Cecile May Culp

Services for Cecile M. Culp, 89, De Soto, were May 7 at Cedar Crest Memorial Chapel. Burial was in De Soto Cemetery, De Soto.
Mrs. Culp died May 4.
She was born June 3, 1911. She was a lifelong resident of De Soto. She was a graduate of Dickenson Business College, and Sherwood Conservatory of Music, where she earned her teacher's degree in organ and piano. She was an organist and pianist in churches and was the author of several books.
Survivors include one daughter, Joann Mizell, Shawnee; two sons, Jim Alexander, Sun City, Ariz., and Jack Alexander, Fulton, Mo.; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Orville C. Williams
1924 - 2001
Orville Williams, 77, Huntington Beach, Cal., died at his home. Cremation and private memorial services were held.
Mr. Williams was born Jan. 11, 1924, in Bonner Springs, the son of Bert T. and Elsie Williams. He graduated from Bonner Springs High School in 1942, and served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. After service, he settled in California, where he worked for Freestone until he retired. Then he taught at Vo-Tech in Huntington Beach for several years.
His wife, his parents, three brothers, and one sister precede him in death.
Survivors include his sons, Craig and Mark; two brothers, Harley and Galen; and six grandchildren.
Wilbert W. Marshall
1913 - 2001
Graveside services for Buck Marshall, 88, De Soto, were May 5, at the De Soto Cemetery, De Soto.
Mr. Marshall died Wednesday, May 2, at Indian Creek Nursing Center.
He was born Jan. 9, 1913, in Sherwood Junction, Kan., one of six children. He moved to De Soto when he was 18. He attended De Soto Baptist and worked as a farm hand in spite of his disabilities. He chose to live on his own, raising cows for milk before there were big dairies.
His mother, Hilda Dora Blakesley, and his father, Albert Marshall, precede him in death.
Survivors include his sister, Ruby Lackey, Independence, Mo., and many nieces and nephews.
Thomas K. Walta
1956 - 2001
Services for Tom Walta, 44, Kansas City, Mo., were May 9 at the Alden-Harrington Funeral Home, Bonner Springs.
Mr. Walta died Saturday, May 5, at his home.
He was born Nov. 27, 1956, in Manhattan. He was a carpenter working with several construction companies in the Kansas City area, and was a member of the Carpenter's Union Local No. 61
Survivors include his parents, Robert and Dorothy Walta, Bonner Springs; one brother, Dan Walta, Kansas City, Kan.; and a host of aunts, uncles, family and friends.
Hilda Ruth Clark Parks
Hilda Ruth Clark Parks died April 17, 2001 in Whitney, Texas. She was a homemaker.
Parks' was born in Bonner Springs and graduated from high school here in 1935 as a National Honor Society student.
Parks' granddaughter, Lisa Christine Busby, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Marian Johnson, Tillamook, OR; a husband, Arthur E. Parks, Whitney, Texas; a son Richard Earl Parks, Valle, Ariz.; a daughter, Hilda Kathleen Busby, Congress, Ariz.; one grandson and one great-granddaughter.
