Tamara Lynn Cates of Claflin and Jason Grant Dody of Cottonwood Falls were united in marriage on Jan. 8, 2005 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Claflin. Parents of the bride are Bob and Alvita Cates of Claflin. Grandparents of the bride are Albert and Laura Tinkel and Thelma Cates, all of Claflin, and the late V.E. Cates. Parents of the groom are Ginger Dody of Emporia and Terry Dody and Deb Scott of Branson, Mo. Grandparents of the groom are Elaine Fulton of Strong City, Robert Fulton of Sterling and Don and Betty Dody of Newton. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a white satin gown by Alfred Angelo. The strapless bodice had a delicate row of beading across the neckline; embroidery with beading cascaded down the front and back of the bodice. The embroidery continued down the bodice and onto the split-carriage back and around the chapel length train. Her bouquet was a cascade of red roses with a red rosary intertwined in the cascade. Dawn Pretz, cousin of the bride, of DeSoto, served as the matron of honor. Bridesmaids included Angie Powers of Claflin, Blythe Dody, sister-in-law of the groom, of Emporia, Deb Cates, cousin of the bride, of Goddard, and Deb Meyer of Marysville. The bridesmaids all wore floorlength, apple-color, chiffon dresses with a drape neck and extension of the sash that flows down the back of the dress. The matron of honor carried a bouquet of red and white roses, while the bridesmaids carried bouquets of white roses. Aron Dody, brother of the groom, served as the best man. The groomsmen were Matt Drake of Emporia, Trevor Cates, brother of the bride, of Claflin, Lon Hosey of Goddard, and Jim Roach of Emporia. The men in the wedding party wore black tuxedos with the groom and ring bearer wearing black vests and neckties, while the rest of the men wore burgundy and black vests with black neckties. Their boutonnieres were a single rose accented with gold and white ribbon. McKayla Maples, cousin of the bride, of Eudora, was the flower girl. She wore a tailor-made white satin dress, resembling the bride’s dress. She carried a basket of red rose petals. The ring bearer was James Smith, nephew of the bride, of Claflin. The candle lighters were Alex and Madelyn Carnes, cousins of the groom, of Olathe. Ushers were Justin Griffin and Trey Hinkson, both of Cottonwood Falls, Thad Robert of Emporia, and Mark Danford of Strong City. The bride is a graduate of Claflin High School and Kansas State University where she received her bachelor of science degree in kinesiology. She is currently pursuing a doctorate of physical therapy degree at Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Mo. The groom is a graduate of Chase County High School and Southwestern University in Wichita where he graduated with a material control management degree and APICS certification. He is currently working in quality assurance at the Wal-Mart distribution center in Harrisonville, Mo. The couple currently makes their home in Kansas City, Kan.
