Jean Caldwell
Jean Baldwin Caldwell, Scotts, Mich., formerly of Olathe, died Sunday, July 2, 2000, after a prolonged battle with cancer.
She was born in 1945 in Dowagiac, Mich. She received both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in English from Western Michigan University. She taught English at Kansas City Kansas, Johnson County and Longview community colleges. She also was a homebound teacher for Olathe public schools.
She had served as president of Friends of the Olathe Public Library and had participated in the Leadership Olathe program.
She and her husband, David, had moved to Scotts in 1998.
Survivors include by her husband, David, of the home; and three sons, Daniel Caldwell, Chicago, Ill., Scott Baldwin, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Vernon Caldwell, Overland Park; four daughters, Amy Monahan and Amanda Hoffmeister, both of St. Louis, Mo., Martha Caldwell, Overland Park, and Elizabeth Caldwell, Lawrence; her grandmother; her mother; two brothers; a sister; and six grandchildren.
The memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Scotts Mill Park, Scotts.

Lorene Call
Lorene Call, 69, Eudora, died Saturday, June 10, 2000, at Eudora Nursing Center.
She was born June 24, 1930, in Arkansas. She married Charles Call on April 28, 1952. She worked for eight years at SOR in Lenexa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles.
Survivors include a son, Dwayne Call, Linwood; three daughters, Carolyn Moore and Doris Moore, both of Eudora, and Patty Frampton, DeSoto; a brother, Oren Conyers, Altus, Ark.; a sister, Irene Stephens, Cave City, Ark.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel, DeSoto. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be at Shawnee Memory Gardens, Shawnee.
Dana Calvert
Dana Louis Calvert, 36, rural Wellsville, died Thursday, April 27, 2000, at her home.
She was born March 31, 1964, in Butler, Mo., the daughter of Johnnie and Beverly (Walters) Mabary. She graduated from Cass-Midway High School in 1964, and attended a year at Longview Community College, Lee's Summit, Mo. She was employed for the past 15 years as a customer-service representative for Graphic Technology Inc., in Gardner. She married Edward William Calvert Oct. 14, 1989, in Freeman, Mo.
Survivors include her husband, Edward Calvert, of the home; two daughters, Sara L. and Jennifer N. Calvert, both of the home; her parents, Johnnie and Beverly Mabary, Freeman, Mo.; a brother, Donald Mabary, Freeman; a sister, Deborah Thompson, Harrisonville, Mo.; and two grandparents, Harold and Anna Walters, Harrisonville.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at the Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Wellsville. The funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Wellsville Cemetery.

Welbert Cantrell
Welbert Lansley Cantrell, 65, Girard, formerly of Olathe, died Friday, Oct. 20, 2000, in a one-vehicle accident in Frontenac.
He was born June 6, 1935, in Marshville, Mo., the son of Eli Lansley and Eva Fern (Fuller) Cantrell. He attended Liberty School, Seymour, Mo., and was a member of the Free Pentecostal Church in Seymour.
While serving in the U.S. Army, he married Helga Agnes Elflein on Oct. 5, 1957, in Rotlendorf, Germany. He then worked in concrete foundations in Maryland for three years before returning briefly to Seymour. He relocated in 1960 to Olathe, where he worked for Clarence VandenBurg Foundations until 1974; he then moved to Pittsburg, where he owned and operated W&W Foundations briefly. He worked for Walters Foundations for 13 years. From 1981 to 1999, he owned and operated the Windjammer Lounge in Pittsburg. In April 2000, he became the owner of Mom's Kitchen in Girard.
Survivors include his wife, Helga A. Cantrell, of the home; two sons, Welbert L. Cantrell Jr., Girard, and Master Sgt. Wendell L. Cantrell, Twentynine Palms, Calif.; four daughters, Delores M. Sharp, Dina M. Lowman, Donna M. Cantrell and Doris M. Brauer, all of Girard; four brothers, Walter Cantrell and Clarence Cantrell, both of Seymour, Mo., Paul Cantrell, Paola, and Lendel Cantrell, Olathe; four sisters, Opal Williams and Hazel Williams, both of Olathe, Thelma Seal, Debury, Texas, and Martha Ince, Fordland, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, Girard. The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Girard Cemetery in Girard.
Ruth Carroll
Ruth W. Grant Carroll, 93, Olathe, died Wednesday, May 17, 2000, at her home.
She was born March 6, 1907, in a sod house in Brewster, Kan., to Samuel Robert Grant and Clara Louise (Wilkin) Grant. She was a 1925 graduate of Coffeyville High School and a 1927 graduate of Coffeyville Junior College. She married Ralph Lealond Carroll April 1, 1927, in Dearing, Kan. She later received a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Missouri at Kansas City, Mo.
She taught 33 years in schools in Missouri, Iowa and Kansas; and was a second-grade elementary teacher in Basehor in the Linwood District, where she taught seven years until her retirement in 1973. She lived in Kansas City, Kan., from 1961 to 1991; moved to Gardner in 1991; then moved to Olathe in 1996.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Gardner, and was a 30-year past member of Trinity United Methodist Church, Kansas City, Kan. She also was a member of KNEA; A.A.U.W.; Land Lords Inc., Kansas City, Kan.; and a lifetime member of Eastern Star, LeRoy Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Carroll, Sept. 22, 1991.
Survivors include a son, Ronald Carroll, Nokesville, Va.; a daughter, Vera Ruth Beach, Gardner; a sister, Grace S. Troutman, Coffeyville; three grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 21, at Bruce Funeral Home, Gardner. The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, May 22, at First Presbyterian Church, Gardner. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.

Coleen Carter
Coleen Sue Carter, 50, of Odessa, Mo., died Wednesday, May 16, 2001, at her home.
She was born Dec. 8, 1950, in Kansas City, Mo. She was a resident of Olathe from 1954 to 1981. She graduated from Olathe High School in 1968 and Central Missouri State University in 1972. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Olathe until 1981. She moved to Odessa, Mo. in 1981 and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa until her death.
She is survived by her husband, Terry Carter and her son, Justin, both of Odessa; her mother, Mildred Bowles, Overland Park; her father, Charles Boyd, Olathe; and three sisters, Cynthia Crumley, Sedalia, Mo., Melody Balentine, Raymore, Mo., and Merrie Rucker, Olathe.
Margaret Cashman
Margaret Catherine Cashman, 83, Olathe, died Monday, Aug. 28, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
She was born March 19, 1917, in Merriam, Kan., to Frank and Fern Martha (Keegan) Bowers.
Survivors include a son, Jesse J. Vaca, Kansas City, Kan.; a daughter, Rosemary Howard, Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park.

Charles Caskey
Charles R. Caskey, 70, Olathe, died Wednesday, March 15, 2000, at the Colmery O'Neil Veterans Administration Medical Center in Topeka.
He was born Nov. 21, 1929, in Muncie, Kan., the son of John Chester and Violet (LaFoon) Caskey. He was a 1947 graduate of Baldwin City High School. After high school, he joined the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Germany, Vietnam, Korea, Formosa and Japan. He was a combat-duty veteran and radar operator in the Korea and Vietnam wars. After his military retirement, he worked as an archaeologist in Choula, Mexico.
He was preceded in death by a nephew.
Survivors include a brother, Richard Caskey, Omaha, Neb.; a sister, Martha Enyart, Olathe; and a niece, Sharon Stead, Topeka.
The graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 20, at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Olathe.

Frances Caskey
Frances McKie Caskey, 94, Pittsburgh, formerly of Olathe, died Tuesday, June 20, 2000.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Cloyd E. Caskey.
Survivors include a daughter, Jean Andrianoff, Penang, Malaysia; three stepsons, Joseph M. Caskey, Beaver Falls, Pa., Kenneth C. Caskey, North Carolina, and Carroll E. Caskey, Virginia; 11 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, at the Reformed Presbyterian Home, Pittsburgh. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at the home. Burial will be July 17 in Blanchard, Iowa.

John Cason
John J. Cason, 53, Olathe, died Thursday, June 21, 2001, at his home.
He was born July 23, 1947, in Boulder, Colo. He had lived in Olathe since 1971. He was well-traveled, attending many grade schools including schools in Honduras, Israel, Cambodia and the United States. He graduated from Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg, W.V. in 1965. He graduated from the Lewis Hotel-Motel School in Washington, D.C. in 1968.
He was the owner-operator of Brass Beds and More, which first was opened in 1986 in Oak Park Mall. He moved the store to Mission Center, then finally to Olathe. He closed the business in 1998 due to his illness.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond G. and Vera F. Cason.
He is survived by his wife, Debra J. Cason of the home; his father and mother-in-law, Raymond L. and Enid L. Boyd, Olathe; and a host of nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 143rd and Black Bob Road, where the family will receive friends following the service. Cremation.

Cecil Caylor
Cecil E. "Red" Caylor, 80, of Olathe, died Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, at Delmar Gardens of Lenexa.
He was born Nov. 21, 1920, in Rantou and had lived in Olathe for the past five years, coming from Carlsbad, Calif. where he lived 17 years.
He was a graduate of Rantoul High School. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1939 where he pursued a career until retiring in 1961 as chief petty officer.
He was a member of the Lane Masonic Lodge in Lane, Kan., Scottish Rite Bodies of Fort Scott, and the Ararat Shire Temple and its Oriental Band in Kansas City, Mo.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Otis Caylor, Francis Caylor and Raymond Caylor.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn C. Caylor, of the home; a son, Charles E. Caylor of Kansas City, Mo.; two daughters, Dorothy L. and husband, Harlow Smith of Huntington Beach, Calif.,and Barbara A. and Roger Jackson of Kansas City, Mo.; two brothers, Marvin Caylor of Osawatomie and Vernon Caylor, Topeka; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 22, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Olathe where the family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Daniel Chaline
Daniel Warren Chaline, 38, died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, in Osawatomie.
He was born May 25, 1962, in Houston, Texas. He served in the U.S. Army for eight years, and graduated from Big Bend Community College in Washington, D.C., in 1979, and the Johnson County Community College nursing program in 1996.
He was a member of the Faith Builders International Church in DeSoto, a member of the Teamsters Local Union No. 838 and a member of the Western Cherokee Nation of Arkansas and Missouri. He was a forklift operator for KC Cold Storage in Bonner Springs.
He is preceded in death by grandparents, Clarence Chaline, Henry Francis McAlpine and Irene Featherstone.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia Ann Ramsey Chaline, of the home; his father, Robert Elton Chaline, Houston; his mother, Billie Pearl McAlpine Chaline, Pasadena, Texas; a grandmother, Naomie Thibbeaux, Houston; five daughters, Julia Ann Rose Chaline, of the home, Ashley Lee Ann Chaline, Overland Park, Skylar Michale Chaline, Gardner, Alicia Chaline, Manhattan, and Katrine Chaline, Tonganoxie; two sons, Thomas Daniel Christian Chaline, Tonganoxie, and Robert Warren Chaline, Manhattan; five brothers, Richard Chaline, Pittsburg, Randall Chaline, Fort Stockton, Texas, Gerald Chaline, Houston, Roger Chaline, Houston, and Brian Chaline, Palm Bay, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia Lois Chaline, Pasadena, Texas, and Lisa Chaline, Anoka, Minn.; and one grandson, Gabriel Allen Baumman, Tonganoxie.

Ray Chamberlain
Raymond "Ray" Wesley Chamberlain, 70, Phoenix, Ariz., died Sunday, July 16, 2000, at the Olathe Medical Center.
He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Madison, Wis., the son of George Wesley Chamberlain and Lucy Jane (Watters) Chamberlain. He married Helen Marie Porter Oct. 5, 1966, in Rock Island, Ill. Before moving to Phoenix 14 years ago, he had lived in Deridder, La.; Texas; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
He was a construction worker and a member of the Laborer's Local 43 in Cedar Rapids. He also was a driver for the Phoenix Auto Auction, retiring in 1990.
He was preceded in death by a son, Raymond Pfantz; a daughter, Charlotte Talley; four brothers, Charles E. Nabb, Altoe Nabb, Bernard L. Nabb and John D. Nabb; a sister, Goldie Campbell; and a granddaughter, Deanna Coleman.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Chamberlain, of the home; three sons, Thomas Chamberlain, Texas, Theron Pfantz, Deridder, La., and Paul Talley, Marion, Iowa; four daughters, Cheryl Pfantz, Austin, Texas, Shirley Anthony, Vinton, Iowa, Debra LaLa, Marion, and Rhonda Vercande, Cedar Rapids, Iowa; a brother, George Chamberlain, Laughlin, Nev.; three sisters, Jean Bothum, Stoughton, Wis., Helen Hickman, Gardner, and Mary K. Goad, Bakersville, Conn.; 30 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Marie Chambers
Marie Clay Chambers, 71, Blue Mound, Kan., died Friday, March 24, 2000, at Crystal Care Nursing Home in Mound City.
She was born Jan. 12, 1929, in Kansas City, Kan. In 1951, she married Russell Clay, who preceded her in death in 1973. She then married Gerald Chambers in 1974; he preceded her in death in 1978. She had worked as a certified nurse's assistant and as a cook at the DeSoto Nursing Home.
She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Hooper; a granddaughter, Crystal Gail Clay; and a great-granddaughter, Brandy Marie Caudle.
Survivors include three sons, David Clay, Olathe, Marvin Clay, Webbersville, Mich., and Russell Clay Jr., Fayetteville, Ark.; two daughters, Kathy Newcome, Blue Mound, and Diana Slaughter, Overland Park; 21 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 3 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 26, at the Coffel-Schneider Chapel, Mound City. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 27, at the chapel. Burial will be at Richland Cemetery, near Mound City.

Dorothy Chapman
Dorothy A. Chapman, 73, Olathe, formerly of Paola, died Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2000, at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home.
She was born March 14, 1927, in Block, Kan., to John and Ella (Minden) Kettler. She married Maurice Chapman April 21, 1946, in Block.
She, her husband and partners owned and operated the Fickel Furniture and Appliance Store for 30 years, before retiring in 1991. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Paola.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Ralph, Dale and Lloyd Kettler.
Survivors include her husband, Maurice, of the home; a son, Steve Chapman, Olathe; a daughter, Nancy Smith, Olathe; a sister, Marlene Troutman, Wellsville; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday at the Wilson and Son Funeral Home, Paola. The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Friday at the First Lutheran Church, Paola. Burial will be at the Paola Cemetery.

Dorothy Chesney
Dorothy Ellen Chesney, 87, Olathe, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2001, at the Center for Long Term Care in Olathe.
She was born Sept. 9, 1913, in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of Marshall F. and Nellie (Lundblade) Lee.
She married David Chesney on Feb. 29, 1929.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, David, on June 16, 1989.
Survivors include one son, Herbert H. Chesney, Parachute, Colo..; one daughter, Mary Ellen Paulson, Eudora; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be 2 p.m., today at W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe. Burial will follow at Grinter Heights Cemetery, Kansas City, Kan.
Jesse Chipman
Jesse Guy Chipman, 88, Olathe, died Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2000, at Overland Park Regional Hospital in Overland Park.
He was born Nov. 8, 1911, in Celina, Texas. His mother died shortly after his birth, and he was adopted by her sister and brother-in-law, Ada C. (Cripps) Chipman and Edward Chipman. He graduated from North Texas State Teachers College and later received a law degree. He married Patricia Hall in 1943.
He was a World War II veteran whose duties included flight training and entertaining troops.
He also pursued industrial engineering, analysis and psychology; he also was a lecturere and columnist, artist, cartoonist and entertainer, whose stage act included horseback riding and rope twirling. Later, his career included small-town business seminars and advertising sales.
He had lived the past 2 1/2 years at Johnson County Nursing Center, Olathe, to be close to his daughter and her family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; four brothers; and three sisters.
Survivors include a daughter, Deanna L. Chipman Dennis; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
The graveside service was Friday at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery in Olathe.
Arrangements were by the W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home, Olathe.
Jewel Chippeaux
Jewel "Frenchy" Chippeaux, 81, Cheney, Kan., died March 31, 2000.
She was a former aircraft tool and die maker.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, 2000, at St. Rose Catholic Church in Mt. Vernon, Kan. Friends may call at 7 p.m. today at St. Rose. The family requests memorials to the church.
Survivors include his wife, Regina, of the home; four sons, Nickolas Chippeaux, Terry Chippeaux and Don Chippeaux, all of Wichita, and Mark Chippeaux, Olathe; three daughters, Sharon Wright and Karen Flanigan, both of Wichita, and Judy Garrison, Augusta, Kan.; two sisters, Edith Smith, Wichita, and Wanda Jane Cox, Spokane, Wash., 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
Elsie Christenson
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Elsie Sharon (Hawkes) Christenson, 59, Fishers, Ind., died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Indianapolis, Ind.
She was born Dec. 9, 1940, in Blackfoot, Idaho, the daughter of Harold B. Hawkes and Ethel Edwinna (McKinley) Hawkes. She married Jerry Wayne Christenson, who survives of the home.
She was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Fishers; and a member of the UCLDA-Utah Children's Learning Disabilities Association.
Other survivors include a son, Christen H. Christenson; two daughters, Elsie Olsen and Caprice Ward, Gardner; five brothers, John Williams, Vernon Williams, Sidney Hawkes, Dick Hawkes and Tom Hawkes; four sisters, Donna Cox, Connie Anderson, Blanche Hawkes and Patricia Hawkes; and 11 grandchildren.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fishers. The graveside service will be 1 p.m. Thursday at the Gardner Cemetery.
