Mabel Daly Sanford
Mabel Daly Sanford, 95, Overland Park, died Saturday, March 11, 2000, at The Atrium.
She was born July 11, 1904, in Topeka, \and moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1919. She was a graduate of Kansas City University of Kansas City, Kan., where she was a member of Lambda Delta Delta (Larks) Sorority.
She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, where she was formerly the pianist for the Wesley Class and a member of the Bell Choir. She was a former member of the Mozart Music Club of Kansas City, Kan. where she was the leader of the "Youth Mozart Music Group." She was a member of the Westheight Stitch Club, the Progress Study Club, and a former member of the Wyandotte County Dental Auxiliary. She was a teller for Interstate Federal Savings and Loan Association in Kansas City, Kan.
She was married to Dr. W. George Daly, who died in 1957, and was then married to O. Leroi Sanford, who died in 1985.
Survivors include a son, William George Daly Jr., Honolulu; a stepson, James L. Sanford, Olathe; seven grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, March 16, at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Overland Park. The funeral will be 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Overland Park.

John Sarras
John Sarras, 82, Olathe, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at his home.
He was born March 18, 1918, in Kansas City Kan., the son of Pete and Irene (Leondias) Sarras. He was raised in a Greek Orthodox church. He was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. He had moved to Olathe six years ago.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gus, Louie and James Sarras.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Ruby Sarras, of the home; two daughters, Catherine Middleton, Olathe, and Joan Sandren, Naples, Fla.; a brother, Michael Sarras, Kansas City, Kan.; a sister, Thespia Mermigas, Henderson, Nev.; and four granddaughters.
The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the New Hope Community Church Building Fund in Olathe, the America Heart Association or the American Cancer Association.

Earle Saunier
Earle Hunter Saunier, died Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at the Royal Terrace Nursing Home.
He was born April 4, 1913, in Muskegon, Mich., the son of Marcian Earle Saunier and Jennie Bond. He lived in Bay City, Mich., until 1956, when he and family moved to Pueblo, Colo. He was transferred to Baltimore in 1966, were he and his wife lived until he retired from the Social Security Administration in 1977. After his retirement, he moved to Sun City, Ariz. with his wife. In April of this year, he moved to Olathe to live with his daughter.
He served in the U.S. Navy from April 1944 to November 1945 as a quartermaster, third class.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah E. Scott Saunier.
Survivors include three daughters, Doris A. Rountree, Truth and Consequences, N.M.; Cynthia P. Miller, Olathe; and Wendy E. Miller, Alt, Colo., nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be at 7 p.m. today at the W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe. Burial will be Thursday, Dec. 22, in Sun City, Ariz.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Olathe Medical Center Hospice.
Charles Scaletty
Charles J. Scaletty, 91, Olathe, died at 1:25 p.m., Monday, Feb. 19, 2001, at Olathe Medial Center.
He was born Dec. 5, 1909, in Parsons, son of John and Mary (Aimonetti) Scaletty. He grew up and attended schools in Parsons. He also attended St. Mary's College in St. Mary's, Kan.
For many years, he was the owner and operator of Scaletty Hardware and Sheet Metal Co., which was founded by his father in 1902. His son, Paul, joined the company in 1970. He retired in 1975. He and his wife moved to Olathe on March 3, 2000, to be with their children.
He was a lifelong member of the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons. He was also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He played baseball with the Katy Twilight League and later was a pitcher in a farm league for the St. Louis Browns for one year. For several years, he was a little league coach for St. Mary's baseball team. He and Nadine Ford were married July 12, 1933, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Margaret.
He is survived by wife Nadine; four sons, Jim Scaletty and his wife, Pat, Kansas City, Mo.; Tom Scaletty, Chanute; Joe Scaletty, Olathe; and Paul Scaletty and his wife, Patty, Olathe. Fifteen grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Marie Scaletty, St. Louis; Alice Macke, Eden Prairie, Minn.; and Regina Dieck, Bellville, Ill.
Funeral mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 22 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Parsons. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the St. Patrick's Catholic School.
Nadine Scaletty
Nadine Scaletty, 88, a former longtime resident of Parsons, Kan., died Thursday, May 31, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center, Olathe, Kan.
She was born Nov. 9, 1912, in Webb City, Mo., the daughter of William "Shorty" Ford and Alma (Elder) Ford. She moved to Baxter Springs, Kan. with her sister Carolyn and mother after her father died when she was 11 years old. She then moved to Parsons, where she graduated from Parsons High School in 1929 and Parsons Junior College in 1931.
She married Charles J. Scaletty July 12, 1933 at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons. They moved to Olathe on March 3, 2000, to be near their children. He preceded her in death February 19, 2001.
In 1935, Nadine joined the Catholic Church and was active in the former St. Mary's Catholic Church in Parsons, and the St. Mary's Altar Society for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf, reading and spending time with her family.
Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Maier, Parsons; four sons, Jim Scaletty, Kansas City, Mo., Tom Scaletty, Chanute, Kan., Joe Scaletty and Paul Scaletty, both of Olathe; 15 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Parsons. Rosary will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the church where family will receive friends following the rosary. Friends may call at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home after 5 p.m. Saturday.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to either St. Patrick's Catholic School in Parsons or St. Patrick's Catholic School in Chanute.
Florence Schanze
Florence M. Schanze, 84, of Olathe died March 20 at her home.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1966; her parents, James and Mae Dell Kendall; and a brother, James Kendall II.
Survivors include a nephew, James Kendall III of Peculiar, Mo.; a niece, Sherry Denny of Flagstaff, Ariz.; and a cousin, Dorothy Haynes of Merriam, Kan.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. March 23 at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Olathe.

Beverly Schick
Beverly "Bev" Edward Schick, 78, Edgerton, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000, at his home.
He was born May 4, 1922, in Vinland, the son of Clarence Schick and Bertha Selby Schick. He spent his childhood in Vinland, then he lived in Mission. He had lived in Gardner and Edgerton areas since 1959.
He graduated from Vinland High School and attended one year of college in Eau Claire, Wis. He married Betty Lucille Carpenter Schick on Aug. 29, 1942, in Vinland. He worked in the steel industry from the late 1940s, retiring from B and S Steel in Fairfax in 1991. He also owned and operated farms in the Gardner and Edgerton areas and also in Ozark, Mo.
He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Stanley. He was a longtime member of Village Presbyterian Church.
He was in the U.S. Air Force from 1942 to 1945. In 1950, he joined the military reserves. He was ranked T-Sergeant in World War II.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Avier, Clifford and Selby.
Survivors include four sons, Michael Schick, Madison, Wis., Clifford Schick and Larry Schick, both of Gardner, and Gary Schick, Overland Park; three daughters, Kathleen Scollon, Lawrence, Nancy Kelley, Overland Park, and Rebecca Curtis, Olathe; and 18 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 11, at Presbyterian Church in Stanley. Burial with military services will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner.

Harold Schlagel
Harold E. Schlagel, 87, of Lenexa, died Saturday, Dec. 24, 2000, at Lakeview Village in Lenexa.
He was born June 2, 1913, in Lenexa, living in Johnson County all of his life, specifically Olathe and Lenexa. He went to high school at Holy Trinity Catholic School in Lenexa. He was a self-employed farmer/dairyman, retiring in 1991. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 35th Division Field Artillery.
He was a founding member, usher and Eucharistic minister of Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe. He was a former usher of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa as well as St. Paul's Catholic Church in Olathe. He served on the Farm Bureau Board for four years, two of which he served as president. He also served 25 years chairman of the Soil Conservation Board. He served on the Farmers Union Board for three years, and the Countryside School Board.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Pauline Schlagel; and two brothers, Ernest and Floyd Schlagel.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Anna Brulez Schagel, of the home; two sons, George J. and wife, Gale Schlagel, and Ralph E. and wife, Jil Schlagel, all of Olathe; two daughters, Ruth S. and husband, Richard Coyne, Lake Oswego, Ore., and Theresa S. and husband, Phil Cogswell, Olathe; and 12 grandchildren.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 29, at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the church where there rosary will said at 7 p.m. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Lenexa.

Veralee Schlagel
Veralee Schlagel, 83, Olathe, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was born May 30, 1917, the daughter of Nathan and Estella (Adams) Towner. Her parents homesteaded ground in the area in 1860.
She was a lifelong resident of Olathe, and a graduate of Olathe High School in 1935. She was a member of the Olathe Medical Center Auxiliary for more than 25 years, and was one of the founders of the gift shop. She was a member of the PEO for 25 years, 4-H leader, an Olathe Mammography Clinic volunteer, and worked for many years as a secretary for State Farm Insurance.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Paul Schlagel, of the home; two daughters, Mary Ann Metzger, Medford, Ore., and Janice Claerhout, Princeton, Kan.; sister, Nora Patton, Olathe; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home in Olathe. A prayer service will be 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Mary Lou Schlesener
Mary Lou Schlesener, 73, of Olathe died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 10, 1927, in DeSoto, the daughter of Charles and Gladys (Howe) Letcher. She was a lifelong resident of the area, and a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church, Olathe.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Survivors include her husband, Harry Schlesener, of the home; daughter, Janet Ellsworth and husband, Phil, Shawnee; brother, Charles W. Letcher, Kingswood, Texas; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m., Monday, Dec. 18, at the W.L. Frye and Son Mortuary and Crematory, Olathe. Friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Stanley.

Victor Schlup
BALDWIN CITY, KS Victor E. Schlup, 69, Baldwin City, died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2000, at his home. He had moved to rural Baldwin City 12 years ago, after having lived in Lawrence since 1960.
He was born Oct. 28, 1930, in Strong City, Kan., the son of Walter Albert and Lena Esther (Morse) Schlup. He married Barbara Bollinger, who died in 1955. He married Louise Smith on April 30, 1960, in Geary, Ind.
He was an ironworker for Local No. 10 of Kansas City, and helped build several buildings on the University of Kansas campus. He worked in the Lawrence, Kansas City and Chicago, Ill., areas. He worked for Steel Constructors in Kansas City for 12 years, until his retirement in 1992.
He was a member of the Lone Star Church of the Brethren. He recently was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame.
He also was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale and Floyd; and a grandson, Jason Burton.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Schlup, of the home; two sons, Jeff Bollinger, Torrance, Calif., and Gene Bollinger, Morena Valley, Calif.; two daughters, Sharon Condon, Olathe, and Sue Hendricks, Laramie, Wyo.; three brothers, John Schlup, Lawrence, Richard "Dick" Schlup, Emporia, and Ted Schlup, Edwards, Mo.; a sister, Audrey Fellman, Topeka; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Warren-McElwain Mortuary, Lawrence. The funeral will be 7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

Margaret Schmitz
Margaret Jane Schmitz, 71, formerly of Topeka, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at her residence in Olathe.
She was born on Jan. 29, 1929, in Cawker City, Kan., the daughter of Charles and Emma Irey Quillen. She was married to John N. Schmitz on Jan. 8, 1949, in Beloit, Kan. He died Sept. 8, 1997. She moved from Topeka to Olathe in 1996.
She was a member of Most Pure Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Topeka, Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Olathe, auxiliary of Post No. 400 of the American Legion in Topeka. She volunteered her time at both churches.
Survivors include two sons, Steven Alan Schmitz, Olathe, and Jeffrey Duane Schmitz of Jackson, Miss.; one daughter, Kelley Ann Carson, Shawnee; three brothers, Frank Quillen and Jim Quillen, both of Salina, and Giles Quillen, Wichita; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, at Mount Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. She will lie in state after 2 p.m. today at the Brennan-Mathena Funeral Home where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:20 p.m.

Ruth Schooner
U. Ruth Schoonover, 80, John Knox Village in Lee's Summit, Mo., died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at the Lee's Summit Hospital.
She was born May 28, 1920, in Mayfield, Ill., the daughter of the Rev. Leon H. and Ula Sweetland. She received a bachelor's degree in teaching from the University of Northern Colorado.
She had moved to Lee's Summit this past year, having come from Rogers, Ark.
She was a member of the Bland Chapel United Methodist Church in Rogers. She also was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth P. Schoonover Sr., of the home; a son, Kenneth P. Schoonover Jr., Springdale, Ark; two daughters, Karen Kelly, Olathe, and Kathleen Oviatt, Northglenn, Colo.; and five grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Friday at John Knox Village, Lee's Summit. Cremation.

John Schrock
John Daniel Schrock, 77, Olathe, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born July 17, 1923, in Protection, Kan. His family moved to Hutchinson in the 1940s. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was stationed at Pearl Harbor when it was attacked by the Japanese and participated in the fighting at Guadalcanal where his ship, the USS Cushing, was sunk. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his injuries as a result of that battle.
He graduated from Emporia State University in 1955 with a degree in business administration. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, he worked as an insurance auditor with Travelers Insurance Company for many years.
After his retirement in 1992, he became active in a tutoring-mentoring program at Olathe schools called Seniors Serving Schools.
Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Schrock, and daughter, Sarah Schrock, both of the home; two sons, Andrew Schrock, Kansas City, and Bradley Schrock, Leawood; a brother, Donald Schrock, Dallas; three sisters, Maebelle Avery, Darlene Newlin and Lucille Holcomb, all of Hutchinson; and two grandsons.
Memorial services will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31, at Mount Moriah Freeman Chapel, Kansas City, Mo.

Ethel Schuetz
Ethel Marie Schuetz, 93, Spring Hill, died Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000, at the Beverly Health Care Center, Spring Hill.
She was born in Clifton, Kan., the daughter of Lewis C. Gepner and Freda M. Schwab Gepner. She moved to Kansas City, Kan., in 1927, when she married Glenn William Schuetz. They moved to Spring Hill in 1953.
She was a homemaker and also worked on the family farm. She was active in the 4-H clubs in Kansas City, Kan., before moving to Spring Hill.
She was a graduate of Clifton High School, Clifton, Kan.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979 and a brother, Carl Gepner.
Survivors include a son, William Schuetz, Spring Hill; a daughter, Dorothy Robertson, Lawrence; three grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. Burial will be at Pleasant View Cemetery, Shawnee. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the funeral home.

Charles Schulz
Charles O. Schulz, 55, Overland Park, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born Oct. 16, 1944, in Milwaukee, and served 27 years in the U.S. Air Force, Colorado Air National Guard and Air Force Reserve, retiring at the rank of colonel. He was a pilot and captain with Braniff International Airlines, and was a military test pilot for LTV Corporation. He most recently was employed at Broadwing Telecommunications and Hy-Vee Corporation. He was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, serving as a Stephen Minister, and was on the board of the Oak Park Homes Association.
Survivors include his wife of 33 years, Nancy; four children, Lisa Palmer and Scott, Jennifer and Chris Schulz; a sister, Margaret Gibson; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 91st and Lamar, Overland Park; the funeral will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Fern Sconce
Fern Sconce, 83, died Thursday May 10, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.
She lived almost all of her life and raised her kids in Dana, Ind.
Survivors include eight children, 22 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Living in Kansas are Sharon Hunt, Gerald Luster and Barbara Sconce.
The funeral will be held in Dana, Ind., and burial will be at Pleasant Ridge, in Newman, Ill.
Barry Scott
Barry T. Scott, 52, Olathe, died Wednesday, June 28, 2000, at his home.
He was born Dec. 26, 1947, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Dan E. and Geraldine Scott. He had lived in Olathe the past four years. Prior, he had lived in Oklahoma City, Okla., seven years, after moving from Minneapolis.
He was a 1966 graduate of De-Lasalle High School, Minneapolis, Minn. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran, stationed in Thailand, during the Vietnam War. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration from a business college in Minneapolis, and received an engineering degree in Oklahoma City. He was an engineer for Sprint PCS.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly Scott, of the home; a son, Eric T. Scott, of the home; a daughter, Katy B. Scott, of the home; his mother and stepfather, Geraldine and LeRoy Link, Minneapolis; and a brother, Bruce Scott, Sheboygan, Wis.

Gary & Betty Scott
Gary Scott, 61, and Betty Scott, 69, of Tonganoxie, Kan., died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at their home.
Betty Scott was born Nov. 1, 1931, in Kansas City, Kan., to Harlow W. and Nellie Wanetta (Winner) Reynolds. She worked for Macy's department store and Nazarene Publishing before devoting her life to being a homemaker.
Gary Scott was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Marshall Junction, Mo., to George L. and Mildred E. (Dollard) Scott. He was farmer and truck driver for Yellow Freight and Wilcox.
Both were members of Metropolitan Church of the Nazarene.
Betty Scott was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.
Survivors include one daughter, Shannon E. Roussy, of France; Gary's brother, David O. Scott; and three grandchildren.
The visitation and memorial services will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Metropolitan Church of the Nazarene, 5301 Metropolitan, Kansas City, Kan. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Sunset Gardens Cemetery, Marshall, Mo.
