Sauber - 50th
James and Marilyn Sauber will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house reception from 2-4 p.m. July 26, 2003 at St. Joseph Parish Center of Ellinwood. Sauber and the former Marilyn Ewy were married July 16, 1953, at St. Joseph Church of Ellinwood. Hosts for the celebration will be their children, Mike and Diane Sauber of Great Bend; Julie and Greg Stephens, Bob and Chris Sauber and Keith and Janet Sauber, all of Salina; Jackie and Bill Klapper of Kansas City; Elaine and Ken Martin of Topeka and Andy and Patty Sauber of Louisburg. The couple has 17 grandchildren, Jessica, Monica, Jayme, Scott, Megan, Melissa, Mat, Meridith, Jena, and Cole Sauber, Austin Stephens, Daniel, Lindsey, Jack and Lauren Klapper and Kristen and Brian Martin. Friends and family are invited to attend. No gifts please.
Lucas - 50th
Gerald and Lucille Lucas will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 1-4 p.m. on July 26, 2003 at the Kansas Room of Perkin’s Family Restaurant of Great Bend. Hosts will be their children: Gary Lucas and wife JoAnne of Hillsdale. Lucas and the former Lucille Meaders were married on July 26, 1953, at Frederick, Okla. The couple met while attending Cameron College of Lawton, Okla., where he played basketball for the Cameron Aggies. They are residents of Great Bend for 36 years, coming from Enid, Okla. Lucas served in the U.S. Army for two years. After discharge, he graduated from the University of Oklahoma. He joined NC Industries, Baroid Division, and served for 26 years, retiring in 1985. He organized a consultant firm, Gerald Lucas Drilling Mud Engineering, retiring in 1995. Mrs. Lucas was a graduate of Phillips University of Enid. She was employed as an English teacher at Harrison Junior High and Great Bend Middle School for 28 years, until her retirement in 1995. The couple have three grandchildren, Ben Lucas, Alex Lucas and Rosalyn Lucas. A family vacation is planned for Pagosa Springs, Colo., to celebrate the occasion. The couple request no gifts. Michaelis - 70th
Leo and Alma Michaelis of rural Russell will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary with an open house beginning at 4 p.m. and a dance starting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 2, 2003 at Russell Veterans of Foreign Wars. They were married July 30, 1933. Hosts for the occasion will be their children and spouses, Bill and Shirley Brown, Gerald and Betty Michaelis, Roger Michaelis and companion Reatha Bates, Larry and Joyce Michaelis, Gene and Beannie Michaelis and Alma’s brother, Fritz Waymaster and his spouse, Joan, as well as the couple’s grandchildren and great grandchildren.
