Fredrick T. Bailey
Fredrick T. Bailey, 96, died on January 28, 1999, at Westview
Manor, Derby.
He was born on June 22, 1902, in Alfalfa County, Oklahoma, to
Christopher C. and Mae E. Snyder Bailey. He had worked for Beech
Aircraft and had lived in Wakita, Oklahoma, Hazelton, Waldron,
and Medicine Lodge.
On January 22, 1930, he married Hope N. Campbell at Anthony.
She died on July 28, 1979.
Survivors include: two daughters, Laverta Jean Ryan, Anthony
and Thelma L. Smith, Wichita; a sister, Venus V. Swazy, Wakita,
Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one
great-great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, a sister and a
daughter.
Graveside service were Tuesday, February 2, 1999, in Rose Hill
Cemetery, Hazelton, with Steve Tinius presiding.

Lydia Jane Evans
Lydia Jane Evans, 1 month, died March 17, 2001, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.
She was born February 15, 2001, at Pratt, the daughter of David
R. and Loretta L. Davis Evans.
Survivors include: parents, Medicine Lodge; a sister Destiny
Raeschell Evans, Medicine Lodge; grandparents, Rocky and Pat Davis,
Medicine Lodge, Joe and Luetta Liberatore, Winterhaven, Florida,
Jane Smart, Medicine Lodge; great-grandparents Jim and Marva Powell,
Hardtner, Larry and Sue Singletare, Lauraville, Florida, Raymond and
Dian Davis, Medicine Lodge, and Robert and Eva Miller, Larned.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Bill Evans, and great-grandfather Wallace Crosby.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, 2001, at First Christian
Church, Medicine Lodge, with Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial was in
Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Floyd E. 'Cap' Conard
Floyd E. 'Cap' Conard, 88, died January 29, 1999, at Golden
Plains Health Center, Hutchinson.
He was born March 19, 1910, in Stanton County, the son of
Arner A. and Alice C. Pickerill Conard. A Kiowa resident since
1964, moving from Barber County, he was a farmer and mechanic.
He belonged to Hazelton Baptist Church.
On August 25, 1940, he married Edith Todd in Comanche County.
She survives.
Other survivors include: a daughter, Connie Plumb, Hutchinson;
a sister, Maurine Cox, Attica; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Daniel F; and two half-brothers.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 3, 1999, at
Fisher Funeral Home Chapel, Kiowa, with the Rev. Paul Banister
presiding. Burial was in Attica Cemetery, Attica.

Helen L. Mott
Helen L. Mott, 80, died June 21, 2000, at her home in
Kiowa.
She was born October 20, 1919 west of Cherokee, Oklahoma,
the daughter of Henry and Dorothy Huddleston Diel. A life-time resident, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of First Christian Church at Kiowa.
On July 24, 1938, she married John Franklin Mott at
Cherokee. He died August 8, 1968.
Survivors include: three sons, Fred, Kiowa, Stephen,
Wichita, and Roger, Hutchinson; two daughters, Deanna Wetzel,
Wichita, and Darlene Cloyd, Burlington, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sevral nieces and
nephews.
She was preceded in death by a brother, and two infant
grandsons.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 24, 2000, at First
Christian Church, Kiowa. Burial was in Riverview Cemetery.

L. Gayle Winter
L. Gayle Winter, 85, died October 30, 1999, at her home in
Medicine Lodge.
She was born February 26, 1914, at Nashville, the daughter of
Clarence Oliver and Edith Tibbitts Louthan. A Medicine Lodge
resident for 35 years, moving from Sharon, she was a homemaker.
She had been a cook at Medicine Lodge High School, the Truck
Stop Restaurant and Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital.
She belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge.
On February 4, 1934, she married Henry John Winter, at Anthony.
He died July 1, 1999.
Survivors include: two sons, Allen L., Mulvane, and Ronald W.,
Medicine Lodge; two daughters, Virginia L. Lentz, Wichita, and
Vickie J. Scarbrough, Tampa, Florida; three sisters, Mildred
Sleeper, Isabel, Laurene Dicke, Manhattan, and Geneva Mattal,
Nashville; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, Lloyd, Jack, Dean
and Donald Louthan; and a sister, Lauretta Woodard.
Graveside services were held Tuesday, November 2, 1999, in
Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Paul Beyer
presiding.

Dwight E. Overstreet
Dwight E. Overstreet, 96, died January 29, 1999, at Kiwoa District
Manor.
He was born December 29, 1902, at Hutchinson, the son of Samuel E.
and Lula Patterson Overstreet. A Kiowa resident since 1927, moving
from Medicine Lodge, he was a jeweler.
He was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ, Cosmos
Lodge No. 278, OES and the Wichita Consistory.
On June 15, 1930, he married Caroline E. Sippel at Medicine Lodge.
She died July 10, 1991.
He is survived by a sister, Nerva Trimble, Thayer, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 2, 1999, at Congregational
United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Harald Wisegarver presiding.
Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa.

Ina Mae Benfield
Ina Mae Benfield, 82, died August 10, 2000, at St. Francis
Hospital, Wichita.
She was born March 20, 1918, in Iredell County, North Carolina,
the daughter of Ernest L. and Mattie Poole Warren. A Kiowa resident
since 1959, moving from Amorita, Oklahoma, she was a homemaker and
managed a dairy barn.
She belonged to Congregational United Church of Christ, Kiowa.
On September 21, 1940, she married James Grier Benfield at South
Carolina. He survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Gary, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; a
daughter, Gloria Jones-Wolf, Elk Falls; four brothers, Floyd, James,
Ernest and Clyde Warren, all of Statesville, North Carolina; a sister,
Ada Gaton, Statesville; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Lee; and a sister, Ollie.
Funeral services were held Saturday, August 12, 2000, at Congregational
United Church of Christ, Kiowa, with the Rev. John Attaway presiding.
Burial was in Riverview Cemetery, Kiowa.

Vinson Irvin
Vinson Irvin, 62, died January 25, 1999, at his home in
Greensburg.
He was born Jaunary 9, 1937, at Dorchester, Virginia, the
son of Green and Minnie Brock Irvin. He was employed by the
Kansas Department of Transportation for 26 years, retiring
in 1994.
He attended Faith Tabernacle Church and belonged to Promise
Keepers and Greensburg Masonic Lodge No. 293 AF&AM.; He served
in the U.S. Navy from 1957 until 1963.
On December 24, 1964, he married Elsie Elzine Keller at Sun
City. She survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Jason Eric, Greensburg; two
daughters, Carolyn Kay Irvin, Greensburg, and Roberta Lynn
Irvin, North Kansas City, Missouri; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, January 28, 1999, at
Faith Tabernacle Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Willard
Olinger presiding. Burial was in Sunnyside Cemetery, Sun City.

Lillian Yvonne Durant
Lillain Yvonne Durant, 66, died March 14, 2001, at Via Christi
St. Francis, Wichita.
She was born September 27, 1934, at Galatia, the daughter of
John E. and Elizabeth Wilhelm Kaiser. She was a Medicien Lodge
resident for 34 years, coming from Great Bend. She was a
Community Living Instructor at Arrowhead West.
Survivors include: two sons, Robert Durant, Albuquerque, New
Mexico, and Russell Durant, Medicine Lodge; two sisters, Joyce
Schiller, Great Bend, and Donna Kaiser, Barstow, California; and
one grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17, 2001, at Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters
presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Carrie E. Hendricks
Carrie E. Hendricks, 96, died October 25, 1999, at Alva Share
Medical Center, Alva, Oklahoma.
She was born March 29, 1903, near Wakita, in the Oklahoma
Territory, the daughter of Albus Lewis "Burt" and Lucy Elizabeth
Howell Lieblie.
She attended Wakita schools. A Shares, Oklahoma resident since
1994, moving from Capron, Oklahoma, she was a farm wife.
She belonged to Capron United Methodist Church, Capron, Oklahoma.
On November 10, 1924, she married Burnes Hendricks at Bartlesville,
Oklahoma. He died September 11, 1986.
Survivors include: a son, Richard, Sharon; two sisters, numerous
grandchildren, great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchildren;
and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 29, 1999, at Wharton
Funeral Chapel, Alva, Oklahoma, with Father Dave Imming presiding.
Burial was in Capron Cemetery, Capron, Oklahoma.

Bertilla Mary Ketzner
Bertilla Mary Ketzner, 88, Sharon, died on February 14, 2001.
She was born July 19, 1912, in Ost, the daughter of George and
Rose Anna Ast Seidl. She was a homemaker and resident of Sharon
for 47 years.
She was a member of the St. Boniface Catholic Church and Altar
Society.
On July 30, 1946, she married John Edward Katzner in Andale.
He preceded her in death on January 1, 1997.
Survivors include: a son, David J. Katzner, Valley Center; four
daughters, Mary Rose Colman, Alexandria, Virginia, Carol Ketzner,
Macksville, Helen Telford and Marilyn Stewart both of Wichita; two
brothers, George Seidl and Ben Seidl both of Benton; three sisters,
Rose Orth, Andale, Sister Lecine Seidl, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and
Marie Seidl, Benton; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, February 17, 2001 at St.
Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon with Father Anthony Suellentrop
officiating. Internment was at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Sharon.
Memorials have been established with the St. Boniface Church, Sharon,
or the Alzheimer's Association.
Theodore G. 'Ted' Ricke
Theodore G. 'Ted' Ricke, 64, died January 13, 1999, at Clara
Barton Hospital Hoisington.
He was born July 31, 1934, at Medicine Lodge, the son of
Theodore H. and Violet Bowman Ricke. A Hoisington resident since
1963, moving from Larned he had been a licensed funeral director
and emblamer since 1957 and was co-owner of Nicholson-Ricke
Funeral Home, Hoisington, and Bryant-Christians Funeral Home,
Great Bend.
He belonged to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, the
Knights of Columbus, was a past president of the Lions Club,
a former member of the Clara Barton Hospital Board, the USD 431
Board of Education and was on the zoning board, all at Hosington,
and belonged to the Kansas and National Funeral Directors
Associations, the Order of the Golden Rule and National Selected
Morticians.
On November 2, 1951, he married Darlene Huffman at Hazelton.
On June 7, 1976, he married Marilyn J. Kaiser at Hoisington. She
survives.
Other survivors include: a son, Kirby Ricke, Hoisington; four
daughters, Crista McMillin, Omega, Oklahoma, Teresa Cain, Garden
City, Kathy Lynch, Medicine Lodge, and Terri Swalley, Great Bend;
four brothers, Jim, Frank and Glenn, all of Medicine Lodge, and
Paul, Canon City, Colorado; four sisters, Dotty Miller, Attica,
Lois Watt, Kiowa, Wanda Harding, Medicine Lodge, and Fonda Lawrence,
Norton; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Ricke.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 17, 1999, at St. John
the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Fathers Pascal
Klein, Gerald Hammeke and David Flaglor presiding. Burial was in
the church cemetery.

Emery Merrel Harper
Emery Merrel Harper, 86, died January 5, 1998, at Meade
District Hospital.
He was born June 29, 1911, at Norwich, the son of Emery
Fernando and Mary Sophia Jenkins Harper. A resident of
Plains since 1970, he was a retired heavy equipment operator.
On August 25, 1938, he married Betty May Lytle at Medicine
Lodge. She died February 11, 1963. On June 10, 1965, he
married Patsy Darrough Fose at Ashland. She died April 11,
1988.
Survivors include: two sons, Howard and Harold, both of
Dodge City; a stepson, Leroy Fose, Coldwater; six grandchildren; and his companion, Yvonnie H. Crittenden, Plains.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 9, 1998, at
Plains Christian Church with Michael Martin presiding.
Graveside service was held Friday afternoon in Crown Hill
Cemetery, Coldwater.

Neva I. Lukens
Neva Irene Lukens, 87, a longtime Richland, Washington resident,
died Sunday, November 14, 1999, at Walnut Grove Nursing Home.
She was born November 15, 1911, in Kingman. As a teenager her
family moved to Medicine Lodge. The Lukens family moved to Richland,
Washington in 1948. She worked for the Atomic Energy Commission at
the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in Washington State until retirement.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Richland.
On December 20, 1929, she married Glenn W. Lukens in Medicine
Lodge. He died on December 10, 1972.
Survivors include: two sons, Douglas Lukens, LaQuinta, California,
Kenneth Lukens, Texas; three grandchildren, David Lukens, Shelly
Smithy, and Steven Lukens; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, three brothers and a
sister.
Funeral services were held Thursday, November 18, 1999. Interment
followd in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Richland, Washington.
Gilbert S. Louthan
Gilbert Shirley Louthan, 80, died Sunday morning, July 16, 2000,
at Pratt Regional Medical Center, Pratt.
He was born February 24, 1920 at Chester, Oklahoma, the son of
Charley and Nellie Vincent Louthan. He grew up around Chester and
later went to Colorado to work in the mines. He lived in Enid, and
worked for Pillsbury Mills. Later moved to Medford, Oklahoma where
he went back to school to learn shoe repair. After graduating, they
moved to Harper, where they have lived since that time. He opened
the Harper Shoe Repair Shop. He also had a shop in Medicine Lodge
for several years until retiring due to health problems.
He was a member of the Harper Christian Church, Harper Masonic
Lodge #206 AF&AM;, Rebekah Lodge #32 and a lifetime member of the
Odd Fellows.
On June 14, 1950 at Garber, Oklahoma, he married Rosie Jaide.
She survives at home in Harper.
Other survivors include: two sons, Vernon Louthan, Jacksonville,
North Carolina, and Royal Lee Louthan, Mississippi; three daughters,
Bessie Haraldson, Enid, Oklahoma, Mary Ann Fisher, San Jose, California,
and Eva Louthan, Beverly; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Calvin Louthan, Salem, Oregon, Leroy Louthan,
Redding, California, and Harry Louthan, Tulsa, Oklahoma; one half
brother, Earnest Wahl, Wichita; two step-sisters, Dorothy King and
Edna Nelson, both of Enid, Oklahoma; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Francis and
Paul, two half brothers, Elbert Nelson and Johnny Derick, and one
grandson, Shawn Hays.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, 2000, in the Elliott
Funeral Home with Pastor Clayton Portenier officiating. The Odd Fellows
conducted a service also. Military graveside services were conducted
by a group from Ft. Riley Military Division, Fort Riley, and the
Masonic service was conducted by Harper Lodge #206 AF&AM; at the Harper
Cemetery.
Aetna Alice Adams
Aetna Alice Adams, 87, died October 25, 1999, at Medicine Lodge
Memorial Hospital.
She was born April 26, 1912 near Sharon, the daughter of John
E. and Ethel C. Clough DeWitt. A Medicine Lodge resident since
1940, moving from Cullison, she was a registered nurse, working
for the Kansas school system from 1951 to 1976.
She belonged to the United Methodist Church and the Mary Martha
Circle, both at Medicine Lodge, and Kansas Nurses Association.
On September 21, 1940, she married Wendell Stone Adams at Pratt.
He died May 27, 1979.
Survivors include: two daughters, Mary Jane Klym, Dickinson,
North Dakota, and Patricia A. Graves, Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters,
Donna Harris, Alpharetta, Georgia, and Doris Bryant, Copeland; four
grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and
ten step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Peggy DeWitt, in infancy
and a sister, LaVon Rucker.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 30, 1999, at United
Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Jim Godbey presiding.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Mary L. Fiegel
Mary L. Fiegel, 71, died September 1, 2000, at the home of
her son in Azle, Texas.
She was born August 22, 1929, at Belefont, the daughter of
Leo and Mary Gleason Laudick. A lifetime Dodge City - area
resident, moving to Azle, Texas, in July, she was a retired
bookkeeper for John Stickney Distributors and Southwest
Distributing, both at Dodge City, retiring in 1994.
She belonged to Sacred Heart Cathedral and the Altar
Society, both at Dodge City.
On January 25, 1949, she married Walter A. "Babe" Fiegal
at Sharon. He died March 20, 1979.
Survivors include: two sons, Craig, Lockport, Illinois,
and Robert, Azle; three brothers, Vincent Laudick, Phoenix,
Arizona, Paul Laudick, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and John
Laudick, Ardmore, Oklahoma; a sister, Leora Mitchel, Woodward, Oklahoma; and four grandchildren.
Funeral Mass was held Tuesday, September 5, 2000, at
Sacred Heart Cathedral, Dodge City, with Father John R.
Strasser presiding. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery,
Dodge City.

Dodge City.
Donald Robert Thompson
Donald Robert Thompson, 78, died May 15, 2001, at Rogers,
Arkansas.
He was born January 7, 1922, at Isabel, the son of Owen
E. and Bernice H. Thurston Thompson. He was a resident of
Garfield, Arkansas eleven and a half years, moving from
Isabel. He was retired from the County Road Department.
He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Army where he
received the Purple Heart and four Bronze Stars, good
conduct ribbon and EAME ribbon.
He was a member of VFW, and Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include: son, Earl Thompson, Rogers, Arkansas;
daughters, Joyce Erskin, Springdale, Arkansas, and Lee Beutler,
Norman, Oklahoma; brother, Orman Thompson, Andover; sisters,
Margaret Harding, Pratt, and Mary Patterson, Norman Oklahoma;
12 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001, at
Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge, with Dave
Imming presiding. Special Military Honors were provided by
U.S. Army, Ft. Riley. Burial was in the Isabel Cemetery.
Lola Maurine Allen
Lola Maurine Allen, 88, died March 17, 2001, at Share Convalescent
Home, Alva, Oklahoma.
Visitation is Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Fisher Funeral Home,
Kiowa.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 21, 2001 at 10:30 a.m.
at the United Methodist Church, Hardtner, with Rev. Jan McDaniel

Marjorie Ann Schroeder
Marjorie Ann Schroeder, 72, died February 20, 2001, at Via
Christi St. Francis, Wichita.
She was born January 28, 1929, in Larned, the daughter of
Charles Otis and Lura Maude Christy Blackwell. She was a
Medicine Lodge resident for 16 years, coming from Macksville.
She was a CMA and Ward Clerk.
She was a member of Rebekah's, Macksville.
In February 1878, she married Norman Schroeder in Macksville.
He preceded her in death on October 23, 1985, in Macksville.
Survivors include: a son, Freddie Hogan, Cullison; two
daughters, Gloria Taylor, Macksville, and Maria Angle, Anthony;
three brothers, Charles Blackwell, Derby, Robert Blackwell,
Medicine Lodge, and Leroy Blackwell, St. Louis, Missouri; a sister,
Mary Rhea, Medicine Lodge; ten grandchildren, four step-grandchildren;
and three step-great-grandchildren.

Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with Doctor Jim Godbey and Dallas
Hull, presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Gary Wayne Adams
Gary Wayne Adams, 60, died February 10, 2001, at Kiowa County
Memorial Hospital, Greensburg.
He was born January 15, 1941, at Pratt, the son of Carl Wayne
and Nina Pauline Faulkner Adams. A farmer and stockman, he had
lived on a farm southeast of Greensburg, a farm near Coldwater,
and in Hutchinson for a time.
He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Kansas Farm
Bureau.
On March 21, 1960, he married Sharon A. Deewall at Greensburg.
She survives.
Other survivors include: two sons, Brian, Coldwater, and Brent,
Medicine Lodge; a daughter, Lesa Peroutek, Esbon; a sister, Karen
Wylie, Durango, Colorado; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 13, 2001, at First
United Methodist Church, Greensburg, with the Rev. Lawrence Lambert
Jr. presiding. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg.

Rosa S. Dohm
Rosa S. Dohm, 92, died Sunday, February 11, 2001, at Harper
Hospital, Harper.
She was born October 31, 1908 northwest of Sharon on a farm,
the daughter of John and Molly Armbruster Ditgen. A life-long
Sharon resident, she was a homemaker.
She was a member of st. Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, and
the Altar Society.
On August 12, 1935, she married Louis Dohm at Sharon. He died
April 10, 1979.
Survivors include: three sons, Robert and John both of Sharon,
Bill, Tulsa, Oklahoma; three daughters, Darlene Tracy and Helen
Sage, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Shriley Duello, Kansas City,
Missouri; three brothers, Julius Ditgen, Attica, Alfred Ditgen,
Kiowa, and Ralph Ditgen, Augusta; a sister, Lucille Stevenson,
Kiowa; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son Peter, two brothers,
Albert and Roman Ditgen, three sistes, Theresa Ricke, Anna Taber
and Cecilia Ricke.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 14, 2001, at St.
Boniface Catholic Church, Sharon, with Father Anthony Suellentrop
officiating. Burial was in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Sharon.
Memorials may be made to the Attica Long Term Care and/or the
Harper Hospital. Fisher Funeral Home, Kiowa, was in chare of
arrangements.
Richard C. Erickson
Richard C. Erickson, 78, died July 21, 2000, at Wesley Medical
Center, Wichita.
He was born July 4, 1922, at Tipton, the son of Andrew R. and
Mary Theresa Schulte Erickson. A Sharon resident since 1997,
formerly of St. Joseph, Missouri, Branson, Missouri, and Salina,
he was an iron worker in various parts of the U.S. retiring in
1981.
He belonged to the Kansas City Iron Worker's Guild.
He married Eula Faye Erickson. She died in 1997.
Survivors include: two sons, Dick, Sharon, and Bob, San Diego,
California; a daughter, Elizabeth Ann Lasley, Lafayette, Colorado;
a brother, Larry Erickson, Grand Junction, Colorado; a sister,
Mildred Cassaw, Salina; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Donald.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 25, 2000, at Ryan
Mortuary, Salina, with Father Barry Brinkman presiding. Burial was
in Mount Auburn Cemetery, St. Joseph.
Memorials may be sent to a hospice organization of the donor's
choice, in care of Ryan Mortuary, Salina.
Lysle Osborn "Sam" Rickard
Lysle Osborn "Sam" Rickard, 95, died Saturday, February 24, 2001,
at Cedar Crest Manor Nursing Home, Medicine Lodge.
He was born September 22, 1905, at Zenda, the son of Charlie and
Mima Osborn Rickard. He moved to Medicine Lodge in 1926, coming from
Zenda. He was a horse trader.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason, Consistory-Scottish Rite, Wichita. He
was a member of Medicine Lodge Stockade, Lions Club, Chamber of
Commerce, Medicine Lodge Saddle and Roping Club, and Pratt Saddle
Club, Pratt. He was a pioneer of the Peace Treaty.
He belonged to the United Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge.
In September 1941, he married Betty Jones at Winfield. She died
July 4, 1982.
Survivors include: a son, Grady, Gold Canyon, Arizona; a daughter,
Mary Jane Coolidge, Fort Worth, Texas; three brothers, Dorcil, Los
Alamos, New Mexico, Francis, Fort Collins, Colorado, and Laurel "Dub",
Medicine Lodge; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three
great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 27, 2001 at United
Methodist Church, Medicine Lodge, with Doctor Jim Godbey presiding.
Burial was in Highland Cemetery, Medicine Lodge.

Medicine Lodge Stockade, both in care of Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home,
