William Kabrich
William C. Kabrich, 57, Olathe, died April 9, 2001, at the Olathe Medical Center. He was born November 7, 1943, in Bendavis, Mo., the son of William Kabrich and Eunice (Robertson) Rogers. He is preceded in death by his wife, Doris Kabrich, and brother, Phillip Kabrich. He is survived by his parents; three brothers, Calvin Kabrich and Frank Kabrich, both of Houston, and Lee Rogers, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and three sisters, Joyce Covey, Ottawa, Roberta James, Gardner, and Deborah Linton, Edwardsville. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the W. L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe. The family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.

Stuart Kagol Stuart Allen Kagol, 53, Olathe, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park. He was born Sept. 30, 1946, in Crosby, Minn., and had lived in Olathe the past 10 years. He had retired from the U.S. Air Force after 20 years of service and had worked for Sprint for the past 14 years. Survivors include his wife, Mary Kagol, of the home; a son, David Kagol, Overland Park; two daughters, Carrie Kagol, Denver, Colo., and Christy Lawrence, Landover, Md.; his mother, Evelyn Kagol, Silver Bay, Minn.; a brother, Don Kagol, St. Paul, Minn.; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Olathe. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe.

Elinor Kamm Elinor E. Gardner Kamm, 88, Abilene, Kan., died Tuesday, July 18, 2000, at the Salina Regional Health Center. She was born Dec. 1, 1911, in the New Basel Community, the daughter of Henry and Emm (Tischhauser) Miller. The family moved to Abilene, where she attended Abilene public schools. She married Charles Gardner on July 4, 1936. They lived in Minneapolis, Kan.; Gilroy, Calif.; and east of Enterprise, Kan., where they farmed. He died in October 1947. She had been a beautician and was for many years a dental assistant to Dr. Glen Hampton. She married Roy Kamm on May 27, 1961. They lived and farmed in the New Basel Community. He died in February 1994. She was a member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Abilene. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Miller; and six sisters, Mabel Lipps, Edythe Ayo, Lorene Whiteley, Agnes Felbush, Edna Johnson and Clara Phillips. Survivors include a son, Ronald Gardner, Olathe; a stepson, Dwight Kamm, Abilene; a sister, Viola Maring, Enterprise; three grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Visitation will be anytime at the Danner Funeral Home, Abilene. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Grace United Church of Christ, Abilene. Betty Kaps Betty Lee Kaps, 70, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at her home in Wellsville due to a brain tumor. She was born March 2, 1930, in the rural Bunker Hill, Kan., area, the daughter of George and Mabel Letsch. She attended elementary school in a nearby country school, graduated from Russell High School in 1948, and attended college at Larsen College in Connecticut. On July 18, 1953, she married Bob Kaps and they took over the Kaps family farm near Bunker Hill. In 1972, they moved to the Kansas City area where they lived near Spring Hill and Stanley before moving to the Wellsville area in March 2000. She was employed by banks in Russell, Spring Hill and Olathe. Her last employment was with the Johnson County Sheriff's Department where she retired in 1992. Her hobbies included quilting and helped manage the quilting group at Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Wea. She was active in many other church activities. She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dwight, who was killed in World War II; a sister, Etah, from Topeka; and two infant siblings who died at birth. Survivors include Bob, her husband of 47 years; two daughters, Laurie, Kansas City, and Jane. from Denver; three sons, Tom from Missouri, Dan from Olathe, and John from Paola; and five grandchildren. The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Charter Funeral Home, Merriam, where a rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Thursday in the Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church at Wea. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Hospice of Olathe and/or to the American Cancer Society.

Donald Karstetter Donald Lee Karstetter, 66, Manhattan, Kan., died Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. He had received a heart transplant in 1994. He was born Jan. 2, 1934, in Louisburg, Kan., the son of Charlie Clarence Karstetter and Iva Elizabeth (Ealy) Karstetter. He grew up in Spring Hill and later lived in Olathe. He was a 1951 graduate of Spring Hill High School. He married Voleta Ramey on Aug. 13, 1961, in Spring Hill. He moved to Manhattan in 1979. He was a welder. He worked for the U.S. Civil Service in Fort Riley for 13 years, retiring in 1992. He had worked previously at the former Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Grandview, Mo. He also had served in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by a brother, Orville A. Karsetter. Survivors include his wife, Voleta Karstetter, of the home; a son, Donald L. Karstetter Jr., Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Shauna M. Karstetter, Littleton, Colo.; a brother, Charles Ray Karstetter, Harrisonville, Mo.; three sisters, Doris M. Prothe, Paola, Dorothy R. Guetterman, Bucyrus, and Lois F. Wurtz, Pleasanton; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24, at the Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill. The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25, at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Albert Kasberger Albert John Kasberger, 91, Olathe, died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000, at Great Plains Nursing Center, Olathe. He was born Nov. 25, 1908, in St. Paul, Kan., and had lived in Olathe since 1975. He attended Pittsburg State University. He was in the automotive field for many years, specifically working for the American Motors Regional Zone Administrative Office, starting in 1973. He was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church, Olathe. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Zillner. Survivors include his wife, Elsie M. Kasberger, of the home; three sons, Larry Kasberger and Michael Kasberger, both of Olathe, and John Kasberger, Winston Salem, N.C.; a brother, John Kasberger, Lawrence; a sister, Mildred Kirk, Lawrence; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Olathe. The funeral will be 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home. Bonnie Kathrens Bonnie S. Kathrens, 50, Olathe, died Sunday, June 25, 2000, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She was born May 20, 1950, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Robert and Irene (Tarwater) Savage. She had been a lifelong resident of Johnson County. She was preceded in death by a sister, Connie Thoele. Survivors include her husband, Bill Kathrens, of the home; a daughter, Angela Williams, Fort Carson, Colo.; an aunt, Corky Ibarra, Overland Park, Kan.; and a grandson, Zachary Williams. The memorial service will be 4 p.m. Wednesday at the W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Dale Kellogg Dale E. Kellogg, 43, Osawatomie, died Sunday, March 26, 2000, at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center, from injuries suffered in a motorcycle accident. He was born Jan. 13, 1957, in Paola, Kan., to Edward Kellogg and Helen Conner Swearingen. He grew up in Osawatomie and the Independence area before moving with his parents back to the Paola area when he was 12. He then attended schools in the Paola area and was a 1975 graduate of Paola High School. He worked for AT&T for eight years as a construction technician, before going into business for himself. He bought and restored area homes until his death. He was a member of the Eagles in Paola. Preceding him in death was a younger brother, Jerry Swearingen. Survivors include his companion, Jo Gray, Beagle, Kan.; his mother and stepfather, Helen and Norman Swearingen, Paola; his father, Edward Kellogg, Osawatomie; a brother, Joe Kellogg, Joplin, Mo.; a sister, Rene Kellogg, Hillsdale, Kan.; a stepbrother, Troy Swearingen, Hutchinson, Kan.; and four uncles, Charles and Bud Kellogg, both of Rich Hill, Mo., and Buck and Jim Conner, both of Osawatomie. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Paola. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 30, at the Assembly of God Church, Paola. Rita Kelly Rita Frances Kelly, 69, Gardner, died Sunday, May 21, 2000, at her home. She was a lifelong area resident. She was born Dec. 12, 1930, in Gardner to John Joseph Rothwell and Ethel Leona Bechler Rothwell. She was a 1949 graduate of Gardner High School. She attended Benedictine College and Emporia Teaching College, earning a teaching certificate. She taught elementary school and was a homemaker from 1948 to 1952. She married Roger Dean Kelly June 27, 1953, in Gardner. She was self-employed, making crafts, quilting, and painting cabin folk art with her husband Roger. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner, and a member of its choir and Church Altar Society. She also was a member of the Quilters Guild of Miami County, and the Friday Friends of Gardner. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph Gerard Kelly, in 1987. Survivors include her husband, Roger Kelly, of the home; three sons, Jeffrey Dean Kelly, Lebo, Kan., Phillip Vernon Kelly, Wichita, and John Bartley Kelly, Bonner Springs; three daughters, Jean Evans, Olathe, Jennifer Lapp, Orlando, Fla., and Karen Thurston, Raleigh, N.C.; three brothers, John Rothwell and Jerome Rothwell, both of Gardner, and James Rothwell, Bonner Springs; two sisters, Mary Guenther, Gardner, and Rose Patterson, Rantoul, Kan.; and 11 grandchildren. Billy Kendrick Billy Ray Kendrick, 37, Parsons, died Monday, May 1, at the Via Christi Regional Medical Center, St. Joseph Campus, in Wichita. He was born Sept. 27, 1962, in Monroe, La., the son of Josh Kendrick Sr. and Casseal (Ford) Kendrick. He lived in Louisiana until he was 14, when his family moved to Parsons, where he attended school. He was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church in Parsons. He was preceded in death by a sister, Gloria Kendrick, Dec. 26, 1997. Survivors include four brothers, David Mosley Sr. and Steve Kendrick, both of Parsons, and Josh Kendrick Jr. and Lesley Kendrick, both of Olathe; and six sisters, Cassie May Mosley, Pittsburg, Calif., Trebie Harris, Effie Collins, Ola Kendrick and Rose Anderson, all of Parsons, and Mary Ann Jameson, Olathe. Visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Parsons. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the funeral home. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Eddie Kennedy Eddie L. Kennedy, 81, Olathe, died Saturday, May 20, 2000, at the Overland Park Regional Hospital. He was born Jan. 1, 1919, at his family's farm in Lewis, Kan. He was a member and past and worthy president of Fraternal Order of Eagles, aerie No. 3191, in Bonner Springs; a member of Operating Engineers local No. 101 for 40 years; and a World War II veteran. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Beulah O'Neal Kennedy, of the home; two sons, LeRoy Kennedy, Oak Grove, Mo., and Darell Kennedy, Oklahoma City; two daughters, Lynda Grinnell and Sherry Garvey, both of Olathe; a brother, Merle Kennedy, Platte, Kan; two sisters, Mary Stanley of Sedgwick, Kan., and Valeria Smith, Gunniston, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 23, at the Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon prior to the service at the W.L. John Kern John Carl Kern, 92, Olathe, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Villa St. Francis. He was native New Yorker and was born Jan. 3, 1909, in New York, N.Y. He retired from the Met Life Insurance Company of New York City, and had lived in Kansas for the past 26 years. He was a Naval veteran of World War II. Before enlisting in the Navy, he was a member of the New York State Guard and an air raid warden. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Thelma; three sons, Jack R. Kern, Olathe, David E. Kern, Long Island, N.Y., and Richard L. Kern, Shawnee; and a grandson. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Park Lawn Funeral Home, Kansas City, Mo. Burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Marion Kesl Marion B. (Barbour) Kesl, 98, Salina, died Wednesday, June 27, 2000, at Salina Presbyterian Manor. She was born Jan. 4, 1902, in Pittsburg, and had lived most of her life in Johnson County until moving to the Salina Presbyterian Manor in 1980. She was a graduate of Olathe High School and of Kansas State University. She married John Kesl Jr., who preceded her in death in 1989. She was a home economics teacher. She was a member of the Westport Presbyterian Church in Kansas City, Mo. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Newell Barbour. Survivors include a nephew, Reed Barbour, Olathe; a niece, Dorothy Sinderson, Pittsburgh, Pa; and a sister-in-law, Viola Barbour, Olathe. Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today. The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salina Presbyterian Manor. Rodney Kever Rodney A. Kever, 15, DeSoto, died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in DeSoto. He was born Nov. 13, 1984, in Camp LeJeune, N.C. He had lived in California for 11 years; in Woodbridge, Va., for three years; and in DeSoto, while his father was in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a student at DeSoto High School. Survivors include his parents, Melvin and Debra Kever, DeSoto; a sister, Misty Kay King, Olathe; his grandparents, Richard and Norma Granger, DeSoto, and Charlessa Seward and T.J. Thompson, Kansas City, Mo.; his godparents, Steve and Lori Shay, Hubert, N.C.; seven aunts; five uncles; and numerous cousins. The visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., and the funeral will be 8 p.m., Friday, May 12, at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, DeSoto. Joan Key Joan P. Key, 56, Wellsville, died Thursday, Aug. 10, 2000, at the University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. She had lived in Wellsville for the past 24 years, and had previously lived in Gardner for two years and in Edgerton for five years. She was born July 8, 1944, in Eureka, Kan., the daughter of James Arlie Rodman and Frances (Carlisle) Rodman. She was a 1962 graduate from Toronto High School and was a graduate of the Wichita School of Business. She married Walter Key on Oct. 6, 1963, in Toronto. She was a housewife. For the past four years, she owned a dog kennel, raising basset hounds and King Cavalier spaniels. She was a member and full-time minister of the Ottawa congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses and a former member of the Olathe congregation. She also was a member of the American Kennel Club. Survivors include her husband, Walter, of the home; a son, Brandon Key, Ottawa; two daughters, Dana Richardson and Denise Smith, both of Wellsville; her father, James A. Rodman, Toronto; a brother, Dale Rodman, Minnetonka, Minn.; two sisters, Kay Sandburg, Oklahoma City, Okla., and Vicki Kunkel, Gardner; and three grandchildren. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 12, until the funeral service at the Dengel and Son Mortuary, Ottawa. The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 13, at the mortuary. Burial will be at the Wellsville Cemetery in Wellsville.
