Stephanie Denise Call and Maj. John David Hixson were married on Sept. 18, 2004 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Lawrence. The Rev. John Schmeidler officiated the double-ring ceremony. Parents of the couple are Dennis and Dianne Call of Great Bend and Jack and LuAnn Hixson of Leavenworth. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore an Alfred Sung strapless gown with a fully embroidered and beaded drop waist bodice. The A-line skirt had an organza overlay setting off the embroidered, crystal train. She carried a round, hand-tied bouquet of white hydrangeas, gardenias, roses, mini callas, stock, lisyanthus and stephanotis with blue pearl centers, tied with white and blue ribbons. Sarah Call of Mission served as maid of honor and Shannon Somers of Great Bend served as matron of honor, both sisters of the bride. Bridesmaids were Crystal Delp of Overland Park and Megan Livingston of Omaha, Neb., cousin of the bride. The bridesmaids wore Dessy satin, A-line dresses in Windsor blue. The tea-length dresses had spaghetti straps and black ribbons around the empire waist. They carried a smaller version of the bride’s bouquet. They also wore stephanotis with blue pearl centers in their hair. Capt. Lee Magee of Federal Way, Wash., served as the best man. The groomsmen were Maj. Sean Jones of League City, Texas, and Maj. Brandon Newton and Maj. Jose Aymat, both of Leavenworth. Phylicia Call of Blue Springs, Mo., and Brenna Baxter of Eureka, Ill., both cousins of the bride, were the flower girls. Special music was provided by Carol Mueller of Overland Park, organist and pianist; Shannon Somers of Great Bend, vocalist; and Holly Fagan of Kansas City, violinist. Candlelighters were Kristina Helmer of Wichita and Mollie Mueller of Washington, D.C. Ushers were Jay Strand of Lawrence and Chad Somers of Great Bend, brother-in-law of the couple. The bride is a 1998 graduate of Great Bend High School and 2002 graduate of the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts in human development and family life. She is employed by The Guidance Center in Leavenworth as a case manager. The groom is a 1990 graduate of Leavenworth High School and 1994 graduate of the United States Military Academy in West Point, N.Y. He is currently attending the United States Army’s Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth. The couple makes their home in Leavenworth.
