Renee Birzer and Mike Walker were united in marriage on Oct. 21, 2006 at the United Methodist Church in Great Bend with the Rev. John Griffin, uncle of the groom, officiating the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Melvin and Twila Birzer of Great Bend, Dennis and Betty Hagner of Long Beach, Calif., and the late Rick Walker of Delphos. The bride, given in marriage by her father, chose a white one-piece, strapless A-line gown with all over beaded corded lace. It was accented with a 2” satin ribbon around her waistline with an attached rhinestone brooch. She wore an elbow-length white veil with Swarovski crystals and pearls edged in white satin ribbon and tiara of rhinestones. She carried a satin, braided hand-tied bouquet of dark purple and white roses, white stephanotis with center of pearls and light purple baby breath all made of silk flowers, designed by her mother. Matrons of honor were Sarah Clancy of Manhattan and Kristen Walker of Lawrence, sister-in-law of the groom. Bridesmaids were Krista Boltman of Woodland Park, Colo., and Lindsay Berger of Ellinwood. Best men were Rick Walker of Lawrence, brother of the groom, and Chad Jacobs of Greeley, Colo. Groomsmen were Brad Smith of Wichita and Nathan Fiala of St. Francis. Ushers were Jerod Birzer of Great Bend, brother of the bride, Brad Birzer of Ellinwood, cousin of the bride, and Aaron Lindsten and Joe Douglas of Manhattan. Special attendants were Cody Birzer, nephew of the bride, and Kori and Brittney Birzer, nieces of the bride, all of Great Bend. Flower girl was Kaitlyn Birzer of Great Bend, niece of the bride. Honorary ring bearer and flower girl were Kiley and Nick Walker, both boxer pets of the couple. The bride graduated from Great Bend High School in 2000 and Barton County Community College in 2002. She received her bachelor’s degree in business management from Fort Hays State University in 2006. The groom graduated from St. Francis High School. He received his bachelor’s degree in construction science and management from Kansas State University in 2006. He is employed by Performance Contractors Incorporated in Portland, Ore. The couple reside in Beaverton, Ore.
