Karen Kuhn of Great Bend and Gene Rugan of Ellinwood were married on Aug. 28, 2004 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Great Bend. Rev. Ted Stoecklein officiated the Mass and double ring ceremony of holy matrimony. Parents of the couple are Bill and Norma Kuhn of Great Bend and Ron and Sharon Rugan of Ellinwood. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white matte gown designed in a traditional Basque waist design, featuring a scooped neckline and short cap sleeves atop a bodice fully embellished in reembroidered beaded lace and delicate beaded detailing. The full ballroom skirt swept into its own extended chapel train, featuring a raised border of matching beaded lace and beaded detailing near the hem. Her fingertip illusion veil was held in place by a comb of crystal beads and pearls. She carried a bouquet of ivory and mauve roses and pink lilies. The bride’s sister, Kathey Mitchell, of Great Bend, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Wapelhorst of Wichita; Alison Brack, cousin of the bride, of Hays; and Jeanene Ehrlich, sister of the groom, of Salina. The attendants wore cranberry matte satin gowns with a shaped neckline and carried bouquets similar to the bride’s bouquet. Mark Pohlman of Great Bend served as the best man. The groomsmen were Curtis Kuhn, brother of the bride, of Great Bend; Walt Rugan, cousin of the groom, of Ellinwood; and Ben Brassfield, cousin of the groom, of Basehor. Trinity Mitchell, niece of the bride, of Great Bend, and Rachel Walters, cousin of the bride, of Kansas City, were the flower girls. Wyatt Rugan, cousin of the groom, of Great Bend, was the ring bearer. Taperlighters were Rachel Wannamaker of Hutchinson and Jo Brassfield, cousin of the groom, of Tonganoxie. Music was provided by Ron Rugan and Chris Haselhorst, vocalists, and Connie Schneweis, organist. Ushers were Richard Rugan, cousin of the groom, of Claflin, and Keith Kuhn, brother of the bride, of Great Bend. The bride is a graduate of Great Bend High School and Fort Hays State University with a Bachelor of Science in elementary education. She is a substitute teacher for the Ellinwood and Great Bend area. The groom is a graduate of Ellinwood High School and Fort Hays State University with a Bacholer of Science in agriculture. He is self-employed as a farmer. The couple makes their home in Ellinwood.
