Sarah Elizabeth Smith and William Lee Myers of Lawrence were united in marriage Nov. 27 at the First Presbyterian Church of Larned. The Rev. Jim Hawthorne officiated the double-ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Vance and Susan Smith of Larned. The groom is the son of Verlon and Marilyn Myers of Lawrence. Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a onepiece, mocha Italian satin gown that featured an A-line skirt, corset back, asymmetrical drape and chapel-length train. The strapless gown was embellished with Swarovski crystals, sequins, seed beads and pearls. She also wore a strand of pearls given to her grandmother, Mary Lou Smith, by the late Virgil Smith on his return home from World War II. The bride carried a hand-tied nosegay of black magic, Madame Delbar and classy red roses, accented with pink pepper berries and an antique handkerchief of her great-grandmother’s, Maud Carpenter. The maid of honor was Brooke Seba of Austin, Texas. The bridesmaids were Carrie Ippensen of Lonetree, Colo. and Bridget Burke of Dallas, Texas. They wore strapless ruby-red satin gowns and carried handclutch bouquets of vandella ivory roses and pink pepper berries. The best man was James Myers of Lawrence, brother of the groom. The groomsmen were Brett Romme of Lawrence and Mark Howe of Dallas, Texas. The flower girl was Cali Byrn, niece of the groom. The ring bearer was Brayden Smith, nephew of the bride. The candle lighters were Ashlie and Emilie Thill, cousins of the bride. The ushers were Jerrod and Brad Smith, brothers of the bride, and Bill Byrn, brother-in-law of the groom. The bride is a 1999 graduate of Larned High School, a 2001 graduate of Hutchinson Community College, and a 2004 graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in sports management. She is employed by the University of Kansas Athletic Corporation as an assistant rowing coach. The groom is a 1996 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 2000 graduate of Pittsburg State University where he received his degree in physics education. After graduation, he spent two years in the Peace Corps in Africa, serving as a teacher and school administrator in rural Namibia. Currently he is teaching chemistry and physics at Olathe Northwest High School. The couple resides in Lawrence.
