Edgar Soule
Edgar John Soule, 90, DeSoto, died Saturday, Jan. 29, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence.
Soule was born to Britton and Hetty Linden Soule Nov. 21, 1909, in DeSoto and lived there his entire life.
He graduated from DeSoto High School in 1927.
He was united in marriage to Ruth Caldwell in 1940.
He was self-employed as a farmer in DeSoto.
He was a member of the Horticulture Society and the Kansas Vegetable Growers Association. He was a charter member of the DeSoto Boy Scouts of America.
He ran a booth at the Kansas City City Market from 1928-1999, selling his own produce.
Preceding him in death are his wife Ruth in 1987; his parents Britton and Hetty Linden Soule; and two brothers Curtis Willard Soule and Owen Soule.
Survivors include one daughter Edith A. Palmberg, Lawrence; and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at DeSoto Baptist Church. Burial will follow at DeSoto Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, at DeSoto Baptist Church, prior to the services.

Vicky Southall
Vicky J. Southall, 48, Olathe, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 at KU Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 21, 1952 in Topeka, Kan., the daughter of Carl Rake and Betty (Cooper) Rake. She lived in Topeka for 19 years before moving to the Kansas City area. She graduated from Highland Park High School and attended Washburn University for two years. She married Mike Southall on Nov. 17, 1973. She worked as a receptionist for Systems Material Handling for 16 years.
She is preceded in death by her father, Carl Rake.
Survivors include her husband, Mike Southall, of the home; two daughters, Lisa Miller and Sarah Southall, both of Olathe; her mother, Betty (Cooper) Rake, Topeka, a sister, Gail Beavers, Topeka; and two grandchildren, Haley Miller and Kalib Miller, both of Olathe.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the W. L. Frye and Son Chapel. A private family graveside service is scheduled at Mount Hope Cemetery in Topeka, Kan.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Kidney Association and the American Lung Association in lieu of flowers.

Sarah Sowers
Sarah Kathleen "Kathie" Sowers, 78, died Tuesday, July 19, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 15, 1922, in Greene County, Mo., and grew up in Bois D'Arc, Mo. She married Bob Sowers in October 1947 and moved to Spring Hill.
She was part of a group that established Spring Hill Baptist Church. She was focused on serving and reaching others. Family, friends and church were most important in her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Helen (Noble) White, and her brother, Mark White.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Robert M. Sowers; a son, Paul Sowers, and his wife, Diana, Spring Hill; a daughter, Nancy Denson, and her husband Craig, Overland Park; a brother, J.B. White, Bois D'Arc; and four grandchildren, Rachel, Amy and Mark Sowers of Spring Hill and Brian Denson of Overland Park.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at Spring Hill Baptist Church. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church. She will be buried at Spring Hill Cemetery.

Valeda Spencer
Valeda Mae Korn Spencer, Gardner, died Friday Dec. 29, 2000, at Center for Long Term Care in Olathe.
She was born in Abilene, Oct. 20, 1908.
She was a graduate of Abilene High School, and has lived in Kansas or Missouri most of her life.
She married Cleo Spencer on Dec. 24, 1933, in Carthage, Mo.
She was a seamstress for Smith Brothers Manufacturing in Carthage, Mo., from 1929-1934 and 1951-1970. She enjoyed traveling.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cleo Spencer; her parents, Eugene Korn and Elizabeth Hittle-Korn; and a brother, Ralph Korn.
Survivors include four daughters, Barbara Moxley, Colonial Beach, Va., Elizabeth Matthews, Raytown, Mo., Mary Fosdick, Seabrook, Texas, Sandra Greenwood, Bartlett; three brothers, Dean Korn, Carthage, Mo., Dale Korn, Jasper, Mo., Bruce Korn, Calif., Pauline Melugin, Joplin, Mo., and Dorothy "Marie" Sewell, Joplin, Mo.; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Martha Spencer
PARSONS - Martha Blanche Spencer, 93, Parsons, formerly of Altamont and Olathe, died Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at the Labette County Medical Center.
She was born March 2, 1907, the daughter of Elmer and Mary (Irwin) Rennie of McCune.
She married Alfred Spencer on May 2, 1925, at Columbus. He preceded her in death on Aug. 9, 1972. When they were first married they lived in the McCune area, later moving to the Altamont area. They moved to Olathe in 1942. While in Olathe, she worked for 15 years for the Kansas School for the Deaf.
She returned to Altamont in 1973, after her husband's death. A year ago, she moved to Parsons to live with her daughter.
She was a member of the First Christian Church of Altamont.
She also was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include two daughters, Colleen Payne, Parsons, and Rowena Arnold, Olathe; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral was Saturday at the First Christian Church of Altamont. Burial followed at the McKee Cemetery in rural Oswego.

Marvin Spencer
Marvin Spencer, 78, Olathe, died Tuesday, Aug. 22, 2000, at Olathe Medical Center.
He was born Aug. 23, 1921, in Tonganoxie, Kan., the son of Joseph and Carrie (Pickens) Spencer. At 14, he joined the Civil Conservation Corps. He was the former owner of Marvin's Garage and Tow, retiring in 1988.
He was a member of the American Legion Post 153 for 55 years; St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe; and the Knights of Columbus, 3rd degree.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Friel Spencer, in 1991; two brothers, Joe C. Spencer and Lloyd Spencer; and a sister, Bonnie Spencer Kamphefner.
Survivors include his wife of eight years, Alberta Lee White Spencer, of the home; two daughters, Nancy J. Spelling, Davis, Okla., and Rebecca J. Spencer, Kansas City, Mo.; two stepdaughters, Dalena White Thomasson, Edgerton, and Joline M. White, Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, James Spencer, Ava, Mo., and George Spencer, Olathe; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the rosary at 7 p.m., at the W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe. Burial will be at the Spring Hill Cemetery, Spring Hill.

Dale Spratt
R. Dale Spratt, 69, Stilwell, died Thursday, Aug. 24, 2000, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.
He was born Oct. 6, 1930, in Blue Rapids, and was a Hallmark employee for 36 years.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Patsy E. Spratt, of the home; three daughters, Janet E. Knoche and Patti J. Klinko, both of Overland Park, and Debra S. Handschin, Oak Grove, Mo.; a twin brother, Philip Clair Spratt, Olsburg; and four grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the D.W. Newcomer's Sons Johnson County Chapel, Overland Park. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Stilwell United Methodist Church, Stilwell. Burial will be at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park.

Leota Marie Springate, 81, Olathe, died Tuesday, July 17, 2001, at Olathe Medical Center.
She was born Oct. 5, 1919, in Monticello, Kan., and lived most of her life in Olathe.
She is preceded in death by a son, Homer A. Springate, and two daughters, Sheryl K. Springate and Janice M. Springate.
Survivors include a daughter, Teresa Reese of Paola, Kan.; five siblings and a grandson, Blayne Green of Overland Park.
A gathering will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 143rd Street and Black Bob Road.
Dorothy Spruytte
Dorothy I. Spruytte, 79, Olathe, died Monday, May 29, 2000, at the Center for Long-Term Care, Olathe.
She was born Nov. 27, 1920, in Princeton, Kan., the daughter of Guy and Bessie (Ledom) Duffield.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Ernest Hawkins; and a brother, John Duffield.
Survivors include her husband, Alphonse Spruytte, of the home; a stepson, Alphonse Spruytte Jr., Olathe; two stepdaughters, Cindy Riepe, Flagstaff, Ariz., and Karen Schmidt, Chandler, Ariz.; four brothers, Clifton Duffield, Olathe, Calvin Duffield, Spring Hill, Arthur Duffield, Hillsdale, and Clarence Duffield, West Fork, Ark.; three sisters, Margaret Surber, Betty Spencer and Alice Hartley, all of Olathe; and many nephews and nieces.
The funeral will be 10 a.m. today at W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Olathe.

Paul Srubas
Paul R. Srubas, 24, Olathe, died Sunday, May 28, 2000, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
He was born Sept. 16, 1975, and was a 1994 graduate of DeSoto High School. He was an independent contractor for The Kansas City Star, and a licensed real estate agent. He was a member of a local import car club and the American Diabetes Association.
Survivors include his parents, Richard and JoAnna Srubas, Olathe; a sister, Rosanna Johnson, Houston, Texas; and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with the rosary at 7 p.m., today at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Olathe. The mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, June 1, at the church. Burial will be at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the American Diabetes Association.
