Apel - 25th
Norman and Gladys Apel of Great Bend are celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2-5 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2005, at the Assembly of God Church, 601 Patton Road.
Norman Apel and Gladys Price were married Aug. 9, 1980, in Great Bend.
Hosts for the reception are the couple’s children and their spouses: Gary and Robin Apel of Salina, David Apel of Salina, Briana and Larry Ernst of Henderson, Nev., Gerilyn and Mark Hoard of Salina, Amy and Richard Roe of Derby, Micheal and Loretta Price of Haysville, Eddie and Karen Price of Great Bend, Bob Price and Ina Miles of Cushing, Okla., Terry and Shelli Price of Great Bend and Sherri and Shawn Cox of Derby.
The couple has 28 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Kern - 40th
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Kern are celebrating their 40th wedding anniversary. Jerry Kern and the former Kayleen Hertel were married Aug. 7, 1965, at the St. Patrick Chapel in Great Bend.
Mr. Kern is a retired teacher from Unified School District 428.
Mrs. Kern is a teacher for USD 428 as well.
The couple’s children and spouses are: Kevin and Kim Kern of Overland Park; Loren and Donna Kern of Rogers, Ark.; and Brian Kern of Great Bend.
The couple also has three grandchildren: Chandler and Kylie Kern of Rogers, Ark., and Taylor Kern of Great Bend.
Henning - 50th
Bill and Shirley Henning of Wichita, formerly of Great Bend, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 14, 2005.
The couple celebrated with a two-week-long family trip to Hawaii hosted by their children and grandchildren, Janne and Greg Rowe, Heather and Shannon and Holly and Lawrence Smith, Evan and Tess.
Shirley Koch and Bill Henning were married Aug. 14, 1955, at the First United Methodist Church in Great Bend. They lived in Great Bend until retirement.
Mr. Henning taught school and then worked as a self-employed floor mechanic for 40 years.
Mrs. Henning was a homemaker and part-time bookkeeper while their children were growing up. She then opened “The Kitchen Cupboard” which she owned and operated until 1988.
In 2002, the couple moved to Wichita to be near their children and grandchildren.
