Amy Pierron
Amy Dennis Pierron, 48, Olathe, died Monday, Sept. 25, 2000, after a long battle with complications from a stroke.
She was born and reared in St. Louis, Mo., the middle child of Selma Dennis and the late Sidney Dennis, founder of the Dennis Chemical Company of St. Louis. She received an undergraduate degree in urban studies in 1974 from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio.
She was a graduate of the University of Kansas School of Nursing and was a staff registered nurse at the Olathe Medical Center for 18 years.
In July 1996, she received an award from the Intellectual Freedom Roundtable of the American Library Association for helping Olathe students fight a successful legal battle that barred the Olathe District Schools from removing copies of a controversial book, "Annie On My Mind," from school libraries.
In June, she received a special service award from the Olathe Community Theater Association, for her many years on the association's Board of Directors. She also helped found and promote the first Hidden Glen Arts Festival, and helped organize benefits for the Deaf Cultural Center and the Olathe Area Chamber of Commerce.
She was a cantorial soloist and choir member of Congregation Beth Torah, Overland Park. She was a member of the Drama Mamas, a group that helps locate resources, props and costumes for Olathe East High School theatrical productions; a Cub Scout den mother; a past president of the Olathe Junior Service League; a Paul Harris Fellow of the Olathe Rotary Club; and founder of several local gourmet cooking and supper clubs.
Survivors include her husband, G. Joseph "Joe" Pierron Jr., an appellate judge with the Kansas Court of Appeals, of the home; two sons, Sam Pierron, 23, Liverpool, England, and Dan Pierron, 16, of the home; a daughter, Abby Pierron, 19, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her mother, Selma Dennis, St. Louis; a brother, Harold Dennis, Boston, Mass.; and a sister, Elinor Jacobson, Milwaukee, Wis.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. today at Congregation Beth Torah, Overland Park. Burial will be at Mount Moriah Cemetery, Kansas City, Mo.

Alfred Pingleton
Alfred Garland Pingleton, 88, DeSoto, died Saturday, Jan. 15, at his home.
Pingleton was born Sept. 5, 1911, in Alton, Mo., the son of George Washington and Evalina Boze Pingleton.
Pingleton moved to DeSoto in 1951 to trap for coyotes at the Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant.
He also supplied zoos with trapped bobcats, foxes and wolves. He was a horse trainer, and he was known as the local "horse doctor" in DeSoto. In his youth, Pingleton broke, trained and showed Tennessee walking horses in the southern states. He also served as the dog catcher for DeSoto.
He spent 30 years working for Cement Finishers Local No. 518. He donated many hours finishing concrete sidewalks in DeSoto, as well as doing the concrete work in and around the DeSoto Baptist Church.
He was an active member of the DeSoto Baptist Church.
Preceding him in death were his parents, George Washington and Evalina Boze Pingleton; a daughter, Phyllis Pingleton; four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include four sons, Phillip Pingleton, Estes Park, Colo., David Pingleton, Austin, Texas, Charles Pingleton, Marshfield, Mo., Paul Pingleton, DeSoto; a daughter, Lana McPherson, DeSoto; three brothers, James Pingleton, St. Louis, Mo., Max Pingleton, Poplar Bluff, Mo., Don Pingleton, Alton, Mo.; two sisters, Georgia Wynn, Kahokia, Ill., Freda Webber, Eureka, Mo.;15 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at DeSoto Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Shawnee Mission Memorial Gardens, Shawnee.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at DeSoto Baptist Church.

Carl Pittman Sr.
Carl L. Pittman Sr., 61, Olathe, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000, in Omaha, Neb. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 15, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Friday, July 14, at the chapel.
Mr. Pittman was born in Kansas City, Mo., and lived on the Kansas side most of his life. He was the owner of Carl Pittman Moving and Storage for 20 years and for the last 20 years contracted as an owner-operator for Beltmann North American Van Lines.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Pittman, of the home; a son, Carl L. Pittman, Jr., Leawood, Kan.; three daughters, Cheryl Pittman-McIntosh, Olathe; Carla Marrs and Christina Cunningham, both of Sugar Creek, Mo.; eight brothers, Alvin, Bill, Don, Earl, Gene, Glen, Harold, and Raymond; three sisters, Dorothy Flowers, Gladys Cobb, and Mary Lou Earls, and five grandchildren.

Gary Pittman
Gary Dale Pittman, 51, Olathe, died March 11, 2000, at Overland Park Medical Center.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2000, at 151st Street Church of Christ, 13875 W. 151st Street, Olathe. Memorial contributions may be made to the family in care of the church.
Mr. Pittman was born March 30, 1948, and was a lifelong resident of Olathe. He graduated from Olathe North High School in 1966. He was a member and deacon of the 151st Street Church of Christ, a member of the American Kite Association, and a member and recently elected president of the Kansas City Kite Club. He was the co-owner and operator of Pittman Wallpapering.
He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip D. Pittman.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Sue Whaley Pittman, of the home; his mother, Mary Jean Milligan, Olathe; a son, Kevin Dale Pittman, Olathe; a daughter, Amber Faulkenberry of Excelsior Springs, Mo.; a brother, Roger Montgomery, Seattle; and two grand-daughters.

Ethel Poage
Ethel Irene Poage, 78, Osawatomie, Kan., formerly of Lane, Kan., died Monday, Feb. 12, 2001, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe.
She was born Dec. 30, 1922, in Almena, Kan. She was one of eight children born to William Henry and Ida Mae McClain Shearer. She attended Almena grade schools and Prairie View High School in Prairie View, Kan.
She married Lloyd Eugene Poage Jan. 12, 1939, in Norton, Kan., and they had eight children. They lived in Norton, Kan. and McCook, Neb., before moving to the Kansas City area in 1959. She worked for Vile Gollar as a book binder in Kansas City, Kan., before retiring in 1987. They moved to Lane in 1974 where they lived until Lloyd's death on March 11, 1996. She then moved to Osawatomie.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one son, Donald Poage in 1997, four brothers and one sister.
Survivors include six sons: Robert Poage, Paola; Raymond Poage, Fontana, Kan.; Loyal James Poage, Atlantic Beach, Fla.; Larry Poage, Osawatomie; Terry L. Poage, Las Vegas; and Kevin L. Poage, Gardner; one daughter: Rebecca A. Woods, Paola; one brother: Merle Shearer, Almena; one sister: Madeline Stamper, Norton; 22 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Visitation was Wednesday. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Paola. Burial will follow at the Lane Cemetery, Lane, Kan.
Martin Poe Sr.
Martin Thearon Poe Sr., 86, of Edgerton, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000, at Good Samaritan Home in Olathe.
He was born Aug. 6, 1914, in Fort Worth, Texas. He moved to the Gardner- Edgerton area in 1954 from Kansas City, Kan. When he was a child, his family lived in a sod house near Wynoka, Okla.
He worked for KC Terminal Railway for 33 years, first as a fireman on a steam locomotive and later as a locomotive engineer. He retired in 1975. He also worked as an independent coal hauler for Barnett Coal Co.
He was a member of Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen and Enginemen and served as local president for several years. He was a member of Masonic Order A and FM, was past grand master of the Rosedale Lodge, a member of Gardner Lodge No. 65, was a 32nd degree Mason, and a member of Abdullah Shrine in Overland Park.
He attended Manual Trade School in Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Martha Alice Murphy Poe, in 1992; parents, Guy Levi Poe and MaryLou Jane Roberts Poe; five brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Hull, Lawrence, and Anita Poe, Edgerton; two sons, Martin (Bud) T. Poe Jr., Grand Rapids, Mich., and Jerry Poe, Hutchinson; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Bruce Funeral Home in Gardner. Family will visit with friends after the service. There will be a private family inurnment. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the funeral home.

Clara Pope
Clara Irene Pope, 78, Olathe, formerly of Kansas City, Kan., died Friday, Sept. 22, 2000, at the Villa St. Francis Long-Term Care Center, Olathe.
She was born in the Argentine area of Kansas City, Kan., and had lived there until July 1999.
She was a member of the Four Square Gospel Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Wallace Pope; and a brother, Walter Hall.
Survivors include two daughters, Marsha L. Williams, Kansas City, Kan., and Nikki Kyger, Olathe; a sister, Betty Kent, Kansas City, Kan.; two grandsons; a step-grandson; five step-granddaughters; and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Maple Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.

George Popkess
George F. Popkess, 83, Olathe, died April 29, 2001, at Good Samaritan Nursing Center in Olathe.
George was born July 13, 1917, in Toronto, Kan., the son of Matilda Jane Talbot Russell and George F. Popkess. He attended Pittsburg College and was a member of Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity. He was a World War II veteran, serving more than three years with the 553rd postal unit in Europe.
He came to Kansas City in the '50s and was employed by Beryl Berry Motors in sales, Brace Oldsmobile, and Griffith Oldsmobile. He was part owner of Hammons-Popkess Lincoln Mercury in Olathe. After his retirement, he became a crossing guard at Havencroft Elementary School in Olathe.
Survivors include his wife, Betty J. Popkess, Olathe; two daughters, Barbara Popkess, Kansas City, Mo., and Elizabeth "Tizzie" Popkess, Stilwell; a sister, Melba Benoit, Overland Park; and a half-brother, Leon Russell of Independence, Kan.
Visitation is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. tonight at W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Joseph Pospichal
GLADSTONE, Mo. - Joseph Thomas Pospichal, 85, Gardner, Kan., died Monday, June 4, 2001, at Woodbine Nursing Center in Gladstone, Mo.
He was born Oct. 27, 1915, in Omaha, Neb. He grew up in Omaha, Neb. and moved to Baltimore, Md. in 1939, and then to Washington, D.C. in 1941. He was later transferred to Kansas City, Mo., and lived in Olathe, Kan. and Gardner. He was a 1934 graduate of Technical High School in Omaha, and attended Kansas City University, Kansas City, Mo.
He was a group supervisor and tax accountant for the Internal Revenue Service from 1941 to 1972. He also worked for the Social Security Administration in Baltimore. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gardner. He achieved Grand Knight status in Knights of Columbus, Kansas City, Mo., and served as coordinator of the Archdiocese building fund in the 1960s. He also was active in the National Association of Retired Federal Employees and the Boy Scouts as a troop leader.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Ada LaVanda Powell Pospichal, whom he married on Sept. 11, 1937 in Omaha, and a sister, Eleanor Lindequist.
He is survived by a son, Thomas Joseph Pospichal, Fairfax, Va.; a daughter, Carol Ann Inman, Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Lester Pospichal, Omaha; three sisters, Betty Heida, Omaha, Evelyn Henweck, Palmdale, Calif., and Bernice Benak, Arcadia, Calif.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gardner. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Olathe. The rosary will be said at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Margaret Potts
Margaret Potts, 85, Louisburg, died Saturday, Nov. 18, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center, Olathe.
She was born March 27, 1915, in Cherry Lane Township, Olathe, the daughter of Alex Chesney and Catherine Reville Chesney.
She married James Potts on April 20, 1962, in Miami, Okla. They were together 29 years before his death on July 12, 1991. In addition to being a wife and mother, she was a cook at the Louisburg High School. In her spare time, she enjoyed oil painting, crocheting and traveling.
She was a member of the Louisburg Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James, and a daughter, Melanie Rose Lank.
Survivors include two sons, Thomas Lank, and wife Mary, Mesa, Ariz., and Norman Lane, and wife, Sharron, Vero Beach, Fla.; a stepson Rocky Potts, Louisburg; a daughter, Catherine Blair ,and husband, J.T., Louisburg; three brothers, Emanuel Chesney, Daniel Chesney and John Chesney, all of Olathe; two sisters, Katie Rehorn, Santa Fe, N.M., and Estelle Burke, Olathe; an adopted grandson, Michael Bartrum and wife, Jennifer, and two children; 13 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at the Louisburg Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Harold Smith officiating. Interment will be at the Louisburg Cemetery.

Joe Powell
Joe E. Powell, 86, of DeSoto, died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at his home.
He was born Sept. 1, 1914, in Milford, Texas. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a scout in the infantry, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and the battle of Hertgen Forest.
He was a winter Texan, and a member of the Penitas Baptist Church, Penitas, Texas. He enjoyed his rose and cactus gardens, his dogs, hunting, and water skiing from his boat. He liked taking trips in the RV, traveling to Alaska, Mexico, and Colorado. He was a foster father to more than 20 children.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ess and Addie Mae (DeVore) Powell; and his wife of 57 years, Betty (Sears) Powell, in 1998.
Survivors include two daughters, Stephanie Powell, DeSoto; and Joy Grace, Indianapolis, Ind.; a sister, Mae Van Miranov, Enid, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 26, at the DeSoto Baptist Church.

Donald Powers
Donald L. Powers, 64, Olathe, died Friday, May 5, 2000, at his home.
He was born June 11, 1935, in Seymour, Ind, the son of Ann (Conrad) Eastin.
He lived in Olathe for 17 years.
He was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe. He was district deputy No. 10 for the Knights of Columbus, St. Paul's Parish Council No. 1913; and a fourth-degree member of Knights of Columbus, St. Phillipine DuChesne Assembly. He also was past grand knight, St. Paul's Parish; past faithful navigator, St. Phillipine DuChesne; and member of the honor guard, St. Phillipine DuChesne. He retired in 1998.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henrey Conrad.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Powers, of the home; his mother, Ann Eastin, of Seymore, Ind.; three sons, Gregory Scott Powers, San Diego, Brent Warren Powers, Portland, Maine, Curtis Timothy Powers, Overland Park; a stepson, Raymond James Calore Jr., Paola; three stepdaughters, Katherine Corrine Calore, Mt. Vernon, Mo., Carole Jean Calore, Emporia, and Anne Marie Calore, Lenexa; and seven grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at W.L. Frye & Son Mortuary and Crematory, with a rosary being said at 7 p.m. Burial will be scheduled at a later date.

Lora Priest
Lora A. Priest, 15, of Olathe died Saturday at Children's Mercy Hospital.
She was born Jan. 22, 1985, in Overland Park, and had lived in Olathe all of her life. She was a sophomore at Olathe South High School. She was working for his father's business as receptionist at Townsquare Hair in Olathe.
She was a member of Vista Baptist Church in Olathe.
Survivors include her parents, Richard and Gail Priest, of the home; a brother, Tim Priest, Williamsburg, Kan.; a sister, Judy Sandow, Olathe; paternal grandfather, Chester Priest, Belle Vista, Ark.; and a niece and a nephew.

Mary Primm
Mary M. Primm, 96, Olathe, died Monday, Aug. 21, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Jan. 24, 1904, at Purcell, Kan., the daughter of George Washington and Eva Mesella (Caudle) Hutchison.
She graduated from Parsons High School and received her teaching certificate from Ottawa University. She started teaching at Old Rantoul, a one-room county school, where she taught her three children for two years. She taught in many country schools and was recognized as one of the best teachers in Johnson County. She retired from the Olathe school system after teaching 32 years. She was a member of the Olathe First Baptist Church and a past Noble Grand of Jewel Rebecca Lodge.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Carl William Primm Sr., who died March 18, 1995; three brothers, Noah W. Hutchison, James R. Hutchison and Albert B. Hutchison; and a sister, Beula R. Wilhite.
Survivors include a son, Carl W. Primm, Olathe; two daughters, Mary E. Taylor, Olathe, and Elaine D. Harding, Bonney Lake, Wash.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary, Olathe. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe.

Joel Pugh
Joel "Joe" Pugh, 22, of Stilwell, died Wednesday, Jen. 3, 2001, at the University of Kansas Medical Center after a 9-month battle with leukemia.
He was well known as an athlete; basketball and cross country were his favorites both at Blue Valley High School and MidAmerica Nazarene University.
Survivors include his parents, the Rev. Garald R. and Cara L. Pugh of the home; two brothers, Scott and wife Shanna Pugh of Olathe, and Steve Pugh of the home; a sister, Tonya and husband Keniston Peck of Olathe.; paternal grandparents, Winfred and Nadine Pugh of St. Charles, Mo.; a nephew, Branden Peck of Olathe; his best friend Jessica James; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and an absolute host of family, friends, teammates and admirers.
His Celebration of life Service will be 10 a.m. today at the College Church of the Nazarene (main sanctuary), 2020 E. Sheridan, Olathe.

Mary Purtteman
Mary Jane Purtteman, 83, Olathe, died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
She was born in Almena, Kan, the daughter of Austin and Mary Paxton Shelton. She lived in Western Kansas until she married Harry Purtteman and then lived in Washington state. She had lived in Olathe for eight years and was a resident of the Johnson County Nursing Center.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers George, Joel and Ralph Shelton.
She is survived by her brother, James and wife Rita Shelton, Olathe; sister-in-law, Margaret Shelton, Burlingame, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 28, at the First Baptist Church in Olathe. There is no visitation. Cremation. Burial will be at a later date in Snohomish, Was.
