Matthew Lane Jantz
Matthew Lane Jants, 23, died June 29, 2000, at Providence
Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas.
He was born January 27, 1977, at Pratt, the son of Bob and
Doris Tholl Jantz. A lifetime resident of Pratt and Medicine
Lodge, he was an electrician student.
Survivors include: his father, Lawrence, and his mother and
stepfather, Doris and George Sharp, Pratt; a sister, Marsha
Christie, Pratt; a stepsister, Sara Sharp, Pratt; and grandmother, Wyvetta Tholl, Peabody.
He was preceded in death by a half-brother, Mark Davis.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 5, 2000, at
Larrison Mortuary, Pratt, with Larry Paasch presiding. Burial
was in Nashville, Kansas, Cemetery.

Neola O. Merscham
Neola O. Merscham, 85, died December 9, 1995, at Cedar Crest
Manor, Medicine Lodge.
She was born December 26, 1909, at Manhattan, the daughter of
Albert and Mary Gruenwald Britschge. A Medicine Lodge resident
for 21 years, she was a homemaker and a partner in the family
farm and appliance dealership.
She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, Medicine
Lode.
On August 26, 1940, she married Glenn C. Merscham at Eskridge.
He died December 11, 1990.
Survivors include: a brother, Melvin Britschge, Burlingame;
two sisters, Alberta Vandeveer, Medicine Lodge, and Thelma Hoffman,
Derby; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews.
Graveside services were held December 11, 1995, in the Highland
Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with Father Anthony Suellentrop presiding.

Wilda Alberta Mathews
Wilda Alberta Mathews, 69, died November 30, 1995, at Apostolic
Christian Home, Sabetha.
She was born September 8, 1926, at Anthony, the daughter of
William 'Toss' Albert and Rosie Alberta Tewell McReynolds. She was
a graduate of Hazelton High School and a graduate of Southwestern
University, Winfield. A lifetime Sharon resident, she was a school
teacher, having taught high school.
She was a member of the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the
Study and Social Club, Sharon, Order of the Eastern Star and the
Past Worthy Matrons.
On June 7, 1946, she married Harvey L. Mathews at Sharon. He
survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Mark, Hazelton, and Scott,
Kiowa; two daughters, Harva Leigh Lambert, St. Louis, and Kristi
Gass, Wichita; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 4, 1995, at United
Methodist Church, Kiowa, with the Revs. R. Laney Kuhn and Everett
Donaldson presiding. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Hazelton.

Phyllis L. Brown
Phyllis L. Brown, 78, died December 6, 1995, at Via Christi
Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Campus, Wichita.
She was born September 5, 1917, in Harper County, the daughter
of George Herman and Dollie Ruby Jennings Swan. A lifetime Attica
resident, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of United Methodist Church, United Methodist
Women, Attica Saddle Club, all of Attica, and Chrisfield Ladies Aid.
On October 28, 1936, she married Truman E. Brown at Anthony. He
died May 10, 1987.
Survivors include: two daughters, Judy Seal and Marti Lichlyter,
both of Derby; a sister, Georgia Babcock, Attica; four grandchildren;
and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 8, 1995, at United
Methodist Church, Attica, with the Revs. Elton Hunter and Paul
Banister presiding. Burial was in the Attica Cemetery.

Oliver David Bell
Oliver David Bell, 88, died July 11, 2000, at his home in
Medicine Lodge.
He was born June 16, 1912, at AFton, Oklhoma, the son of
John F. and Maude B. Angell Bell. He had been a resident of
Medicine Lodge since 1986, coming from the farm southwest of
town. He was a farmer and rancher. He was a U.S. Army veteran
of World War II.
He belonged to the First Christian Church since 1930. He was
a member of farm management, treasurer of Eagle Township Board
from 1956 to 1969, attended Union Chapel faithfully, taught
Sunday School and was on the church board 1946 to 1985.
On July 5, 1959, he married Wilma Margarite Austin at Medicine
Lodge. She survives.
Matilda Naasz Winter
Matilda Naasz Winter, 88, died December 5, 1994, at Kingman.
She was born October 17, 1907, in Logan County, the daughter
of Andrew and Marie Schauber Naasz. A longtime resident of
Barber and Kingman counties, she was a housewife.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge.
On October 5, 192she married Walter Winter at Kingman. He
preceded her in death.
Survivors include: two sons, Lawrence, Medicine Lodge, and
Leon, Kingman; two daughters, Louise Smith, Kingman, and Rosalee
Goertzen, Hutchinson; 14 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren;
and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 8, 1995, at Trinity
Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge with Pastor Paul Byer presiding.
Burial was in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Nashville, Kansas.

Joseph C. Wells
Joseph C. Wells, 84, died July 9, 2000, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial
Hospital, Medicine Lodge.
He was born January 9, 1916 at Aetna, the son of William and Mary
Alice Ely Wells. A Medicine Ldoge resident for most of his life, he
was an oilfield pumper.
He belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Medicine Lodge. He
served with Tank Battalion No. 7 in the U.S. Army during World War II
in Europe and received the Purple Heart.
On February 7, 1943, he married Olice Mae Ryan at Medicine Lodge.
She survives.
Other survivors include: three daughters, Billie June Crosby,
Medicine Lodge, Jody A. Reynolds, Toronto Lake, and Bonnie L. Hoerl,
Tunica, Mississippi; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Mickie A. Fellers in 1998;
a brother; and six sisters.
Graveside service was held Friday in Highland Cemetery, Medicine
Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding, and with military rites
by a U.S. Army - Fort Riley honor guard.

Doris Maurine Dillon
Doris Maurine Dillon, 87, died November 28, 1995 at Southwest
Medical Center at Liberal.
She was born November 17, 1908, at Roxbury, the daughter of
Bert Alsay and Lovie May Bartz Parsons. A resident of Plains
and Hardtner for most of her life, she was a school-teacher;
earning her teachers' certification at Winfield, and her masters'
degree at Alva, Oklahoma.
She was a member of the United Methodist Church at both Plains
and Hardtner.
On December 24, 1930, she married Hubert Price Dillon at Hardtner.
He died in March 1987.
Survivors include: two sisters, Lucille Petersen, Wichita, and
Virginia Sizelove, Jackson Heights, New York; and two nieces, Leigh
Petersen, Wichita, and Lynne Nugent, Rochester, New York.
Private family graveside services were held Friday, December 1,
1995, in Hardtner Cemetery, with the Rev. Lew Van Der Wege presiding.

Betty Lou Dohm
Betty Lou Dohm, 64, died March 12, 1996, at Ninnescah Manor,
Clearwater.
She was born January 2, 1932, at Medicine Lodge, the daughter
of William Henry and Hazel DeMint Sanders. An Attica resident
from 1964 to 1988, moving to Ellinwood, she was a clerk and
health care giver.
She was a member of Assembly of God Church, Attica.
On May 26, 1947, she married Clarence Poindexter. On January
2, 1952, she married Francis Dohm at Medicine Lodge. He died
October 15, 1986.
Survivors include: a son, John Poindexter, Nashville, Kansas;
three daughters, Peggy Stuart, Dodge City, Leona Kay Kasselman,
Larned, and Toni Kowalsky, Wichita; four brothers, Tweed Sanders,
Oakland, California, Leo and Erwin Danders, both of Anthony, and
Bob Sanders, Sun City; two sisters, Ruby Darling, Clearwater, and
Marie Richardson, Garden City; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, March 14, 1996, at Attica
Christian Church, with the Rev. Paul Banister presiding. Burial
was in the Attica Cemetery.

Dale Guy Lukens
Dale Guy Lukens, 73, died December 3, 1995, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 1, 1922, at the homestead in rural Medicine
Lode, the son of George Washington and Mabel Garten Lukens. A
lifetime Medicine Lodge resident, he was a horseman, rancher and
farmer.
He was a lifetime member of American Pain Horse Association,
member of Little Britches Association, involved with Medicine
Lodge Peace Treaty Association since 1927, founding officer of
Medicine Lodge Saddle and Roping Club and was a board member of
Dry Creek School.
On July 13, 1940, he married Marjorie Lucille Baier at Harper.
She died May 17, 1993.
Survivors include: a son, Roger L., West Lafayette, Indiana;
a daughter, G. Kaye Kuhn, Medicine Lodge; a brother, Ralph,
Medicine Lodge; a sister, Marion McCullough, Medicine Lodge; seven
grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, December 5, 1995, in the
Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Lew Van Der Wege
presiding.

Naomi Ruth Lindwall
Naomi Ruth Lindwall, 75, died March 9, 1996, at LaPorte
Memorial Hospital, LaPorte, Indiana.
She was born July 1, 1920, at Medicine Lodge, the daughter
of William Henry and Margaret 'Madge' Agnes Bayliffe Colborn.
She was a member of First Methodist Church, LaPorte, Indiana,
and the LaPorte Chapter Order of Eastern Star. She retired from
Whirlpool Corporation after 10 years.
On October 12, 1946, Ruth married Harold R. Lindwall, at
Rolling Prairie, Indiana. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Gene Hale and Jimmie Lee
Hale, both of Cabool, Missouri, and Larry P. Lindwall of LaPorte,
Indiana; a daughter, Sandra Urbanski of Michigan City, Indiana;
a brother, John B. Colborn, Medicine Lodge; a sister, Margaret J.
Rutan, Medicine Lodge; nine grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, 1996, at Haverstock
Funeral Home, LaPorte, Indiana, with Pastor Larry Houseman presiding.
Burial was in Pine Lake Cemetery, LaPorte.
Maycel D. Morris
Maycel D. Morris died Sunday, June 4, 2000, in Nathan Adelson
Hospice, Henderson, Nevada, at the age of 76.
She was born December 21, 1923, in Medicine Lodge, the daughter
of Alfred and Blanche Crick. She had been a resident of Henderson,
Nevada, since 1963, and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America.
On January 16, 1947, she married Albert Lee Morris in Pratt. He
died July 29, 1981.
Survivors include: a son, Barry Lee Morris, Henderson, Nevada;
two daughters, Tana Ciccotti, Reno, Nevada, and Kaye Marlene, Pahrump,
Nevada; a brother, Kendall Crick, Pratt; eight grandchildren, and 12
great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the Palm Mortuary, Henderson, Nevada, Saturday
June 10, 2000. Interment was at the Palm
Memorial Park, Henderson,
Nevada.

or South Wind Hospice, Pratt.
Roger P. Springer
Roger P. Springer, 84, of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, died on
Wednesday, March 13, 1996, at Liberty Hospital.
He was born October 22, 1911, in Medicine Lodge.
He worked for the City of Kansas City, Kansas Water and Pollution
Department.
Survivors include: a son, Roger D. Springer, Arkansas City, a
daughter, Jan Mayfield, Excelsior Springs, Missouri; a sister,
Lenore James; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 16, 1996, at the Park
Lawn Chapel. Burial was in
Memorial Park Cemetery, Kansas City,
Missouri.

Bessie M. Page
Bessie M. Page, 94, formerly of Silverton, Oregon, died Tuesday.
She was born in Harper County. She moved to Silverton, Oregon,
in 1956. While in Silverton, she was a pianist and was active in
the PTA mothers, sisngers and senior voices.
She and her husband Frank raised their family on a farm near
Hazelton and for many years on a ranch near Gerlane. He died in
1964.
Survivors include: two sons, Gordon of Vancouver, Washington, and
Nelson of Eugene, Oregon; three daughters, Eileen Lalicker of
Silverton, Naomi Webb of Turner and Rosalie Smith of Salem, Oregon;
13 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held February 22, 1996, in Silverton Methodist
Church. Family interment was in Belcrest
Memorial Park, Salem, Oregon.

Marie Swayden
Marie Swayden, 54, of Amarillo, Texas, died May 30, 2000.
She was born in Jerusalem. She moved to the United States in
1959 and lived in Lubbock, Lockney, and Hereford, Texas.
She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and
was past president of the Pharmaceutical Auxiliary.
In 1967 she married Bob Swayden in Hereford and they moved to
Amarillo. He survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Kelly Robert Swayden,
Michael Gene Swayden and Christopher Swayden, all of Amarillo;
two daughters, Michelle Henke, Bedford, and Tracie Swayden,
Amarillo; her parents, Hanna and Linda Malouf, Friona; 12 sisters
and brothers, Renee Kuper and George Malouf, both of Hereford,
Tony Malouf, Levelland, Carmen Malouf, Amarillo, Souad Bejjania,
Georgette Kfouri and Joseph Malouf, all of Houston, Amal Parson
and Richard Malouf, both of Dallas, Sylvia Ingram and Jiselle Hand,
both of Friona, and Peter Malouf, Fort Worth; and two grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was held Friday, June 2, 2000, at St. Thomas the
Apostle Catholic Church, with Monsignor Joseph Tash and the Rev. Dan
Suciu, of Greek Orthodox in Utah, officiating. Entombment was in
Llano Garden Mausoleum by Schooler Funeral Home, Amarillo, Texas.

Kayla Sue Divine
Kayla Sue Divine, 17, died April 10, 2001, at River Road, Lake
City.
She was born September 20, 1983, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial
Hospital, the daughter of Lonnie L. and Sandra D. Houchin Divine.
A lifetime resident of Sun City, she was a kitchen helper at Cedar
Crest Manor.
Survivors include: her father and stepmother, Lonnie and Susan,
Medicine Lodge; her mother, Sandra Divine, Sun City; grandparents,
David and Marilyn Divine, Sawyer, and Dean Houchin, Sun City; great-grandparents, Mary Jane and Him Klym, both of Dickinson, North
Dakota; two brothers, Jody, Sun City, and Nicholas Rennaker, Sun
City; a stepbrother, R.J. Haverman, Medicine Lodge; two sisters,

Irene E. Hickey
Irene E. Hickey, died July 7, 2000, at Clara Barton Hospital,
Hoisington.
She was born December 29, 1922, in Barton County, the daughter
of James R. and Clarissa Larkin Carroll. A lifetime Hoisington
resident, she was a homemaker.
She belonged to St. John the Evengelist Catholic Church and
the Altar Society, both at Hoisington.
On April 15, 1944, she married Paul F. Hickey at Hoisington.
He died September 7, 1981.
Survivors include: two brothers, Pete Carroll, Hoisington, and
Bill Carroll, Medicine Lodge; three sisters, Geneva Carroll and
Betty Smith, both of Hoisington, and Edith King, Houma, Lousiana;
and numerous nephews and nieces.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Ruby Farnsworth.
The funeral service was held Monday, July 17, 2000, at St. John
the Evengelist Catholic Church, with Father Pascal Klein presiding.
Burial was in St. John Cemetery, Hoisington.

Ione Wheeler
Ione Wheeler, 84, died October 21, 1994, at St. Joseph Hospital,
Wichita.
She was born May 5, 1910, at Cherokee, Oklahoma, the daughter of
John J. and Fay Hancock Tharp. A Kiowa resident for the last 14
years, she was a homemaker.
Survivors include: mother, Kiowa; two sons, Jack West, Topeka,
and Charles West, Cherokee, Oklahoma; two daughters, Patricia
Robinson, Monument, and Rufina Kirk, Tahlequah, Oklahoma; four
brothers, Vernon Tharp, Colorado Springs, Colorado; Bob Tharp,
Kiowa, John Tharp, Nickerson, and Steve Tharp, Hutchinson; three
sisters, Jessie Houck, Sacramento, California, Lometa Rathgeber,
Kiowa, and Izora Sergent, Millington, Michigan; 13 grandchildren;
and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 26, 1994, at First
Christian Church, Kiowa. Burial was in the Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa.
Leona Rose Allan
Leona Rose Allan, 88, died july 12, 2000, at Kiowa.
She was born March 28, 1912, at Freedom, Oklahoma, the daughter
of John and Effie Tharp Olson. A Kiowa resident since the 1930's,
she worked in food services for the Kiowa school system for 25
years.
She belonged to First Christian Church, Kiowa.
On October 7, 1933, she married Manford James Allan at Alva,
Oklahoma. He died February 8, 1978.
Survivors include: two daughters, Lovie Price, Kiowa, and Bonnie
Burke, Manhattan; two brothers, Ludwig Olson, Nevada, Missouri, and
Jay Olson, Horton, Missouri; a sister, Gerna Lee Bowen, Raytown,
Missouri; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Max; and three brothers, Gene,
Bill and Clint.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 14, 2000, at First Christian
Church, Kiowa, with the Rev. Tom Jones presiding. Burial will be in
Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa.

Sylvia J. Armstrong
Sylvia J. Armstrong, 63, died August 14, 2000, at Via Christi
Regional Medical Center, St. Francis Camput, Wichita.
She was born February 20, 1937, at Sharon, the daughter of John
V. and Dorothy L. Stalknaker Clark. She had been a resident of
Nashville since 1983, moving from Ashland. She was a homemaker.
On June 26, 1954, she married Max Armstrong at Medicine Lodge.
He survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Michael P. and Jerry W., both
of Garden City; a brother, Curtis Clark, Nashville; two sisters,
Jesse Gaschler, Wichita, and Jean Lackey, Turon; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, August 17, 2000, at Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters
presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Virginia Ann Hrencher
Virginia Ann Hrencher, 70, died April 8, 1996, at her home in
Sharon.
She was born July 14, 1925, at Waterloo, Kansas, the daughter
of Louis and Mary Rohling Meng.
A long time resident of Sharon, she was a Sharon school cook
for 31 years and a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and Altar
Socity, both of Sharon, and the Medicine Lodge Golf Association.
On October 9, 1945, she married Francis J. Hrencher, in Sharon.
He survives.

Medicine Lodge, Mike, Viola, and Leroy, Sharon; four daughters,
Kathleen Pennock, Medicine Lodge, Martha Gardner, Alva, Oklahoma,

Jim Meng, Severy, Joe Meng, Kingman, Sylvester Meng, Kingman, and
Eugene Meng, Haysville; five sisters, Mildred Dick, Parsons, Irene
Martin, Howard, Marie Martin, Augusta, Helen Burgess, Wichita, and
Betty Buhrman, Clearwater; her mother, Mary Meng, Sharon; 19 grandchildren; and four great-grandsons.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 11, 1996, at St.
Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, with Father Anthony Suellentrop
presiding. Burial was in St. Boniface Cemetery, Sharon.

Hilbert S. Buckles
Hilbert S. Buckles, 82, died November 22, 1999, near Nescatunga,
Oklahoma.
He was born April 22, 1917, at Hazelton, the son of Leslie and
Ona George Buckles. A Kiowa resident, he was an electrician, and
was owner and operator of Buckles Electric.
He belonged to the Methodist Church and was a member of the
American Legion.
On July 13, 1962, he married Mildred Opal Jenkins at Wichita.
She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Dwayne Kruckenberg, Kiowa; a
daughter, Marcie Jo Sporn, Wichita; a brother, Hubert Buckles,
Phoenix, Arizona; eight grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren,
and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gary Dean Kruckenburg.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 24, 1999, at the
Methodist Church, Kiowa, with the Rev. Bill Dyar presiding. Burial
will be in Hazelton Cemetery.

G. Oren Johnson
G. Oren Johnson, 67, died September 28, 1994, at Wichita.
He was born July 6, 1927, at Medicine Lodge, the son of
Galen Orville and Tempest J. Smith Johnson. A longtime
Anchorage resident, he was a retired sel-employed electrical
contractor.
He married Pauline G. Johnson. She survives.
Other survivors include: three sons, Steven E., San Francisco,
Carl d., Corvallis, Oregon, and Mark A., Nikiski, Alaska; a
daughter, Robin A. McGuire, Alliance, Ohio; a brother, Wilbur,
Arkansas City; two sisters Patsy Smith, Alba, Missouri, and
Janet Prough, Ponca City, Oklahoma; and 10 grandchildren.

Shirley Jo Rose Thorne
Shirley Jo Rose Thorne, 61, died June 26, 2000, at her home in
Sawyer.
She was born September 18, 1939, at Medicine Lodge, the daughter
of Curtis W. and Mary E. Ball Rose. She was a retired librarian
at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, and has been a farmer
and rancher.
She belonged to First United Methodist Church, Alva, Oklahoma.
On August 13, 1967, she married Larry R. Thorne at Alva, Oklahoma.
He survives.
Other survivors include: her mother, Mary Rose, Medicine Lodge.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 30, 2000, at Sawyer, with
the Rev. J. Weegie Williams and Jan Blasi presiding. Burial was in
Ellenwood Cemetery, Sawyer.
Memorials may be sent to Sawyer Community Center of Northwestern
Oklahoma State University, in care of Larrison Mortuary, Pratt.
James Allen Taylor
James Allen Taylor, 42, died November 26, 1999, at his home
in Hutchinson.
He was born January 16, 1957, at Hardtner, the son of Carl
E. and Wilma Joyce Ash Taylor. A Hutchinson resident for seven
years moving from Medicine Lodge, he was a foreman at Doskocil
Foods, Hutchinson.
He belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge.
Survivors include: two sons, Jason K. Taylor and Tanner A.
Taylor, both of Fort Dodge, Iowa; father and stepmother, Carl
and Merlene K. Taylor, Medicine Lodge; and a brother, Gale L.
Taylor, Elk City, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
Memorial service was held Tuesday, November 20, 1999, at
Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev.
Paul J. Deyer presiding. Cremation has taken place. Burial was
in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.
A memorial has been established in his name at the funeral home.
Luther 'L.J.' Ryan
Luther 'L.J.' Ryan, 72, died June 29, 2000, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.
He was born October 26, 1927, at Mounds, Oklahoma, the son of
James L. and Addie M. Osborn Ryan. A resident of Medicine Lodge
since 1951, moving from Russell, he was a cost accountant for
Gold Bond & Barber County Savings & Loan.
He belonged to First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge.
On June 26, 1947, he married Betty D. Harding at Russell. She
survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Rodney J., West Monroe, Lousiana,
two daughters, Terry J. Axline, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Paula
C. Chapin, Haysville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 3, 2000, at First Christian
Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial
was in Highland Cemetery.
Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, in care
of Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge.
Robert H. Rose
Robert H. Rose, 91, died November 23, 1999, at Pratt Regional
Medical Center, Pratt.
He was born October 24, 1908, at Bogard, Missouri, the son of
Benjamin J. and Susan I. Cheesman Rose. A Sun City resident for
68 years, he was the retired owner and operator of Howell Hardware
Store, Sun City.
He belonged to the Veterans of the Foreign Wars and was one of
the founders of the South Central Telephone Company. He served in
the U.S. Army during World War II during the European Theater.
On March 6, 1932, he married Frances E. Ackley at St. John. She
died October 12, 1960.
Survivors include: two sons, Fred N. Rose, Coats, and Phil A.
Rose, Eureka, California; a sister, Faye Murphy, Goddard; 12 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Cliff, Clarence and
Frank; and four sisters, Lena Morris, Nora Schowengerdt, Maude
Rhodes and Alpha Thiebaut.
Graveside service was Saturday, November 27, 1999, in Fairview
Cemetery, Greensburg, with the Rev. Paul Wylie presiding.
Memorials may be sent to the Pratt Regional Medical Center or
the Sun City Community Room, both in care of Larrison Mortuary,
Pratt.
