Amanda Alyse Merrill and David D. Powell were united in marriage Oct. 21, 2000, at First Baptist Church in Topeka with Chaplain Jerry D. Powell, father of the bridegroom, officiating.
The bride is the daughter of Tom and Deborah Merrill of Topeka.
She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. D.W. Peters and Bob Merrill, all of Crane, Mo.
The bridegroom is the son of Jerry and Janet Powell of Fayetteville, N.C.
He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Powell of St. Louis and Mr. and Mrs. William Smarr of Sun City Center, Fla.
Beth Powell, Fayetteville, was maid of honor, and the bridesmaids were Christy Osier, Topeka, and Jessica Perkins, Lawrence.
Mark Powell, Lawrence, was best man.
Paul McGuire, Columbus, Ga., was the groomsman.
Lauren Peterson, Topeka, was the flower girl and Alexis Peterson, Topeka, was the ring attendant.
Candles were lighted by Kyle Reinert, Billings, Mo., cousin of the bride.
Music was provided by vocalists Denise and John Reinert, Billings, aunt and uncle of the bride.
A reception followed in the Garden House at Lake Shawnee.
The bride is a graduate of Shawnee Heights High School and Kansas State University with a bachelor's degree in biology.
The groom is a graduate of Junction City High School and Kansas State University with a bachelor of engineering degree in construction science and management.
He is a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army.
After a honeymoon trip to Las Vegas, the newlyweds reside in Fayetteville, N.C.
