Erin Wells McDonald, the daughter of William and Beverly McDonald of Lenexa, and Jonathan Kent Whitmer, the son of Eldon and Alice Whitmer of Wilson, were united in marriage on June 12, 2004 in a candlelight ceremony at the Lenexa United Methodist Church. The Rev. Kay Scarbrough officiated at the double ring ceremony. Grandparents of the bride are Mr. and Mrs. Donald McDonald of Hardyville, Ky., and the late Haskell and Tillie Wells. Grandparents of the groom are Robert Whitmer of Wilson and the late Cora Whitmer and Kenneth Fischer and the late Virginia Fischer. The bride, escorted by her father, wore a white satin Oleg Cassini strapless A-line gown with an apron back and organza inset embellished with beaded metallic embroidery. The vintage white lace veil with pearl accents was also worn by the bride's mother at her own wedding. The bridal bouquet was white daisies, pink sweetheart roses and blue hydrangeas. Maid of honor was Diane Schrempp of Lenexa. Bridal attendants were Brooklyn Lippelmann of Lyons and Todd McDonald of Lenexa, brother of the bride. Female attendants wore periwinkle blue satin, strapless dresses with contrasting white bands on the bodice and floor length petal backs with contrasting white inserts. They carried smaller bouquets identical to that of the bride. Best man was Kenny Everett of Wichita. Groomsmen were Christopher Whitmer, of Ames, Iowa, brother of the groom, and Cody Schickedanz of Council Grove. Ushers were David Olds of Salina, and Mark Schrempp of Lenexa. The groom wore a black cutaway tuxedo with a white vest and eurotie. Male attendants wore black cutaway tuxedos with black vests and euroties. MaKenna DeHart and Jacob DeHart of Olsburg, cousins of the groom, lighted the tapers. Organist was Nan Hulett of Lenexa. The wedding coordinator was Loma Parsons of Lenexa. Instrumental music was provided by a Jazz Ensemble led by the bride’s brother. The bride is a graduate of Shawnee Mission West High School in Lenexa and a 2004 graduate of Baker University. She is currently teaching sixth grade at Woodrow Wilson Elementary School in Manhattan. The groom is a Wilson High School graduate. He is a degree candidate in physics and math for May of 2005 from Kansas State University in Manhattan. He does liquid surface physics research for the university and is a tutor/grader for the math department. The couple resides in Manhattan.
