Jonas - 50th
Alfred and Helen Jonas celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner for family and friends Nov. 30, 2003. The dinner was prepared by their children and grandchildren at their home in rural Hoisington. Jonas and the former Helen Richmond were married Dec. 1, 1953, in Santa Fe, N.M. They have lived their married life in Hoisington. Jonas worked at Manweiler Chevrolet and the Barton County Highway Department. She was a school bus driver for USD 431 and is currently a dispatcher for the Great Bend Senior Center. Their children are Shawn and Janet Jonas, Steven and Kathy Jonas and Kevin and Kathryn Jonas, all of Hoisington, Sharon Jenkins of Great Bend and Kathy and Merle Reynolds of Dexter, N.M., and the late Kirk Jonas. The couple have 14 grandchildren.
Watkins - 60th
A card shower is requested for Chester and Viola Watkins who celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Nov. 27, 2003. Watkins and the former Viola Suchy were married Nov. 27, 1943, in La Crosse. Their children are RuthAnn and George Weber of Great Bend, Charlotte and Bill Lackey of Blue Springs, Mo., Sandy Byers of Hutchinson and Pam Davidson of Rogers, Ark. The couple has 19 grandchildren. Penka - 40th
Don and Lil Penka of Great Bend celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary Nov. 23, 2003 with an early Thanksgiving meal with family and friends. Penka and the former Lil Dreiling were married Nov. 25, 1963, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Garden City. Penka is retired from USD 428 and Lil is a home day-care provider. Their children are Michelle and Delbert Smith of Topeka, Matt and Christi Penka of Great Bend and Melissa Sides of Hutchinson, and the late Marcene Penka. Their grandchildren are Sarah Smith, Samantha Smith, Lauren Penka, Blake Penka, Ashley Sides and Braden Sides.
