Wilma Oberle
Wilma Irene Oberle, 81, Carbondale, died Saturday, Sept. 23, 2000, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.
She was born May 22, 1919, in Scranton, Kan., the daughter of Harry E. and Jane Kiley Norman. She graduated as valedictorian of her class from Scranton High School. She was a teacher most of her life. She was a member of the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. She was awarded the 50-year membership pin from the Kansas State Grange in 1999.
She married Laurence Peter Oberle in 1944. He preceded her in death in 1978. Her son, Norman Oberle, also preceded her in death, as did two brothers, James William Norman and Clayton Norman.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly Wittenborn, Olathe; and three grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m. at the Carbondale Church of Christian Fellowship. Burial will be at Shawnee Center Cemetery, Wakarusa, Kan.
Cheyenne Obrock
Cheyenne M. Obrock, 7, Olathe, died Tuesday, April 17, 2001, at Children's Mercy Hospital.
She was born Jan. 19, 1994, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Darby Pool and Andrea Obrock. She was a first-grader at Prairie Center Elementary School. She was a member of Brownie Troop No. 1205, and the Wheatland Tour Riders bike club where she was known as Wyoming.
Survivors include her mother Andrea Obrock, Olathe; her father, Darby Pool, Turner, Kan.; a sister, Sara Pool, Lee's Summit, Mo.; maternal grandparents, Karen and Stephen Obrock, Olathe; maternal great-grandparents, Clyde and Josephine Schwach, Billings, Mo., and Charles and Virginia Obrock, of Springfield, Mo.; paternal grandparents, Randy and Jamie Robertson, Overland Park, and Rod and Jan Pool, St. Joseph, Mo.; and paternal great-grandparents, Jim and Betty Pool, Tucson, Ariz., and Darlis Lee, of Raytown, Mo.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory. A Mass of Christian burial is set for 10 a.m. Friday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe. Burial at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery.
A trust fund is set up in Cheyenne's name at The First National Bank of Olathe, P.O. Box 1500, Olathe, KS 66061-1500.
Inez Odle
1912-2000
Funeral services for Inez E. Odle, Kansas City, Kan., were Wednesday, Aug. 9, at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial was at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Odle died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000, at Johnson County Nursing Center.
She was born Oct. 9, 1913, Hiwasse, Ark., the daughter of Elmer Todd and Clara Sheriff dle. She lived in the Kansas City area since 1944.
She was a homemaker and a member of Rosedale Congregational Church. Her husband, William Odle, preceded her in death in 1944.
Survivors include two sons, Ron Odle, Kingman, Ariz., and Dana Odle, Shawnee; two daughters, Rosie Inman, DeSoto, and Glenna Odle, Olathe; two brothers, Jim Todd and Joe Todd, both of Kingman, Ariz.; two sisters, Barbara Parker, Orand, Ala., and Betty Prock, Casa Grande, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family suggests memorials to Rosedale Congregational Church.
Darien Olson
Darien Cameron Olson, age 1 month, 12 days, died Friday, Feb. 4, at the St. Louis Children's Hospital, St. Louis.
Olson was born Dec. 23, 1999, in Olathe and lived in Spring Hill.
Survivors include his mother, Bethany L. Olson, Spring Hill; grandparents Rhonda Davis, Spring Hill, and Olin Olson, Rantoul, Kan.; and maternal great grandparents, Rusty Stamper, Olathe, and Elbert Stamper, Paola.
Graveside services will be held 3 pm. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Spring Hill Cemetery, Spring Hill. Burial will follow.

Robert O'Malley
Robert "Rob" Dean O'Malley, 33, Wellsville, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 2000, in rural Franklin County as a result of a motor-vehicle accident.
He was born Sept. 9, 1967, in Olathe, the son of Robert I. O'Malley and Judith Marie Morrison O'Malley, Spring Hill. He was a Spring Hill resident for most of his life. He lived in Wellsville for the last three years.
He was a 1986 graduate of Spring Hill High School. He was a welder at Haven Steel, Ottawa. He had been a self-employed welder and plumber and was a newspaper carrier for The Kansas City Star and Ottawa Herald.
Survivors include his parents; one son, Jared Dean O'Malley, Wellsville; one daughter, Chelsea Michelle O'Malley, Wellsville; two sisters, Shannon Marie Madl and Megan Kristine Hewett, both of Spring Hill; great-grandmother, Lillian Morrison, Spring Hill; and fiance Susan Carpenter, Wellsville.
Graveside services will be11:30 a.m. today at the Spring Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. untilr service time at the Bruce Funeral Home, Spring Hill.

Elizabeth Ordway
Elizabeth C. Ordway, 87, Plainville, died Monday, Nov. 13, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Feb. 8, 1913, in Ellis County, Kan., the daughter of Ida May King and Fred A. Bemis. She married Victor R. Ordway in 1932 at Hays. He died in 1992.
Most of her life was spent in the Plainville area where the couple raised their family. During the last three years, she has lived with her daughters in Eureka and Olathe.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Ralph Bemis, and a grandson, Rodney Dean.
Survivors include three children, Robert Ordway, Iselin, N.J.; Geraldine Linenberger, Eureka,; and Linda Evans, Olathe; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and one step grandchild.
The visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday at the Plainville Funeral Home. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Christian Church, Plainville. Interment will be in the Plainville Cemetery.
Tommy Orender
Tommy Jean "Tom" Orender, 84, of Ottawa, died Thursday, Dec. 28, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 30, 1916, in Kansas City, Mo., the son of Marion Edward Orender and Grace Viola (Williams) Orender. He lived in Ottawa since 1971. He grew up in Kansas City, Kan., moving to Overland Park in 1929 and Bonita, Kan., in 1958.
He attended Kansas City, Kan. schools. He married Lovenia Agnes Dierking, Nov. 19, 1939, in Overland Park. He was a farmer and worked as a boiler maker and welder for Phillips Petroleum in Kansas City, Kan., for 40 years, retiring in 1974.
He served as a private in the infantry of the United States Army during World War II receiving the World War II Victory Medal. He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Ottawa, and formerly Overland Park Assembly of God.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Jerome Edward Orender and Jimmy M. Orender and one sister, Maxel Nadine Apostle.
He is survived by his wife, Lovenia Agnes Orender, of the home; one daughter, Darlene Joan Colwell, Ottawa; one granddaughter, Donita Lynn Callahan, Ottawa; two grandsons, Duane Michael Colwell, Osage City; and Daniel Jean Colwell, Ottawa; three great-grandchildren, Michelle Colwell, Stephanie Colwell, and Ryan Colwell, all of Ottawa.
He will lie in state at Dengel and Son Mortuary after 5 p.m. Saturday, 1 p.m. Sunday and 1 p.m. Monday, where the family will meet with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening. Funeral services will be held at the First Assembly of God Church, 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2. Flag presentation and honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post No. 5901, Ottawa. Burial will be at Lawrence Memorial Park Cemetery, Lawrence.

Robert Osborne
Robert R. Osborne, 97, Olathe business executive and philanthropist, died Thursday, April 26, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.
He was born in 1904 near DeSoto. He left the farm to become a banker in Olathe in the 1920s. He served as president of Patrons Bank in Olathe (now Bank of America) from 1959 to 1969. He served as a member of that board from 1937 to 1990 and was the chairman from 1968 through 1979. He was president and board member of Mission State Bank from 1944 to 1958. He was an incorporator of Roeland Park State Bank (now Mercantile Bank) and a board member of State Bank of Stanley for many years.
In 1973, he was the recipient of the Baker University Award of Appreciation as a member of the President's Club. He received the Baker University Distinguished Service Award in 1979. In 1979, he contributed $250,000 to establish the Robert Rebstock and Clarice Dicken Osborne Endowed Chair in Religious Studies. In 1995, he gave a $1 million gift to Baker for the relocation and reconstruction of a 132-year-old Sproxton, England, Methodist chapel on the Baker campus. The chapel is named the Clarice L. Osborne Memorial Chapel, in memory of Osborne's late wife. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Olathe.
Mr. Osborne provided the original acreage for the MidAmerica Nazarene College (now MidAmerica Nazarene University) in Olathe. In 1972, he was the recipient of the Quadrennial Award for Education from the Church of the Nazarene and MidAmerica Nazarene College. He received an honorary doctorate degree from the college in 1977. The R.R. Osborne Administration Building was named in his honor in 1986.
He was a member of the Board of Regents of Rockhurst College, Kansas City, Mo., for eight years. He was a member of Rockhurst Honorary Director's Association from 1958 to 2001.
He was associated with the Olathe Medical Center since its inception in 1952. The R.R. Osborne Conference Center was named in his honor. He was a member of the Olathe Hospital Foundation Inc. He served on the Hospital Board of Trustees from 1953 to 1973 and served as building committee chairman, treasurer and chairman of the finance committee for 13 years. In 1993, he was the recipient of the Olathe Health Foundation/Olathe Medical Center Humanitarian Award.
He was the recipient of the American Cancer Society Excalibur Award and was an active proponent of the American Heart Association.
He received the "Friends of Children" award from the Kansas Association of Licensed Private Child Care Agencies in 1994 through nomination by Temporary Lodging for Children in Olathe. He was the primary reason two new homes were built for Temporary Lodging for Children in 1993.
In 1995, he was the recipient of the Olathe Good Samaritan Center Award for Dedication and Service to Olathe and its citizens through continued support of the ministry of the Olathe Good Samaritan Center.
He was a member of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce for more than 72 years. In 1967, he was named "Mr. Olathe" by the chamber for his personal service and leadership. He received the "1996 Citizen of the Year Award" and the "Lifetime Achievement Award" in January 1997.
Mr. Osborne was the recipient of the 1958 city of Mission, Kan., Award of "Evidence of foresight, planning and outstanding achievement in the growth and development of the city of Mission."
In 1984, he was the recipient of the John T. Barton Award from the city of Olathe for his service to the community. He was the recipient in 1995 of the Olathe Community Pride Award presented by the city of Olathe for appreciation for his role in the development of an outstanding image for the Olathe community.
In 1995, he contributed $350,000 to Olathe District Schools for the renovation project of the former John P. St. John High School Auditorium named the R.R. Osborne Performing Arts Center when completed in 1996.
He was the 1996 recipient of the Service to Mankind Award presented by the Olathe Pioneer Sertoma Club.
He was also honored in 1996 with the Johnson County's Community Services Milton E. Erickson Citizen of the Year Award for volunteer leadership and dedication in the field of human services.
He was named Philanthropist of the Year by the Greater Kansas City Council on Philanthropy in 1997. He also was a member of the Greater Kansas City Council on Philanthropy.
In 1997, he was awarded the Stanley S. Kresge Award for Philanthropy from the United Methodist Foundation for Christian Higher Education.
He was the recipient of the 1998 Friends of Education Community Leader Award of Excellence presented by The Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force.
Mr. Osborne contributed $700,000 to the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop and Farm Foundation and Olathe Historical Society to be used toward construction of the proposed Mahaffie Visitor Center/Olathe Historical Society Museum in Olathe.
He was honored as a 75-year member by the Masonic Grand Lodge of Kansas in October 1999 when the Olathe Masonic Lodge celebrated its 140th anniversary. He was a member of Olathe Lodge AF&AM.
He also was a strong supporter of the Olathe Salvation Army, the Salvation Army's Johnson County Family Lodge program, the Olathe Project Graduation Foundation, Heart to Heart International, the Johnson County YMCA, the Olathe Art Alliance, Cedar House Inc., Safe Homes Inc., Catholic Charities and many more.
He was named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Olathe Rotary Club, and was a member of Rotary International since 1959.
A strong supporter of youth, he was the recipient of the America Award as Guardian of Scouting; the Service Award from the Girl Scouts of America; and the Silver Medallion Award from the Kansas 4-H Foundation.
He was the 1963 recipient of the Soil Conservation Banker Award in Johnson County. He farmed throughout his professional life.
He is credited with attracting the Federal Aviation Administration Flight Control Center and the Delco Battery plant (now Delphi) to the city of Olathe, enterprises that have provided hundreds of jobs over the years.
He was the former 50-year owner of the R.R. Osborne Insurance Agency and served as president and director of numerous corporations. His recent interests included support of the Kansas Educational Foundation Deaf Culture Center.
He also was a member of the Friends of the Olathe Public Library and Friends of the Johnson County Museum.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Clarice L. Osborne, on Dec. 11, 1990.
Survivors include two nieces, Esther E. Ellis, DeSoto, and Helen A. Osborne, Olathe; and one nephew, Donald V. Osborne, Overland Park.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Grace United Methodist Church, 115th Street and Ridgeview Road in Olathe. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Olathe. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Gilbert Ott
Gilbert Dwight Ott, 70, Warsaw, Ind., formerly of Olathe, died unexpectedly Monday, June 5, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 30, 1930, in New Paris, Ind., to Floyd and Emma Katherine (Goppert) Ott. He was U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He lived in Olathe from 1958 to 1988. He was a drill-press operator and had worked at his trade for more than 30 years in Olathe; he also had worked at the Maple Leaf Duck Farm in Milford, Kan. A retiree, he moved back to Warsaw in 1988. Although retired, he was working as a custodian at Washington Elementary School in Warsaw. He was a member of the New Hope Free Will Baptist Church, Warsaw.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Orrion, John and Delbert Ott.
Survivors include two sisters, Peg Miller and Mary E. Blue, both of Warsaw; and a stepsister, Marilyn Tuvell, Ligonier, Ind.
The visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Yoder-Culp Funeral Home, Goshen, Ind. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Oakridge Cemetery, Goshen.

Jack Owens
Jack Owens, 73, of Olathe, died Friday, March 23, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 16, 1928, in Kansas City, Kan., and was a resident there most of his life. He was a diesel mechanic for 28 years for Hercules, retiring in 1993.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a member of VFW Post No. 6401.
He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth Allen Owens.
Survivors include a son, Vernon Owens, of Olathe; daughter Jackie Owens of Olathe; six brothers and sisters, Dorothy Kiefer of Warsaw, Mo., Rosemary Schoch of Overland Park, Charles Owens Jr. of Laurie, Mo., Patricia Brockleman of Wichita, Robert Owens of Bonner Springs and Anna Mae Saunders of Kansas City, Kan.; and a granddaughter.
Friends may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at the Porter Funeral Home, Kansas City, Kan.
