rifle Association, and International
Council of Shopping Centers. Jime enjoyed fishing and hunting with
his sons, friends and dog, "Ralph," and skiing with his wife, Linda.
He will be missed by many friends and family who depended on his
strength, intelligence, guidance and love. He was preceded in death
by his parents.
He is survived by his wife, Linda (McClanahan) Youngers; three sons,
Mark and Christopher, of the home, James, North Carolina; one daughter,
Elisa Atwell, Gladstone, Missouri; sister and brother-in-law, Diane
and Ralph Hicks, Weston, Missouri; sister-in-law and brother-in-law,
Betty and Don Brand, Rayton, Missouri; and three nieces.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 13, at the St. Charles
Catholic Church; burial was in White Chapel
Memorial Gardens.

Clint Alan Reed
Clint Alan Reed was born October 25, 1964 and was killed in a
car accident May 21, 1999. He worked for Tru-Green Chemlawn.
He went into the Navy but because of old football injuries
he came home.
He graduated from Hutch Juco and North Western in Oklahoma.
He taught school at Attica, Turon and Schulte.
He leaves to moren his wife Lori, son Ben and daughter MacKenzie; parents Butch and Deana Pelzl and Gary and Rosemary
Reed; sisters, Tracy and Jeff Schmidt, Bobbie, Brent and Brandi
Waterhouse; lots of cousins; grandparents Ruth and Dean
McLemore; many aunts, uncles, great-aunts and uncles; and so,
so many friends.
Preceding him in death was Datha his baby sister, grandma
and grandpa Reed, grandma and grandpa Peirson, grandma and
grandpa Pelzl, great-grandma and grandpa McLemore.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 24, 1999, at the
First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with Rev. Tom Walters
presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
Clint loved life and never knew a stranger.
Virgil Richard Bryan
Virgil Richard Bryan, 83, died October 21, 1995, at Medicine
Lodge.
He was born March 20, 1912, at Bavaria, the son of James
Clarence and Alice Anna Fultz Bryan. A longtime Medicine Lodge
resident, he was a self-employed petroleum marketer.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge.
On December 24, 1937, he married Twilla Marie Huitt at
Talmage. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Jerry and Steve, both of
Medicine Lodge; a brother, Ray, Ames, Iowa; four grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, October 24, 1995, at
United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Jim
Godbey and Pastor Jeff Ropp presiding. Burial was in the Highland
Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Margaret Good Brown
Margaret Good Brown, 83, died October 20, 1995, at Kiowa
District Hospital.
She was born June 15, 1912, in Barber County, the daughter
of Samuel E. and Maggie L. Littell Good. A lifetime Barber
County resident, she was an elementary school teacher,
librarian and homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church and the
Order of Eastern Star, both at Kiowa.
On August 1, 1970, she married Charles E. Brown at Lake
Tahoe, Nevada. He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Bruce Alberding, Lyons,
and Keith Alberding, Lawrence; a daughter, Gayle Jackson,
Newton; a sister, Willa Burgess, Kiowa; five grandchildren;
and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held, Monday, October 25, 1995, at
the United Methodist Church, Kiowa, with the Rev. R. Laney
Kuhn and Lew Van Der Wege presiding. Burial was in Riverview
Cemetery, Kiowa.

Jon Rule Stone
Jon Rule Stone, 64, died October 22, 1995, at Pratt.
He was born May 30, 1931, at rural Medicine Lodge, the son
of Clarence and Juanita Rule Stone. A longtime Medicine Lodge
resident, he was a farmer.
Survivors include: a sister, June Donovan, Medicine Lodge;
and two nephews, Mike Donovan, Medicine Lodge, and Gary Donovan,
Wichita.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, October 24, 1995, in
Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Jim Godbey

Sylvia Strait
Sylvia Strait, 87, died October 21, 1995, at Cedar Crest
Manor, Medicine Lodge.
She was born March 2, 1908, in rural Pratt County, the
daughter of Green and Theresa Vogal Strait. A lifetime
resident of the area, she was a nurse aide.
Survivors include: a brother, Marvin Strait, Medicine
Lodge; and one niece.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 2, 1995,
at the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with the
Rev. Jim Godbey presiding. Burial was in the Coats Cemetery.
Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, was in charge of

Dwaine Estelle Shinliver
Dwaine Estelle Shinliver, 74, died November 28, 1995, at Medicine
Lodge
Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 4, 1921, at Isabel, the son of Estelle C. and
Elsie J. Smith Shinliver. A Sharon resident for 42 years, he was a
retired oil-field worker and farmer. He graduated from Zenda High
School in 1941 then served in the Army Air Corp during World War
II in the European Theatre. His plane was shot down on his 48th
mission over Italy. He was decorated with a Purple Heart.
He was a member of the American Legion, Sharon, and the Methodist
Church, Zenda.
On March 16, 1946, he married Thelma Jean Mease at Pratt. She
survives.
Other survivors include: five sons, Dennis D., Wellington, Gary
W., Wichita, Greg R. and Danny L., both of Medicine Lodge, and Randy
S., Belle Plaine; two daughters, Sanka J. Old, Holt Summit, Missouri,
and Cheryl J. Donelan, Wichita; a sister, Charlene Kennedy, Sawyer;
20 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and
three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 1, 1995, at Forsyth
Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Floyd Turner and Pastor
Mark Henderson presiding. Burial was in the Liberty Cemetery, Nashville,
Kansas.

C.A. 'Buster' Hathaway
C.A. 'Buster' Hathaway, 77, died March 8, 1996, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital.
He was born March 1, 1919, at Yma, Colorado, the son of Charles A.
and Dora Belle West Hathaway.
A resident of Sun City for more than 50 years, he was owner and
operator of Buster and Alma's Tavern at Sun City.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, a member of the Pratt
Elks Lodge and a life member of the VFW at Medicine Lodge.
On July 4, 1941, he married Alma Ward at Coldwater. She died July
5, 1991.
Survivors include: a son, Steve, Las Vegas, Nevada; a sister, Almeta
Tanner, Yuma, Colorado; a sister-in-law, Helen Axtell, Pratt; and
three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 11, 1996, at Ayres-Calbeck
Mortuary, Pratt, with the Rev. Jeff Woods presiding. Burial was in
Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City.

Bessie H. Hewitt
Bessie H. Hewitt, 89, died October 30, 1995, at Cedar Crest
Manor, Medicine Lodge.
She was born October 25, 1906 in Barber County, the daughter
of Jacob Benjamin and Mary Gronemier Harbaugh. A longtime
resident of the area, she was a homemaker. She was a graduate
of Medicine Lodge High School.
She was a member of PEO, the United Methodist Church, Just a
Matron, and Lorraine Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, all
at Medicine Lodge.
On December 7, 1932, she married I.N. 'Jibo' Hewitt in Wichita.
He died September 3, 1970.
Survivors include: two daughters, Dorothy A. Parker, and husband
Gary of Medicine Lodge, and Marily Hensley of Branson, Missouri;
four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 2, 1995, at the
United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jim Godbey and Pastor Jeff
Rop presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
Tim Clark
Tim Clark, age 14, of 230 Summit, Manhattan, died March 14, 1996
at his residence following a short illness.
He was born Ocober 27, 1981 in Manhattan, the son of Richard W.
and Janis L. Fritz Clark, and had been a liftime Manhattan resident.
Tim attended Eugene Field Grade School and was currently in eighth
grade at Manhattan Middle School. He was a very good student and was
on the honor roll.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, was an avid
comic book collector and enjoyed playing Nintendo.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and Janis Clark of the home;
one sister, Whitney D. Clark of the home; grandparents, Barbara Clark
of Clay Center, George and Dorothy Fritz of Medicine Lodge; and three
aunts, three uncles and six cousins.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 18, 196, at the First
United Methodist Church in Manhattan with Reverends Omer Tittle and
Frank Pritz officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Cemetery
in Manhattan.

Leonard Isaac Campbell
Leonard Isaac Campbell, 80, died April 18, 1996, at Wheatlands
Health Care Center, Kingman.
He was born February 2, 1916, at Basil, the son of Luther and
Willma Madison Campbell. A lifetime Kingman County resident, he
was a retired farmer.
He was a member of Kingman Christian Church where he had served
as a deacon.
On November 2, 1939, he married Margaret Lavelle Byers at Anthony.
She survives.

a sister, Mary Weve, Rago; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 22, 1996, at Livingston
Funeral Home, Kingman, with the Rev. Matt Keith presiding. Burial
was in Hunt Cemetery, near Rago.

Dillian McFarland Zimmerman
Dillian McFarland Zimmerman, 80, died April 21, 1996, at
Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
He was born June 3, 1915, at Macksville, the son of Thomas I.
and Marjorie Rothrock Zimmerman. A lifetime St. John resident,
he was a printer-photographer for St. John Newspaper.
He was a member of United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 7519 and American Legion, all of St. John. He served
in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a printer first class.
On December 21, 1941, he married Velma Ruth Siegrist at Waukegan,
Illinois. She survives.
Other survivors include: four sons, Mac and Jan, both of St. John,
Tom, Ames, Iowa, and Rex, Kiowa; two daughters, Judi Rice, Hutchinson,
and Julie Fox, St. John; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 24, 1996, at Minnis
Chapel, St. John, with the Rev. W. Harlan Rittgers presiding. Burial
will be in the Fairview Park Cemetery, St. John.

Hazel G. Miller
Hazel G. Miller, 98, died April 20, 1996, at Friendship
Manor, Anthony.
She was born July 31, 1897, at Bronson, the daughter of
Jonathan and Florence Beaman Burkey. A Harper resident since
1986, moving from Kiowa, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church, Harper.
On November 15, 1919, she married Clayton Robb. On September
12, 1945, she married Willialm Miller. He died in 1980.
Survivors include two daughters, Neva Parker, Harper, and
Helen Headbert, Wellington, Florida; two step-daughters,
Virginia Rathgeber, Kiowa, and Willa Parscal, Denver, Colorado;
a sister, Johnnie Williamson, Wichita; three grandchildren, six
step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; 10 step-great-grandchildren; and four-great-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Monday, April 22, 1996, in the
Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa, with the Rev. Laney Kuhn presiding.

Glenn Alma McGee
Glenn Alma McGee, 73, died December 15, 1995, at Hiltop Manor,
Cunningham.
He was born February 8, 1922, at Kirtland, New Mexico, the son
of Ulysses Smith and Matilda Palmer McGee. A forty-year resident
of Medicine Lodge. He was a plumber, a farmer and an employee of
Gold Bond.
He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day
Saints at Pratt, and the VFW at Medicine Lodge. He was a U.S.
Coast Guard veteran of World War II.
On November 29, 1945, he married Leota Faye Toellner at Los
Angeles. She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Ronald Eugene, Apache
Junction, Arizona, and Roger Dean, Medicine Lodge; a daughter,
Glenda Kay Mackey, Broken Bow, Nebraska; two brothers, Wayne
McGee, Hesperus, Colorado, and LeRoy McGee, Salt Lake City, Utah;
a sister, Bertha Hunt, Bayfield, Colorado; seven grandchildren;
and one great-grandchild.
Graveside services were held in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge,
Monday, December 18, 1995, with President Kim Booth presiding.

Grace A. Buchanan
Grace A. Buchanan, 88, died April 15, 1996, in Wichita.
She was born January 25, 1908, to James B. and Alice V.
Horton Winters, at Lake City.
She lived with her family at Hardtner Phillip Pumping
station until 1947, the her husband was transfered to
Cheney. She also lived in Medicine Lodge, and Cassody,
before retiring to Cheney. She was a housewife.
She belonged to the Cheney Methodist Church and lived
at the Golden Age Home at Chaney.
On January 18, 1929, she married Roy O. Buchanan at Pratt.
He preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Kenneth Jerry Buchanan, Searcy,
Arkansas, and Roy Robert Buchanan, Cheney; one brother Robert
Winters, Burns Flat, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Kendall Lee
and Steven Wayne Buchanan, Searcy, Arkansas, and James Roy and
Holly Mae Buchanan, Cheney; and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 18, 1996, at the
United Methodist Church in Cheney, with Pastors Terry McGuire
and Bob Simison officiating. Burial was in Pioneer Cemetery,
Cheney.
Memorials may be sent to the Cheney United Methodist Church,
Cheney. Wulf-Ast Mortuary, Garden Plain, was in charge of
arrangements.
Dan Deryl Blunk
Dan Deryl Blunk, 70, died December 8, 1995, at his home.
He was born July 24, 1925, at Hardtner, the son of John Glenn
and Rena Brundridge Blunk. He attended Hardtner High School. A
lifelong Hardtner resident, he was a farmer and rancher.
On September 26, 1952, he married Rose Marie Kline at Alve,
Oklahoma. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Dr. Jim Blunk, Caldwell; a
daughter, Dr. Katie Blunk, Reno, Nevada; a sister, Val Johnson,
Hutchinson; a grandson, Logan Daniel Blunk; and a step-granddaughter, Stacy Volavka.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 11, 1995, at the
United Methodist Church, Hardtner, with the Rev. Lew Van Der
Wege presiding. Burial was in the Hardtner Cemetery.

Jessie M. Jackson
Jessie E. Jackson, 95, died April 13, 1996, at her home in
LaHarpe.
She was born January 1, 1901, near Weir, Kansas, to Philander
and Artie Mississippi Devine Hollister. At the age of eight, she
moved from near Miami, Oklahoma, to Medicine Lodge, by covered
wagon.
Jessie moved to southeast Kansas in the spring of 1948. For a
time she was a waitress at the LaHarpe Cafe. Later, she kept
elderly ladies in her home.
She was a member of the LaHarpe Christian Church where she had
taught Sunday school for a number of years. She was also a member
of the Amber Quilting Club and Helping Hands Quilting club.
On December 28, 1921, she married John Ervin Jackson at Spivey.
They made their home near Medicine Lodge on a farm. He died July
8, 1941.
Survivors include: a son, John Jackson, Fort Scott; two daughters,
Shirley Ludlum, Elsmore, and Lila Ludlum, Elsmore; 13 grandchildren;
20 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 17, 1996, at LaHarpe
Christian Church with Rev. Bill Bolden and Marshall Masser presiding.
Burial was in LaHarpe Cemetery, LaHarpe.
