John R. "Jack" Ralph Malone, 77, Merriam, died Saturday, March 20, 2004, at Trinity Lutheran Manor, Merriam. Funeral mass was Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with burial in Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation and Rosary were Tuesday at the Amos Family Chapel.
Mr. Malone was born Aug. 28, 1926, in Altoona, Pa. He was an Army officer during World War II and Korea. He attended Rockhurst College in Kansas City, Mo. He was retired from the Federal Aviation Administration, and was a member of Electricians Union Local #124 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Norbert and Marguerite (Shoemaker) Malone and a brother, Michael Malone. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Mary V. (Currigan) Malone; a daughter, Suzanne M. Grys, Lenexa; four sons, Robert J. Malone, Edmonds, Wash.: William J. Malone, Holt, Mo.; Thomas M. Malone, Prairie Village; and Gregory J. Malone, Plano, Texas; a brother, Stephen P. Malone, North Carolina; a sister, Ann Hess, Auburn, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

Marvin E. Harris

Marvin E. Harris, 82, Kansas City, Kan., died Thursday, March 18, 2004, at the Dwight Eisenhower VA Medical Center, Leavenworth, Kan. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Amos Family Chapel in Shawnee; burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery. Visitation was Friday evening at the Chapel.
Mr. Harris was born May 14, 1921 in Murray, Ark. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Harris retired from the Perk Foods Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada Harris, on Oct. 8, 2002; a granddaughter, Rachel Harris; and a sister, Ilene Manning.
Survivors include a daughter, Burma C. Mealor, Kansas City, Kan.; two sons, E. Stan Harris, Dewey, Okla., and Ronnie Harris, Laurie, Mo.; three sisters, Susie Chaplain, Dorothy Vanderpool and Elvie Cain; seven brothers, Robert Harris, Jesse Harris, Earl Harris, James Harris, Riley Harris, Ed Harris and Gene Harris; three grandchildren, Dusty Mealor, Jenna Howard, Edwin and Jason Harris; and seven great grandchildren.

Eudora
Beverly Jo "Chance" Bryant, 62, of Eudora, died Saturday March 20, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 25, at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Bonner Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bryant was born July 8, 1941, in Kansas City, Kan. She was a medication aide at the Eudora Nursing Center for 29 years and had recently celebrated her retirement in September of 2003. She also had worked for the De Soto Nursing home for 11years and had recently worked for Mr. Goodcents in DeSoto.
She was preceded in death by her father, Glenn R. Chance, in August of 2003. Survivors include four sons, Glenn R. Chance of Edwardsville, Dewayne L. Bryant, Dewight D. Bryant and David L. Bryant, all of Eudora; a daughter, Karla K. Nuckolls of Eudora; and three sisters, Glenna L. Florence of Basehor, Geraldine M. Thompson of Bonner Springs and Diane M. Mathia of Paola; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
George R. Brown
1928-2004
Shawnee
George Robert Brown, 76, of Shawnee, died on Wednesday, March 17, 2004, after a battle with cancer. Funeral services were held at Amos Family Funeral Home of Shawnee at on Tuesday. Visitation and Masonic Services were Monday evening. Burial followed in Resurrection Cemetery, Lenexa.
Mr. Brown was born on March 6, 1928, at Waterville, Kan., to Alma Shultz Brown and Floyd George Brown. He moved to Kansas City and lived with his sister as a young man.
He worked for Acme Ambulance Co., Pittman Manufacturing and the Board of Public Utilities and retired as the director of public works of the city of Westwood in 1992 after 20 years. In order to stay busy after retirement, he went to work for McAnany Construction Company until 2000 when he was diagnosed with cancer.
He was a member of Shawnee Masonic Lodge #54 of Shawnee and the Rosedale Optimist Club of Kansas City, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Betty Hunt; and his first wife, Jo Anna Brown.
Survivors include the wife, Pat Stripling Brown, of the home; two daughters, Carol Peters (Gary) and Linda Tabberer (Don); a son, Rob Brown (Mary Beth); two step-sons, Rick Stripling (Beth) and Don Stripling (Sisteen); 12 grandchildren, Lynne Peters, Cheryl Peters, Christopher Tabberer (Jana), Brian Tabberer, Lauren Brown, Andrew Brown, Matthew Brown, Eric Stripling, Tiffany Stripling, Bobbi Stripling, Donald Stripling and Ashyln Stripling; two great-granddaughters, Erin and Jordan Tabberer; four sisters-in-law, Kathryn True, Barbara Masson, Neta Black and Judy Johnson; mother-in-law, Annabella Johnston and many nieces and nephews.
