Lisa Marie Garcia and Mackael "Mike" Wayne Hubbard were united in marriage Jan. 19, 2002, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Topeka.
The 2 p.m. nuptial Mass was celebrated by the Rev. John Torrez, cousin of the bride.
The bride is the daughter of George Garcia of Topeka and the late Rosallie Garcia. She is the granddaughter of the late Perfecto and Loretta Torrez, and Michaela Garcia, Topeka, and the late Henry Garcia.
The bridegroom's parents are Mack and Wilma Hubbard of Topeka. He is the grandson of Lottie Davis, Topeka, and the late Joseph Whetstone, and the late Marquez and Bessie Hubbard.
The bride's honorary escort was her grandfather, Perfecto Torrez.
Linda Pelc was maid of honor. The bridesmaids were Joyce Banks, Ronda Green and Tracy Hubbard.
Joe Hubbard was best man. The groomsmen were Gabriel Garcia, Gary Green and Don Pelc.
The wedding sponsors were Joe and Liz Garcia.
The flower girl and ring bearer were Gabrielle Hubbard and Michelle Hubbard, daughters of the bride and groom. Candles were lighted by Scott and Bessie Winn.
LaCreisha Banks was at the guest book. Printed programs were distributed by Davin Banks. Marquez Green gave wedding favors to the guests. Joann Brees was the wedding coordinator.
The lector was Gina Gutierrez. Gloria Torrez was the Eucharistic minister. Lance Torrez and Adam Cooper were the altar boys. Offertory gifts were presented by Gabrielle Hubbard and Michelle Hubbard, daughters of the couple.
Music was provided by organist Rita Bennett and vocalists Celia Cortez and Jim and Jenny Heim.
Julia Garcia presented the mancuerna, a long rosary used in traditional Mexican wedding ceremonies to encircle the bride and groom as a symbol signifying their uniting as one.
Brice Pelc presented the arras (coins), which are given by the bridegroom to his bride to signify that he will provide for her throughout their marriage.
Michael Hubbard presented the wedding broom for the couple to jump, signifying the couple's entry into marriage and home in old-time African-American weddings.
A reception followed in the church parish hall.
The bride is a graduate of Highland Park High School and Highland Community College with an associate's degree. She is a student at Washburn University pursuing a bachelor's degree in human services and is a customer service representative at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
The groom is a graduate of Highland Park High School and Kaw Area Technical School with a certificate in home and building maintenance. He is employed at Kansas Neurological Institute.
After a family honeymoon trip to Orlando, Fla., the newlyweds are at home in Topeka.
