Garrett 50th
Eugene and Lillian Garrett, Medicine Lodge, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a come-and-go reception from 2 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 27, 2007 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 410 W. Kansas in Medicine Lodge.
Garrett and the former Lillian Wanek were married Jan. 30, 1957, at Ellsworth.
He is retired from Centel.
She previously worked for school district No. 254.
They purchased the VIP Supper Club at Alva, Okla., which they ran 12 years.
They are both retired.
Hosting the reception are their daughters and sons-in-law, Kim and Doug McCormick of Burrton, Valerie and Fred Starnes of Olmitz, Rita Buckaloo and Steve Harper of Hutchinson and Tonia and Roger VanRanken of Hazelton.
Their grandchildren are Ryan McCormick of Hutchinson, Mindy and Ben Schierling of White City, Julie McCormick of Burrton, Sheila VanRanken of Hutchinson and Beau and Samantha VanRanken of Hazelton.

Schmidt 60th
Leo and Dottie Schmidt of Great Bend will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on Jan. 13, 2007.
Their children are: Dianna Koerner of Hays, George and Sallie Schmidt of Fort Smith, Ark., Karen and Steve Harper of Hutchinson, Mike and Debbie Schmidt of Greeley, Colo., Trish and Matt Schartz of Great Bend, and Joan and Jeff Barrett of Wichita.
Their grandchildren are: Paul Koerner; Amy, Dorothy, and Daniel Schmidt; Sean Harper; John and Aaron Schmidt; Ryan, Jordan and Marcie Schartz; and Josh and Jake Barrett.
They have eight great-grandchildren.
Merten 50th
Jack and Wilda Merten of Great Bend will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a come-and-go reception from 1 to 3 p.m. on Feb. 24, 2007 at the First Southern Baptist Church Annex, 19th and Harrison in Great Bend.
Jack Merten and Wilda Whala were married Feb. 23, 1957, in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Mr. Merten retired from Centel on Oct. 1, 1991, after 44 years of service, beginning his service with Western Power & Light in the power plant on south Main Street.
Mrs. Merten retired from the law office of Robert L. Feldt in 1997 after 16 years of service.
She then operated the Cottonwood Yarn & Needlecrafts shop until June 30, 2006.
Hosting the reception are the couple’s daughter and son-in-law, Lahree and Ken Jenkins, and their son and daughter-inlaw, Michael and Pamela Merten.
Their grandchildren are Bradley, Jacci and Ryan Jenkins of Duncan, Okla., and Cordell and Kyler Merten of Great Bend.
