Hillary Dawn Neeland and Aaron Daniel Emerson were united in marriage on June 23, 2006 at Liberty Hall in Lawrence. Judge Robert Fairchild presided over the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Dennis and Rosalind Neeland of Great Bend, Misty Emerson of Lawrence and Danny Emerson of Chanute. Grandparents of the bride are Marge Harrington of Great Bend, John and Emma Neeland of Colorado Springs, Colo., and the late Elaine Sayler. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore an ivory, matte-satin gown designed by Maggie Sottero in princes s silhouette featuring a strapless neck line with a delicately embroidered and beaded motif diagonally across the bodice and into the skirt. The A-line skirt swept from a wrapped-waist detail into its own chapel train and the back was corseted. She wore a headpiece of a single red-jeweled chopstick and a bridal tulle veil tipped with pearls. She carried a bouquet of white Asiatic lilies wrapped in gold satin ribbons. The maid of honor was Sarah Hill of Hutchinson, cousin of the bride. She wore a Chinese cheongsam short-sleeved blouse with frog buttons and a mandarin collar in red and gold silk with a black knee-length skirt. She carried a smaller version of the bride’s bouquet, wrapped in red satin ribbons. The best man was Waylon Banks of Lawrence. The flower girls were Kelsey Neeland of Shekou, China, and Sarah Smith of Aurora, Colo. They wore long Chinese cheongsam short-sleeve dresses with side slits, mandarin collars and frog buttons, in red and gold silk. They carried inverted hand-painted parasols filled with rose petals. All the attendants’ dresses were handmade in China. Ushers were Graham Neeland of Emporia, brother of the bride, and Chris Swanson of Overland Park. Readers were Mike Neeland of Shekou, China, uncle of the bride and Kenneth Reinhardt of Lenexa, uncle of the groom. The bride graduated from Great Bend High School in 1998 and the University of Kansas in 2002. She is employed by Lawrence Family Vision Clinic as a certified para-optemetric. The groom graduated from Lawrence High School in 2000. He is employed by Nebraska Furniture Mart, serves in the U. S. Army Reserve and is working toward a degree in emergency medical science.
