Shirk - Becker
Holy Name Catholic Church in Topeka was the setting for the wedding of Amy Jolene Shirk and Robert Lawrence Becker on Oct. 25, 2003.
The Rev. Meinrad Miller officiated at the 1 p.m. service.
The bride is the daughter of Mary Shirk, Topeka, and the late Roger Shirk. She is the granddaughter of the late Herald and Amy Shirk, who lived in Ruthven, Iowa, and the late Gordon and Grace Wiegand, who lived in Topeka.
The bridegroom is the son of William and Grace Becker, Kansas City, Mo. He is the grandson of Eleanor Becker, Kansas City, Mo., and the late Lawrence Becker, and Marcella Kempken, Twin Lakes, Wis., and the late Al Kempken.
Julie Johnson was her sister's matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Beth Becker, Ann Becker-Schutte and Katie Becker, sisters of the groom; Ashley Perkins and Catie Biggs. Andrea Marshbank was the junior bridesmaid. The bride's personal attendant was Megan Cassidy.
Drew Kupsky was best man. Groomsmen were Jim Becker, brother of the groom; Brenton Bain, Corey McClain, Nick Welliver, Brent Wiley and Chris Bauer.
Molly Becker and Daniel Becker, sister and brother of the groom, were the flower girl and ring bearer. The ushers were Ben Becker and Nick Becker, brothers of the groom. Tyann Madden was the greeter.
The readers were J. Schutte, brother-in-law of the groom, and Scott Johnson, brother-in-law of the bride. The servers were Matt Becker, Brent Becker and Luke Becker, brothers of the groom. Eucharistic ministers were Judy Hafner and Michelle Ireland.
Music was provided by guitarists and cantors Matt Ku and Joe Peterson; cantor Ed Lane; and pianist Laurie Parker.
A reception followed at the Sunrise Optimist Club.
The bride is a graduate of Hayden High School and Benedictine College at Atchison with a bachelor's degree in mass communications and religious studies. She is employed by Johnson County Community College in Overland Park as a desktop publishing technician.
The groom is a graduate of Bishop Hogan High School in Kansas City, Mo., and Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo., with a bachelor's degree in marketing and a minor in computer science. He is a systems consultant for Celaritis Technologies in Overland Park.
After a wedding trip to Eureka Springs, Ark., the newlyweds are at home in Shawnee.
