Sloan - 60th
Merle and Betty Sloan of Great Bend will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 26, 2004, at Best Western Angus Inn Courtyard. Sloan and the former Betty Robbins were married June 23, 1944, at Larned. Their children are Loretta and Roger Leith of Rosehill, Larry and Mary Sloan of Albert and Lorena Sloan and Marlin Portenier of Great Bend. They have four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Sloan is retired from Cross Manufacturing in Lewis and she is retired from Lewis Post Office. The couple requests no gifts but would welcome cards which may be sent to Mr. and Mrs. Merle Sloan, 1716 Broadway, Great Bend KS 67530.
Feil - 50th
Ron and Ruby Feil of Great Bend will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary today. Feil and the former Ruby Simpson were married June 20, 1954, and lived in California for 42 years, returning to Great Bend eight years ago. Feil worked in retail management as owner of a Valu-Rite Drug Store and is retired from Riverside Sheriff’s office. She is a cosmetic consultant. The couple has four children, Cheryl Blasque of Riverside, Calif., Christina Davis of Corona, Calif., Cynthia Broyles and Michael Feil, both of Great Bend. They have eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The couple will take a trip in February and their children will host a celebration in California.
Simpson - 70th
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin C. Simpson will celebrate their 70th anniversary with a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 27, 2004, at Best Western Motel. Friends and family are invited and the couple requests no gifts. Hosting the event will be their children, Ruby and Ronnie Feil of Great Bend, Doris and Glen Case of Sacramento, Calif., Barbara and Bob Espinosa of Great Bend, Melvin Wayne Simpson of Great Bend and Kenny Simpson of Fayettellville, Ark. The couple has 20 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren. Simpson and the former Frances Elizabeth Jackson were married March 13, 1934, in Osceola, Mo., and have been residents of Great Bend since 1941.
