Stacy Ann Komarek and Derek Duane Bownes were married on May 8, 2004 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ellinwood. Rev. Jack Maes officiated the double ring ceremony. Parents of the bride are Steve Komarek of Bucklin and Adele Komarek of Ellinwood and parents of the groom are Lynn and Rita Bownes of Great Bend. Grandparents of the couple are the late George and Marcella Armstrong, the late Gerald “Shorty” and Marie Komarek, Kenneth and Shirley Link of Great Bend, Ronald “Rocky” and Beverly Bownes of Ellinwood. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an elegant white strapless gown with a fitted bodice that gradually flared from the waist into the chapel-length train. The gown was accented with beaded, corded lace throughout. She also had a two-tier scalloped edge veil topped with a tiara. She carried a high style silk cascade with spring flowers in pink and burgundy colors of calla lilies, tulips, lilies, snowball, gypsophila, and mini-star flowers. AnneBelle Komarek of Kearney, Mo., bride's sister-in-law, served as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Angela Waite of Lawrence, Kyle Mitchum of Great Bend, Ashley Razak of Edwardsville, Kalesha Bownes of Hutchinson, groom's sister. Bridesmaids wore two-piece strapless platinum colored satin gowns with a V-notched bodice enhanced with a band of beading at the empire. They carried long stem bouquets of pink and burgundy tulips and calla lilies accented with platinum colored ribbon. Jim Meyeres of Chase, groom's uncle, served as the best man. The groomsmen were Ryan Bownes of Great Bend, groom's brother, Travis Watts of Ellinwood, groom's uncle, Jason Meyeres of Chase, groom's cousin, Jeremy Gwin of Great Bend. Taperlighters were Jessica Eggers of Manhattan and Megan Panning of Great Bend. Mikayla Bownes of Great Bend, groom’s niece, and Allison Link of Newton, groom’s cousin, were the flower girls. Alexander Komarek of Kearney, Mo., bride’s nephew, was the ring bearer. Instrumental music was provided by Bonnie Tyson of Ellinwood, pianist. Ushers were Jason Komarek of Kearney, Mo., bride’s brother, and Travis Rapp of Manhattan. The bride is a graduate of Ellinwood High School and Kansas State University with a bachelor of science in business administration with an emphasis in marketing and international business. She is employed by Lewis, Hooper & Dick, LLC, Certified Public Accountants in Garden City as the marketing coordinator. The groom is a graduate of Great Bend High School and attended Barton County Community College. He is employed by Cargill Animal Nutrition in Garden City as a process technician. The couple makes their home in Garden City.
