Richard Alvin Groves, Jr., 49, Basehor, died Thursday, June 21, 2007 at University of Kansas Medical Center, Kansas City, Kan. Funeral services were Monday, June 25, at Holy Angels Catholic Church, Basehor, burial in Holy Angels Cemetery. The family received friends one hour before service time at the Church. Memorials are suggested to American Heart Association, in care of Quisenberry Funeral Home, P.O. Box 993, Tonganoxie, KS 66086.
Mr. Groves was born Oct. 21, 1957 in Lincoln, Neb., the son of Richard and Marcia (Fletcher) Groves, Sr. He was an equipment operator for J.C. Penny, Lenexa. He was united in marriage March 17, 2001 to Christina (Wilson) Ogden-Groves in Tonganoxie.
He is survived by his wife, Christina, of the home; two sons, Steven Groves, Austin, Tex. and Brandon Ogden, of the home; three daughters, Lisa Ballard, Austin, Tex., Leslie Groves, Austin, Tex., and Chelsea Ogden, of the home; a brother, Christopher Groves, Rapid City, S.D.; a sister, Missy Lockhart, Chattanooga, Tenn. and two grandsons.

Richard Becker

LENEXA
Richard Becker, 76, former mayor of Lenexa, died Sunday, June 24, 2007, at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Memorial Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Lenexa Community Center, Santa Fe and Pflumm. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa, 10113 Lenexa Dr.
The family suggests memorial contributions in his name to the National Kidney Foundation, 6405 Metcalf, Suite 204, Overland Park KS 66202 or Johnson County Community College Foundation.
A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in St. Louis, MO.
Mr. Becker was born April 16, 1931, in St. Louis, Mo. He served in the U.S. Navy and was an account executive for Channel 41 for 22 years. Mr. Becker served as mayor of Lenexa from 1983 to 1995, and as a member of the Kansas Legislature from 1995 to 2000. He attended the University of Missouri and graduated from Ottawa University.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Clarence Becker. Survivors include his wife, Nancy, of the home; a daughter, Andrea Gentry of Lenexa; a son, Brian S. Becker of Leakesville, Miss; a sister, Sister George of the Little Sisters of the Poor, Oregon, Ohio; three brothers, Ray Becker of House Springs, Mo.; Al Becker of Glen Carbon, Ill.; and Lou Becker of Florissant, Mo. There are four grandchildren.

Shirley Sween, 85, Bonner Springs, died Wednesday, June 13, 2007 at Kansas City Hospice, Kansas City, Mo. She was cremated. No services are planned.
Mrs. Sween was born Jan. 20, 1922 in Garretson, S.D., the daughter of Lawrence and Mable (Williamson) Shafer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Goodwin "Duke" Sween. Survivors include her daughter, Jann Merando, Valley Falls, Kan.; two sons, Richard Sween, Huson, Mont. and Donald Sween, Overland Park; a sister, June Geiver, Sioux Falls, S.D.; and nine grandchildren.

Jewell K. Roark, 78, a 15-year resident of Bonner Springs, died June 19, 2007, at her home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Charter Funerals, 10250 Shawnee Mission Pkwy., Merriam; visitation was Wednesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Leavenworth National Cemetery. The family suggests memorial contributions to the family in care of the funeral home.
Mrs. Roark was born Jan. 8, 1929, in Reno, Ark., to James Franklin Ford Sr. and Elizabeth (Ingram) Ford. She was an Avon representative for 40 years and a member of the President's Club. She was a member of Morris Independent Baptist Chapel.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, J.D. Roark. She is survived by two sons, Duane Roark of Louisburg, and Byron Roark of Bonner Springs; two brothers, J.F. Ford Jr. of Corning, Ark., and Burley Ford of Pleasanton, Kan.; a sister, Sharon Kay Ford of Iowa; 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
