Turnbull - 50th
Paul and Miriam Turnbull of Bushton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner with family and friends on Jan. 19, 2003 at Bushton Methodist Church. The celebration included a vow renewal service, during which they gave vows they had written themselves. Turnbull and the former Miriam Moore were married Dec. 26, 1952, at Westminster United Presbyterian Church of Des Moines, Iowa. He retired in 1995, after almost 42 years as Bushton postmaster. She was a teacher for 27 years, and retired in 1995 from the Lorraine School District as a grade school and junior high school librarian in Holyrood. Their family includes Richard Mehringer, son-in-law of Larned, Carol Turnbull of Russell, Keith and Peggy Turnbull of Richfield, Minn., Linda and Joe Becker of Gladstone, Mo., and Cynthia and Terry Craig of Windsor, Mo. All were present for the celebration. They have nine grandchildren. One daughter, Katherine Mehringer, is deceased.
Sloan - 50th
A card shower is requested for Delbert and Betty Sloan of Great Bend, who will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a family dinner. Sloan and Betty Nicolet were married April 4, 1953, at Great Bend. The couple has two children; a daughter, Dell Hayden and her spouse Jim; and a son, Bruce Sloan, all of Great Bend. They have one son-in-law, Arden Mueller of Aurora, Colo. A daughter, Shirley Sloan Mueller died March 9, 1996. The couple has four grandchildren; Randy and Tammy Hayden, Laura and Brad Patzner and Beth Fuel, all of Great Bend; and Justin Sloan of Clearwater, Fla. The couple also has five great-grandchildren, Brett, Sara and Madyson Hayden, Matt Patzner and Katlin Fuel. Sloan is retired from Systems Engineering and Manufacturing Company of Great Bend. Mrs. Sloan is retired from Security State Bank of Great Bend.
Brougher - 50th
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brougher of Garden City, formerly of Great Bend, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 21, 2003 with a dinner at Mom’s of Seward. The event was hosted by their daughters and families. Brougher and the former Viann Pinkston were married on March 21, 1953, at First Christian Church of St. John. They are both employed as realtors with Coldwell Banker The Real Estate Shoppe of Garden City. Their children are Toni and Ben Rice of Great Bend, Sherri and Randy Massey of St. John, Vicki and Bob Brown of Houston, Texas, and Patti and Chris Patzell of Canal Fulton, Ohio.
